the undersiders collectively probably wouldn’t go out dancing but theyd be very good at it if they did. like... beyond just the powers helping lisa and taylor know about the movements of other ppl and how to navigate the space well, the personalities would be good for it. rachel could thrash hard and would rly like the physical feedback from it and the body language level communication, lisa would be good at anything but would be BEST at ballroom and swing, and skitter I could see rly liking the group coordination of smth like contra, even though she couldn’t bring herself to get up and join. Alec would simply nod along bc no matter how fun dancing is intrinsically it is exercise. Aisha gets him out there once or twice but never for long. Aisha has a better time getting Brian out to join her than alec, and Brian will at least nod his head if theres music around, even if he’d never let himself do anything unbuttoned or rly fun.

Sexual violence: the forgotten chapter of the military dictatorship of Brazil
Despite being present and constant, the sexual violence practiced by repression agents, authorized by the regime's top brass to torture any suspect, is hardly mentioned in history books and other more common records about the period. One of the challenges faced by consultants, academics and specialists who worked at CNV was precisely to bring these reports to light.
"Sexual violence is an unknown aspect of the military dictatorship. Even today, even after the publication of the CNV's final report, it is something that remains little known because it is a taboo topic and carries this extra burden when discussed", says Glenda Mezzaroba, scientist politician who coordinated the working group "Dictatorship and Gender" at the CNV and author of the book A reckoning with the future: amnesty and its consequences, a study of the Brazilian case . "
According to the political scientist, it was extremely important to conceptualize very well what can be considered sexual violence using the concepts of international bodies such as the World Health Organization. Especially because at the time of the military regime (and even today) the concept of sexual violence and rape are very focused on whether or not there was penetration. And the reports collected show that there was, indeed, sexual violence that did not necessarily involve penetration of the vagina or anus, "The majority of victims did not have the idea that being forced to be naked at the time of arrest is already sexual violence," explains. "We even observed that there were allegations of sexual violence in the book that Carlos Marighella published in 1965, reporting electric shocks to the genitals. However, there was not much clarity in the classification of this violence.
The chapter reserved for sexual violence in the final report of the National Truth Commission published in 2014, showed how the agents of repression had a macabre appreciation for the practice. In the reports, the initial act of stripping the prisoner naked and placing him in front of other agents and spectators was standard. Verbal humiliation, accusations and death threats against companions, family and friends then followed. Women were raped in front of their spouses as a way to get them to hand over information.
"I was there, I was vulnerable, completely vulnerable. Then the guy put his hand inside my clothes and then, well, like any other sexual abuse, I won't describe details, but that's what happened. His hand went through everything and I don't know what. He said: 'No, she's going to cum, with me she's going to cum and she's going to talk'. That's just normal people's stuff."
The excerpt above was taken from the testimony of Ieda Akselrud de Seixas, daughter of Minas Gerais militants, raped at DOI-CODI in 1971 when her entire family was arrested for involvement in revolutionary movements that fought against the military regime. Ieda, like several women and men, reports that it took some time to understand that the rape she suffered was also part of the military's torture method.
"But it took me a long time to realize that it was sexual abuse, do you know why? I minimized that episode because, after all, it wasn't a macaw's dick, it wasn't a shock and it wasn't a dragon's chair. That's really crazy! It's really crazy," she said.

Maria Auxiliadora Lara Barcelos, known as "Dora", was arrested in 1969 and taken to the Army Police barracks , in Vila Militar , where she was stripped naked, beaten, and subjected to electric shocks on her breasts, vaginas and various parts of her body. She was banished to Chile in 1971, but had to leave the country because of the Pinochet dictatorship. Dora never recovered from the emotional consequences left by torture and committed suicide in 1976 at the age of 31 in West Berlin. Photo: Reproduction.
The simple fact that they were women, whether left-wing militants or not, was also a reason for the military to curse and verbally humiliate the captured women. The common sense was that they were to blame for being there, as it was far from their role as daughter, wife or mother. Gender hatred was evident. That's why they called them "whore", "slut" and any other adjective that is the counterpoint of saint. The only two roles applicable to women in the regime's view.
"Because you are a woman, you also realize that there is perhaps, sometimes, a much greater anger, I don't know if it is because of the question of thinking 'why is a woman doing this? Why is a girl doing this?' And it's a way, perhaps, of wanting to disqualify you in every way. In fact, the least you hear is that you're a 'cow' That's the way you're called," reported Maria. Aparecida Costa to CNV.
