Messing around with some paint tools in CSP and I end up doodling this. I think I'll use this for my concept story off these characters of mine.
Thank you Winged Canvas discord for their advice on additional rim light on this art that I missed.

The Meeting
Tried my hand at drawing some sort of comic with a scene with some of my OCs I had in mind for quite some time. Still, this won't make much sense since I haven't posted anything about those OCs in a long time…
This was actually meant as a bit of expression practice but turned into comic practice XD I still need to practice consistency and more dynamic poses and viewpoints.
My respect goes out to all comic artists (especially webcomic artists). All of you need to have the patience and perseverance of a saint.

Mixed concept art for Ch.8
If you follow me anywhere else you may know that I’ve been the soul artist and writer behind the ongoing mixed media Kung Fu Panda fancomic: Phoenix Rising.
As usual I had a breakdown and a breakthrough in between chapters and I’ve decided to switch to alcohol marker for the traditional portion for the foreseeable future. Which means making colorkeys for every character. And for funzies, a full page establishing shot. That perspective class I was forced to take is paying off!
It’s gonna be a hot minute until I drop the first batch of pages but if you want to read the comic so far it’s available here:

Hi, I just saw your ask about visdev and was wondering if you could please elaborate on your second and forth points? The one's about your work fitting into the pipeline and being applicable to the animation industry? Thank you! :)
I think those two kind of go hand in hand, all it means is if you're applying for a feature visdev job, at least some portion of your portfolio should be formatted like a feature visdev portfolio (obviously there are exceptions though). Show a practical understanding of the visdev design process by approaching a personal visdev project as though you were making a movie. This also ties into "showing your process" which is something I've heard a lot of recruiters say. This might look like: 1) Thumbnails 2) Beat painting 3) 3/4 cutaway 4) Breaking the environment down into props/materials etcetc. These are not requirements or anything, but any of this stuff would inform a recruiter that you understand the kind of ideas/information that a visdev artist is expected to provide on a job. I also want to stress that this is way more about format/content than it is about style. Keep in mind that visdev encompasses A LOT of things (early ideation, props, colorkeys, environments etc...) and your portfolio doesn't have to include ALL of those things, lean into what you enjoy the most and expand on it.
The are a lot of exceptions to this though, so if this does not sound fun or cool then please do whatever you want. There are established artists who's portfolios aren't typical for 3d animation production, but they are usually hired just to work on pre-production art and usually don't stick around past doing early concept work. There are also people who have switched industries (like from games to animation) who have portfolios that are not totally geared towards animation visdev, but their body of work demonstrates enough transferrable skills that they can still be hired in animation. All of this is to say....there are no hard or fast rules!! (fr!!!!) so take all of this with a grain of salt 😜
Another tip that might be kind of obvious is to look at portfolios of people who have successfully gotten visdev jobs, you'll be able to get a sense of what kind of format/content works and try to apply it to your own work.

Which artists had the most influences on your art/painting style? I really love your work and I wanna know where all those came from haha
Thankya! Honestly there are so many, i usually brainrot over a specific artist for a while and then i find another whose style i find just as intriguing....
But to name a few, when i first started drawing humans i was really inspired by wachtelspinat whose tf2 and midnight crew art i absolutely adore (i read homestuck because of their midnight crew fanart and i was solely disappointed that little chess guys arent actually that important, mayor my man)

I also love shiyoon kim, especially their more sketchy works, you may recognise them because they drew spiderverse concept arts and much more i even have his brush set! You can buy it for 10$

I also had a big phase for sergey kolesov's artworks that comes back to me every now and then, he used to be a concept artist for dishonored 2 and deathloop and the way he renders things in his paintings and his colors are just so,,,

Lately ive been frustrated with my colors so im doing some studies of nathan fowkes's art, his colorkeys are so simple and the values are great and he seems to never use black yet it works
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I could go on and on, overall i find old children books inspiring as well, but more like the ones made in the eastern block,,,, same goes for the polish school of poster! heres a poster for alien and big lebowski

i also get inspired by my friends, you know that kind of osmosis where youre buddies with someone and your styles merge together to the point where people cant tell your art apart?? Im kinda like that with my friend fel, they've been of the grid for a while but ill let people know if they ever feel like posting again, heres a drawing they made recently of their oc beaver
