I know I do not often express anything in relation to other media whatsoever and I hardly ever have headcannons for any media despite having a bunch of obsessions
But
Today
I must call on the detco fandom to say
Shinichi and Heiji are such an autism + adhd duo to me

Autistic Anime Boys Prelims - Propaganda Division - Group 6
Tumblr media
Propaganda:
Kiriwo -
"Seems innocent at first and he's just a guy with a special interest in magic items, but watch out."
Arjuna -
"MASKING KING!!!!!! ok joke aside one of his biggest things is that he's super scared that if anyone gets too close to him they'll notice he's not perfect/has a 'secret darkness' (that's literally just a guy) and overall a lot of his storyline is a strong parallel for being neurodivergent and becoming more comfortable with accepting it. he's also super strict and hard on himself for any sort of failure that isn't in line with what's socially appropriate but at the same time he doesn't always have a good grasp on what that is which is how you get stuff like him blowing up a forest to try and impress someone. it also runs in his family bc his brother is autistic as hell too."
Sherlock -
"God, where do I start? I mean what Holmes adaptation, even if he's not the main character, would this be if he were not autistic coded? And our combo of autism and ADHD is absolute perfection, all tied up with a pretty, excitable face. Hit him with the crime hyperfixation and do not make him wear socks."
Apollo -
"Not canonically autistic but he has ZERO volume control plus he scripts/repeats stuff (“I’M FINE!!!”), sometimes mimics other people’s speech patterns (like replying “ja” to Klavier), sensitive to loud noises (stayed backstage at a concert cuz it was too loud) and bright lights (complained about the stage lights being too bright at the same concert + screamed when opening the hatch to the bright stage at magic show), and has been really into space since he was a kid, which could definitely be a hyperfixation (not to mention how he read every single one of Phoenix’s old case files back when he admired him). Plus he’s a little TOO normal, to the point where it circles back around to making him the odd one out, which is absolutely what masking feels like for me. Even when he tries to be fun and weird he gets strange looks/made fun of for not being weird in the right way. The list of autism symptoms is just a checklist for him at this point."
Heiji -
"90% of the cast in detective conan is autistic but heiji is the most autistic of them all."
Urara -
"Another alien who is so excited to dance with everyone that he does not understand that his intended purpose of inviting people to dance via water communication is brainwashing them into dancing and is causing extreme chaos. He nearly causes an apocalypse by being so excited about dancing but he apologizes and tries to make friends with Yuki at the end of the story. He is extremely soft spoken and try, finding it difficult to begin conversations and fidgeting."
Shu -
"speaking specifically about the first season but he was the "explains everything so the audience knows whats happening" guy. he was pretty antisocial (not sure if thats just how he was or if he lived alone [which was fucked up cause he was 11]) . im trying to think of more but my brain goes hghghhhggggh im just a big fan of him."
Vash -
"ain’t no way i’m the only one who’s submitted him. go look at the gif of him crawling in the dirt like a bug while he dodges bullets and get back to me."
Hyakkimaru -
"Due to a terrible curse he has lived his whole life without several body parts including his eyes and ears. Because of this he is often overstimulated and awkward in new situations (when he doesn't do what he does best, killing monsters and samurai with his sword arms) He can't say or express much, and often comes off as strange and creepy, but he is actually a cutie patootie full of emotions, has a big heart, a keen brain, endless inner strength and loves the people close to him! This adorable, cursed, demon slaying boy deserves everything!"
Kei -
"He has the tbh face. Also he canonically has sensory issues and gets sensory overload. He constantly wears earbuds. He has an extremely rigid sense of morality and considers himself a savior figure. He has a hard time relating to other people and is a bit awkward in his interactions."

There's a lot of talk about Heiji's tendency to drop everything and go to Tokyo to help—or even just to see!—Shinichi, and rightfully so. It's something Heiji unabashedly admits to (Episode 278, Magic File 5)...
Tumblr media
Heiji: If any other suspicious persons show up, just call me! I'll run right over!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ran: Hattori-kun saw that incident on the news and rushed over because he was worried about you, Conan-kun. Heiji: Grabbed the first bullet train in the mornin'!
And I still can hardly believe that Heiji's canon, actual, real-deal reaction to a request to put his life on the line and impersonate Shinichi... is an immediate "OK" composed out of heart emojis (Episode 345).
Tumblr media
Seriously. That happened. Heiji couldn't not help.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heiji (internally): I had no choice. After all, Kudo e-mailed me asking me to do this.
But in Shinichi's first appearance since being poisoned (Episode 49), after seemingly refusing to show his face to Ran or Inspector Megure or anyone else in town for who knows how long, he unabashedly claims that he dropped everything to meet Heiji. He smiles about it!
And of course it's a lie, but there's a smidgen of truth to it, too. Conan did accompany Heiji, despite feeling terribly sick and harboring zero interest in the (apparently) non-murderous case, because he was intrigued. Because he was impressed with what Heiji had uncovered about him already and was nervous about what else his so-called "rival" could reveal.
Tumblr media
Conan (internally): I don't wanna go, but there's no telling what this guy might say!
But even without that context, Shinichi's easy, immediate cover story gets to me. He really, truly, unhesitatingly asserts that meeting Heiji was important enough to jump right on a train to get there.
It reminds me of Shinichi's excitement when he first learns of Heiji (File 520), and his grin when he thinks of meeting Heiji for real one day (File 522):
Tumblr media
Shinichi: Really? Then he's just like me!
Tumblr media
Shinichi (internally): We'll meet each other again... on that mysterious stage...
I think I could totally buy that Shinichi actually would have done exactly what he claims in the clip. He is interested in other detectives like himself, and with the pain of the antidote wearing off in Episode 49, that smile's gotta be genuine.
Finally, while it's Not That Deep, there's maybe something to be said about how Heiji is symbolically the key to Shinichi's true self, since it's Heiji's alcohol that transforms Conan back into Shinichi. With this clip, Shinichi underlines the same idea. It's Heiji who brought him back after so long. It's because of Heiji Hattori that Shinichi Kudo makes his first appearance after vanishing.
And I love how forthright Shinichi is about it.

Ok so here’s the other Detective Conan oneshot I wrote at 14
Tumblr media
Englisch translation:
The man aims and shoots. Everything that can be be heard are the loud screams as she slowly falls to the ground. „KAZUHA!“ Heiji runs torwards his friend and scoops her up in his arms while Ran kicks the weapon out of the man’s hand and punches him so hard he faints, afterwards she runs to the two, Conan just stands there watching as his best friend holds her body in his arms. „KAZUHA. Hey Kazuha talk to me. For gods sake…talk to me“ Suddenly Conan shows up at Heijis side. „Hattori. Maybe you should let her go.“ „Dammit, no! She’s not dead. She can’t be dead. Such a moron like her could never just die like that without saying something. This…this just can’t be happening!“ „But Heiji…“ says Ran. „NO! Stop trying to convince me of something that’s not true!“ „Heiji we don’t mean it like that, but…“ Conan interjects. „But what? What do you want to say?“ Suddenly they hear a slight snicker and Kazuha begins to stir. „Kazuha?“ Then she sits up and begins to laugh hysterically. „Haha…you really thought I was dead…haha!“ „That isn’t funny at all!“ „Oh but I do find it very funny! On another note what did you mean when you said Moron?“ „Exactly what you think I meant!“ And they’re at it, arguing again meanwhile Ran and Conan just shake their heads.