Tumblr media
According to the final report, sexual violence was not occasional but rather widespread as a common practice throughout the repressive structure of the regime. "In the testimonies analyzed by the “Dictatorship and Gender” working group, DEIC, DOI-CODI, DOPS, Galeão Air Base, Army Police battalions, Casa da Morte (Petrópolis), Cenimar, CISA, police stations, Oban are mentioned. , military hospitals, prisons and barracks," says item 37 belonging to chapter 10 of the final report of the National Truth Commission.
In addition to the emotional scars that the torture left on the victims, there are still some who carried great guilt for having given up information about their companions during the torture sessions. This issue was also addressed by the team coordinated by Mezzaroba. In an anonymous statement, a woman reports the great guilt she felt after not having resisted the pain during torture and revealed information to the military. She was arrested at 19 years old.
"(…) We can hear in the speech of many of those who have gone through the experience of imprisonment and torture, referring to themselves, expressions such as “I resisted”, “I didn't inform on”, “I didn't turn anyone in”. Or, referring to others, expressions like: “he didn’t open anything”. (…) Expressions that, on the one hand, reflect the feeling of pride and honor of those who say them, also carry with them, implicitly, even if subtly, a painful accusation against those who say them. who, for some reason, didn't resist. Maybe they don't understand their pain," said the victim in her report.
Mezzaroba says that the owner of the above statement carried a load of guilt, apart from the inevitable psychological consequences of anyone who was a victim of torture promoted by the State. "She brought great pain, embedded in this logic that you should resist and not give anything away. In fact, everything that happens from the first violence in torture, nothing becomes the victim's responsibility after that. (…) she was the victim of unspeakable and incapable of measurement violence. Nothing that happens under torture is the responsibility of the victim. There, the human being no longer has control over his or her body. which is really important."

[ID 1: In this book, I propose that disability can be described as the shrinking of the environment and its existing set of affordances for a given body or bodies, regardless of the cause of shrinkage. I use the concept of “shrinkage” to refer to the process in which possible affordances are reduced in a given body-environment relation. Shrinkage makes the field of possible affordances smaller. Smaller than what? In the case of a congenital disability, the field is smaller than for the normal. In the case of the onset of an illness, pain, or disablement, the field is smaller than it used to be. Shrinkage is a lessening or diminishing in relation to the scope or range that was available before for the person in pain, the person who falls ill, the person who becomes disabled. Irrespective of the differences in starting points of shrinkage, all cases share the common denominator of having fewer options. The environment does not afford as many possibilities as it once did, or as it currently does to privileged coinhabitants. It is exactly this scarcity of opportunities and exigencies that it creates that I want to capture with the idea of shrinkage.
ID 2: Of all our bodily states, Elaine Scarry writes, pain is the only one without a world-counterpart. While fear, desire, and thirst can have corresponding objects, there is no thing in the world outside that can match this unique bodily urgency. Pain, she writes, is utter “objectlessness.” But I would argue that pain still involves a relation to the world, albeit one that is negative. Upon touching a hot surface, for instance, a person feels what is called “acute pain,” and — contra Scarry — that acute pain still takes, and in fact (given its essentiality to biological survival) must take, an object (in this case, the hot surface). Acute pain still offers an affordance, consequently, the affordance of avoiding what could bring harm. We can think of its affordance as avoidance, an “ill” or negative affordance. When pain becomes chronic, such negative affordances inundate the person’s space for action, making it shrink in direct correlation to the amount of pain the person experiences. The more pain you are in, the more the parameters of the environment narrow down, even (at its extreme) to the confines of a bed. From an ecological approach, chronic pain can be thus defined as the shrinking of the environment and its existing set of affordances. To experience chronic pain, I contend, is to experience the scaling down of the environment and the ever-widening distance between the body in pain and its previously available affordances.
ID 3: The constraining space of affordance from which an action can arise is evident in the following, where Drew Leder reflects on a depiction by Herbert Plügge of the “reduced sense of time and space” experienced by cardiac patients: A landscape is viewed not as a field of possibility but of difficulties to negotiate. The ordinary sense of free and spontaneous movement is now replaced by calculated effort: one does not want to take chances. Etymologically, “ease” comes from the French word aise, originally meaning “elbow room” or “opportunity.” This experience of the world-as-opportunity is precisely what dis-ease calls into question.

