Talking about reading fanfic when you haven't interacted with the source material:

I think there's a lot of depends, especially when it comes to multi-player video games. There's not a lot of story and the game costs money, so instead you interact with fan artists & writers to get your fill.

I love horror games, but hate playing with random people and my friends don't play those games. Dead by Daylight has a lot of fanfic and fanart I like and I adore the original killers they have.

This happens with a lot of horror movies for me too just because there's a lot of meh movies with good concepts and fanfic writers often do that concept better and/or I'm more interested in the killer's story and character more than the leads.

I guess I technically interact with the source material if you count watching 20 min of compiled scenes from a movie. I love horror but there's so many tropes I hate about it that I don't want to sit through. Part of that may also be because I'm not a big scare person either. I'm not here to be scared by horror I'm here to find beauty in the disturbing and disgusting! And when I DO want to be scared, fanfic writers tend to do a much better job with how they make things feel so much more real

Video games are I think where a lot of people misunderstand what I (personally) mean by taking in the source material. How much you can engage with the source text without playing it yourself can vary a LOT on a case-by-case basis in games.

In my limited experience with multiplayer online game characters, playing the game yourself isn't as important as engaging with the character writing, which is usually more separate from gameplay since there's not normally cutscenes in online play.

I'm biased because I suck shit at games, but in my opinion, if the story of the characters in the multiplayer horror game is told through text blurbs and cutscenes and advertisement clips, and you watch/read all those things, just like someone who played the game would, that's close enough to engaging with the source material to me. You've taken in the tone of the source writing and you have most of the facts. Maybe there's some context lacking if you don't listen to every possible in-game voice line, but I think the effort to understand whatever you can get your hands on counts for a lot here.

With the horror movies...I guess I can't totally discount watching clip compilations based on what I just said about engaging with certain video games. But I stand by my assertion that you're missing out on valuable intertext for the parts of the movies you haven't seen, and I think it still takes away from your overall experience.

If there's a terrible sexist trope in the source movie, and the fanfic author changes how that scene goes, doesn't it matter how they changed it? How exactly the scene went originally? Did the original sexist trope fall in line with the themes the movie meant to convey? If it did, how does changing it effect that? Does it make the theme feminist-inclusive, or does it just gloss it over and pretend sexism doesn't exist and doesn't tie into the theme of the movie? If you never watched the scene, you can't entirely know / have formed an opinion!

I understand avoiding stuff that is too anxiety-inducing (I've done that with tons of stuff for most of my life because of my OCD). I can't really help you with dealing with when the movie just Is Successfully Scary. But for the stuff you read fanfic to see rewritten.........I feel like ignoring "sitting through" the shitty parts in the source material is robbing yourself of valuable experiences, too, even if those experiences kinda suck?

Understanding the structure of the shitty parts of media (and how one could disassemble them, if so inclined) is how we can learn to recognize shitty patterns we're otherwise accustomed to in all the other media we engage with regularly. It's a really valuable skill to have. So I think that specifically getting into stuff that HAS problems you KNOW about, and yet making no effort to Understand those problems fully (not that people can't fail to understand even if they engage with the source material, unfortunately), is just...a waste of a perfectly good learning experience?? I'm not the boss of you obviously but that's my two cents.

Good lord, this had to have been one of the most heavily advertised albums of all time, man. I don't know how much ad money the Razor & Tie label shelled out for all of their 'As Seen on TV' comps back in the day, but the commercials for Monsters of Rock and Monster Ballads were fucking inescapable throughout the late 90s and early 2000s, especially. Like, you'd be watching something on cable, and the commercial for this album would come on, so then you'd change the channel, and the same commercial would be playing on there too! And then you'd just force yourself to sit through it, and eventually, through repetition, the entire sequence of little song snippets that gets played throughout the ad would become a permanently etched medley inside of your goddamn mind, destined to haunt your soul for the rest of eternity:

Now, the hair metal era may have been the dumbest and most ridiculous period of mainstream rock that we've ever borne witness to—and it's very difficult for me to think of another commercially successful subgenre in which rank stupidity has been such an inherently defining trait—but thanks to a combination of my own nostalgia for these damn Razor & Tie ads and my sometimes weird and ironic affinity for bad shit, after listening to this album, there is really nothing more that I want to do than hitch a ride back to 1990 so I can live out a super corny fantasy as a badass suburban high school senior who cruises through town in a boxy, red sedan with the windows down as these silly songs blare out of my speakers 😎.

But like I said, I am also under no illusion here; I'm fully cognizant of just how patently absurd so much of this music was. And when it comes to the pinnacle of pure trash, I really don't think anything ever quite managed to top Warrant's signature 1990 anthem, "Cherry Pie," which is obviously on this album. Like, have you heard or thought about this tune recently? It really might be the single-dumbest song that's ever been recorded in human history. And as the single-dumbest song that's ever been recorded in human history, it has thankfully and, I guess quite fittingly, been memorialized in some way, since…*checks notes*…you can currently go see the pizza box that its lyrics were originally transcribed on at the Hard Rock Cafe in Destin, Florida… 😭.

Also, Winger's "Seventeen." Yikes; you can probably guess what that one's about! Talk about songs that haven't aged well at all 😩:

Yeah… This one's catchy and all, but, um…no. 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎 Really glad we've finally realized as a society that, at the very least, fully-grown adults singing lustily about minors is a very unacceptable thing to do. I mean, it took way too long for us to get here, but at least we've finally made it to this point, right? And I think "Cherry Pie" is probably about a minor too, by the way, but that's also up for debate 😑.

To be clear, though, not every song on this album is embarrassingly dumb and/or skeevy hair metal. I happen to think Living Colour's alt metal classic, "Cult of Personality," is a genuinely great banger. And I also dig the southern rock smoothness of a song like .38 Special's "Hold On Loosely" too; but most of the rest of these are just pure dunderheaded hair metal classics, and a key, overarching feature of this stuff was just how fucking maximally mindless it all was. It's hard to put a finger on what exactly allowed this madness to spread so widely and flourish for nearly a whole-ass decade in the first place, but thank goodness grunge came along when it did and dethroned this stuff from its perch as rock music's top subgenre in the early 90s, because, seriously, this shit was so excessive and outrageous.

All that being said though, and as good and necessary as grunge was back then, I can't help but imagine what a kick-ass time it would probably be to have almost any one of these Monsters of Rock songs come on at the bar while you and everyone else around you are in a highly intoxicated stupor; like, "Black Hole Sun," "Man in the Box," "Interstate Love Song," "Even Flow," etc., might be total jams in and of themselves, but songs like those are probably not gonna do the same trick as something like Alice Cooper's "Poison" can in that type of situation. I mean, when you're fully committed to annihilating some brain cells, it's good to have music that's way ahead of you in order to accompany your experience, right? 😅

Hello! Do you have any series order recommendations for new evillious fans? Or rather, what kind of material to look through first? (i.e. music first then manga, etc.)

My usual series order recommendation is going to be release order (such as this list [here], which has songs, albums, novels, manga, etc listed by the year they came out), though as a note, that list currently doesn't have mothy's E.A.T. songs on there yet (I don't know if you're on mobile or not but [this page] contains all of my translation lists sorted out by medium). Release order is not perfect, mind you (like, there are times where mothy has released a song about a particular arc long after it was concluded, for example), but it is the simplest way to go without having to stress over whether you're seeing things in the "right" order or not.

Do not do chronological order. At least, not as your first time through. There are a lot of Youtube playlists that have the songs listed this way, I would recommend saving that for a second viewing.

As for which medium--it varies. I would say start with the music, especially mothy's early songs because in the early years of the series mothy was still trying to make them into self-contained stories and narratives in their own right. However, as he got more into writing, there have become more songs that don't make sense without broader context, or serve more as advertisements for novels, or are just there to be a snapshot of a particular moment in the story. So I would certainly not suggest you go through all 70(ish?) songs before doing anything else. In this particular case I would just suggest watching the ones you like or find interesting, especially if they have a nice PV. Don't worry too much if you're not completely understanding what's going on.

It's also worth pointing out that a lot of these songs are compiled onto albums--these albums usually contain booklets with little stories of their own. These...can be skipped, sometimes they get retconned even, but they have a neat mini-narrative of their own that gets referenced in other songs and novels, so I would advise reading those too.

