i found this article by a trans person that's about why they decided against hosting a trans day of remembrance event.
it boils down to "i've spent so long thinking people were out to get me and trans people were murdered all the time, i looked into the numbers, turns out they're not and that's good news so let's stop scaring and misleading people (while also treating the deaths of the people who do get killed with respect)".
so if you need a source from a queer outlet to show people that the statistics are bogus, and that the trans community has an interest in good data collection, here you go:

Here is a cool little gadget I'd never heard of before. It's a temperature datalogger. It lasts 60 days. Sadly I think it may be disposable (but I'd imagine rechargeable versions exist. )
Suppose you are shipping fruit across the country and you've paid extra to have the trucks chilled down to 65F. How do you know they didn't ship them at 75F and only lower the temp fully just before arrival?
Hide this bad boy in your shipment, then check the USB for data on arrival.
Tumblr media
They cost about $4 each.
I'm fascinated by things like this for reasons I can't possibly articulate.
I almost bought one just to try it out and take it apart... but instead I'll just tell ya'll about it... I bet there are other interesting ways to use such a device. For example... you could detect if a chair is being sat in or not by putting it inside of a pillow...

So we all know that Tik tok is bad and steals info, right?
Right okay.
And I became so normalized to like yeah I have no privacy online no big deal.
So when I saw one of my mutuals from here show up on my list of friends to follow on tik tok I didn't think much of it.
Today though I decided to figure out like how insidious it is. Cuz the people showing up as friends... I don't dm them, I'm not regularly reblogging from them or anything. We're just mutuals.
And tik tok picked that up. I follow thousands of people and thousands follow me. So... How insane is their data collection?
I stumbled onto this article which answered my question.
It's about this guy who reverse engineers apps explaining what he found when he reverse engineered tik tok. Obligatory disclaimer: this article is two years old However still fairly accurate as tik tok hasn't changed that much.
He explained all this in a reddit thread so I'll share the screenshots from the article

“TikTok might not meet the exact criteria to be called “Malware”, but it’s definitely nefarious and (in my humble opinion) outright evil,” Bangorlol said. “There’s a reason governments are banning it. Don’t use the app. Don’t let your children use it. Tell your friends to stop using it. It offers you nothing but a quick source of entertainment that you can get elsewhere without handing your data over to the Chinese government. You are directly putting yourself and those on your network (work and home) at risk.”
And like yeah that's really invasive right. But like no they aren't just looking at follower counts and app usage from other apps. They see Actual real data on them. How else would they know which of my followers interact with me most out of the thousands of followers I have?
And how much info are they getting from the data they sift through?
How many of you don't have tik tok but still have your name, age, and some traits, maybe a DNI in your bio? How many of my followers don't have tik tok, but now tik tok has access to you through my Tumblr? How's that make you feel? Is tik tok taking the interests of people I follow into consideration when it's figuring out what videos to show me?
Are they looking at Your interests to help zero in on mine?

This is important to me, I need this for data collection and evidence/reference material.
If you are a fnaf fan, be honest, would you pay $30 for a Youtooz DJ Music Man figure if they made one?
It’s been nearly 2 years and they still haven’t made any official DJMM mech besides those playing cards featuring DJ as one of the characters and MatPat’s Fnaf collection in Theory Wear including 2 DJ music Man t-shirts. That’s it. (That I am aware of) There are no official figures or plushies at all. Not from Youtooz or Funko. Meanwhile all the other SB characters including the WET FLOOR SIGNS have official merch..
So- I ask you this question, please answer as honestly as possible:
Please respond whether or not you are a fan of this character
If successful, I am going to use the data in this poll as evidence for an email to Youtooz, so if you can spread this poll as much as possible for a big sample size outside of just the DJ Music Man fan community it would be super helpful! Thank you! And please answer honestly!
Including pictures for anyone who may not know what character is being referred to:

Fun fact! 'Funny cross stitch' is the 16ᵗʰ most common tag given to cross-stitch listings on Etsy (right after 'pdf cross stitch' and before 'cute cross stitch'). But how many of those patterns are actually funny? What's the average humor level? And which among them is the funniest? I think it's time we found out!
Click Here* to cast your vote on any of 997 different 'funny' cross-stitch patterns, all randomly scraped from Etsy throughout the year, and check back later this month for the results!
Patterns pictured here: [dark sense] [keith haring] [love] [pew pew] [gnomes]
*the site is uhhhh a little hacked-together, so if it crashes lemme know and I'll fix it. website design is my passion

Everywhere you go online, you’re being tracked. Almost every time you visit a website, trackers gather data about your browsing and funnel it back into targeted advertising systems, which build up detailed profiles about your interests and make big profits in the process. In some places, you’re tracked more than others.
In a little-noticed change at the end of last year, thousands of websites started being more transparent about how many companies your data is being shared with. In November, those infuriating cookie pop-ups—which ask your permission to collect and share data—began sharing how many advertising “partners” each website is working with, giving a further glimpse of the sprawling advertising ecosystem. For many sites, it’s not pretty.
A WIRED analysis of the top 10,000 most popular websites shows that dozens of sites say they are sharing data with more than 1,000 companies, while thousands of other websites are sharing data with hundreds of firms. Quiz and puzzle website JetPunk tops the pile, listing 1,809 “partners” that may collect personal information, including “browsing behavior or unique IDs.”
More than 20 websites from publisher Dotdash Meredith—including Investopedia.com, People.com, and Allrecipes.com—all say they can share data with 1,609 partners. The newspaper The Daily Mail lists 1,207 partners, while internet speed-monitoring firm Speedtest.net, online medical publisher WebMD, and media outlets Reuters, ESPN, and BuzzFeed all state they can share data with 809 companies. (WIRED, for context, lists 164 partners.) These hundreds of advertising partners include dozens of firms most people have likely never heard of.

The data collection that started when I first got polls is finally finished…
And here are the results in chart form!
Tumblr media
Not really any surprises with this one. It’s a fairly even spread, which is what I would have expected.
Tumblr media
I didn’t really have any inkling as to how this one would turn out as season 1 doesn’t really have any of the most popular episodes. But Moonah Ston is definitely a worthy winner. And Robin will be happy.
Tumblr media
This one surprised me the most. I knew what the top two episodes would be, but I expected Redding Weddy to be the overall winner. And The Grey Lady getting zero votes was a surprise as well.
Tumblr media
This one has by far the most landslide win of all of them. I knew The Woodworm Men would be very popular, but I didn’t expect it to win by such a considerable margin.
Tumblr media
And the latecomer sweeps the competition! It may be the newest episode, but in the short time we’ve had it, It’s Behind You has managed to capture all of our hearts.
Tumblr media
And there we have it! We can definitively say that, according to 150 or so tumblr users, The Woodworm Men is the best overall episode of Ghosts.
Tumblr media
Thanks everyone for sticking with me while I nerd out about statistics. *bows and leaves*

Hi, sorry if this is weird, but I was wondering if you knew anything about the history of rosaries (specifically in the us)? cause I've been trying to do research but most of what I've been finding doesn't really focus on more recent changes to price/material n that kinda thing
Hi there,
I have no idea. I would try reaching out to individual sellers/makers. You may need to collect the data on your own.