୨♡୧ definition of terms: ✧ cbm - contra body movement, refers to the movement of your upper body that contradicts the movement of your legs (e.g. moving forward with your left foot so your upper body's direction should be leaning towards right and vice versa) ✧ square hips - basically it's when your hips are the same, neither your right nor left hip should be higher than the other. in latin, your hips are important in balancing your energy, using it to develop power for your performance.

You were lying in bed with your head in his lap while he was leaning against the headboard and running his soft hands through your hair.
His soft touch made you feel so comfortable and the gentle smiles he gaves to you while were talking with you, melted your heart.
It was still early but none of you were sleepy and that's why you decided to lie down next to each other, looking at the first rays of the rising sun coming through the window.
You slowly got up and looked at him who still had a sleepy expression.
"Good morning love"- you said kissing his cheek
"Good morning, did you sleep well?"-He asked while running his hand over your face
"Yeah"
"Me too, you make everything nicer"- he gave that sweet smile again
"Waking up with you by my side was the best gift that life could give me" - you said holding his hand
"I love you so much y/n"
"But I love even more"
You leaned over him a little and kissed his soft lips, he returned that kiss with the same softness and affection. You moved even closer to him putting one leg on either side of him while your arms wrapped around his neck. His hands were on your waist giving light squeezes. The kiss turned more intense and things started to heat up a little more. You pulled away from the kiss and slid your hands down towards the kimono he was wearing and started to undress little by little. He started to do the same to yourself until you were naked. You ran your hands through his hair while he trailed kisses down your neck and collarbone. You arched towards his touch while he were kissing and sucking your breasts gently, his warm mouth leaving marks all over your chest. You moaned his name as he did it. He let go of your breasts and went down your belly kissing every bit of your skin that he loved so much.
"I love every single part of your body, you are so beautiful my love"
He always told you phrases like this to show that he loved you and he wanted above all that you felt good with yourself.
His hands went down to your hips and one of his hands passed along the inside of your thigh until reached to your already wet folds. You moaned into his mouth when he touched you, his fingers running up and down sliding over your folds. You had one arm around his neck while the other was gripping his forearm pulling his fingers closer. He took this as an invitation to put his fingers inside you.
You moaned while you were rubbing against his fingers that made slow movements in and out of you. His thumb began circling your clit and you placed your lips against his to stifle your moans.
His movements started to become faster and you were almost coming into his fingers.
"J-Jushiro... I-I'm coming..."- you moaned on his ear
"Come to me love"
It didn't take long for you to spill yourself into the long fingers that came out of you completely wet. He brought them to his lips and licked them to taste you.
You undid the knot of his hakama and took it off as he pulled you closer to him again. You held onto his already dripping member and sat on him slowly. You and him kissed and moaned together when you sat on him. Your insides tightened around him and it drove him crazy. You put your arms around his neck and kissed him while you slowly moved up and down. Your lips were almost always together, he loved kissing you and having you close to him. His hands grip your hips to help you with the movements that have become faster with time. He went back to kissing your neck and you slid your hands down his broad back, letting your nails mark all his skin.
You leaned your forehead against his and felt both panting breaths mixing. He was always so kind, he was a very peaceful man and preferred things slower and sensual but if you asked for something faster, he wouldn't deny it. He also liked that side and contrary to what many thought he was also daring and sometimes teased.
At some point you started to feel your insides tightening more and more and your legs were getting shaky. He moaned while you tightened around him.
"Y/n... if you keep doing this... I'll come first"
But actually was you who ended up coming first and he came soon after, filling your interiors. You moaned his name loudly without even caring if anyone heard. He was panting and sweaty and you weren't much different either. He lifted you up a bit to get out of you while you rested your head on his chest. He had his hands around you and were giving kisses the top of your head. You tilted your head a little to reach his lips to kiss him.
"Good morning again love"- you said
"Good morning my dear"
"Well, I think we should go shower so your biggest fans don't walk in the door and catch us in this state"
"Sentaro and Kiyone didn't come in like that without me giving them permission"
"I hope so or else they would see their captain's wife naked and we don't want that do we?" - you said teasing him
"They couldn't stand so much beauty and would probably end up both in the 4th division"
"Should I take that as a compliment?"
"Why not?"-he smiled
"I love you and I love that beautiful smile too" - you said placing a small kiss on his lips
"Has anyone ever told you that you are also very beautiful and that your smile makes everything better?"
"You always say that" - you hugging him.
Being in his arms was something divine that only you could experience. His arms made you feel protected and comfortable.