The bulk of the actual narrative, characters, worldbuilding, etc, these are all in the novels (not the manga--there is manga, but it's generally either bonus content or an adaptation of an existing novel, and most of it can be skipped entirely). Unlike the songs, the novels should 100% be read in release order (so the Daughter of Evil series books first, then the Deadly Sins of Evil, then OSS, and so forth). This is not a situation where you pick the arc you're most interested in and start there, and you absolutely should not do chronological order here.

I mean--all that being said, you're not going to get graded on any of this, it isn't homework. Really, go through the series in whatever way you enjoy it. There may be some installments you aren't interested in, and that's fine. Maybe you're not into the songs, maybe you don't want to read the novels. It's just that when people complain about this series being confusing, it's usually because they've either A) skipped the books that explain everything, or B) jumped right to the most convoluted part of the story without bothering to familiarize themselves with any other part of it first.

TL;DR--Release order. Songs are good to start with to get interested in the series, novels are where most of the story is at, manga is usually just neat bonus stories or novel adaptations. They are generally interwoven with each other, but novels are the ones where you NEED to go in release order.

ive been seeing talk of warner apparently forcing mcr to make a 4th album when they wanted to end with black parade. did they say this or is this a rumor? where does it come from? im a new fan so tumblr asks are the only way to get even a semblance of context

oh wow don't worry that's definitely not true lol. i guess i can see how it was a rumour because gerard did originally intend for the black parade to be the last album mcr did, like, before they even made it. but also he originally intended for bullets to be their one and only album for a bit too and ray convinced him to keep going, and then the black parade world tour was so gruelling that, again, ray convinced gerard to take a step break and take a break from mcr because otherwise they inevitably would have broken up from the stress. they took a couple years off mcr without setting a specific date to come back, so that when they decided to come back it would be for the right reasons. and then when they did, they set a bunch of rules for the new album because the black parade writing and touring process had been so mentally and physically draining. one of the rules was the new record would have no concept, it would have a more stripped-back punk rock sound etc etc. and that's where conventional weapons came from. they were literally gearing up to release it and starting promo for it when frank came up the the na na na riff just before gerard went on a week-long holiday to the californian desert, where he couldn't get it out of his head. gerard decided they needed to scrap everything and start from scratch, because conventional weapons didn't feel representative of what mcr could be, partly because it didn't have a ~concept. the rest of the guys were onboard except for bob, who did not survive the band's transition into danger days LOL. and then danger days was actually written really quickly and they were psyched about it. or at least mostly - frank said some stuff in interviews after the breakup that implied he wished they had a little more time to work on danger days and that he might have preferred conventional weapons overall, and i think there's kind of an (oversimplified, if you ask me) conception that conventional weapons was ~frank's album and danger days was ~ray's. but anyway, if anything it says how lenient their label was with them at that stage, probably largely due to their a&r guy craig aaronson's championing of them, that they were even allowed to scrap an album they'd already started promoting and write a new one. i'd say that rumour was also partly propagated by danger days being kind of badly received by some fans given it was such a divergence from some of their previous stuff, and also because apparently it was pretty heavily advertised and a lot of people felt like they'd gone "commercial" and felt kind of alienated from the band. gerard was also struggling a lot with his mental health at the time so i think that era leaves a bad taste in people's mouths for that reason, even though it's certainly not the only era in the band's history that that's true for.

anyway, most of that information is just compiled from memory from a bunch of different sources, but if you can get access to it (i honestly think it's worth buying as an ebook), tom bryant's not the life it seems is a really good overview of the band's history. it's a little bit sensationlised at times and certainly very frank-centric because music journalists love frank and he was (and still kind of is tbh) really the only one who agreed to doing mcr-related interviews for a long time, but it's a great read if you can stomach the content warnings.

also for new fans in general, this blogspot is a great resource that has practically every magazine interview mcr ever did up until 2009 scanned in. this blog also has a great list of scans that continue later.

And this is how they're doing so sudden did the Gwen Stefani sign no it was a song watch Hope come over me and it was not about that topic but he said you make the mobile home out of 2x4s and clips and glue and he said okay we can do that and we can do a double wide and he said how much does it cost and stuff like that and it's like less than a lot less than a house and you make a park and they pay rent just like an apartment and it would be as safe as a house and he said no way this is an awesome idea and so he's going to get to it and you like to anchor things and he says you sneak the anchor like under the frame because it's logical it's time straight down but cedar blocks on the soil tube and you simply shim it and you tied down too and he said this is great cuz it works for me and they're going to go ahead and do it and they are doing it they've built a lot of them and regular people can help build it it's not that difficult and the materials are readily available and you don't have to build this huge place and build this huge foundation and all this permitting it's no you don't need permitting for the most part they probably have a minimum construction requirements for the thing and if you glue it it's going to meet anything and use some straps but really it's not regulated that much so he's got to go on it he's got the glue in the straps and they bolted together it's really nice it's so easy and as people love it and if you have to move you bring your house with you and he said good

Really they're building millions that's a lot to be starting out and they started doing the condos they said with the condos is kind of like habitat you have electrician plumber a framer but you have the owners come down and they're only their owners of the condo and he's so he got it and he said wow and you do our flying condo drink trick and somebody said you can put them back to back and put a huge roof on and it you slow less space you can go up higher and you stagger and is 30 ft 2x10s if you get it for like 45 bucks or 40 bucks and he knows how to do it and you stagger the panels and your bolts them and laugh them and laugh them and you figure the plywood and you go all the way down and then you add in your last few sheets feels real fast so these guys are doing it and then condos are going up again they know what the problem was and they forgot to advertise it no they did a test and didn't get it approved or someone didn't look at it so you know the young billionaire inspector's going to come down and you have to kind of be nice little haven't argument pay him off it'll come back as himself he's laughing and then said yeah okay that's how it is all the stuff's approves but this mobile home idea is the best they're really rocking on it their building is amazing can and it's like the ones are around here a lot of mobile homes are older but they're mobile and there's nothing on the concrete any slips out and says what the f*** are we doing cuz I don't know we have a whole bunch of trucks we can move houses with maybe or maybe it's a pseudo empire getting pipe saying it's you guys and he got upset and he started working

Ah yes, the time has come.

It's time to get your pen and paper because class is in session!

There's plenty of things I could talk about and I pretty much covered the basics down below, but I'm more than willing to help y'all out with anything specific!

I have to preface that I'm not an English major by any means nor do I have any experience writing professionally, the things listed below are purely based on my opinions and submissions I have received.

Writing is forever a learning process, there really isn't a right way of writing but there are definitely some things that will hinder your readers. Here is a list that I compiled both with my own experiences as well as some user submitted issues when it comes to reading works:

•Big blocks of text

° Typos/wrong word usage

•Using the same words

°Too spaced out/not indented where needed

• Dialogue runs into normal sentences

° Speakers/POVs change without notice

• Inconsistencies, either in general or story inconsistencies

°Lack of description/Too much description

• Bland/Artificial actions/dialogue

° Misuse of punctuation/lack thereof

• Capitalization errors

° Long winded sentences

• Using italics for actions

° Confusing formating

• Changing in Tenses

° Using wrong tags/falsely advertising (ex. Reader x Blank should have Y/N, not an OC/Authors name)

• Author notes/comics/pictures in middle of fic

° "~This is a transition~"

• Forcing a character to be OOC for sake of story

° Filler characters

• Not sticking to a specific genre/jumpy moods

Now don't be intimidated by this list! Some of these are pretty self explanatory so I won't go into a few of them. There are plenty of ways to avoid these and in some cases it is perfectly fine to use any of the above. 

Let's start off with the basics!

Sentence structure is the backbone of writing, but it's a very flexible rule. Obviously you have your subject, verb, object and whatnot, but the true art lies in word choice and length.

When it comes to sentences, size does matter. If your sentences are too short they will seem choppy and unfinished, whereas if they are long they will seem winded and unnatural. The biggest tool you can use to find out if a sentence is too short/long is by reading it aloud! If you run out of breath it's too long but if you finish abruptly it's too short.

