I choice Louise Bourgeois as I was instantly drawn to the unnerving atmosphere in her work as well as the wide range of mediums she works in.

Week 47 -05/12/22

During this week at my Barbour placement, I was asked to CAD some different variations of prints for the sales team to review in their range overview meeting with design. I used the different prints which were being used over the Coast to Country range to create a floral patchwork quilt, using different colour variation and proportion of the print

As well as this, during December and the New Year is when the specials requests come in from places like JLP and Fraser Group. Usually, the specials are previous designs but in their own colour palette which is decided by the design team and the company too. When choosing colourways for these, the designers will often push to use already lab dipped and signed off colours which we have in stock as it speeds up the design process as well as helping Barbour move to a more sustainable way of designing.

Furthermore, I was asked to help with the fixing of some styles in the showroom which had been damaged in launch week. Using the BOM which is sent to suppliers, I contacted the purchasing team for stock to request in stock of the buttons ext which had been lost to hand sew on for any potential clients coming in to look at the showrooms.

Towards the end of the week, there was a sales meeting where the team are shown the colourboards & moodboards for the season and an overview of the CADs to which they discuss with the designers about the product. It was a really good experience for me to take part in as I found it very similar to when Sue from Fenwick came and looked at our toiles for our project, helping us in the early design stage which helps save time and avoid unnecessary samples being made which makes us more sustainable in our design!

Amanda Wakeley - Colours Of Morocco - Escapism Concept

When looking for the right colour board when designing my capsule collection for Escapism, I wanted to find some really earthy tones alongside the more pop colours to keep a sophisticate but modern look. 

I found inspiration from oil paintings of Morocco, I thought the way that the colours blended together, was really beautiful and really represented how I wanted my collection to look when finished - Visually breathtaking!

Week 45 - 21/11/22

During this week at my Barbour placement, I followed up on admin stuff in regards to last weeks launch. As SS24 had been neglected by the team as we were preparing for the launch week, I began the week by naming the styles which previously hadn’t been, using the SS24 style naming document I had created at the start of the season.

At the end of launch week, our product development manager had typed up all the sales notes for the product which they were shown, which then were put into work for any changes which sales felt was necessary to get the best sale of the product. Due to the stage of development of the season, these changes are never dramatically changing the garment more just changes in trims or sometimes colourways, such as the Floral lining being dropped in Country and updated to the new Gardenia Check lining.

As well as this, we began to get fabric standards in for SS24 PRE and MAIN. These were looked at by design and signed off by the fabric team, I then filed these away in their respective place for future reference. We also had lab dyes for new colourways being put into work, these are looked at by the designers and fabric team to see if they match the pantone/swatch on the colourboard as well as seeing if the designers actually might prefer the colour outcome of these dyes instead of what they had previously selected. This is carried out on all of the fabrics which the designer wishes to use in the range.

Another thing which we needed to do for SS24 is update the Must Have styles. The styles which needed to be amended were the classic Barbour styles such as the Annadale Quilt or the Liddesdale Quilt, these styles were updated to have new colourways relevant to this season, with the previous seasons colourways being dropped. Usually, these styles take the colourways of Country and Coast to Country as they are more traditional Barbour ranges, with this season it being Bayleaf for Country and Calico and Hessian for Coast to Country - using these ranges for colour reference really ties in Barbour’s colour stories.

Finally, I began to set up the Pinterest boards for AW24 as we are going into AW22 incase anyone in the team sees any inspirational design ideas they want to explore.