The funny thing is I remember writing this in Physics class the day after I watched the Naniwa serial killer case where Heiji got shot. I really liked the end in the ambulance and was thinking something along the lines „an eye for an eye. If Heiji gets to scare Kazuha why not let her scare him as retaliation!“ And that’s how this oneshot was born lol

Honestly I'd say that the Detective Conan plot actually starts properly picking up around ch176, with the arrival of Haibara.
At this point, we have most of the major players of the game introduced, or on their way.
Conan, Ran, and Kogoro are not just set up, but Megure is starting to go "oh no, not you again" at crime scenes.
Shinichi has experienced the Moonlight Sonata case, kickstarting a lot of his character development regarding "not using deduction to hound a criminal to death" which will carry on into the rest of the series.
The Detective Boys are formed, with Kobayashi-sensei having had her introduction.
His parents have tested him, and then made further appearances since then, proving that they are aware of his situation and that they're both supportive and intelligent people with outstanding skills in disguise and deduction respectively.
Shinichi has met, been found out by, and been forcibly befriended by Hattori. He'll shortly bring everyone to Osaka and they'll meet Kazuha.
Kaitou Kid has made his first heist on the Suzuki family/corporation, and met Conan. Kaito's very first pages "onscreen" showcase how similar he looks to Kudo Shinichi, foreshadowing the current reveal that they're related.
Some of Shinichi and Ran's classmates have been explored by now, with not just Sonoko but also Shinichi's old football team, giving him more of a grounding in the setting.
Haibara has appeared, sparking and signalling that the Black Organisation plot can start moving, rather than Shinichi waiting for clues to just randomly come to him. We're told about how someone from a case Shinichi had almost forgotten about had been her sister.
The FBI and other official organisations haven't appeared yet, but that's only a matter of time; the pieces are set up for them as well as Vermouth to start appearing and make their mark on the plot, as they'll do so a few volumes on.
And this is by chapter 176! BSD hasn't even reached that many chapters yet! Other series are way further into their plot than this!
Which is just me saying... he goes slow, ok. Gosho has always gone slow.

Hello! 💕
I have 6 questions for you:
Q1: Is your request box is still opening for Detective Conan x female reader headcanons and oneshots?
Q2: Do you have request rules for x female reader headcanons and oneshots?
Q3: Can you accept prompts and songfics for request too?
Q4: Can you accept yandere moments for request too?
Q5: Can you accept suggestive moments like neck kisses, makeouts and hickey for request? I am sorry for asking an awkward question. 😅
Q5: What are your favorite Detective Conan characters you admire? Mine are Shinichi Kudo, Kaito Kuroba/Kaito Kid and Heiji Hattori!!!! 🥰💕
Q6: What are your least favorite Detective Conan characters you hate?
Hi there!! :D
Ok here's my answers on your questions:
#1: Yes my request box is open for Detective Conan x female reader headcanons and oneshots(and also for other fandoms that I listed in my masterlist)
#2: I don't really have any rules besides the obvious stuff like no nsfw for minors and other things. Though the one thing I can't do is pregnancy/family scenario since I'm a bit uncomfortable abt it, sorry TvT
#3: For prompts, I can do that. But if it's songfics, I can't really do it since I never wrote those :')
#4: I never wrote a yandere fic, but I have been planning on writing those so sure ^^ although it may be dry as hell since I never wrote it qwq
#5: I can do some suggestive moments like the things you mention, though same as the yandere fic, I never written one so it may be awkward af :') And dw it's fine! It's not really an awkward question to ask :D
#5(2): My favorites are the same as yours! If it's female characters, my fav is Kazuha bcs her constant bickering with Heiji is just too funny to miss out XD Though If you're talking on who I'm simping for, it's mostly Kaito, Shinichi and Heiji -///-
#6: This took me a while to think on bcs I don't really hate any of the characters there, but if you're talking abt the ones besides the villains like the Black organization, then it's usually Genta or Sonoko. I don't hate them all the time, I just find them annoying sometimes :')
Glad to know there's a fellow Detective Conan fan out there XD it was rather lonely/quiet in this fandom so I was serious when I tell you I'm ecstatic to know someone knows abt it lmao
Here's some green tea for u :D

Yay! Tell me more about shrunken!Kazuha please 😁
Ok so this one is really old but the rough plot was that Kazuha gets shrunk on her way home from practice and when she wakes up in the allyway, decides to go to Heiji. Once she gets to the forest around his house, she ends up hesitating because she doesn't know how to explain her situation but Conan, who was visiting with Ran, ends up finding her in the trees and helping her. A quick snipbit:
She wasn't planning this. Not at all. Her hand crept up the side of her head to touch the large bump that had formed there.
“Ouch!"
She was never planning to go back to her days in grade school. Yet, here she is. Her physical body somehow shrunk to the size of an 8 year old while her mind remained that of a 17 year old.
"Heiji-niichan? Where are you going?"
She heard footsteps along with the familiar voices.
"Crap." She whispered softy so as to not draw anymore attention to her location. She hid behind a tree and tucked herself in the bushes that surrounded her, thankful for her small stature as she was thin and small enough to not be seen through the bushes.
"I thought I heard somethin’."
"Must've been some a random noise, Hattori-kun."
"Let's go back, Heiji-niichan."
She heard the footsteps stray off the path and vanish as they got further and further from her ear. Soon enough, she thought it to be safe to leave and began to quietly sneak through the bushes. Through the forest, more footsteps could be heard coming closer and, at hearing them, she quickly ducked back to the cover of the tall oak, cursing as she accidentally stepped on twigs and leaves, crushing them loudly as she rushed.
"Come out, Kazuha."
"Conan-kun?"
She moved out of hiding to stare at the boy, her shirt gently brushing her knees as it swayed, oversized, on her small figure. His face was too mature for his young body.
"What happened to you?"
"Nothin’ important, ya’ shouldn't worry about it. Yer just a kid after all.”
"I'm not as young as you think."
She bit her lip, his eyes were too knowing to be that of an innocent child. And judging by his recognition and lack of surprise of her new figure, she could assume that he had more of an idea of what happened to her then she did herself.
"Do you remember any "men in black"?" He asked. The look on her face clarified that she knew something about them at least. The only question now is why they made her a target.
"Yeah. Two of em’. They knocked me for a loop when I was walkin’ home. I had taken a shortcut home after aikido practice."
"And where was this shortcut exactly?"
"Through an alleyway a block from the school."
"And you trusted it?" He asked with half-moon eyes.
Her glare was deadlier than she had meant it to be.
"Yeah, I'm a aikido champ if you forgot. I can handle myself. I just wasn't expectin’ some guy with a gun and a large pipe to suddenly attack me. That’s the type of trouble that only Heiji gets into.”
"Did they say anything?"
"Just something about "testin’ a new prototype", why?"
“What about Hattori?”
“Hmm? Heiji?”
“Did they say anything about him?”
“No. Not really. They just mentioned havin’ me on their radar for a while. Didn’t give a reason though.”
He expression turned darker and he muttered something under his breath.
"Kazuha, I need you to follow me to Tokyo. I'll work something out to sneak you and me there without Ran or Hattori questioning anything,” he sighed. “Haibara’s going to kill me.”
"That little girl? What’s she got to do with this?”
"Can’t you already tell?"

Detective Conan_#Fanfic
Detective Conan Fanfic
In Agasa’s house with Conan.
Conan: Good morning Hakase…(Yawn)
Agasa: Oh! Shinichi, good morning.
Conan: Where’s Haibara?
Agasa: Ai-kun left early, she said she was going to buy the new release purse.