Word choice is my favorite weapon to work with, I could describe a blue jay as a normal bird or as a mythical animal just by picking the right words!

"The blue jay flew across the field while it sang it's melody."

Or

"A creature with wings made of clouds swooped across the field whilst roaring out a devilish tune."

Word choice can easily convey tone/feeling so it's definitely an important element to writing! If you ever have trouble finding that perfect word try googling for synonyms! Also this website might help you find that one word that you just can't think of!

Grammar is also a very important part of writing. Using the right words and punctuation can be difficult sometimes but there are some easy fixes!

Spelling is an easy fix, if you forgot/don't know how to spell a word consulting a dictionary or Google is a surefire way of solving your problem. You can even find synonyms if you feel like you've used a word too much. 

Punctuation on the other can be a big more difficult, however. 

Here's a couple of sentences that helped me learn basic punctuation:

A comma splice walks into a bar, it has a drink then leaves. Commas are a means of sewing two sentences together to form a compound sentence. These are mainly used to list out things and to add fluidity to your works so they don't sound as choppy.

A question mark walks into a bar? Question marks are pretty self explanatory. They either raise a question or form uncertainty.

Two quotation marks "walk" into a bar. Quotations are used for both dialogue and metaphors. I personally love using them for sarcasm!

A gerund and an infinitive walk into a bar, drinking to drink. This one is a tougher one that I personally never learned from any of my classes. A gerund is basically a word that can act as a verb or a noun which would be "drinking". An infinitive is the base of a verb, in this case it's "drink".

The bar was walked into by a passive voice. A passive voice is when you emphasize the action and object of a sentence rather than the subject. You can find that a passive voice tends to use past tense where as an active voice uses present/future tense.

Three intransitives walk into a bar. They sit. They drink. They leave. An intransitive verb is an action verb, expressing a doable activity like arrive, go, lie, sneeze, sit, die, etc.

Some other things that I commonly see are the wrong usages of words. For example:

They: a group of individuals/pronoun "Yeah, they said he'd be here thirty minutes ago."

Their: a possessive pronoun "Leave their stuff alone!'

There: location "What's that over there?"

Then: event/action "Val went to the mall then skittered to the park."

Your: possessive "Your self esteem is lower than the Mariana's Trench!"

You're: a conjunctive "you are"

Affect: caused by actions "The fallen french fry really affected Val's mood."

Effect: caused by events "Climate change has a negative effect on my Cheerios."

Peaked: a summit "Val has peaked at 10:19pm"

Piqued: stimulate interest/curiosity "You have piqued Val's interest by mentioning food."

Do time: "Val is fixin' to do time if she keeps slacking."

Due time: "Val will come with hydration in due time."

Per say: not a thing

Per se: by/in itself "She didn't write this late at night, per se…"

There are different tools you can use to spice up your writings, from metaphors to innuendos, all the way to zeugmas! Let's go over the basic definitions of these bad boys.

Metaphor: a figure of speech that is not literally applicable. "The darkness surrounded us like a shroud." Obviously the darkness can't physically shroud anyone.

Innuendo: a sentence with a hidden meaning "Is that a gator in your pants or are you just happy to see me~" 

Zeugma: a sentence containing words that can be used literally and figuratively, like a love child of the two above. "Val and her coupon expired last week." This implies that not only did my Colgate coupon expire, but I died as well.

Paragraphs are a necessity when it comes to writing. Big blocks of text are an eyestrain to readers and it's easy to lose your place, even if it's only 150 words. It's always best to use Tab or at least 5 spaces when indenting. A paragraph should only be 5-7 sentences long, this is so it's not just multiple blocks of text

When to add a new paragraph:

° A new person comes in

• New idea/context

° Setting changes

• New person is speaking

° Time changes

• The "camera" moves

° Tone shifts

• 5-7 sentences has been reached

Paragraphs help you organize your work in a way and they make it easier for your readers' eyes!

POVs are also very important. First person and third person are by far the most common ones so I'll only touch on these two. It's very important to write a story in one strict POV as to not confuse the readers. You can however jump perspectives like Heroes of Olmpyus by Rick Rodian, as long as the ready can easily tell who is telling the story.

First person is a story that is told from first-hand experience. It's the same as if I told y'all the story on how I almost chopped off my thumb in woodshop class back in middle school. First person tends to use a lot of I's and my's

Third person is a story that is told from a narrators' point of view. Such as "Once upon a time" type of stories. I's and my's should only be used in dialogue

Dialogue is probably one of the most important features of any fic/story. Dialogue can push plots forward as well as add life to a character. Here's a simple exchanged:

"Hiya 'Splodey," Val chirped.

Katuski smirked, "M'dumbass."

Dialogue should always come with a pair of quotation marks. Commas and periods generally go inside the quotation marks whereas dashes, colons, and semicolons almost always go outside the quotation marks. Question marks and exclamation marks however can go either inside or outside, it goes by a case by case basis. Always indent whenever a different speaker is talking, running quotes into each other is a no-go because it causes confusion and eyestrain.

You have to be wary of using simple dialogue exchanges though, if they seem off try saying them out loud! Dialogue is one of my favorite things to write because you can weave personality into them, not to mention you can always hear people talking to get a better idea on how to write dialogue.

For example, I have a southern dialect, meaning I sound different than someone from the north! I use words like "y'all", "fixin'", "finna", "ain't" and have a different vocabulary than that of my northern friends. This means that the characters you're portraying should have their own way of speaking! This will not only add flavor to your dialogue but it also adds to their personalities/backgrounds.

Describing things can be just as valuable as dialogue, but it is a bit more complex. Sure we've all heard of the "show, don't tell" rule. Which is a good rule to follow, however too much showing is just as bad as telling. Again, reading out your work is a great way to tell if you're focusing too much on one thing. Another thing to keep in mind is importance, such as do we really need to know that the grass outside was bluegrass? Which in certain situations it would be! For example:

The grass around the disheveled house was brown and straw-like, with the exception of a ring of grass. Bluegrass. Which wasn't even native to this location.

This paints a pretty good spooky picture in the readers' mind and even adds the element suspense by the implied uncertainty.

OOC: Hi! I just found your blog because of a friend in the MH group chat, and could I please get a sorta more detailed recap than the one you've pinned? You don't have to, but I'd like to get caught up on everything, and it seems really well crafted from what I've seen! -Blue

I linked those all because there’s so much stuff that’s been fleshed out that it’d take forever to compile it all onto one document (I’m talking over 5,000+ words total).

(EDIT: I’m not sure how long this is but I think it’s probably gotten close to this  number lol)

This is also going to be pretty long, but I’ll try keeping it as short as possible (and it’s only going to be talking about what’s happened on the blog so far.) This will include information from the first 2 chapters, so if you haven’t read those be aware that there are spoilers here!

So, first and foremost, let’s talk about supernatural lore and the time loop. If you want to skip down to the next part just talking about the blog, it’s after the next black line (but you’ll probably be confused if you don’t read this).

In this world there is no “one true God” that rules everything. In reality, there’s a multitude of different supernatural creatures from all religions and mythology. This means there are Angels (ex: Seraph and Cherub), Demons (ex: Succubus and Kitsune), Dragons (ex: Hydra and Bakunawa), etc.

Or, in other words, everyone’s right in their religion because they all exist.

There’s a lot of lore here that I can’t go into without risking spoilers, but the last thing I can say is that The Operator is considered a type of  wraþþe demon (aka a demon of wrath). 

So, as Jay is shot and bleeding out the story mentions how he basically begged to any god or creature listening to help protect the others affected by their situation and how he wishes he could go back and save them all. Remember when I said that there are a bunch of supernatural creatures here? Well, they were there watching as he was dying and said his wish.

And what do they do? They panic. 

Why? Because they know that he is dying and they can’t let him die. People like Jay are extremely rare to come by because of his soul.

“His mother, who was away with the other leaders, was one of the most powerful Seraphim. His father, a mere mortal. But they loved each other greatly and their son had been blessed with a bright soul and a passion to support others. Yet here he was dying, after trying to help a childhood friend who had been possessed and tormented, the light within him desperately fighting to stay alive. No, this wasn't supposed to be happening.”

