i need to practice/learn excel so i gathered data about phyuri on ao3, here are my graphs. as you can see there is a significant increase in f/f fanfiction under the phandom tag in this past year
my data collection methods were not super good because this was more about me using excel so take this with a grain of salt
heres my data if anyone wants it, i know its a bit off because the totals are both slightly more than the fic totals on ao3. i basically manually counted the fics, when i was doing the f/f i got a bit confused because of publication dates on fics that were updated more recently being between much older fics and i counted them by the date they showed. with the m/m i counted the page numbers and x20 so it is more imprecise and also is more by publication than finished date.
#dan and phil#the ho yaps#dnp#phan#phyuri#dan howell#phil lester#ao3#phannies in stem#i spent wayyy to long gathering data manually but i lowkey dont mind it ?#maybe i should go into data science/statistics its quite fun and i seem to not mind the grueling parts of data collecting and sorting idk

"the lunatic fringe on my opponents' side fundamentally taints their entire movement, which is therefore obviously morally bankrupt and should be ignored. the lunatic fringe on my side is an unrepresentative minority and anybody paying attention to them is a fool/bigot/liar." <- depressingly common pattern. you can't have it both ways!
#also one frequently invoked in bad faith ofc#the problem with any political position of any statistical significance#is that you can always find *some* asshole who makes the whole thing look bad#even lots of such assholes#and it's very tempting to turn lots of isolated data points into a trendline#but if you're actually collecting enough data points to accurately assess general opinion#that is called a 'survey' and those tend to be a lot less useful for making your opponents look like raving madmen

the tumblr press page says 48% of users are Gen Z, so aged 12-27. and this website says 40% Gen Z and 30% Millennial although idk how trustworthy that is. either way those are unfortunately useless categories for purposes of figuring out who is rent-paying age versus who just started highschool
#I wonder if that’s just a function of the fact that they don’t seem to collect as much data as like Facebook or Twitter#at least like raw demographics anyway#and talking about % Gen Z users is obviously marketing language not statistical language#anyway that’s younger than I thought like I thought more millennials would be on here#That’s still a good chunk of adults though

Working on my javascript for my web page. Turns out I have the perfect kind of setup to accomplish some of the project requirements, specifically with even handlers and user interactions
My website, conceptually, will load a different employee details page depending on what employee name is clicked on. But I need to load it dynamically (instead of hard-coding it) so that the user can add or delete employees & it'll be able to still load the relevant shit.
So! Only one employee details page, but depending on how it's loaded, it'll load a different employee's information. Still working on getting down Exactly how to do it (I'm thinking using URL parameters that'll read a different object depending on what ID is used)
It's entirely doable. In fact, it's probably extremely common to do in web pages. No one wants to hard-code information for every new object. Of course not. And thus the usefulness of dynamic javascript stuff.
I can do this. I can very much do this.
#speculation nation#i wasnt very good when i got home and i read fanfic for a while#then took a nap. and now im up again and Getting To Work.#i dont have to have this 100% perfect for final submission just yet. bc final submission isnt today.#but i need to have my final presentation over my thing done by noon (11 hours from now)#and im presenting TODAY. and part of that will be giving a live demo of my project website#so. i need to have all of the core functionality of my website down at the Very Least#might not be perfect yet. but by god if im gonna show up to my presentation with my website not working.#i need to have the employee list lead to employee details with personalized information displayed per employee#i need to create an add employee field that will Actually add an employee. using a form.#and that employee will need to show up on the list and have a new id and everything. the works.#need to set it up so that employees can be deleted. shouldnt be too much extra.#and it would be . interesting. to give an actual 'login' pop-up when someone clicks on the login button#with some kind of basic info as the login parameters. this cant be that hard to code.#the project requirements are: implement 5 distinct user interactions using javascript. at least 3 different eventhandlers#at least 5 different elements with which interaction will trigger an event handler. page modification & addition of new elements to pages#3 different ways of selecting elements. one selection returning collection of html elements with customized operations on each...#hm. customized operations on each... the example given is a todo list with different styles based on if an item is overdue or not#i wonder if my personalized detail page loading would count for this... i also have some extra info displayed for each#but i specifically want the employees to be displayed in the list uniformly. that's kinda like. The Thing.#actually im poking around on my web pages i made previously and i do quite enjoy what i set up before.#need to modify the CSS for the statistics page and employee details to make it in line with what i actually wanted for it#maybe put a background behind the footer text... i tried it before & it was iffy in how it displayed...#but it looks weird when it overlaps with a page's content. idk that's just me being particular again.#theres also data interchange as a requirement. but that should be easy if i set an initial employee list as a json file#good god im going to have to think of so much extra bullshit for these 10 made up employees#wah. this is going to be a lot of work. but. im going to do it. i just wont get very much sleep tonight.#that's ok tho. ive presented under worse conditions (cough my all nighter when i read 3gun vol 10 and cried my eyes out)#and this is going to be the last night like this of my schooling career. the very last one.#just gotta stay strong for one more night 💪💪💪