Conan: Oh, is that so.
Conan’s phone rang.
Conan: Who is this, early in the morning (With an irritating face)
Heiji: Kudo! I’ve got a lead on them.
Conan:???
Heiji: That Black Organization of your’s
Haibara arrived and coincidentally heard Heiji’s call.
Conan: WHAT? Are you sure?
Heiji: What do you think of me? Boke!
Conan: Baro! Then?
Heiji: Well, yesterday, I received a call from my client. Name: Sasaki Miyamoto, an employee from a big company in Beika Street. At first it was weird, because he lives near that old man’s agency. Instead of calling me, why did he not just go in there? That’s what I thought at first. Maybe I was better after all (With a smirk)
Conan: Baro! Maybe he wasn’t able to meet Ojisan at that time, though It couldn’t be helped, since that Oyaji always went to bars or pachinko.
Heiji: The problem is that every night there is someone always watching Sasaki-san, like a stalker. And the most interesting thing he said is that they wore black clothes from head to toe. Kudo isn’t I lucky? You see, we already made a pla—
Haibara suddenly butt in and warns him.
Haibara: That’s dangerous! Stop that! If you don’t want your—
Heiji: Sorry’, we’re already in the middle of the plan, so don’t worry. Kudo, I will contact you later, If I’ve got some new information.
Conan: Hey! Hattori!
The call ends
Conan: Hattori, that bastard!
Haibara: It’s not too late, Hakase.
Conan: Let’s go.
Conan: (Hattori)
Heiji in a warehouse, following Sasaki inside. Suddenly a black Porsche arrived and two men got out of the car.  On the right side, a tall man with a slim build, pale skin, ruthless black eye, with long silver hair. On the left side, a muscular man with a wide chin and looks like a mafia. And inside the car, a fairly tall woman with a slender build, pale skin, light blue eyes and long silver hair. With a convoy sport car with white stripe design.
Heiji:: (This is bad ) (Hiding behind a box in a dark corner of the warehouse)
Outside Agasa’s house
Genta: Why is no one answering?
Mitsuhiko: This is weird.
Ayumi: Maybe they are in Ran-onee san's house.
Genta: Detective Boys, let’s go!
In the warehouse
Sasaki: I did my job, please…let me and my family go…
Gin: Where is the rat?
Sasaki: He is hiding in this warehouse…
Vodka: Aniki…
Gin: You are good to go. (Giving a go sign to the people who are inside the sports car)
Chianti: Ok (With a smirk in the face)
Sasaki was shot in the head
Chianti: That was easy
Korn: Next time, I want the head. (Mumbling)
Heiji quivers, and sweats a lot after hearing that it was all a trap.
Gin: Now, let the rat hunt begin (Reloading his gun)
Chianti and Korn positioned themselves in the entrance, waiting for the rat (Heiji) to come out. Gin and Vodka, surrounded every corner with a gun.
Heiji: (This is bad)
When Heiji had nowhere to escape, he threw a coin in the opposite direction and started running towards a small light in the corner for an escape. However, Gin notices that It was all a trap, to divert their attention, and sees the shadow of Heiji escaping.
After tracking, Heiji’s phone, Agasa, Conan, and Haibara, heard the gunshots in a warehouse.
Conan: Hakase, go in the opposite direction and park your car inside a garage or building. Hurry!
Haibara: Where are you going? It's dangerous! Kudo-kun!
Conan runs towards the warehouse and Agasa flees in the opposite direction to hide, with Haibara worried.
Heiji was able to escape, however, behind the warehouse was only a port awaiting him. Nowhere to hide and run, Heiji holds the charm Kazuha gave him firmly.
Gin: You have nowhere to escape (With a smirk)
Vermouth was surprised after she saw Conan’s friend Hattori, the son of the chief Osaka Department Hattori Heizo. Vermouth interrupted them.
Vermouth: Wait, Gi–-
Without any further ado, Gin shot Heiji in the right arm, where Heiji was holding the phone with the charm. Heiji groaned due to the pain.
Gin: What’s the problem Vermouth?
Vermouth: Gin!! (With a deadly look in her face)
Gin: Don’t tell me, this rat is also your favorite?
Chianti: You b****, I was right after all! Gin, this woman was behind all of this! (With a loud voice)
Gin: Wait, Chianti. (With a doubtful and deadly look) What’s your relationship with this boy? Tell me, Vermouth. (Pointing his gun to Heiji’s head)
As when the loud gunshots stopped, Conan was feeling uneasy. He saw Heiji groaning due to the shot in his right arm. When Conan was running towards Heiji, he heard a familiar voice coming out from the same direction.
Vermouth: He is the friend of my friend, let’s say, closest friend of my friend. (Worried)
Gin: Friend, huh… (Gin smirked)
Gin orders Vodka to get his two favorite guns in the trunk.
Vermouth: What are you doing? Gin!?
Gin: Vermouth I have a lot of sources. One of them is in Osaka working in the police department. I heard that one of the chief police officer’s son is fond of investigating people who wore black clothes.
Vermouth: So, don’t tell me…
Gin: Yes, this is all my plan, in order to catch the rat, or let’s say the fox detective who is always trying to investigate us.
Vermouth: Fox detective?
Gin: So don’t know that this boy tried to get Vodka’s fingerprint through putting a tape in the cd. The software program Itakura made. And also, the one who shot me with a tranquilizer when I was trying to kill Sherry.
Vodka: Is that true aniki? Impossible!
Gin: Don’t worry. Now tell me where the traitor “Sherry”? (Pointing his favorite gun in Heiji’s head)
Heiji: I don’t know what you are talking about.. (With a smirk)
Gin’s face darken. Before Gin shoots, Conan without any hesitation inflates a ball and kick it towards Gin’s gun. They were all stunned that a ball came out from nowhere. Conan came out (glowing glasses)
Conan: I am Edogawa Conan, a detective.
Vermouth was dumbfounded
Heiji was shocked after he saw Conan come out boldly.
Gin notices that this kid always appears anywhere when there is a case, especially in that time when they tried to kill Detective Mouri.
Heiji: Boke! What are you doing here!? ( In pain) Don’t mind him, he is from our neighborhood always following me, playing detective.
Chianti: Hey! Kid go to back to your mama and papa if you don’t wan–
Gin: Chianti (With a cold and deadly look)
Chianti stopped after seeing Gin’s look.
Gin: Brat, what relationship do you have with this boy? (With a doubtful look and cold look)
Heiji: Stop it! Go back you idio–
Conan: Stop it Hattori…They already got you.
Gin: Vodka, silenced him.
Vodka: Ok aniki
Conan: Wait! Gin…
Gin was surprised
Gin: How did you know my code name?
Conan: As a detective it is easy, anyway, I will tell you an interesting story, however, let my friend go.
Gin: (Laughed after hearing what Conan said) Deal
Gin ordered Vodka to let Heiji go. Heiji hesitated, however, Chianti was aiming at Heiji, so Heiji ran while evading every bullet as possible. Fornutaley Heiji was able to escape and Agasa and Haibara tended to him immediately.
Haibara: Where is Kudo? (Worried)
However, Heiji didn’t not respond, knowing that Haibara would find any means to protect Kudo from harm.
Heiji: Gin, Vodka, Vermouth, Chianti, and Korn are there. (In pain)
Haibara trembles after hearing their names.
In Detective Mouri Agency
Ran: Oh! Mina, why are you all here?
Ayumi: Is Conan and Haibara here?