Dia 028
Antidoto? Antidoto de que?
- Leo...
...
Day 028
Things had been quiet, far too quiet, even by Donnie's standards. He appreciated the silence, he appreciated having his time alone, but he missed the breaks from that monotony, but now that he stopped to think... It wasn't just Leo who invaded his workshop to misfortune him, where was Mikey? Even Raph appeared there now and then - more often in the last few weeks - but it was so quiet.
Frighteningly quiet.
His entire body shuddered with that realization, there was something wrong, perhaps a long time ago and due to his hyperfocus he hadn't realized it and maybe it was too late.
- DONNIE! - and there was the storm. Even he could hear the pain and desperation in Leo's voice, something was really wrong.
His eyes caught, by the reflection in the metal of his lamp, the movement on his back, giving him time to dodge to the side seconds before the sword passed within millimeters of his face. His scythe was already in hand when he turned and he felt the impact on his arms as the blade of Leo's sword slammed into the titanium hilt.
- You crossed the line! - the soft shell shuddered to see the anger in his brother's eyes.
His hoof was against his workbench and Leo was forcing him further back, causing him pain from the wound that hadn't fully healed.
- Nardo... I don't know what you're talking about!
Those words only seem to stoke the fire in the red-eared turtle's heart, giving Donnie time to disentangle himself from his brother, pushing him away and adjusting his posture.
- Do not lie to me! Don't be disingenuous! - Leo lowers the sword and walks towards his twin, grabbing him by the collar of his coat. - You were the only one who knew about Usagi! The only one who had the motive and ability to do this to him! - anger turns into tears that run down his cheeks. - Just... Tell me you have the antidote!
Antidote? Antidote to what?
- Leo... - he holds his brother's hand, surprised to feel it shaking and makes an effort to be sincere in his eye contact. - I... I really don't know what you're talking about! I haven't left the workshop since I managed to get up...
- W-what?

Magic System Pt. II - Astrology
About a week ago, we looked at Necromancy, one of the magiae contra deos that originates from the very cosmology of the world itself. This is about a very similar type of magic, though perhaps one that doesn't require as much an introduction.
Astrology -- that is to say, divinatory practices derived from the apparent positions of celestial objects -- has existed for millennia, across most (if not all) cultures. The contemporary* form of astrology, Hellenistic astrology, began at around the 2nd century BC, but saw a major renaissance during the Palmyrene Golden Era (4th-9th century AD), where it expanded into radical new doctrines like Sonivian astrology and became more advanced and precise with the discovery and manipulation of aether.
*To this world's ancientesque alternate-historical setting.
Astrological doctrines
Divination
All celestial bodies are made of a material known as aether, a plasma-like fluid, made up of dodecahedral atoms, that has the special property of being able to move without a mover, and will always flow in the vicinity of a geometrically "perfect" or "divine" pattern. The celestial spheres are themselves made of thousands of invisible patterns that periodically shift according to the will of the Fates. By itself, aether will naturally flow according to these existing celestial patterns.
it was thought that aether didn't occur naturally on the earth until it was actually discovered that there are actually incredibly small concentrations of aether on the earth, and especially in human beings.*
The present aether, thus, creates subtle "tugs" within the human body and mind, that can lead to taking decisions and choosing paths that are, in a way, determined by the stars. By analyzing the behavior of the planets, as well as the movements of earthborne aether, somebody trained in the astrological arts can make guesses on future events, and thus, divine. This is one of the few branches of astrology that is deemed accepted by the gods, i.e. a magia ex deis.
*Note: While presence of aether in the bloodstream can lead to the formation of ichor, a poisonous humor that can cause seizures and death, the aether that is naturally present in the body exists by itself and safeguarded in the pineal gland.
Catasterism
As established in the previous post, death is the separation of the essential components of human consciousness. One of these, the soul, also known as the astral body, is entirely made out of aether, and when released will float back up into the heavens, albeit with a different behavior from most inert aether, i.e. having freedom of movement.
Through carefully controlled near-death or death and reanimation, a person's soul can exit their body, freely explore the heavens and the earth, and promptly return to the body, with memories of the experience. This can also happen naturally on very rare occasions. This practice is what's known as catasterism, or more casually, astral projection.
Historically, it has been a very feared and frowned upon practice, due to its deadly stakes, and it took centuries before medicine advanced enough to make it safe to properly use, but even then it never lost its taboo.
