This is a flying squirrel that I drew with moth wings because I thought it was funny. Also, moth wings look good on absolutely everyone. Think of is as a squirrel fairy. A fairydiddle. DO YOU EVEN UNDERSTANDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD #okay here are all the details: ‘if he had a hundred years’ with the mountains is supposed to bring to mind the ancients #everyone is supposed to be faceless except for holly. on the second pace the bottom 3 silhouettes are leaf crow and squirrel #and their eyes are white with colored iris to look even MORE uncanny. the fire cuts across holly’s throat foreshadowing her death #the entire second page with the fire is showing how this once event has completly collapsed her life it’s everywhere she can’t escape it #lightning on 3rd page also represents the storm. and the fact that holly was scared of storms after the fire with is so :(#i also imagine holly used to be a lot lighter gray as a kit/paw with tabby markings. just personal hc #ashfur killing scene again you don’t see the action you don’t even see her face just the aftermath. she wasnt there it didnt happen. etc #the leaf has the tufts of her fur that were in his claws from the fight the only ‘evidence’ of it happening.#and the last two shots show her alone in the tunnel dreaming of her family (squirrel bramble fire sand leaf and lion and jay)#vs lion and jay. and the prophecy. who don’t even stop to grieve her because they’ve found the 3rd cat. nobody is ever missing

wondering about Frank and insects but specifically about how it looks like the WH insects are highly stylized, so does Frank even know anything about real butteflies/insects?

& if he saw a real one, would he recognize it? are all of the species names he applies to the WH bugs real, or are they all made up like "Vibrant Eyespot" or "Fluttering Heartwing"?

and then there's the question - does the neighborhood have some of the more 'undesirable' bugs like moths, worms, roaches, spiders? does it have bugs outside of the generic groups of beetles and butterflies? like are there mantids? leafbugs? dragonflies? weevils? or are those too specific/complex/not-cute for the Playfellow Workshop to have included?

and then there's the question of what are the bugs? props? puppets? are they alive or do the neighbors just perceive them as such? Do they even exist outside of art, storybooks, and animated segments? I highly doubt they're alive like the neighbors are, since in the gif of Frank's head spinning, the framed butterflies' wings are moving. which is kind of horrifying if you think about it for more than a second.

just... the critters Frank loves so so so much being a complete fabrication... every piece of knowledge he prides himself on / delights in knowing being utterly Untrue... oof

do you know what the deal is with this weird squirrel? we have a lot of black squirrels in the park nearby but ive never seen one like this before. symmetrical pattern, its other side looked the same.

Eastern grey squirrels are funky! Here are oddly colored individuals on my favorite iNaturalist group, they seem to be the most commonly reported species. Melanistic ones don’t always come in pure black, they can be very interesting like the one you saw!