Mitsuhiko: We chime Professor Hakase’s gate but no one responds.
Ran: That’s weird
Genta: Maybe they were really involved in a case again! (Loud voice)
Koguro: (Watching Okino Yuko-chan’s drama while drinking a beer)
Ran: Otousan! Did you know where Conan went earlier?
Koguro: Leave that brat alone, I’m busy right now (Crying while mumbling Okino Yuko’s name)
Ayumi: It's okay Ran-oneesan, we will wait for Conan here.
Ran: Okay, I will make some juice.
In the warehouse
Gin: Now, tell me this interesting of your’s
Conan: “Back in the Tropical Land, a highschool teenager boy was with his girlfriend, the boy was once a popular detective high school student who always solved any difficult cases. However, on that day, the boy heard a dangerous deal. Without knowing, one of the partners was behind him, struck him in the head, and he fell unconscious. After knowing his identity, the one who struck him used a newly invented drug and they forced him to drink it, since the newly invented drug was defective, so they thought he died. But unfortunately, the once popular detective high school student turned into a small boy and unable to solved cases without raising anyone’s suspicious”
They were dumbfounded, especially Gin and Vodka.
Vodka: Impossible! Aniki! This boy…
Gin: I know what you are saying Vodka, calm down. (Gin’s eyes widen in excitement knowing that everything was all due to this boy)
Chianti and Korn: Huh? Is this some kind of fairy tale story? Vermout–
After seeing Vermouth’s twisted expression, Chianti become suspicious.
Vermouth: (Silver bullet-kun) Why?..
Conan: Vermouth, after all only one truth prevails (With a sad smile)
Gin laughs and grabs Conan
Gin: Long time no see, Kudo Shinichi
Conan: Its been a while Gin..
Vodka: Yes! It really was him! That detective boy, I couldn’t believe it..
Gin drags Conan ruthlessly, unexpectedly Vermouth, pulls out a gun and point it to Chianti, who is near the porsche..
Chianti: What are you doi–
Vermouth: Quiet Chianti (With a cold and deadly look) Hand me the boy, Gin.
Gin: Why would I? (With a smirk) Gin shoots Chianti unables Vermouth to use Chianti as a shield.
Gin handed Conan to Vodka and ordered him to get the machine gun.
Vermouth was at a disadvantage knowing how dangerous Gin is.
Inside the beetle with Agasa, Haibara, and Heiji.
Haibara: Let me go!
Heiji: You will only be a burden to Kudo…
Agasa: I will call a police (Worried)
In metropolitan police department
Takagi: This is the Police Department, what can I do–
Agasa: Is this Takagi-kun? (Shaky voice)
Takagi: Oh! Agasa-san, what can I help you–
Haibara suddenly grab the phone
Haibara: Save Edogawa-kun!!.. Edogawa is in danger!! (Panic voice)
Takagi: Please calm down–
Haibara: Edogawa is going to be killed, and you are saying calm down–
Heiji suddenly grabbed the phone this time..
Heiji: Please… (Groaning in pain)
Takagi: Ok, tell me your location…
In the warehouse
Chianti: F***!!, Gin!!! (In pain after being shot in the leg)
In Detective Mouri Agency with the detective boys
Mitsuhiko: They are late
Ayumi: Where could they be
Loud sirens pass by
Genta: There were a lot of patrol cars passing by, I think there is something happening near…
Ran: Why do I feel uneasy… (While reading a book inside the room)
In the warehouse
Vermouth drags Chianti inside the car (porsche) as a hostage and shield. Vodka fires the machine gun, but Vermouth was able to evade it, using Porsche's side door. Vermouth drove the Porsche and accelerated the car  towards Vodka where Conan was. Vodka was hit by a car, but when Vermouth nearly got Conan, Gin was already pointing a gun at her.
Gin: Another traitor..
Vermouth was able to get Conan, however, Vermouth wasn’t able to evade this time. Conan protected Vermouth and was shot two bullets in the body, after that Vermouth escaped using the porsche.
Inside the beetle with Agasa, Haibara, and Heiji
Haibara: Hakase, can you get the medical kit in the back? (Panic voice)
Agase: Ai-kun aren’t you good at treating wounds? (Doubt)
Haibara: Hakase, please… ( Agasa went to the back to get the medicine)
Haibara suddenly steps on the gas and accelerates towards the warehouse where Conan is. They were startled upon seeing Haibara drive the beetle suddenly. When they arrived, only traces of blood were found.
Haibara: Kudo? Kudo-kun?
Heiji: Kudo? Where are you? We already called the police…
Agasa: Shinichi? This is shinichi’s bow neck tie voice changer…(Shakey and unclear voice)
Haibara cried, when the police came, they were too late, there was no one in the warehouse.
Vermouth: Silver bullet! Don’t die! (While driving)
Conan was in pain while covering his wound, but the wound was so severe, that even Vermouth was in panic.
Chianti: Hahahah, I don’t know what’s happening, but that serves you right! (In a loud voice)
Vermouth was furious, so she decided to toss Chianti in the middle of the busy highway, hoping she would be run over by a truck.
Vermouth: Don’t worry I will find a hospital…
Without knowing what would happen, Vermouth rushed to the nearest hospital to treat Conan immediately. When Vermouth came out of the car, while holding Conan she was shot by Korn in the stomach unexpectedly. Vermouth put Conan back inside the car, and they escaped quickly. But Gin was driving the sports car, and Korn was the one shooting, so Vermouth left no choice but to go in a traffic jam. Though they were able to get away from them, Conan’s consciousness is slowly fading, while waiting for the green light.
Vermouth: Silver bullet! (Trying to do anything to cover Conan’s wound)
Vermouth cries, while watching Conan slowly die.
When the green light was up, Vermouth accelerated but Korn shot the tires, unable for the Porsche to run. Korn tried to shoot Conan at any means, but Vermouth protected Conan, Gin was engraged, after knowing that Vermouth protected the boy. So Gin decided to go himself rather than waiting for Korn to shoot the boy.
People nearby were stunned, and panicked when they heard the gunshots. Coincidentally Nichirin TV crew was near the site broadcasting live for the company’s opening celebration. And there was Yumi, the patrol car police, watching the flow of traffic. When Nichirin TV crew and the police officer notices that the porsche is in the middle of the traffic, and there is something wrong with it.  They immediately take precautions and check the car, making Gin and Korn pull back, because they don’t want their existence to be known.
In Detective Mouri’s Agency
(Knock Knock)
Sonoko: Ran!!
Ran: Oh! Sonoko! What brings you here?
Sonoko: Well, you see this kind Sonoko-sama has come to tell you that, I’ve got a reservation for a buffet! The restaurant is near here, and It should be family, but my family is busy, so I decided to invite you and your Dad.
Detective Boys: How about us? (Appeared suddenly)
Sonoko: No problem! Your Sonoko-sama is kind and pretty!
In the traffic site
Nichirin TV crew: What’s with that car?
Nichirin TV crew (1): Filmed it, maybe it will become big news for today!
President of the company: Hey! Wait!
People: What’s with that car…
Yumi: Wait! Don’t go near (While making her way through the crowd)
Yumi examined the car, when she saw what’s inside, her eyes widened in disbelief and terror. She saw a blonde bathe in her own blood while embracing a boy.
Yumi: Hey! Hey!... Help me open the door! (Asking the people near the site)
Nichirin TV crew: This is horrible…hey! Are you alright? (When they tried to move her arm)
Yumi: AHHH!...Co-conan-kun!!!... He is wounded…Call an ambulance!! HURRY!!!