This explains why they are all freaking out. Because, while there are tons of different supernatural creatures, Angels and Demons still don’t get along and are in a constant fight. Some creatures, like the Phoenix, side with the Angels. They are sometimes also referred to as the “Celestial”. Others, like the Vampires, would side with the Demons. Sometimes they are referred to as the “Terrestrial”. Some creatures didn’t take any sides and were considered “Peacekeepers” or neutral parties.

The reasoning for the different names is because most fights between the Demons and Angels occur on the mortal realm. These fights aren’t the typical bloodbaths some people like to imagine, no, they are usually dealing with the interference of human life and the mortal plane.

The Angels, and usually the ones who side with them, are called Celestials because they typically are the creatures who have a harder time interacting with humans or going to the mortal plane while being visible. Demons and the neutral parties, on the other hand, are able to interact with the mortal plane a lot easier. This is why The Operator is able to be seen and have such strong effect on everyone.

This is also the reason why Jay was, and still is, being targeted by The Operator. When he was dying, The Operator was waiting to attempt to steal his soul and destroy it, because people with these souls are typically people who can interact with or be influenced by both the mortal plane and the supernatural plane. More often then not, these people don’t know about this and are targeted by both Celestials and Terrestrials. Because the Celestials have a harder time being able to influence the mortal plane, their goal is to try and use these people to help other humans, the world around them, and humans being hunted or possessed by Terrestrials. Demons, on the other hand, want to chaos destruction and chaos. They typically target humans and use them to create these things for them. In a sense, they use these humans that are possessed or corrupted by them as a food source. Also, it pisses off the Celestials, so there’s that bonus.

Only the most powerful Celestials and moderately powerful Terrestrials can actually view and interact with the mortal plane. All Terrestrials can view the mortal plane, however only the moderately powerful Celestials and most powerful Celestials can start the viewing of the mortal plane. For Celestials, if one creature starts a viewing of the mortal plane then any others who pass by can look over and see. Only the moderately powerful and the most powerful Celestials can actually go down and be there (even though they’re not visible to others). The most powerful Celestials are the only ones who can make themselves visible to humans and are able to interact with them.

Because Demons and other Terrestrials have such easy access to the mortal plane, this usually causes moderately powerful Celestials to be sent down to the mortal world, where they are unable to actually be seen or felt, and they usually fight to protect over the person/people that the demon use.

Now, Jay’s dad was one of the few exceptions to the rule of influence. This was because when he was in his late-teens him and some friends decided to mess with some witchcraft and supernatural stuff, but he was the only one actually affected ( because he was distantly related to another person with a partial-celestial soul, so there were very small traces of it in his blood. Even then, it was an incredibly small chance that this would actually happen). He had no idea this actually happened until he met Jay’s mom in the back of an alley one night. The rest is history.

So how does The Operator play into this?

The Operator saw Jay’s soul while he was attached to Tim and wanted to destroy or corrupt it. Because Jay was really close to Alex at the time, and The Operator couldn’t directly attach himself to Jay due to his soul being partially Celestial, The Operator decided to attach himself to Alex.

His goal was to cause destruction, chaos, and to cause as much pain/suffering to Jay as possible. (Note: he is classified as a moderately powerful demon. Still extremely hard to beat, especially for humans. To put this into context, if Jay currently fought a demon considered lowly powerful, he would most likely be left completely beat up and hurt, even though he has a chance of winning. These low level demons are still extremely powerful compared to humans)

While Jay’s dad had no problem being contacted by other Celestials or Peacekeepers, both his parents agreed they didn’t want him involved in the disputes of the supernatural world. They forbade any creatures from interacting with him and told them to keep him out of anything even remotely supernatural. Sadly, because Jay’s mom is a Seraph and is considered to have a lot of power, the other Celestials were not allowed to help him in the past. Their only rule was to make sure he didn’t get involved and that he didn’t get killed by a Terrestrial. That is why they panic so much.

Another note, People with partially Celestial souls like Jay are extremely rare, and some have stronger souls than others letting them see the different planes. Those with strong enough souls can interact with the two planes, which the Celestials find to be very helpful for when they want to help protect a person but are unable to manifest in the human world. These people sometimes act as messengers and communicators between worlds, but are usually not ones to advertise their abilities. Again, those who actually can interact with both planes are even more rare than Celestial-Human souls. Those with stronger souls are also targeted a lot more, which is why Jay made it all the way till meeting Tim and the others without ever being attacked by a Terrestrial.

So, what happens now? How did he get saved? What caused the time looping?

A phoenix decided to help him and give him what’s called a “blessing”. 

Whoa, whoa, whoa, another large and important piece of lore? Yep.

Different creatures can give what is called a blessing to a person, normally it barely affects them (ex: a little bit more good luck, passion for helping others, stealth and ability to hide crimes easier, more strategic mind, etc.), but because Jay already had a special soul used to reach out through the planes to help people, this is what caused him to gain his wings with the blessing from the Phoenix.

Blessings are typically small things that just boost another trait or part of a person. Some Terrestrials use their blessings to help make more chaos and increase damage, others don’t really care. The same thing applied to most creatures. Some care about giving their blessings out to peoples, others don’t. (Another note: a person can only have one blessing at a time, and the creature that blesses them can only bless 5 people total)

Jay’s soul cannot take blessings like a normal person’s soul, because it is a mix of human and celestial. When growing up, he always had a passion for helping others more than himself, and this was the minor influence of his soul. His powers were relatively weak though, and the only thing that actually occurred around others was that he had a stronger sense and ability of empathy and helping people through different event or what they were dealing with. He could’ve strengthened his powers to get them stronger and to possibly protect himself more, but because his parents refused to tell him he had no idea his soul was any different.

When the Phoenix gave Jay his blessing, it strengthened his soul, which let him gain more of an immunity to The Operator and other demon’s abilities/effects on humans (but only after he built an immunity to it himself. Before he wasn’t able to have any immunity at all. Think of it like someone who never had an immune system finally getting one). 

Because his soul was different, it could also warp the blessing to get certain things out of it. As a result, he gained his Green Jay wings (due to both the Phoenix and his mother being winged Celestials, also a small pun on his nickname), a stronger empathetic ability (now he can pick up on other’s emotions easier, but unknown to everyone for a while, they can pick up and feel his emotions. This can be dangerous in the fact that his negative emotions can end up hurting those around him by making them feel this way too. It’s small enough to where people can tell it’s not theirs if they focus but strong enough to be able to be felt), and is now able to touch (and if he used enough strength, harm) other demons (The energy drawback is extreme, especially if not trained or strengthened and if he attempted to kill a demon it would also result in him dying too as of right now). The other aspects that he got were a result of the warping of the blessing (claws, eye changes, markings, etc.) as a means to protect himself now that more Terrestrials will be targeting him. 

When Jay finally starts strengthening his powers, he’ll be able to start helping fend off The Operator (along with other Terrestrials) and he will be trying to help protect the other members of the Marble Hornets crew from the Terrestrials too (most won’t target his friends, though, they’ll only go after him. His friends would be considered collateral damage).

So, where does the time loop come into play?

A lot of lore suggests that Phoenixes are able to rebirth themselves in a fire, and because Jay was blessed by a Phoenix he is now stuck in a time loop until he can save all his friends and himself. (Remember, this is also a result of the blessing warping because of his soul. It was to benefit him in the largest way it could, and his last wish before he died was to help save his friends)

Now that we’ve gotten most the lore out of the way, let’s get onto the recap of what’s happened so far in this blog.

Jay was shot, got his powers/blessing, and woke up on March 23rd, 2006 with the Green Jay wings and an open bullet hole.

The bullet hole won’t bleed out or kill him, it’s more of an irritant than anything. It still hurts him, and will bleed non-stop (increases if his heart rate elevates). He ends up trying to clean it up and bandages it. (If his heart rate increases and he bleeds more, he has to change the bandages sooner than normal to prevent staining. He hasn’t mentioned much about the bandages on purpose, because he’s nervous and honestly terrified of the entire situation surrounding the bullet hole.)

He started this blog as a way to log any information he finds, along with having reference in case his memory was removed again. He refused to go over and create a new Twitter or YouTube account because he knew Alex had watched the previous videos, and he really didn’t want to risk Alex or any of the others seeing that.