However, it has seen its applications. Most notably, warfare. It's said that the first astral projection performed was on empress Zenobia herself, through which she learned of Aurelian's plans and tactics to reconquer the rebel empire. This is most likely an exaggerated and mythologized account, however it is well documented that the Palmyrene Empire used astral espionage extensively across its military history. The rest of the empires bound by the Peace of Spalatum still reject this practice, but do reserve the divine right to use it to ensure the survival of the state.
Sonivianism
Most controversial of all, sonivian astrology (from Latin sonivius, meaning "noisy" in a strictly augural sense) refers to a special form of divination where instead of the positions of the planets, the musica universalis produced by them is used to divine with, by noticing the subtle changes in the amplitudes and the frequencies in the sounds of the planets, as well as the more erratic noises of the aether that inhabits human beings.
The musica universalis is usually deemed imperceptible to mortal ears, however, it was found that with great meditation and silence, it can be very subtly heard. The difficulties present themselves in the fact that the earthly senses "cloud" the higher ones such as this heavenly harmony, and from this principle is where most of the characteristic features of sonivians arise.
In the search to understand the musica universalis better, those who practiced this doctrine of astrology sought a path of complete sensory deprivation, which with the advances in medicine became eventually absolute. By completely cutting themselves off from their earthly senses, these mages learned to completely rely on the musica universalis to sense the world, and are able to divine with vastly greater precision.
Eventually, these mages coalesced into their own isolated societies, with hierarchies and tiers based around how disconnected from their material senses they are. It begins with removal of the eyes, followed by intentional damage of the eardrum, followed by amputation of the tongue, followed by either intentional blockage of the nose or outright removal, and finally at the highest stage, most difficult to obtain, a complicated brain surgery that removes the sense of touch.
Due to their gruesome practices and ghoulish appearance, sonivian astrologers are seen in folklore as malicious forces of evil, even demons, and the astrologer in turn looks down upon the commoner, creating a cycle that leads to their characteristic isolation. One of the most well known sonivian astrologers is the Epiglottal Judge, or "the madman of Pallas" who holds the gate to the giant's digestive and respiratory systems.
Mythological origin
Humans have been trying to find meaning in the skies for as long as they have existed. Even during the Golden Age (spanning from the beginning of time to the Titanomachy), when there was no need for timekeeping, the Moon's cycles were still recorded.
Moreover, the beats of history have been innately influenced by the stars. The Thema Mundi, that being the initial position of the planets at the beginning of time, has historically been a symbol of great change. The Titanomachy, great war that ended the Golden Age, and with it the reign of Cronus, happened on August 21st, 4835 BC; the Gigantomachy, which ended the Silver Age, happened on the same date, 2030 BC; the Trojan War also happened on the same date in 1275 BC, and the Peace of Spalatum, which ended the Iron Age and brought great advancement to the magical arts, also happened that same date, 312 AD.
During the latter years of the Bronze Age, when the Thema Mundi seemed to approach, the gods realized that their place in the heavens was endangered. They already survived an usurpation attempt by the Giants, but they were in fear of just what might come next. They workshopped the idea of cutting themselves off from the world they created, to forsake humanity, retreating into their heavenly forts, and thus began to use the stars to communicate instead. This plan came to fruition with the Trojan War, an event which rekindled the flame of the Titanomachy and showed the gods the true extent of man's potential for bloodshed. And from then on, in the Iron Age, there was only silence. Hermes came down a last time to teach the remaining kingdoms of the earth the astrological arts, with which the gods would communicate, and then they never returned.

[“At the beginning of the twentieth century, as sexologists could no longer ignore the existence of gender conforming homosexuals who did not fit their theory that deviant sexuality was based on inverted bodies, they began to elaborate between different kinds of inverts. A classic, or congenital invert, was masculine when they should have been feminine (or vice versa), and had a body that was inherently contra-sexed as well. In some cases, congenital inverts may have been people we would today call intersex, but often they were simply presumed to be bodily different because inversion theory proclaimed them so. To this classification, sexologists added the idea of the acquired invert, who was normal in body and properly gendered but had same-sex desires because they were either insane, uncontrollably oversexed, drug-addled, or seduced by a congenital invert.
Upon first meeting Renée, Spraggins told her and her stepmother that “in some cases the condition [homosexuality] was biological and in others acquired.” In her case notes, she followed this up by saying that Renée was “physiologically a female, has all the feminine characteristics and… was menstruating.” Spraggins clearly hoped that she was not a born invert. There was no question about Bernice, who was definitely the femme to Renée’s butch. In Spraggins’s mind, if neither of the girls were congenital inverts, it stood to reason that the relationship would peter out.