Near the sight with ran and others
Ayumi: What’s happening there?
Mitsuhiko: There’s a lot of people gathering there..
Genta: Maybe they sell unagi eel!
Koguro: Let’s have a look
Ran: (I have a bad feeling about this…)
Sonoko: Let’s go Ran!
Koguro: I am Mouri Koguro, what’s happening there? (Asking people near the sight)
Person (1): A-a woman and a kid are severely wounded…
Person passing by: I think they are dead in that state…
In the crowd, the NIchirin TV crew was broadcasting the accident live…
Nichirin TV reporter: Today, 1:33 pm in the afternoon, an accident happened here. Beika street, fifth block, a blonde woman and a little boy is severely wounded with gunshots–
In the warehouse
Sato: Oh! Yumi! Wha—
Yumi: Sato!! Co-conan-kun is… (Crying and in panic)
Sato: What happened? Yumi!
Yumi: Conan-kun is dead!!...
Sato: Ha!? What are you saying?
Yumi: Sato!! Bring Megure here!! Location, Beika street, fifth block. HURRY!!!
Sato: Ok! Wait for us! Inspector Megure, there is an urgent matter, and Yumi wants us to go to Beika street, fifth block.
Haibara: What did she say? Tell me..
Sato: Something happened to Conan-kun… (Sad voice)
Haibara: Hakase!!!
In the site with Ran and others
Koguro: Make way for Detective Mouri Koguro! Now let me see…This car is in terrible condition, wait, this a machine gun, these scrapes and holes are caused by a machine gun..(WIth a dignified look in the face) Make way!..
Koguro: Where are the victims?...
Person: In here!...
Before Koguro could say another word, after seeing Conan bathe in Vermouth’s blood, his eyes widened in shock. He suddenly calls Conan’s name…
Koguro: Hey! Brat! Conan! Conan!!...Open your eyes! Conan!
Koguro saw the blood flowing non stop from Conan’s gunshot. After seeing Conan’s state, Koguro: Calls an ambulance!!! (Shouts loudly)
Koguro: Hey!... I said ambulance!!! (Shout angrily to all the people near the site)
Ran and Sonoko, and the Detective Boys were surprised upon hearing his shout angrily.
Ran: Hey!.. Dad, why are you shouting?
Koguro: Don’t come near here! Ran! (Terrified face)
Ayumi: AHHHH!!!...Co-conan-kun, conan-kun!!! (Cried out after seeing Conan’s state)
Mitsuhiko: A-ayumi, why are you cryin—...(Dumbfounded after seeing his friend)
Ran: What are you so worked up about?....
When Ran saw Conan, her world suddenly changed, her eyes suddenly filled with tears, making her tremble in fear, fear of not being able to see Conan again…After that she suddenly passed out.
The Police arrived and Haibara witnessed the scene of Conan dying
Haibara: Kudo!!!... Hey!!..Wake up!!...Kudo-kun!!...
After that, the ambulance arrived, they took Vermouth and Conan.
In the operation room
Some of them cried, and some were terrified. The police, the FBI and even the National Police Agency Security Bureau Security Planning are there.
Koguro: Why is this happening?...(Sad and angry look)
Ayumi: Why? Why Conan-kun?
Heiji and Haibara arrived
Heiji: Kudo-kun! It's all my fault..if only..I didn’t go..
Haibara: It's not your fault, it's all my fault..if only I didn’t betray the organization…if only I didn’t go to his house…if only I didn’t meddle with his life…(Crying)
Everyone was silent after hearing their words, except to those who already knew.
The operation continued, two bullets were obtained from Conan’s body.
But before they start their operation to get the bullets from vermouth’s body. Vermouth spoke in a low and dying voice.
Vermouth: “We… can be both… God and the …Devil. Since …we are trying… to raise the …dead against the …stream of time.” Sherry…(Unclear voice)
Vermouth puts his hand on the pocket, trying to get something out of her pocket.
Everyone was watching Vermouth handing out a pill.
Vermouth:”Sherry…save our silver bullet-kun…”
Sherry rushed inside the operating room, and snatched the pill without any hesitation.
Instead of stopping Haibara, all they do is to watch what is happening.
Haibara: Kudo-kun! Drink this!
Instead of hoping for Conan’s recovery, the results were unexpectedly opposite, Conan’s heartbeat became slow, and the force of his life stopped in a linear line.
Haibara’s expression twisted as if she's going to kill someone. She grabbed the scalpel and tried to stab Vermouth, however, the detective boys stopped him, preventing her from killing someone.
Haibara: You!...I will k*** you!...Wasn’t my parents not enough!?...wasn’t my sister not enough!?..
After that, she cried non stop like a first born baby.
After the operation, doctor’s declared death. They cry, and cry, until there is no last drop of tears coming out.
In a room where everyone gathered
After passing out, Ran went to the room where everyone was.
Ran: Dad, how’s Conan-kun?
Koguro: Ran…Don’t be sad…
Ran: No!...no!...(Crying)
Yusako and Yukiko arrived
Yukiko: Shin-chan!!!...Why did you leave us!?...Why did you leave Ran-chan!? (crying)
Yusako: Shinichi…You’ve done your best, son. (sorrowful look)
Heiji: Sorry, I wasn’t able to protect him…(feeling frustrated)
Haibara: Inspector Megure, please arrest me, I killed a lot of people in the past. They even called me “Ice Queen” for ruthlessly killing people. And earlier, I tried to kill Vermouth–
“Smack”
Haibara: What are you doing Hakase!?
Agasa: It's not your fault Ai-kun, did you forget that Shinichi welcomed you as part of our family.
Haibara: But!
Suddenly Ran interrupted.
Ran: Shinichi?...Where is Shinichi?...What happened to him?
Haibara: You still haven’t noticed!?...That boy is Shinichi!...
Everyone was shocked upon hearing what Haibara said.
Haibara: I said Edogawa-kun is Shinichi!
Mitsuhiko: What are you talking about, Haibara-san? Shinichi-san is grown-up…
While they were talking, Ran suddenly ran towards Conan’s body, and hugged him
Ran: So I was right…after all these years watching you if you were really Shinichi…I was stupid
Ran cried regretting not being able to notice such a thing.
Haibara: I’m from a deadly organization, I am their researcher and also a scientist. My job is to finish what my parents did in the past, that is creating a drug. Kudo-kun is one of them, instead of a test subject, Kudo was forced to drink the drug, not knowing the side effects. They thought he was dead, however, they didn’t know. He was watching all their movements from a far, like an innocent kid, acting like he knew nothing.
Heiji: In order to hide the fact that he is alive, only few knew his identity, and that was me, this girl, hakase, and his parents.
Sera and Eisuke: Did you forget me? (being confused)
Sera: I knew from the start that this boy is Shinichi Kudo, because I met him in the past…
Eisuke: Well, for me, it was when I was with Detective Mouri, I already knew and suspected him whenever he was around, and when I was trying to confess my feelings to Ran-san, I was stopped by Conan-kun, saying,”You can't .” That’s how I was able to figure out his Identity.
Koguro and Megure didn’t believe it at first, but just like Shinichi say, “Only one truth prevails”
Not long after, Subaru arrived with the FBI.
Subaru/Akai: He really kicks the bucket. Shiho, did Vermouth give you something? Like a pill.
Haibara: How did you know my name!?...
