thought to myself how absurd it was that nightmare has so many designs to himself alone.

I don't think I know other characters that have this many drastic changes done to them just in the span of their plotline. like y'know, sometimes characters do change from certain events, maybe get injuries, different clothes or haircut, or go through arcs that change their personality.

but nightmare here literally changes to entirely different characters as the plot goes on, design wise and personality wise.

and it's super fitting for him, cuz he's the one character that puts the theme of identity on the forefront. he spends his entire life searching for what it means to be 'nightmare', so he goes through a thousand different identities to find the one that truly defines him. but at his core, he's still the same nightmare he's ever been.

even after becoming king and becoming everything he thinks he ever wanted to be (rich, powerful, ect.), he's still unhappy with himself because he spent all this time rejecting his actual true self in favor of being somebody that wasn't (and could never be) him.

what truly defines nightmare is that he is bound to no limitation on what he could be, but still choses to put those limitations on himself.

what truly defines nightmare is nothing, and being nothing scares him to death, so he would rather be everybody else but himself, not once considering that maybe he could've changed that nothing into anything he wants, but fear just blinds him that much.

the irony of it all is that all he truly wanted at the end of the day was to be his own person, to be someone outside of sans's shadow, but only ended up jumping from sans's shadow to mettaton's. the only way he found to not be a clone of sans was to become a clone of someone else.

damn... maybe the true nightmare was the friends we made along the way.

Are you an anthropologist with at least one news article/other coverage posted about your work? I have a project where I have to interview you about how the media covered your article. I was super sick for almost a month and now I am frantically emailing anthropologists to get an interview, but as many are very busy and I need it by Thursday I am resorting to this. We would have to primarily exchange emails unfortunately, but mutually assured destruction means I don't think either of us will dox each other lol

If you are not an anthropologist, please consider reblogging. I want to be able to pass in this assignment. I think this is still ethical as I'm not really giving anyone anything in exchange aside from someone's eyes on their work

I think what really gets me about the "haha 'nonbinary' person who presents like the gender they were raised as (implying they're not really trans/nonbinary)" thing is that there is no nonbinary transition like MtF or FtM because there is no generally accepted nonbinary gender with specific traits to transition to. Appearance-wise and/or surgically, someone raised as a girl transitioning to be more masculine & someone raised as a boy transitioning to be more feminine are valid in their own right (and nonbinary ppl have just as much of a right to those transitions as binary ppl), but to insist that nonbinary people should follow general FtM/MtF transitions to be respected is exorsexist (and just generally fucked up in a bodily autonomy way) because we're not FtM/MtF. We're nonbinary.

You know, something that always annoyed me more than plastic straws in drinks were the plastic covers over them. I mean I get it, it keeps the drink inside if someone tilts the cup, but I never understood why it wouldn’t be reasonably viable to make them out of cardboard? Those plastic covers always get discarded with the sometimes-cardboard-made cup, and they break into tiny transparent plastic shards suuuuper easy. They seriously break apart from a light touch after being under the elements for a few days, I can tell you from futile attempts at cleaning the roadside. It’s a nightmare to deal with!

I’m super frustrated that the only outcome of “plastic straws are bad!” was switching to cardboard straws, but completely ignoring the other single-use plastic(s) in the setup. Often the ones that are always included in the drink by default, too, or are mandatory in some situations. Fucking hello!!!!??????

grass demon as a human?

I prefer the grass demon as an alter of Fern's but babbs and I had fun w/ this idea.

They spange near the bus stop and Fionna would toss them $3 every so often, so they got attached and came on too strong. They try to pay Fionna back but they approach life so differently that it always works out wrong/appears malicious. (They're very cluster A.) GD challenges Fionna's convictions pretty routinely: they set their tent up outside of her apartment, and she's vehemently against street sweeps but she really wants to call one in to get them to leave, as an example. They meet Fern through their job (their dad's landscaping business) and, again, come on too strong. They believe in twin flame junk and are convinced they can see Fionna and Fern's connection, so they glom onto Fern because she's much more of an insecure pushover.

Babb wanted them to be roommates but I like the grass demon just being a weird, offputting little stage 5 clinger that follows Fern around tbh.

honestly one of my fav things that isn’t ever talked about with Kusuo is that he is honestly when you actually examine him, a pretty normal teenager. He’s insecure, he cares a lot about his mom and is scared of making her mad, he gets invested in other peoples drama, he dislikes PE, he hates being spoiled for things, he has an embarrassing crush that his friends judge him for, he has an awkward relationship with his dad and fights with his brother, he wants to be protected.

Like underneath all the unfamiliar stuff, he is honestly Just Some Guy.

It's time to build a monument! Thankfully, we have a bunch of constructoids to do building and a bunch of lifter bots to carry bricks, logs, and raw steel around. This should be a breeze!

While Kwahu works on his pet project, Alistair's been busy at the fabrication bench. The Jones boys have some new bionics, and some very spiffy new prestige helmets to show for it! Unfortunately, Alistair's worn his reactor down with all his diligent work, so it's time for a replacement.

Unlike installing a bionic on a person, to replace an android's reactor, you have to first remove the old, spent one. You can't just queue "install reactor" and let the pawns figure it out.

I was very worried about ripping out what is, essentially, Alistair's heart, but Mechi is good at what he does and now Alistair's back to working at the fabrication bench to make prestige recon armour for our two knights.

They're gonna be ✨FANCY✨

The lack of an array headset does mean their bandwidth is lowered back down to only eight, but that's all they're using at the moment so we're all good.

We also installed bionic spines on both of our mechanitors, so now they can go about their important knightly business without worrying about back pain. It's the perfect transhumanist solution!

Kwahu is giving his bionic spine a rigorous field test by performing manual labour in the desert heat, and he seems to be faring well enough. We can declare this fourth bionic a roaring success!