He has both his old phone and the phone that lets him access the Tumblr. The other phone is the same as his phone he had when he was shot, but due to some timeline difficulties it has the date as May 27th, 2020 (aka the start date of the blog!). He finds out that he is unable to connect the phone to his camera/camcorder that he bought and is hesitant to risk it with anything else (they glitch and crash, any footage or pictures on the old devices will become corrupted and useless).

Because he’s back in time, that also means he had to start adjusting himself back into the routine he had before the Marble Hornets fiasco. No one remembers what happened and the only people he currently has contact to is Alex, Seth, Tim, and Brian. Alex knew him as a friend since middle school, Seth is more of an acquaintance of his known through Alex. Tim and Brian he now has contact to because of the Marble Hornets castings. He has not tried getting contact with Jessica or Amy yet.

Within the first couple days, someone sent in some code to mess with him. He then started being on guard for any sign of TTA or The Operator, even though he doesn’t think it was them.

He then goes to class after a while and another classmate sees his wings. They asked him if he was cosplaying for an even or something, and even though he had no idea what it meant he just said yea. They complimented the realistic style of them and went about their day. Jay had no idea previously that he had his wings or other physical changes.

He had felt something weird on his back, but due to being recently thrown back in time he was so focused on trying to seem ‘normal’ he didn’t realize he had the few things that literally scream “somethings not right”. That is how he finds out about his wings and other features. He has managed to hide them, but he hasn’t revealed how. He stops posting for a while even though he said he was going to send out an update post with a breakdown of what he knows (and wants the public to know)

After around 3 or 4 days, Jay finally posts again and says he woke up in Rosswood with no memory of getting there or any memory past posting that text-post. He later says he’s starting to regain the memories but they’re blurry and he can’t understand them. He also couldn’t remember clearly what happened leading up to him being shot at first, but even though he doesn’t say it that’s something that is included in the returning memories. 

He notes that when he woke up there seemed to have been a struggle, but he is still unsure what caused that. He doesn’t think it was Masky or Hoodie, but he’s still keeping a look out for them now too.

After that, he posted the pictures of his camcorder that he had tried hooking up to his phone to transfer the pictures, but it was completely black due to the resulting glitch. He then posted a couple hours later the picture of the screen working and say that he finally got it working again but was hesitant to try connecting his phone to it again.

He currently doesn’t know if he has a masked state or not (hint: he doesn’t. But that doesn’t mean Skully isn’t going to make an appearance later on!) and that resulted in him being on the look out for any suspicious masks too.

His next post is him saying he’s nervous about the auditions that are the next day, and he that he knows he can’t try asking Alex to cancel the film because it would seem even more suspicious. (Alex is already very concerned because of the days of silence and the sudden “cosplay” that someone saw him in, but hasn’t said it outright)

After someone suggested it, he decided to try convincing Alex at the end to go with Tim and Brian to Applebee’s (and he ended up getting dragged along as well). He also complains because the auditions were set to go from 11 am to 7 pm, and he really didn’t want to leave the blog alone for so long when he had also just recently lost his memory. He goes, tries posting a little bit, but then Alex got curious and he had to stop.

The same person who suggested that, though, put emphasis on Jay’Bird’, making him concerned and suspicious because he hadn’t said anything about the changes (and he still hasn’t! He’s really nervous to say it in case the others see).

Marble Hornets auditions were March 30th, 2006. That was when he finally got contact with Tim and Brian, but his behavior was noticed by Alex and he’s been asked multiple times if he’s okay. They both know he’s not, but Jay hasn’t told anything to Alex. (Can you guess what tipped Alex off? Hint: it’s something that some trauma victims experience)

Later, the person who suggested taking Alex to Applebee’s explained they thought it was some nickname irony or something, which he said he understood. He also noted he forgot how fast some of you guys were at figuring things out or making theories/cracking codes. He also goes on to explain a little more about the changes his body has but stay away from anything bird related.

Someone asked why he was being so secretive with the other changes and notes that if it can be passed off as cosplay it shouldn’t be that big of a deal. His response is basically “have you even seen some of the cosplays out there???”. He goes on to say that even though cosplay wasn’t as big back then there were still some extremely large and complex ones out there, and basically gives away that the changes are large enough to be extremely noticeable and that the smaller ones probably weren’t actually noticed by the student who asked him.

Someone also asked if he was planning on telling the others, and he said that he wasn’t going to yet. He really doesn’t want to show anyone the phone and is hoping no one sees or notices the changes in appearance/behavior.

He also explains a little bit later about the changes and there are some that can come on command but none of them can be affected by him wanting them to go away (meaning, if they showed up around the others then he can’t force them to go away. He can make them appear at his will, though!)

When someone asks if he has something like bird wings, as a joke, he just says “No comment”.

If i had to pick an American Cookie that can be bought in the store today, hands down it would be this one.

Living in New Mexico for 20 years, i rarely see a black person. I can go 785 days without seeing an African American. Because i have.

So, it's shocking to go to Arkansas or even Oklahoma and see large groups of Black People and i stare. I don't forget they exist due to the internet.. But I never see them so it's like visiting Mount Rushmore or the Grand Canyon. Its this natural amazing marvel. And I just stare usually with my jaw dropped like some social retard. Which I'm not typically. And Hey -- I'm not the only New Mexican that does that shit. We simply have a serious minority of African Americans here. I understand places like Mississippi don't think they're a minority. But if i can leave my house every day and not see a African American, then you're a minority. Just as in higher areas of African American Domination, i like to call it, there isn't many Latina or Hispanic or Mexicans as there are here. In Mississippi, they're a minority and here they're all "bitch we rule this shit! We own New Mexico!"

So due to actual minority being true of African Americans (in the 90s i picked it because it was always claimed officially so I just accepted as NYC is a huge vast mix of all kinds of culture. I figured they actually went out and counted them. But i wanted to explain to those whom don't travel and don't experience life in other places in the United States.

So in the 90s the Harringtons and I and as he preferred to be called, Captain Negro, his super hero name. Captain Negro del ela Ponte if you wanted to get legal about it. Decided to pick an "American Cookie" we could easily purchase for Sunday nights. And of course it had to be absolutely perfect.

"Taste Great but Look the Part as Touched by a negros heart and soul" said Captain Negroponte as I called him or Captain Negro Party or Captain Negro Parte especially when i didn't know how to explain something.

I tell you. I've always been smart. Miss Leena always hides and plays dumb and just tells history. But to compare and contrast and make analogies i truly learned from this man whom was my English Compilation Teacher, a True Super Hero.

For the cookie experiment. I talked to Miss Leena but she wouldn't explain. She just gave me the type of cookie and told me I would know what to do.

William Harrington said, "I dont know to me a cookie is just a cookie and my wife makes them great!"

And Willingima. we called her, Harrington, at the (jokingly) threat of our own lives said she did not know either she just had to bake she had said as when quietly embroidered under the table a gift for the Captain Hero's family.

So he came over and we told him and his eyes lit up and he was bouncing around with excitement at the table. "So the cookies are.... But I sure don't know how to explain anything but the chocolate"

"Okay explain me"

I did

"And these are just regular old fashioned chocolate chip, not chocolate on chocolate dough or white chocolate chip?"

"I could ask miss leena but im sure it's the old fashioned."

"Lets call her"

She said that the Chocolate dough (black/dark brown dough) with white chocolate chips would be An African cookie -- for their culture here in America and in actually Africa.

So we were all at the phone all listening in, the phone turned all the way up. Now this is the 90s wall phone no speaker phone ability.

So Captain Negroponte told me back at the table, "so you know the old fashioned. Idk why she wouldn't explain the chocolate on chocolate because of the two different browns. But you know I'll stay out of it. I think i do know the sugar but let me just check. What did she say on the phone to you when she called?"