Subaru/Akai: I was the lover of your sister, so it's a long story. Did you give the pill to the boy? (With dark aura)
Haibara: Y-yes… (Doubtful look)
Subaru/Akai: (He suddenly takes off the voice changer) Oh! Sorry, this is my genuine voice. That was the boy’s order to mask my voice so that I can hide my identity too.
Amuro: Shuichi Akai!...Edogawa Conan, no, Shinichi Kudo’s private eye. I was wrong in infiltrating the Kudo’s residence, I did not know that my long lost enemy would be in that house, living as a graduate student.
Akai: Even I was impressed, all the events happening were all behind that boy’s plot.
Mitsuhiko: What are you saying?
Amuro: Conan-kun is your Shinichi-nisan and Ran’s boyfriend
Ayumi: So, Conan-kun was just lying all the time?
Haibara: It was to protect his friends, and family.
In an unexpected moment, while everyone was busy, Conan was brought back to life. Conan saw Ran beside him crying while sleeping.
Conan: Sorry Ran, and thank you for waiting
Conan went to the room where everyone was, and they didn’t believe it. The boy who died, entered the room, bewildered.
Conan: What’s with that look? Did you all see a ghost?
Everyone was happy and relieved that Conan is still alive.
Conan: Hehe, I am done for especially Ran. >.<’
Sorry I’m not really good in English

"Oh, will you take the stupid mask off already? I know it's you, Shinichi." Heiji kept his grip around shinichi's gloved hand firm. He was not letting go. There was no escaping this. No lying his way out. Shinichi knew that. He wasn't stupid. He saw the look in Heiji's eye and he knew that the other man wasn't about to give up.
Still, Shinichi had to try.
Shinichi cleared his throat and spoke in a deeper tone, trying to hide. "I... I have no idea what you're talking about, Citizen! I'm afraid we've never met and--"
"Talking in a slightly lower voice now isn't going to change the fact that it's you under there. Give me some credit. Don't you think I'd know your voice? Of all people?"
Shinichi cursed under his breath. "Damn it." He reached up with his free hand and pulled the spandex off, allowing himself to breath freely for the first time. "You caught me, ok?"
Heiji slowly, eyes wide. Obviously he had known--he was the one who told Shinichi to take off the damn mask to begin with. But somehow seeing it with his own eyes solidified it all in a way he hadn't been expecting.
Shinichi looked away, eyes downcast as he trembled slightly. "Say something."
"I... holy shit." Heiji stepped forward, hand outstretched, but he didn't grab anything. His fingers just lingered there.
Shinichi gave him a deadpan expression. That wasn't exactly what Shinichi had been expecting. "Something else, Hattori."
Heiji looked up, eyes just about watering. "Why didn't you tell me?" His voice cracked under the pressure of Shinichi's lies, and Shinichi flinched at the sound.
That was what he had been waiting for. The betrayal. The heartbreak. Shinichi knew that it had to happen eventually, but it didn't make it any easier. "I... I was trying to protect you..."
"Protect me? Protect me from what, Kudo? We're detectives for crying out..." Heiji bit his trembling lip and shook his head. "You catch enough bad guys during the day. Why do you have to do this at night too?"
Shinichi put his hands on Heiji's shoulders, heart breaking at the sight of the tears. "You have to understand, Hattori. These men... the people that I'm after--they're not like the criminals we put behind bars. They're sophisticated. Ruthless. Organized... they'll kill you and everyone around you just to make a point. I couldn't... I couldn't let that go on, but I couldn't let them hurt you either." Shinichi tried with all his might to put as much emotion into his words as he could. He had to reach Heiji... he had to let Heiji know he was serious, somehow.
Heiji pulled away. "I would have helped you! We're stronger together, we're a unit! I thought you... I thought you knew that..."
Shinichi cupped Heiji's face and lunched forward, pulling his partner in for a kiss. "I do. I do know that. I... I just got scared."
Heiji looked up at Shinichi with those big eyes that melted his heart every single time--eyes that were impossible to ignore. "Don't let it happen again, Kudo."
"Wouldn't dream of it."

Conan never told heiji that you love kazuha after the magician case (ok in the magician case i know that he just teased him said that he's a big stupid or whatever )but he never told something like:"hattori you should know what's she for u "or"you love her" even though that conan(shinchan) knows it right and before heiji also
I don't where the FUCK i find this kind f of questions😹🙂💔
Yeah, he just told him that he’s jealous and I think it’s because Shinchi wanted Heiji to find out and figure it out himself

Wow! Fascinating explanation and interpretation Goop! Heiji's father is a piece of shit, and I'm glad you (and from what I've seen, the fandom as well) agrees! And it's such an interesting thing to think about, like after passing the defensive and cocky Heiji, you see that he's quite sweet and caring! I can definitely see him being insecure, especially when he makes very obvious mistakes in his deductions sometimes and others will correct him ╮(─▽─)╭
Heiji absolutely has big shoes to fill, thank hell someone pointed that out!
Might I also add the fact that when Shinichi shows up in the episode, even while saying Harley is wrong, he doesn't belittle him or insult him at all? He tells him to go back and think on an important peace of evidence (the position of the key in the victims pocket) which causes Harley to correct and rethink his theory, and he sees that Kudo is not intimidating whatsoever.
I think it leaves a good impression on Harley for future events, leading up to their friendship now. Obviously they're still competitive with each other, but they're not rivals at all.
They're so sweet with each other and I adore their friendship so much (。-_-。) 💗
[In response to this post]
Thank you for reading. It's true that I'm not... exactly a fan of Heizo Hattori, and I think one of the (many) sad things about his parenting is that his choices help feed into exactly what he was probably trying to avoid. Heiji definitely has big shoes to fill, but he's also very privileged and undoubtedly gets opportunities and special treatment that others don't, purely because of his lineage. So, Heizo is harsh and cold as a father, hoping that fame won't get to Heiji's head... and yet, Heiji winds up acting like a cocky, arrogant kid anyway. As a cover, in my mind, for his overwhelming insecurity, which is, at least in part, because of that treatment. It's... really, really awful.
I'm not sure how to properly respond to the rest of this ask, so what follows is some overly long and rambling thoughts because goodness, I have so many of them. But the short of it is that I agree! Yes! I love Heiji and Shinichi's friendship, and I think they're a fantastic duo!
But if you are interested in reading on, do note there will be some pretty major spoilers for "The Desperate Revival" and Episode 345 here.
So, first, I gotta say: I don't remember being particularly fond of Heiji back when I was first introduced to this show. But in my recent go through, I skipped ahead to "The Desperate Revival" before rewatching everything else up until that point, and in revisiting it, I found myself so endlessly endeared to Heiji at the end of Episode 189. He's on the plane back to Osaka after visiting Conan in the hospital, and he's quiet, clearly deep in thought, very solemn and subdued and not at all his usual upbeat self, and he tells Kazuha, dead seriously, that he has something important to attend to that he can't not do:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heiji: I have something to do that day. I can't get out of it. It's important...
This moment genuinely had a profound effect on me. I was touched. While I can't say I agree with Heiji's plan to help Shinichi—please just let Ran know already!—the lengths he was willing to go to in order to bring his friend peace of mind gave me one of the most emotional reactions I've ever had to this series. I became very attached to the character.
Because, yeah, Heiji sure does come off arrogant and cocky at times, especially in his first appearance, where he acts as though he's better than everyone and that the only thing that matters is his own reputation. But he does deeply care for those around him; I mean, when he's asked to impersonate a guy who's supposed to be dead, and who will presumably get actually dead if found alive, his immediate response is to message an "OK" composed entirely out of heart emojis (Episode 345):
Tumblr media
And, well, as I already discussed, I view his overblown self-confidence as a front to cover up his self-doubt. He's not at all a one-dimensional jerk.