one of these days i'm going to write an essay about spotify wrapped and identity, the perception of self vs how society at large (or in this case a mega corporation) perceives the individual and the narratives they push to reinforce that (daylist) but today i'm just trying to convince myself not to do my own count of listens for the next year
#it would drive me to madness this i know#however#the deeper i get into my spotify wrapped playlist the more i know it's just WRONG#like statistically mathematically#i know for a fact there are songs on there i listened to ONCE#and songs that are waaaay down the list that i listened to on repeat#the problem with collecting data and being my own test subject would also mean that i would invariably affect the results#like i couldn't objectively see that i'd played x song y amount of times without being like maybe i should listen to something else#ANYWAY#i'm about to go off and i haven't even had coffee yet#when will my therapist come back from the war?#kk rants#spotify wrapped

i have answered it here!
ofc stackson takes the cake with the most works. And some more additional info is that there's 21 pairings (romantic, platonic, familial, and other) that have only 1 uploaded work on my ao3.
3 of the pairings are ot3s. 9 are romantic/sexual. 8 are platonic/familial
there's probably a few more ships that probably show up in other fics with ships i've written for more than once but these fics have these pairings as centric to the story.
#i love doing stuff like this#statistics right?#i dunno#i like collecting data about my things#feral says things#thank you for asking#if you want you can send in another question since this one was already answered ;-;

it’s crazy like actually insane that i can’t find historical demographic analyses of childlessness rates among women of any time period before the 1800s. that seems like it should be such a interesting illustrative statistic in and of itself but also as an indicator of broader social/economic/religious/political/environmental conditions. it’s a statistic that establishes something entirely distinct from what you get out of an average birth rate...
OK NVM post kind of cancelled i'm finding a couple articles. but nothing that's really what i'm looking for/what i'd be wanting answers to. w/e do i sound insane/is this already obvious
#like they're bringing it up as something that was discussed/understood in the period but not how frequent it was and what factors informed#its presence#like there are time periods in many locations prior to the late modern period that would theoretically have administrative#records/census data collection that you could use to extract this statistic/analysis. i wonder if my jstor/school#library searches just aren't properly describing what i'm thinking of.#sorry. im high#a

For thems that care: I recently started tracking who lays/day out of my flock. So here’s a glimpse at a hour, a day, a week, a month, and since I started tracking.

Some things to notice!
I’m missing about 5 days of data from May. Raspberry is 4 years old but lays like she’s 2. Red and Louis are 3. Purdy is the chicken who wandered in and decided she lives here now. I suspect she’s about 1. Pumpkin and Tufty are 2. Tufty has a damaged ovary and rarely lays. And obviously the rest won’t hit the charts until fall.

