I don’t know how to tell you that criminalizing disrespect for human life and dignity in a society where it’s acceptable to disrespect the human life and dignity of criminals doesn’t actually foster a society that protects the human life and dignity of every person, just that of the people who are Not Criminals and Good (as judged by human law).
#tower of babble#christianity#catholic#consistent life ethic#pro life#if you’re pro ‘anyone who had or subjected someone to an abortion is a murderer and should be tried as such’#you aren’t pro life. you realize the death penalty still exists. you realize what you’re advocating for. right.#my state personally doesn’t allow for capital punishment but it also has some of the worst prison abuse rates in the country#you need need need to have a society that protects human dignity regardless of human judgement.#otherwise you only care about kids. which is good! but if you can’t give them a world where their lives are respected and protected#you have no knowledge of or respect for human life and dignity.#just the lives you happen to like.

"CBP justified the rollback by stating in the memo–titled Rescission of Legacy Policies Related to Care and Custody–that the policies were 'obsolete' and 'misaligned' with the agency’s current enforcement priorities.
Together, the now rescinded policies laid out standards for detainees with heightened medical needs—requiring, for instance, access to water and food for pregnant people, ensuring privacy for breastfeeding mothers, and mandating diapers and unexpired formula be stocked in holding facilities. They also instructed agents to process at-risk individuals as quickly as possible to limit time in custody."

I think one of the hardest things about discussions involving groups of people is that you start to see people as [arbitrary concept] and not as... people. You'll talk trash on people because you think that nobody in your friend group is one of *those* people.
But the kid who's struggling with their sexuality hears you when you say that gay people are going to hell.
The kid who came out on the other side of childhood trauma and abuse hears you when you use their circumstances to justify abortion, essentially implying you'd be better off dead.
The person who's trying not to self-harm in your circles and hasn't found the guts to ask for help yet hears you when you call cutters attention seekers or crazy.
People are far more than [insert group]. They're not 2D representations of a group they're a part of. They're living, human beings. Remember that when you use your words.

Hadn't yet seen anything cross my dash yet about how the HHS is no longer making an autism registry due to the sheer amount of public outcry about the announcement, so I wanted to post this announcement from ASAN as an update.

I'm a simple bitch. i believe the purpose of government should be to improve the lives of its citizens and protect its most vulnerable members. unfortunately i live in a day and age where this gets me labeled an enemy of the state

A lot of people of to act like they're the height if moral purity, as though they've never had a problematic thought or viewpoint that needed correction.
People who have realized their mistakes should be allowed to correct them and be applauded for their humility to own up to the errors of their ways rather than launch themselves further into the wrong direction.
This is an interesting thing. Looks like testimonies of people who left the MAGA movement- how they got into it and why.
Leaving a cult is really hard, so I really respect the people who are speaking from this place.

For anyone who's on the fence and think that you have to vote Republican, no matter how vile the candidate, to in order save the unborn:
Let your conscience rest clear. This man doesn't give a damn about the sanctity of unborn life, and he won't enshrine it in federal law. He's explicitly said he intends to leave it up to the states.
There's no pro-life candidate in this presidental election. I know it sucks, but in this case, vote to keep Trump out of office, and save the lives you still can save.

Speaking of dokiwatch the ad in japan for it I saw on twitter earlier is so cute

#dokiwatch#I’m so glad it’s still absolutely thriving in Japan and even China again ^_^ wb to ow Chinese players ily#c talks#edit: well ow has been thriving in pretty much all Asian regions despite a dip in NA/EU#like their region has always been super invested in the game and is also hyper competitive comparatively and with like#cultural differences in work ethic and balance in life you end up with people who dedicate their life to the game 24/7#and you get lip guxue and shu out of it#NA players tend to try to have a balance in their life and it means they fall behind lol#I’m not saying that’s a bad thing I’m just eternally sick of the ‘Asians are inherently better at video games’ shit#like no NA/EU teams consistently lose to teams from Asia bc the work ethic is different it’s not a racial difference jfc

this is so wild to me because i know that i fall under the umbrella of at least some people's "people who don't deserve human rights," but i have quite literally never had that thought in my life about any human or group of humans. "yes including them, whoever it is you're thinking about right now," it has never even remotely occurred to me to try to deny anyone their human rights.
i think a lot of liberals need to confront the fact that they don’t actually believe everyone should have basic human rights. a homeless person could call me every slur under the sun and i would still want them to have housing, food, etc. the belief that everyone is entitled to basic human rights should not hinge on whether you “like” someone or not. at that point the entire ideology crumbles.
#consistent life ethic#human rights#it just boggles my mind#that there would be groups of people that people reading this post would automatically put into a “doesn't deserve rights” category