Anyway, I also felt a need to bring up 189 here because I think the episode ties well into the point about Shinichi not belittling Heiji, too. While I do see Heiji as insecure and unconfident in himself, I feel like Shinichi, even within minutes of being in the same room with the guy, recognizes Heiji's skill, and, yes, respects it. There's a reason that Conan follows along to investigate the Tsujimura case in Episode 48, despite feeling horribly sick, and that's to keep an eye on Heiji. He knows Heiji's a good detective, and he's afraid of what his so-called "rival" will discover about him.
Maybe I'm totally off the mark, but I get the sense that there's this... popular impression that Shinichi doesn't think too highly of Heiji, and their relationship is hugely lopsided in one direction. And, sure, Shinichi/Conan can certainly get irritated by Heiji's antics on occasion, but I think it's clear even in their first interactions that Shinichi respects Heiji and cares about him enough to sincerely want him to improve.
Because you're right. Shinichi critiques Heiji's deduction in Episode 49, but he's not insulting about it, and when Heiji—very gracefully, if I must say so!—admits that he misinterpreted the case, Shinichi doesn't just brush him off. The antidote is losing its effect, and he feels awful, but Shinichi still dedicates his time to Heiji and makes sure to leave him with a healthier mindset:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shinichi: There's no winning, losing, above, or below when it comes to logic... After all... there's always only one truth...
Which, yeah. You could argue that that's just the kind of person Shinichi is; he sees value in everyone and frequently moralizes to murderers, too. But those lectures tend to be a lot more... biting, and impersonal. An outsider's perspective. "You did wrong, and now you're going to be punished for it. There's no way that the person you're avenging would be happy with what you did."
His speech to Heiji, in contrast, comes off as very personal and emotional and passionate, and that's because it is. Detective work is what Shinichi does. It makes his heart sing. And I don't think he'd share his deep-seated insight about being a detective to someone he thought nothing of, who he figured sucked so much at the job that they should just quit.
Which encourages Heiji and means the world to him! Of course it does. He's—at least as I see it—so used to being considered inferior to others, to insults, put-downs. But Shinichi does no such thing. He trusts Heiji with his near-and-dear-to-his-heart beliefs about being a detective, and he trusts that Heiji will take those beliefs to his heart and be stronger for it.
Oooor, you know, I'm looking too deeply into it. But I will say this: I think Conan's behavior around Heiji in their second encounter (Episodes 57-58) is quite... telling. He immediately falls into deducting with Heiji as though he's in his own body, and he fears—rightfully—that Heiji is onto the truth:
Tumblr media
Conan: But it's all over if he catches me during my explanation.
Which. I mean. Even after dozens of cases with, like, Inspector Megure, Conan had never once feared that an actual police detective would figure him out. But in their second meeting, he's anxious around Heiji for that very reason. This isn't somebody he doesn't respect or value as a detective, at all.
And I started this whole tangent with Episode 189 because I think it's also clear that Shinichi trusts and respects Heiji a whole lot as a person, too, which is super obvious in 189 but also far before that. In as soon as their third encounter (Episodes 77-78), Conan opens up to Heiji about what happened in "The Piano Sonata 'Moonlight' Murders," Episode 11, where he couldn't stop a culprit from committing suicide, and I have to wonder if he'd ever revealed his guilt and regret concerning that case to anyone, prior to that moment.
I've written before about Heiji being the metaphorical key to Conan and Ai's true selves, arguing that it's Heiji's gift of alcohol in Episode 48 that helps the both of them reach an antidote that returns them to their own bodies. But maybe, in a sense, Heiji also serves to unlock some of the emotions that Shinichi keeps buried and hidden, too. It speaks absolute volumes to me that Dr. Agasa calls upon Heiji, out in Osaka, to comfort Shinichi in Episode 189, and the way that Conan does wind up spilling everything on his mind to Heiji is one of the most poignant moments of the series for me:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Conan: Hattori, listen... What would you do... What do you think is right?
I think it really speaks for itself. This is someone Shinichi values, respects, and trusts. Deeply. There's a remarkable openness and honesty in the vulnerability he displays here, in the softness of his voice, and from someone whose current situation necessitates near constant lying, that's huge.
In any case, I probably went way too far. But, yes! These two are so sweet, and I love that even when they do have disagreements, they're very healthy disagreements, with both respecting the other's insight. I think they both are so good for each other—that Heiji is someone Shinichi can trust and rely on when he's forced to keep so many secrets, and that Shinichi is someone who respects and values Heiji when he's so plagued by self-doubt.
(Also, as an aside... as much as I love FUNimation's English dub, I can't deny that it, well, kind of really borks up the end of Episode 49. And I feel like I should maybe be more miffed about it, but it just. Kinda cracks me up?
(Because, from what I understand, the dub tried to fix a continuity error; in the manga-equivalent of Episode 5, Conan learns Gin and Vodka's codenames, but the anime altered the story so much that this didn't happen. So, to fill in a gap (in Episode 54) that the original script didn't bother to, the dub has Harley of all people just. Ominously namedrop "Gin" and "Vodka" in the closing minutes of Episode 49. And it makes absolutely no sense and goodness. Jimmy is collapsing in front of him, and Harley's just going off about alcohol.
Tumblr media
Conan (internally): A while back, Harley told me that those [Gin and Vodka] were the code names of the guys in black who poisoned me and made me shrink.
(And, like, I mean. Why in the world would Harley know these codenames before Conan...?)

Detective Conan & Magic Kaito Characters: Kaito/Shinichi & Heiji Words: 1700 ish Required Fic: Tabula Rasa Extra: (1) (2) (3) (4)
“So... is it safe for me to say I’m your best neighbour too?”
“Yes, I will. Okay— I promise I’m gonna do it now.” Kaito closed the kitchen tap and clamped his phone in between his cheek and shoulder before heaving the filled watering-can out of the basin.
“Thank you, Kaito-botchama,” Jii said on the other line, but Kaito recognised more exasperation than satisfaction in Jii’s tone.
“I’mma hang up now, see you later.”
Cancelling the call, Kaito carried the watering-can in one hand and stumbled out to his backyard, and with his other hand, he went to his clock app and set three alarms.
Well, Kaito really couldn’t blame Jii for his worries and reminders these days, especially after Kaito recently got so distracted with his own things and nearly missed the hour of his heist; and Jii was almost desperate enough to act as Kaitou Kid then.
And this didn’t just happen once, but twice.
Standing in his backyard, Kaito glanced over to Shinichi’s house.
There were indeed loads of distractions lately.
Kaito ambled over his rose plantations and began watering them, as what he normally did.
“Wow, you have plants.”
Kaito blinked, glancing towards the fence that cut between his and Shinichi’s house.
Rather than the owner of the backyard, Kaito found the other dark-skinned detective — Hattori Heiji — the man that wasn’t easy to forget, given his reputation and the incident that nearly scarred Kaito for life.
Hattori was looking around Shinichi’s backyard in amazement, as if it was the first time he’d ever seen a patch of grass with two pots of plants... Or maybe it was the first time he’d seen Shinichi’s backyard, and knowing that Shinichi was plant-stupid in many sense, the two potted plants must be as impressive as running a country.
And speaking of first time, this was also the first time Kaito saw Shinichi ever had any visitor, well, save for Mouri Ran, the only unexpected and uninvited one.
All of the sudden, Hattori turned, spotting Kaito from where he was.