Ok no one asked but I've been tempted to make Jackie and Olivia stalien designs since I've been working on some new icons for the eternal gales stalien kiddos and it's been making me also think abt how disastrous it would be if they were in the same stalien society that the main cast are from because dear god would they either die instantly or make things so much worse. Even if they did get lucky enough to be able to be remotely near a position to found a stalien version of gravitas, no way in hell they'd be able to get far enough to even begin their own morally corrupt downfall before one of the other big companies forcibly assimilated gravitas into their own corporations and do the same shit but way WAY worse. Even if Jackie Was in a position to eventually climb the ladder enough to get to a more ceo position shed probably end up painting a target on her back way before she could get there, as her and Olivia's whole infinite power research would be very much unwanted by most of the ceo elders. Oh and Olivia would be fucked even beyond that because she's a biologist lol so at best she's going to be forced to drop every last one of her morals and barely scrape by
#rat rambles#oni posting#eternal gales#posts that will immediately isolate every last one of my followers rip the the recent oni followers sorry for the no context#anyways realistically olivia and jackie wouldnt be in positions of power just statistically and as such would be dead in their early 20s#well by their early 20s most dont make it that long#but assuming they ended up in jobs that sort of line up with their canon jobs theyd both likely be working at the convieor facility#aka where mason was supposed to work at and where dancer and helmet where both held as lil kids#and if you know anything abt that whole situation then you know that olivia and jackie are not winning in the job lottery here lol#now assuming that they stick to similar specialties olivia definitely has the more extreme shit to be stuck doing here since well. y'know.#but jackie might theoretically be able to luck out a bit and not be hands on in the surgons branch#she would probably still have to work with them but shed be more so in charge of collecting the data and deciding what to do with it#this means shed be more closely working with the twos boss for better or for worse#most likely for worse but yknow#olivia and jackie Could stand a chance at making it past the first culling checkpoint due to them being useful enough but thats a maybe#it mostly just depends on what direction they try to take their research and if it's smth their boss would take interest in#so less 'bettering society' and more 'making our lives specifically easier'#so no infinite power or at least not with any intent on wide scale application#if olivia could figure out the whole biolengineering thing somehow without ever having seen an animal then that could save her#one big issue that the facility is meant to be solving is the whole corpse crisis#aka stalien corpses dont rly decompose well especially without other wildlife to help#and as you might have been able to gleam there are a lot of corpses on these guys hands#so finding methods of body desposal is a big research point of the surgons branch#now ofc this research does indeed make more corpses but hey at least theyre smaller ones. iykyk.#anyways the main question for me when it comes to hypothetical jackie and olivia stalien designs is what color energy do they have#because usually I just go off eye color but they dont have canon eye colors so I could get more creative#also if I just go with my designs for them then theyd both just have red or yellow energy#which I could certainly work with but idk if I want either to be red and I dont want both to be yellow#plus red and yellow are technically both based in the same color energy anyways so it still feels unapealing#I could make jackie a pale purple or black varient and olivia a particularly dense yellow varient

its crazy how much the term 'ai' has wormed its way into peoples brains that any use of it is means for panic. 'ai voice' have we forgotten tts has existed for maybe 50 years.
#txt#dgwm i'm not a fan of generative ai but some of these technologies have existed longer than statistically most people using this site. lawl#and that a lot of this is just moral panic and. to be honest. a lot of problems ppl argue about ai are not exclusive to/originate from ai.#not all of this is on the fault of ppl complaining abt ai because bigwigs in suits have somehow rebranded what an algorithm is.#don't take this as me being Pro AI its just that i think the problem was never ai on its own.#its abt surveillance data collection and labour. all facets of capitalism & how it operates under the control of corporations & the state#to be honest anything else i'm not interested in. i dont care about the sanctity of art. thats never something i will defend#if its bad art its bad art but again thats not unique to ai.#if ur interested in artists exploring ai critically i'd really recommend trevor paglen & hito steryl