"Well she called just out of the blue. Asked for Sabrina and i thought she was asleep and so i said she was as she hadn't came down (stairs -- our bedrooms were up and i was just living there For the summer or however long until i had to go back to work into the city i moved out October 9, 1991 due to riots in Brooklyn because i had to go help as i spoke about this last week. Officially moved in July 4th of the same year) and she said and i quote "well just tell sabrina this, that i called and she needs to do a cookie experiment. A white old fashioned cookie of chocolate chip flavor and a sugar cookie. She should know what to do with all of your help" she sounded old and she said her husband wasn't home and she was just resting. So i said "well ill let you go" and she said no and wanted to know all about our enterprise feeding the Street neighborhood kids and asked about money and she said "well Sabrina can help" do you -- do you have money? I sure am tired of eating hot dogs myself. This is getting expensive! I mean for us"

I replied "i do have some... Ill talk to Steve to see what we should do and how much and the best way to go about this"

"No now you seem nervous and she said you have a lot"

"Billions" she said the same time I said "millions"

"And you said some.. You said what? What you got now hon?"

"You said I'm a billionaire and i wouldn't ever lie to anyone but Steve explained to me, hes my lawyer, he said that i needed not to explain how rich i am but if someone needed money I'm to say i only have one million dollars and that is it. And i said "but that is a lie!" And he said "but no it is not not when I'm not allowing you to give out more than thousands without my approval" and i was mad!!! But in the end i saw what Steve said i should see. Its dangerous to advertise how rich i am"

"Bull shit! We probably have the richest girl in the world here sitting at our table and im telling her to penny pinch! Babe! We're having steaks next week! Put that on the list!"

"I'll pay you guys all back!"

"No!" "No!" "No!"

"No. Yes i mean i know you all did it from the goodness of your hearts but you shouldn't suffer. And i didn't realize that you were. I mean i thought you just wanted to eat hot dogs. I didn't know there was any difference"

"Blah!"

"So what I'll do. Because Steve said I'm allowed up to thousands and you're still in hundreds last i checked. $991 for the last three weeks for the entire house budget. So I'll at least double that and give Captain Nero the same. For the time y'all have spent working and then what i meant i would have to talk to Steve is that I would have to design a plan for the future. What he's talked about is supplying a credit card with a limit capable of exceeding the design purchases. So like if you need $900,000 a month then the credit card would allow $1 million. That's what hes explained to me. Then he would supply 12 blank checks for the year then all you would do is call the number on the back of the card once monthly to find out the balance and get the address, write the check and then mail it to the credit card company. Easy as that. He would get the bills to look over to see you're not scamming me. Then he can stop payment on the rest of the checks if you are and cancel the card. That goes for everyone. So for this i think that is what he would pick. It sounds simple. Of course, I don't pay bills or anything like that. Steve always handles it for me. But I'll still have to talk to Steve to get that program under way. And I'll make sure he pays you and you and of course you for past supplies and your time"

So they agreed to the extra payment but wanted to do work free. Mrs Harrington got $15 per day for taking care of me. And still does although she doesn't take care of me anymore, her influence still lives within me and is what made me who I truly am today.

If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't ever asked criminals how they wanted their ending to be. I would have ripped them off the streets and tortured them one by one ripping off pieces of their body while injected with a chemical that made them highly alert and aware of what was happening. For 6 years and 600 days. Them never knowing when it would be the day to lose something they deemed important.

Instead of dungeons and torture chambers, they have a chance at luxury and happiness.

Those asking for death instead have a right to live in peace and make their amends and do as they need. The miserable are killed first to stop their pain and suffering. 72 wanted vacation before. They got that.

If it wasn't for the Harringtons and Captain Negro, never would that occurred.

They saved a wretch like me and in turn, I saved those worst than me. As Jesus would. She taught me all about the belief of Jesus and who they believed he was

Over Captain Harrington's right shoulder was a cross with me looking down or asleep. They eyes were closed. I felt it was the most accurate representation of me. It even had lumps on it's chest. But incorporate Jesus since he was such a big part of Catholicism and decor in the house, daddy said that would make Jesus alive in the house and keep my secret. But allow my full powers to bloom.

And it worked.

So Captain Negroponte said that day that he kept getting questions from one particular kid as tall as me about White Supremacy and how his family taught him that all white people were bad and "only play with nigger kids" so he was certain he knew how to explain the white sugar cookie as long as i could do "the chocolate chip without fail then it would all be good and life would be perfect for this particular child"

"Well she didn't say --"

"She said Bake. And i was transformed back into her kitchen and had a white plastic bowl which i put into the oven -- it was empty and out it came a clay not crystal like ours but ceramic Brown bowl with the white inside. So i know what to say about White people tanning to make 2 races so we all have to support the black"

"Shew! Thank you! So I was at the kitchen in the sink.. I mean -- i said that backwards -- so anyway I'm in the kitchen and i see the silver sink and the bowl appears before my eyes and suddenly im holding it in my hands and i went to hand the phone to you as i tried to hand the bowl to her in my standing hands and she didn't sound old like she did in the phone, she sounded very young and sing song. And she said "no the children" so what we have to do is give the bowl to each of the children and let them mix it themselves. That will help white supremacy in however that means. So then the black kids all add the chocolate chips. And then when we bake. That will represent the Muslims that i used to help when in was younger and who framed me to be as i am today. But the kids don't all know that so it will represent all the darker but lighter skin than black you know like Puerto Riccans and Vietnamese and Chinese and all those sorts of people and how the African Americans have inserted their "language" into us to make the world such an amazing place. Without them we wouldn't be the cookie we are today here in 1991. Isn't that right, Jesus?"

"Oh don't look at him so harsh. What do you need me to do?"

"Okay that could work. We will just let Captain Nero know and I'm sure he could come up with two great stories to pass the time. And you will pay?"

"Oh yes. Yes of course. And when I talk to Steve I'll ensure Miss Harriet Tubman is getting her cut although she always paid on her own and said she was on solid woman and could make it doing all she pleased, her husband is still working. But he's a police sergeant so I know its not for money. But she could buy her something nice with his pension."

"Pension?"

"Oh he has two. He works a lot. One thinks she's like 80 and the other 102 or 103 i think it is. So one will be cut surely i assume. She said she doesn't think she can make it to 120 without them getting onto her"

"And his paycheck?"

"Oh he donates it to science. They own their own trailer and car and BBQ"

"BBQ?"

"BBQ Grill. Of course though if i gave her money she would probably just clothes the whole entire neighborhood. I'll ask Steve if thats what she wants or that i could do. She said that was the only thing she had left in life to apply for. I guess she always knew i had money thats why she gave me the evil eye. She always provides them gloves in the winter -- except she buys them in the summer when they're cheaper and puts them in a box to save them till it gets cold again. I tell you. She is smart. So about these sugar cookies. I sure hope it works. It seems the opposite of what we set out to do. All white with beautiful crystals on top. She said to make them look so worthwhile and be as perfect as possible..."

So while the White Supremacist cookie is after all just a cookie that we used to explain to a child that was deeply courageous to learn more and actually educated his parents and they hugged me with forgiveness, myself being white.

I have explained the example. And to further educate, the Sugar Cookie in all other reality when not used for a demonstrations, is just a cookie we bake when we have no other additives.

But as Captain Negro (you may call him Captain Nero as Mrs Harrington would as she refused to "see" any color other than the colors of the rainbow") explained we should always try to find something good to add to something that is empty of extras. Be it fruit from like the Garden of Eden or be it nuts or seeds like Big Bird from Sesame Street, prefers, we should always fill our life and our cookies with as much goodness as possible. But some days, he said, some days its okay to have just a plain ole bit of sugar. As long as it's full of love and not hate.

So please do enjoy your plain white sugar cookies that are made with love. Black Panthers nor "all" white people do not encourage prejudice -- even if it's just against a cookie.

We all have been there. Some are good in coping. Some go antsy...

So here are a list of things I suggest to do when you are bored.

When it's really silent and preferrably dark (or some lights on what you fancy), you blast or listen to music that hits you on you👌😤 just right. Alaina Castillo has a really nice voice. In my opinion, her covers and those compilations where she sings you to sleep are so good. It calms me.