“Eh, your neighbour’s there too.” Hattori gave a wave. “Hello!”
Right there and then, Shinichi stepped out of his backyard door, his face looking all frozen and awkward.
This could be fun.
Kaito grinned and waved back; but of course this wouldn’t be enough to consider fun. Putting the watering-can down, he walked towards the fence, and with every step closer, Shinichi looked more and more disgruntled...
Eventually, Shinichi pinched the bridge of his nose, looking absolutely done with Kaito, or Hattori, or basically the entire situation.
“Nice to meet ya,” Hattori said as he put a hand over his chest. “I’m Kudo’s best friend and greatest rival.”
“And his name is also Hattori Heiji,” Shinichi mumbled before gesturing weakly over Kaito’s face. “And he’s my neighbour, Kuroba Kaito,” he said to Hattori.
Best friend and greatest rival... Kaito propped an arm over the fence. “Is it safe for me to say that I’m your best neighbour too?”
Shinichi couldn’t look any more resigned than this. He turned away, ignoring Kaito and attempted to tug Hattori out of his backyard. “Ok, anyway—”
“Wait a minute.” Hattori’s eyes narrowed at Kaito suspiciously, and Kaito felt a shiver ran down his spine. “Why does it look so familiar?” Hattori added.
Kaito blinked, barely holding back the urge to touch his face, and it took a much greater effort to stop himself from giving a nervous swallow too.
The fun sure lasted shorter than Kaito expected.
But it wasn't just Kaito that was stumped; Shinichi’s eyes looked like they were going to fall out any moment.
“What?” Shinichi spat.
Hattori scratched his chin, and he looked like a curious monkey when he did. “I’ve seen it before…”
Shinichi stepped a little closer to the fence, as if trying to block Hattori’s view of Kaito. “What are you talking about—”
“That shirt, ya.” Hattori pointed to Kaito’s chest. “I’ve seen you worn it before.”
Kaito looked down.
Crap. He certainly played himself this time; he hadn’t realized he was wearing Shinichi’s shirt today, the one Shinichi changed him out on the night he bled a mess out of his Kid’s clothes.
He nervously glanced up, coincidentally meeting Shinichi’s eyes before turning to Hattori, who still had the same squinty look on his face.
“Uh,” Shinichi began. “Yes, what a coincidence that my neighbour has the same shirt as me.”
This was the stupidest thing Kaito ever heard, but he doubt he could complain about the excuse when he didn’t have anything better to say. He tried to add a laugh, hoping it was enough to ease the situation.
But then again, Hattori wasn’t named the Detective of the West for nothing. “Right—”
“Anyway, there’s nothing in my backyard besides the two plants, so let’s head back in,” Shinichi said. Hattori was obviously not listening as he was still scrutinising Kaito and the shirt, but he didn’t have the opportunity to comment anything else as Shinichi successfully dragged him back into his house.
The backyard door closed.
A cooing sound made Kaito turned as he stared at his two doves—Touma and Curry—perched one the other end of the fence.
Kaito scorned. “You two... enjoying the show?”
Curry cooed.
Shaking his head, Kaito headed back to his watering-can.
——
After Kaito finished watering his plants, he walked out of his house, played with his own mailbox latch for a bit before heading to Shinichi’s one.
No bird poop stain.
No reason for Kaito to be here then.
But that wasn’t going to stop him from doing what he wanted. Kaito leaned against Shinichi’s mailbox, fingers drumming across the top. Shinichi’s car was still parked at the usual spot, but Kaito was sure he had heard Shinichi’s front door opened and closed beforehand. He stared down at the empty street, the only path Shinichi could take to go to the train station, or anywhere else; Kaito’s house was on the end of the block anyway—
And Kaito was right, as he spotted Shinichi’s returning with both of his hands tugged deep inside his pockets. Hattori was nowhere in sight.
Kaito placed his elbow on the mailbox and rested his chin against his palm. As Shinichi got much closer, and clearly already spotting him from the distance, Kaito spoke, “You haven’t answered my question.”
Shinichi looked confused, but he expressed that with a frown. “I don’t remember any question,” he replied, stopping his tracks before Kaito.
“So...” Kaito grinned. “Is it safe for me to say that I’m your best neighbour too?”
Shinichi rolled his eyes. “What do you think?”
“Yes?”
Kaito expected Shinichi to not reply, but he didn’t expect Shinichi to return to his house so soon when their conversation barely started. Kaito stared at Shinichi’s back and observed the slump on his shoulders, which Kaito didn’t notice earlier in the backyard when Shinichi was mostly tensed the entire time.
He wondered what Hattori was here for, and what they had talked about in the house. And if... it had anything to do with Mouri Ran.
Then, to Kaito’s surprise, Shinichi suddenly stopped and turned, looking at Kaito over his shoulder.
“What?” Shinichi muttered.
Does he have eyes on his back? “Nothing.” Kaito said.
Kaito knew what it was like to have his problems meddled with when he didn’t want it to be, and Kaito wasn’t going to be that hypocrite. Like what Shinichi said a long, long time ago, if he wanted the answers, he should wait when the time was right, or let the answer eventually come to him.
And if Shinichi didn’t want to talk, or do anything about it at the moment, there was no point for Kaito to force anything.
And maybe he didn’t have the rights to do it too.
Having nothing else to say, Kaito dusted his hands and returned to his own home.
“Wait.”
Kaito stopped.
“Uh.” Shinichi glanced at his mailbox.
“My doves didn’t shit on it this time,” Kaito said, which was true, yet deep down somewhere in his gut, he somehow wished they did.
“Yes, I can see that,” Shinichi answered back.
Kaito tilted his head. Shinichi sounded almost annoyed, but Kaito couldn’t pinpoint the main reason for it, just like the cause for the slump in his shoulder too. Kaito stayed silent and waited for Shinichi to continue.
“When are you planning to return my shirt?”
Huh. It’s for this? Kaito tugged onto the shirt, wondering. “Do you want me to take it off now?”
“Don’t.” Shinichi looked even more annoyed, but Kaito was much familiar and better with this annoyance; the one that seemed only Kaito was capable of making Shinichi feel.
Kaito grinned.
“Just give it back to me next time,” Shinichi added.
“Ok.” That is, if Kaito remembered and not wear it every time after he finished washing it. “Is there anything else?”
“No. I guess not.” Shinichi was about to turn again. “Bye.”
“Bye.”
“...Wait.”
Oh God, even Hakuba wasn’t this fickle-minded with his words, and that was one hell of a comparison that Shinichi was forcing Kaito to make. “What now?” he said as he swung his arms up in the air.
“Do you... I mean, are you free?”
“Certainly not”, Kaito was about to say, but he held back his tongue and tried to ignore Jii’s reminder and chiding words echoing in his head. Rather than a yes or no, he said, “Why?”
“By any chance are you cooking later, like fried rice?” Shinichi looked awkward, and Kaito almost saw some resemblance of that awkwardness he saw in Mouri Ran that day. “Can I pay for you to cook an extra plate for me?”
Pay? Kaito wanted to shake his head, to mock, and maybe to laugh, but he considered himself reaping more benefits from the act of cooking that meal, more than what Shinichi could ever pay with him in money.
“I can do it for free,” Kaito said, and he found his cheeks aching from the smile that spread across his cheeks. “But in exchange, you have to answer my question: Is it safe to say that I’m your best—“
“Yes,” Shinichi interrupted with a sigh, but his gaze looked a little amused at the same time. “Yes you are.”