Strengthening Travel Data Collection in Eswatini: Global Insights and Local Action from ITC Day 2 Training
Introduction
On April 9, 2025, the International Trade Centre (ITC) hosted the second day of its specialized training in Eswatini, focusing on strengthening the collection and integration of travel service data. The training, part of a broader initiative to foster trade integration in Africa, emphasized the importance of accurate travel statistics in compiling a country’s Balance of Payments (BoP) and making informed policy decisions.
Understanding the Complexity of Travel Data
Travel services stand out from other services in international trade because they involve direct interactions between travelers and service providers. Capturing this data accurately is a challenge for many developing countries due to high costs, technical complexities, and fragmented data sources.
The ITC highlighted multiple data collection methods, including:
Personal and Household Surveys
Enterprise and Establishment Surveys
International Transactions Reporting Systems (ITRS)
Administrative Records (e.g., immigration, health, and education)
Operational Data from payment cards and mobile networks
Best Practices from Around the World
Participants explored successful case studies such as Algeria’s detailed ITRS classification system, which includes over 20 specific travel transaction categories. Italy’s visitor survey methodology was also presented, offering detailed expenditure breakdowns and capturing valuable insights into tourist behavior. Spain and Germany demonstrated how integrating mobile data and credit card transactions can enhance the granularity of travel statistics.
Local Contributions and Presentations
Three key national institutions shared valuable insights during the workshop:
Central Bank of Eswatini Presented by Khetsiwe Dlamini-Maziya Highlighted legal frameworks, monthly travel service data from ITRS, and challenges such as misclassification. Emphasized cooperation with the Central Statistical Office (CSO) and the importance of seamless data sharing.
Eswatini Tourism Authority (ETA) – ETA Surveys & Stats Presentation Provided an overview of tourism-related surveys, including the Exit Survey, Day Visitor Survey, and Event Impact Surveys. These tools are central to measuring tourist behavior and destination performance.
Central Statistical Office (CSO) – Presented by Philile Mdluli Focused on hotel and accommodation statistics, data collection frequency, and challenges in working with tourism establishments. Noted issues like high staff turnover and lack of standardized data systems, proposing both short- and long-term digital solutions.
These presentations emphasized the critical role of local data collection and inter-agency cooperation in enhancing the quality and reliability of tourism statistics.
Challenges and Solutions
Key issues identified included the misclassification of travel expenses, timing mismatches between payment and service delivery, and low response rates in enterprise and household surveys.
Solutions discussed included:
Enhancing the granularity of ITRS codes
Leveraging mobile tracking and payment data
Improving survey designs and interviewer training
Strengthening confidentiality and legal frameworks
Encouraging inter-agency collaboration
Data Integration and Coordination
A strong focus was placed on integrating multiple data sources to avoid duplication and ensure completeness. The training encouraged structured cooperation between statistical offices, financial institutions, and telecom providers. Formal agreements and shared protocols were highlighted as essential tools.
Eswatini’s Path Forward
As Eswatini works to improve its travel data infrastructure, the ITC training provided practical tools and exposure to international best practices. The national presentations reinforced the country's existing strengths and pointed to opportunities for innovation in legal, technical, and operational areas.
Conclusion
Day 2 of the ITC training reinforced the critical role of accurate travel data in national statistics. Through better methodologies, inter-agency cooperation, and the integration of modern data technologies, Eswatini is well positioned to improve tourism intelligence and support sustainable growth in the sector.

India’s Tax Puzzle: Majority of ITR Filers in FY25 Paid No Tax
A significant chunk of taxpayers in India, nearly two-thirds, had no tax liability in the financial year 2024-25, according to government data. Out of approximately 84 million individuals who submitted their income tax returns by December 31, 2024, a staggering 55.8 million owed no tax. This highlights that only around one in three filers actually contributed to the tax pool, raising important questions about income distribution, exemptions, and the effectiveness of India's taxation policies.

So, survivorship bias is involved too, but really it's more than that. There are ways to actually find patterns in our genes for these things. Same with the nurture aspect influence over time.
Which, as a species, we need to do. Just as a way, at the very least, to help our own individual selves, let alone prevent incredibly high risk individuals from being born.
2 prong approaches & a need for incredible oversight to make certain it doesn't go towards what Hitler would do.