Challenge yourself. Have a fun game with yourself! Annnnd yesss... I know it sounds lonely but hear me out. This doesn't really appeal as a group activity. An example: you have this really favourite pastries you buy in the mall. Then you think to yourself: heyyyy i probably can make these myself! So you google some recipes and try it. Or when you read some news and you feel inspired of that news so you try and challenge yourself. For example playing an instrument or sport. OFCOURSE. In life, not all people will be too happy with your choices but if you think it can make you happy and there is no harm done so why dont you do it secretly 😀 once you feel comfortable of coming out you can do so. Also i dont advertise anything illegal. Pls

Eating. Ok. Cliche. Get over it. Ooohhh so you are teaching us to be gluttons o m g. Like isn't stress eating like baaad?? What I meant was to look at it in a another perspective. Go order food you have never tried and want to try. That's one. Like a new flavor. (but we heard this one a lot of timess) then go find your favorite food in different stores and compare them. Then try to rank them. Or another idea! Order every item on the menu differently till you order everything in the menu. Dont order all at once. Seriously DONT waste food. But slowly eat away to the top and find your favourites. Reminder: dont be an asshole if you dont like the food. It happens ya knowww. Not all are accustomed to ur tongue ur majesty lolol

Do the dumbest reasonable shit you can think of. Idk. For laughs. It's fun when you think of it right. Don't inspire yourself with weird youtubers clickbait titles. What i mean is something like ordering your burger but order it with out the patty. Or find the saddest movies knowing its spoilers and try not to cry. (ok that seems to go in the challenge category). Learn how to swim backwards. Eat the milo powder. Well i meant being silly is ok. Dont worry about it. Just dont be dangerous.

Decorate your room. I was thinking of having a water for the floor's wallpaper so everytime i wake up I'll freak out why my bed is in water. (dont force if your scared) my bro also put up a huge sticker of a ghost from scooby doo and it scared my nieces. Now it's like a funny story of how everyone was atleast once scared of it. You could make your room look classy or really weird. All will be possible with creativity. Money shouldn't be an issue. A well thought room will sum up your personality and be ur special space.

Write letters! Address them to people you want to lay your thoughts on. It is your choice if you choose to send it or keep it like a diary. With the dates on it and hide them in a box so that in a few years those letters be really precious. Orrrrr if it is hate messages i prefer you to shout it off. Honestly negative thoughts are better to be expressed than well up to a huge thunder cloud. But not to be brought around as a grudge and as a irritable excuse. Writing to yourself in a few years and replying again so that in another few years that version of yourself will reply so that it will continue for on so long. It's nice to ask your future self some questions and in that future you get to answer seems so enlightening. I did this as a joke and i read my old self burning who I am now. Weird but funny.

You kind of already talked about this, but I'm always really nervous about getting something cheap because I'm afraid it won't be durable. I look at reviews, I especially try to look for ones with more stars/positive reviews, but there are always sometimes those negative reviews that say something isn't good or fell apart and I don't want that to be me. I'm nervous I'll be wasting money.

This is a really fair concern, anon. Most of us are in the untenable situation of needing stim toys, not being able to afford the full-price/official toys and not being able to afford to replace broken cheaper toys. It’s why I like to review just about everything I come across, even if fifty people have talked about it already. With fidget cubes and spinners, the market is so flooded right now that it’s hard to know what to expect, and a great many of these items are less than great. It’s why I am so grateful for all the community members who send in asks and submissions about prices, especially if they also talk about how well the toy works!

Please note that you do have some recourse if something is broken or unusable on purchasing or soon after purchasing. You are absolutely not expected to just take the loss of money in that case, and should (if you can) put in a complaint with the vendor or return the item to store. (I’ve already had to do that with a spinner of mine.) The problem, for us, is if something breaks a few weeks after purchasing, at which time it’s harder to defend (especially for enthusiastic stimmers) that unreasonable use wasn’t the cause. Likewise, it’s harder to do something about noisy fidget cubes that still work as advertised: where the lines are grey in terms of function, we have much less recourse.

(And I’m always keeping in mind that it’s hard for many ND people to do this. I was having panic attacks on the way back to the store while returning my poorly-made spinner. Some of us just can’t return a toy or submit a complaint to a vendor.)

I think the items that fall in the “potentially dodgy” category are spinners, fidget cubes, non-homemade slimes and doughs, knock-off Tangles and squishies - things all readily available right now, offline and on. Especially from places like Wish, Banggood, eBay, Aliexpress and dollar shops! These all have cheaper variations and buying them involves some risk. I think the knock-off Tangles have least risk (they feel subtly wrong to me, but they function like any Tangle, just looser) but everything else has a reasonable chance of odour, noise or breaking. (I haven’t had good success with the cheaper squishies. My red apple is now more glue holding it together than it is apple.) You might also find that a lot of the cheaper dollar shop/party section items like plastic slinkies and puzzles vary in quality, too.

I know that these items cost more, but if you’re after items that are less likely to break and can afford the additional shipping costs, check out fidget toy suppliers like Stimtastic and Fidget Club. (There’s also now Zuru-licensed-from-Antsy Labs’ Fidget Cubes available at US Toys R Us stores, although these seem to be a cheaper quality version of the original Kickstarter cube. Likely better than the cheap knock-offs, though.) If you’re in Melbourne, Australia, I’d take the trip down to Sensory Oasis for Kids. Their items have been vetted for quality; it’s part of what these vendors are trying to bring to the community. There are more affordable items - each store has a range of things under $5. You can also find Tangle Creations-branded Tangles on Amazon and Fat Brain Toys (or at Toyworld stores if you’re Aussie) and I haven’t had a problem with one that wasn’t my fault to begin with.

The thing to keep in mind, though, is that even a high quality item can have many good reviews and one poor one. Things happen. Factory errors happen. We can try our hardest to get a good toy and sometimes we end up with something dodgy - in the same way we try to buy a toy we think works for us and end up with something we use once and stash in a drawer. There’s a lot of experimentation involved in stimming and stim toys, which is a hard stress on those of us without money - and much of the reason why I wanted to collate so many toy reviews here.

I think, at the end of the day, you either choose to go with a more reliable supplier or you take the risk on something cheap. Neither choice is the best for many of us, but that’s the way the market seems to be at the moment!

In the meantime, we’ll keep compiling posts and reviews in the hope of giving you more information.

Just know that it’s okay to be nervous, anon. We’re in an awkward situation of needing the toy and not having the money to waste in the first place. What your feeling is entirely valid and reasonable. I wish I had a way to ease it, aside from pointing you to stores like Stimtastic, but I feel they’re your best bet in finding good toys for the smallest amount of money.

The Future Of Digital Marketing In B2B Lies In These Three Ideas

There’s an interesting trend I’ve watched emerge in the B2B marketing world: It’s the budding relationship with digital marketing.

Every year, I ask colleagues in the technical B2B markets we serve (which are health care, life science and biotechnology) about their biggest marketing priorities of the year and what their barriers to success are, and we even dive deeply into topics like their social media presence or whether they use microsites. I do this to get a better understanding of this industry’s views and sentiments about marketing for the upcoming year and to better understand digital trends in the industry, and I compile these results into an annual report that I share with colleagues, respondents and webinar attendees.

There are a lot of tactics and takeaways one can glean from these insights. For example, this year, there’s a general consensus that no technology can overcome the need for engaging content or a well-crafted strategy, that audiences demand a more transparent digital experience and that organizations are prioritizing organic growth and driving demand for their brand.

Just a few years ago, many companies were hesitant to even dive into digital marketing tactics like paid social media advertising. And now, many of them are making investments in both the talent and technology necessary to become digital marketing mavens, and they’re all, more or less, in the same place on the digital front.

In general, this is all good news. But I wouldn’t interpret this as a sign that the B2B industry is doing OK when it comes to digital marketing. That’s because the market’s expectation of digital excellence is far higher than what many B2B companies currently offer. B2B companies don’t just compete with one another for attention; they’re also competing with the best digital experience our audience has ever had anywhere and in any context. Just think about how easy it is to buy an airline ticket, and the experience that goes along with it: Customers can choose their seat, prepay for their Wi-Fi and earn more opportunities (points) to fly every time they fly. That’s the ease with which someone is expecting to do business with a B2B company.

Although many organizations in the B2B space are making the right kinds of investments in digital marketing infrastructure, I believe that the future of digital marketing in our industry lies in these three areas.

1. Customer Data Privacy

At our fingertips, we have access to so much quantitative information about ourselves, our health and our personal lives — something we once considered to be private. Yet people are realizing that this data is available to companies, too.