Over the course of the next month and a half, Spraggins watched the two girls closely. Bernice, she noted, was friendly, cooperative, quiet, and interested in dressmaking, nursing, and other appropriately feminine activities. Renée was “masculine,” wanted to wear pants, and got into fights with other women. To Spraggins, this made things clear: Renée was an inverted homosexual, but Bernice was “normal,” and “something should be done to break up this relationship.”
At the end of May 1949, Spraggins confronted Bernice—who, in turn, confronted Spraggins. With “great precision,” Bernice informed Spraggins that she had been waiting for Spraggins to say something: she was in love with Renée and “had no guilt feelings.” Bernice then articulated a perfect summation of the mindset of the early homophile rights movement that was developing around the country: “She feels that this kind of abnormal behavior is a way of life and that people should be permitted, without interference, to go on living in this way if it pleases the parties involved.”
A shocked Spraggins suggested a psychiatrist, but Bernice wasn’t interested. She didn’t have a problem; she didn’t need a solution. Stymied, Spraggins turned on Renée, who informed her that “no kind of help will ‘change me.’” Furthermore, she told Spraggins, “people should be left alone and permitted to live their own lives, even though their way of living may be different from other people who consider themselves ‘normal.’” Just a few years earlier, Tonie B. had flaunted being “abnormal”; now, Renée was pushing back on the very idea of “normal” itself.
From this point on, the WPA schemed ways to break the two up.”]

Reclining Girl
Tumblr media
Title: Reclining Girl
Artist: Francois Boucher
Date: 1752
Movement: French Rococo
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Genre: Genre painting/Portrait
Last one by Boucher, I swear.
The last thing to note about Boucher is his use of a woman’s body. Boucher is often celebrated for his depiction of women, it has been seen earlier this month, but he never attempted to make them more appealing to the body standard at the time. Chubby rosy faced women, dimples and rolls are prominent on his figures bodies, and they are depicted as women of beauty and divinity, rather than figures of gluttony as other women with these features would have been used.
As much as we are told fatter women were considered more attractive in the past, that’s not as true as we think it to be. There is still a preference for skinnier women and it wasn’t uncommon for perceived imperfections to be painted out of portraits of women.
While this might mean nothing to some art historians, it is very important when considering art from a personal preservative and how the context of “beauty” can effect the viewer’s experience, especially viewers who look like the women in these paintings.
To quote video essayist and youtuber Natalie Wynn (Better known by her internet name, Contra Points) “It’s actually hard to think of your body type as beautiful until you’ve seen it sculpted in white Marble,”
I believe these words apply to the women who see themselves in these paintings as sexual beings, goddesses, and most importantly, beautiful.

Bernardo Arévalo rode a wave of discontent over corruption to become Guatemala’s president. But 100 days into his government, the new president’s anti-graft drive is being outpaced by an energetic campaign against extortion and drug trafficking.
Arévalo, who took office in January, has said his government “will not tolerate corruption.” But his administration has yet to announce a comprehensive plan for dealing with graft. Some campaign promises – such as the creation of new anti-corruption bodies, an anti-bribery police, and legislation to bar corrupt officials from office – were conspicuously absent from the president’s 100-day plan.
Instead, the new government has begun by focusing its energies on exposing corrupt schemes mounted during the administration of Arévalo’s predecessor, former president Alejandro Giammattei (2020-2024). The president has also taken aim at Guatemala’s controversial Attorney General, Consuelo Porras, whose office made repeated attempts to block an orderly transition of power.
Though still finding his feet on corruption, Arévalo has gone full-throttle on security. Authorities have launched an aggressive clampdown on extortion, while a series of bumper cocaine seizures have eclipsed the previous government’s anti-narcotics operations.
Below, recaps Arévalo’s first months in government and his initial strategies for dealing with corruption and organized crime.
Digging Up Past Corruption
Arévalo faces an uphill battle when it comes to tackling corruption. The president inherited a weak judicial system. His party, the Seed Movement (Movimiento Semilla), has a minority bloc in congress and may struggle to pass anti-corruption reforms.
With limited tools, Arévalo’s initial anti-corruption maneuvers have relied on executive powers.