Privacy and personal data are at the center of a lot of important conversations, and they’re becoming exponentially more important. Spurred by the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation, the U.S. is now considering its own version of data protection laws and policies. Because of this, and continued data breaches or privacy concerns with big social media channels constantly playing out in the media, people are becoming more concerned about their privacy — so much so that I think many of them may stop engaging on said social media channels.

Marketers have a responsibility to handle people’s personal data with care. As you craft your marketing strategies, keep customer data privacy top of mind. 

2. Search Engine Marketing And Optimization

Every campaign, blog post or sponsored post is competing with every other campaign, blog post or sponsored post. Our audiences are going through a content shock  — or, in other words, a content overload. And it seems that the only cure may be for them to avoid all forms of marketing. This may pose a substantial problem for organizations with a message to share. That’s why I believe that search engines are — and will remain — one of the most neutral grounds for organizations to meet their potential customers.

Companies that focus their efforts on search engine optimization can provide relevant information to their customers who are still in the fact-gathering and searching phase of their buying journey. By providing content they can use to make decisions, and making it easy to find, you can help make your company and content top of mind when it comes time for them to make a purchase.

3. Account-Based Marketing

I believe it’s time for marketers to take the long view with their customers — the really long view. One of the most successful and efficient ways to do this is to employ an account-based marketing (ABM) program. In short, ABM is a strategic marketing approach that targets the best-fit accounts for sales and marketing efforts. ABM helps companies take the long view with customers because it requires the creation of a long-term strategy and requires companies to consider their long-term goals with acquiring an account.

The entire process is a multichannel, highly targeted approach to marketing. And although some ABM tactics can be done offline, some of the most effective ABM tactics  — such as IP address-targeted ads, customized website experiences and personalized videos — occur online.

By targeting the right customers and delivering content that’s exclusively relevant to them, companies can extract a lot of waste from their marketing and merge marketing and sales efforts with much more deftness. ABM takes fundamental marketing and flips it on its head. The result is a marketing system that can run efficiently. 

Companies that are looking to get started with ABM can begin by identifying their ideal customer profile and dream accounts.

As you prepare for the next year and begin to consider where to invest in your digital marketing infrastructure, bear in mind these three areas of digital marketing, and consider how they can or will affect your organization. I believe that by doing so, you can set your organization up for a successful future in an ever-shifting marketing landscape.

Izien's Birth Story

Every birth story since the beginning of time has been unique. Izzy’s has been no different. I've decided to share Izien's birth story today, knowing that there are plenty of moms out there that would relate to this story and may even find it helpful. Giving birth in a new country is no easy task. While it's amazing that Izien was born in Chicago, the birth as it is being quite a ride.

I had a healthy pregnancy. I gained about 12 pounds. I was regular with my runs and walks. Those who know me, know that I've always been plump. However, I managed to fall within the BMI during my pregnancy. I secretly believe Izien was conceived on my birthday last year, but I didn't know until March. And thus, begins the story of how Izien Marshal Joe came into existence.

While this post is about Izien and me, it is also about the information I wish I knew. I had just moved to be with Joe and so hadn't been in the country for long. My pregnancy was confirmed by a walk-in clinic. The doctor knowing that I'm new to the country handed me a recommendation for an OBGYN (Obstetrician & Gynecologist). Wanting to have more options, I turn to the Internet. I compile a list of names that I liked and called them. The first 2 asked when my due date was and upon hearing that I'm only 7 weeks asked me to call back when I was 12 because that was when they start giving out appointments. 

The important thing to remember here is that the doctor doesn't become ‘your’ doctor till after the first appointment. Their office must first run your insurance, your credit card etc. and the visit - all culminate to it. This is a good thing because this acts as a safety blanket. We don’t need to commit to a doctor till after the first appointment.

 The next 3 informed they had a waitlist and one of them had an opening in November. I was due in November (at least according to my calculations). At 10 weeks I still hadn't found a doctor. It was beginning to look as though I should have found an OBGYN and then got pregnant. 

As soon as you enter a new country, start looking up doctors. You don't have to be pregnant to visit an OBGYN. This is the simplest way we can avoid getting stuck in the system and being at its mercy. 

 I called the recommendation given to me and I was set up with an appointment immediately. Here's tip number 2 for moms like me who has no idea about the system.

Know all about your insurance. There are mainly 2 kinds here and some doctors except only one or the other or some both. Call your insurance and get a detailed overview of everything that you can benefit out of it. For example, BCBS (Blue Cross Blue Shield) has an option where it completely covers $30.00 over the counter medicines every 3 months*.  This is information that they don't just advertise around. So be sure to ask. Ask and you shall receive

 She was good enough. That's what I kept thinking. She wasn't the best. She barely spent any time explaining anything.

Speak up! I mean it. It doesn't matter if you’re conscious of your accent or if she thinks you’re dumb. It's your body and you deserve to know each and everything happening to it. All the test should be explained in detail. Thankfully, I always had the reports looked over by my uncle who is a doctor back in Bahrain. But I really should have spoken up.

 As I had predicted, my due date was on November second. I visited her for my 8-month appointment which was around Oct 15 and I was greeted by an older doctor who resembled a lot like her. She was my doctor's mom who co-owned the clinic with her. She informs me that as her daughter is getting married on the 4th of November, she will be taking over from here on. WHHHHAATTTTT?!!?!? I didn't react. I didn't let the anger, anxiety, disappointment show on my face. I just went through with the appointment.  On hindsight, I really should have but the fear of not finding a doctor on time and of this medical system made me do nothing.

Hospital - This is another super important factor. You may have a hospital in mind but your doctor most probably doesn't 'visit’ there. Which means you need to ask for a list of hospitals that your doctor uses beforehand and review them and see if you like them and if you don't you get to move onto another doctor. A good NICU among other things are definitely on the top of the list and if you’re like me and like to have a say on where you're giving birth then you're better off looking for doctors who actually go there.

I was presented with 3 hospitals to choose from and I chose the one that was the closest. Thankfully, it also had a great neonatal unit. My last visit with her (my doctor’s mom) was on Nov 8th and she wanted me to get admitted immediately. She said my fluids were low. I got admitted. But it was because of her that I was in a situation where I may have to have a C- section. I really wanted to change my doctor.

The nurse told me that I can always change my doctor and that I’d be automatically transferred to the in-house OBGYN. It is 100% true in all states because I opted for that and I can’t tell you how happy I am with the decision.

 They had not only hidden the marriage date until the last moment, but they also postponed my appointment to after my due date because according to her the I wasn't even close to giving birth on Oct 31. So, she made the executive decision to meet me well after my due date by which time I had to be immediately admitted. It wasn't fair to me, Izien or my body. Izien was born via c-section on November 10 at 11pm and it was such an out of body experience. I was so glad I chose to change my doctor and so glad that I knew I had that option. Nobody deserves to go through with something as beautiful as bringing a baby with people who lied to them and didn't have their best interest at heart.

 Midwife & Doulas - Either/or guys! I wish at least one was present during all my nerve wrecking decision of changing a doctor. Ask your insurance about it. Midwives are usually covered and sometimes doulas too. And sometimes even lactation consultants. When the baby is born via c-section and the baby must be placed in NICU, it delays the feeding and often the baby will have a hard time latching. Izien and I struggled with this too, Therefore, lactation consultants. Doulas are so important for women like us who are in a new country. Doulas are birth companions, a non-medical person who assists the mama before, after and during the childbirth whereas Midwives are trained health professionals that can take the delivery with or without a doctor present. I most definitely plan on having a midwife for my next pregnancy.

 He wasn’t making any effort on coming out and I was way over my due date so obviously C- section. It was scary but not as overwhelming as I imagined but I wish I had mentally prepared for both the scenarios (Natural and c-sec). I didn’t even consider C-section so everything after was a slow learning process for Izien and me. He came out 5.2 ounces while both trimestral ultrasound showed 6 and 7.5 ounces but somehow, in the end, my baby was so small. But he was healthy and kicking it and that’s all that mattered.

 We didn’t get to click a whole lot of pictures of Izzy till he turned 2 months but here are some we got at the NICU, on the next day! We aren’t supposed to, but we be sneaky.