In February, his government launched the National Commission Against Corruption (Comisión Nacional contra la Corrupción – CNC), a rebranded version of a presidential commission created by Giammattei. By early March, the CNC had started working with ministries to expose potential acts of corruption – particularly in the public works, health, and education sectors – linked to Giammattei-era officials.
Vergangene Korruption ausgraben
Officials quickly began a review of over 1,400 potentially onerous public works contracts awarded during the Giammattei administration. Communications Minister Jazmín de la Vega then filed a series of legal complaints against former public works officials over construction projects that left highways and schools incomplete.
Arévalo officials also accused former health minister, Amelia Flores, of corruption. Flores became embroiled in a major scandal in 2021 after signing a shambolic contract to secure COVID-19 vaccines from Russia via a dubious intermediary. Flores resigned during the pandemic but escaped legal troubles over the vaccine contract.
As of early April, the Arévalo government had filed 17 accusations of government corruption with the Attorney General’s Office.
“The government has done well in presenting these accusations,” said Stephen McFarland, a retired US diplomat and former ambassador to Guatemala. “The facts are on their side.”
But whether these accusations prosper remains to be seen. Arévalo does not have an ally in Attorney General Porras, whose office has a monopoly on state prosecution. Under Porras – a close ally of Giammattei – prosecutors have shelved major corruption cases implicating former officials.
“The Attorney General’s Office is defending them tooth and nail,” said McFarland, referring to the former Giammattei officials.
Sparring with Attorney General Porras
Before taking office, Arévalo promised supporters he would demand Attorney General Porras’ resignation. The pledge came after weeks of nationwide protests against Porras, whose office looked set to derail the transition of power by launching spurious investigations into Arévalo and his party.
Porras has also spearheaded a systematic campaign aimed at weakening the Attorney General’s Office from within. Most high-profile corruption investigations have stalled under her tenure.
Arévalo’s attempts to oust Porras have fallen short of formally demanding her resignation;  under Guatemalan law, a president cannot force the attorney general to resign. Instead, his government filed a legal complaint against her, citing a technicality, in the hope of lifting her political immunity.
The new administration has also gone after Porras’ general secretary and right-hand-man, Ángel Pineda, accusing him of using public funds to harass exiled prosecutors with politically motivated lawsuits. Pineda denies the allegations.
Arévalo’s head-on strategy grabbed headlines, but its chances of success are slim: Porras has allies in the courts, who have so far stalled the vote on her immunity.
Losing the showdown with Porras would both limit the scope of Arévalo’s anti-corruption ambitions and potentially exacerbate the existential threat to his government posed by Porras’ ranks of loyal prosecutors.
“Porras and Arévalo are on a collision course,” said Jo-Marie Burt, an associate professor at the Schar School of Policy and President of the Latin American Studies Association (LASA).
“If he is unable to replace her, it is quite possible that he will be steamrolled by her,” she added.
Getting Tougher on Crime
While Arévalo is still finding a rhythm on corruption, his government wasted no time on security.
Guatemalan authorities announced a major crackdown on extortion just days after Arévalo’s inauguration. Police have staged multiple raids on notorious prison gangs and arrested over 500 people suspected of extortion in the first months of government.
The anti-extortion campaign bears some similarities with a hardline anti-gang crackdown in neighboring El Salvador. Authorities in both countries have posted a stream of bombastic videos promoting police operations, some set to dramatic music. Other clips flaunt police power in regimented parades. Government social media accounts have also plastered photos of suspected gang members on Twitter, now X.
Drug trafficking is also high on the security agenda. Guatemalan authorities seized over 5 tons of cocaine in the 59 days since Arévalo took power – more than double the amount seized in 2023.

Advancedrolfingfortworthdallas Rolf Movement Treatment 2
The amount of attention to detail can be observed and deeply felt with the second movement session. Integrating the spine, pelvis, and legs are the goals of this Rolfing session. Begin by having the client on hands and knees.
The integration of the pelvic girdle and spine is palpable when the articulation of the spinal complex transmissions smoothly from the sacrum to the mid dorsal hinge. With client on the floor, on hands and knees, and the practitioners thumbs are into the laminar groove from L5 to L1 the client can begin to articulate the micro movements of the spine. While forced exhalation engages transverse abdominus, movement happens when that forced exhalation and lumbar flexion is meet with resistance by pushing on T.P's. while client resists and pushes back. This will activate core stability and should be repeated several times for L5-L1.
The core stability is what we are ultimately looking for. The body responds to pain by drawing up and in, using tonic and phasic tissues to stabilize the area. These movement exercises are cultivating a new nervous system potential that is using only what is necessary to stabilize.
The client can lye supine on table with their feet at a 90 degree angle onto a wall or some thing of the like, bringing awareness to the four corners of their feet as well as the whole plantar surface. Awareness of shifts in sensation should be involved all the way up to the sacrum while alternating pressure through the foot in a guided sensory experience. This movement exercise takes the client out of gravity and on their back; this positioning is part of what makes this so profound to the process. The alternating of pressure continues cultivating contra-lateral potentials.
The client can come to standing and walk through gait cycle assessing movement at MDH and how that transmissions up and down to both or neither girdle. The final tool in attempting integration of the legs and pelvis is known as ocular decoupling of limbs of support and is experienced by the client supine while following the range of movement of femur in hip with their peripheral vision. This movement exercise is known to release bound energetic potential in the pelvis and enable a more fluid gait cycle.
When the client stands a new felt sense of integration typically emerges as they walk. The psoas extension and associated toe hinge is usually observed as the client explores the new freedom of contra lateral expression.
This is a great place to end the session. The Certified Rolfing Ten Series has the ability to reduce pain and release tension in the connective and myofascial tissue of the body associated with TMJ, CTS, RLS, Fibromyalgia, Sciatica, Fascitis, Bunions, Scoliosis, and Cerebral Palsy. Fascial asymmetries can cause foot, leg, knee, hip, back, shoulder, neck, arm, hand, and head pain; integration therapy is necessary. Orthopedic, Chiropractic, Physical, and Massage Therapist recognize Rolfing and Rolf Movement as premium pain management utilizing Structural, Functional, and Postural Integration.

ive yet to finish reading steppenwolf, and i originally meant to write my thoughts on it only after i finished, but bc hermine has been teaching harry how to dance and all... so dancing has been on my mind a lot. ahhh
i dont dance, but i genuinely wish i was born a dancer and i do really wish to learn to dance. honestly i find it difficult to make my body move the way i want it to, and i hate that even just the thought of moving my own physical being sometimes feels strange. like, is this not my own body? but anyway.. dancing! ahh i admire dancers very much, envious probably! of how naturally and comfortably they can move their body. i do believe its very beautiful and i quite love watching ppl dance, but it has always felt very separate from me. but enough of that!
actually!!!! some friends took me to join them contra dancing one evening last year (its funny, it was almost entirely just elderly ppl and young queer ppl hahaha) and i remember it was the most fun and alive i had felt in a while. very clear memories of this one elderly man wanting to teach me to dance better and he quite literally spun me in circles very fast without warning and then suddenly tipped me backwards that i screamed while my friends were watching, but it was fun!!!! hahaha
also i really felt like i fell in love with each stranger i partnered to danced with. i sometimes think of the really tall and lovely girl with short hair who came up to me asking to dance with her and ahh!!! it was a very cute interaction and she was so kind to me (basically the dance is partnered and has two different positions, and i had only learned one of the positions so she offered being the other position for me even tho she herself said she preferred the same position), i had so much fun while we danced! after our song was over, i suddenly jumped up to hug her out of excitement and to thank her, and she lifted me off the ground!!!! ahh!!!!! i love strong tall ppl hugs hahaha she also asked if i was to come again the next week (i said id love to, but actually my friends were busy and i never got to go again</3)
anyway reading that part of harry dancing made me remember this and hopefully ill find the chance to do something similar again!!! ahh i miss it. we were there for hours and we were all tired and sweaty when it was over, but i felt so.. light? i was confused why none of my friends shared the same feeling. one of them told me they thought i looked brighter than usual, which is.. interesting i suppose hahaha
honestly i think the reason i enjoyed it was probably bc not much dancing skills were actually required of me. for contra dancing being a coupled dance, its traditionally the man leading the dance for the lady. obviously anyone can dance either part, but i basically only danced the position where i mostly relied on my partner to lead and guide my movements. ahhh i long for a dance partner again!!!! id be a terrible dance partner hahaha but id try!!!!
anyway this actually had nothing to do with steppenwolf, but i wonder if harry felt the same dancing the fox trot hahaha. like him, i was rather opposed to it at first thinking it just wasnt for me, and only joined bc i cant say no to my friends.. but!!! i had so much fun agrhrhjf its been too long that i cant fully recall how i felt but.. im sure i felt some sort of relief and love for everything in the moment.
