hello I hope you are doing well what are some shows you're currently enjoying?
tbh enjoyed gay books and movies more this year, shows have been kinda not it this year... after jack and rayane flopped the second they got together, it's just been getting worse and worse but i guess there have been some gems here and there to be fair... hearstopper s2 was good, the lake s2 was funny but not as good as s1, be my favorite was actually a decent bl which didn't follow the same tired formula of having main gay couple and side gay couple and other side couple with a lil sprinkle of random passive-aggressive behavior towards women... this one actually threw all of that away and became its own thing with an amazing female character so that was nice to see... bodies was actually decent and weirdly good show with a gay subplot.... but my favorite is for sure the new polish series on netflix absolute beginners which is apparently a controversial opinion to have since some americans people need to be told everything in text in order to understand some things told in visuals so i guess it's not for everyone but for me it was the only 10/10 show of the year... oh and everything now was a slay as well, i'd say my second fav show of the year... tbh there have been like over 80 new shows/seasons released this year alone so it's hard to keep up and find the good ones idk... as for shows which are airing week to week rn, i'd say there are zero i watch... un professore not giving simuel rn, bettys diagnose gay storyline kinda stale, that's about it... i'm watching the old craig/john paul storyline from hollyoaks for the first time rn so that's been fun... and i'm looking forward to mary & george (the trailer!!!!!!!), blutige anfänger s5 (i just know bruno and phillip gonna serve in this season since they lowkey got popular for a week or so during s4 and the showrunners know about it) and big boys s2

Now I’m curious about your ST thoughts!!!😭 but could you talk about your favorite parts of stranger things/your favorite characters? (If you don’t want to share the unpopular opinions ofc!)
omg of course i have No Fear of discourse, i'm always open to sharing unpopular opinions, i just couldn't be bothered to type up a whole post unprompted lmao but okay
starting with my fav parts of the show:
i will forever say s1 is the best season of the show and it really doesn't matter how good s5 is, because it won't top s1. from the bottom of my heart i think stranger things would have been a kickass miniseries and probably should have stopped after season 1 because i think it went from a good show to a fun show after that
that said there are always things i love from each season. in s2 i really adored hopper and el's story, in s3 i loved robin's inclusion, and in s4 i thought the max stuff was really great
i am also unashamedly a stancy truther and i literally dont care what y'all say i'm correct and it would actually make PERFECT sense for them to get back together now
hopper is forever my fav character and i think david harbour's performance in this show is truly incredible
then if we want to go to my um... controversial opinions. i'll just let them rip
i think all the kid actors except for sadie sink have gotten noticeably worse. although i would say gaten matarazzo is pretty much the same, and i want to say finn wolfhard hasn't gotten worse but maybe that's because he was so great in the it movies. in this, there's really no way to tell bc they don't give him anything to do lmao
i don't have any real investment in the mike/will/el love triangle but i will say if you rewatch the first season, it's pretty clear that mike really loved el and i think it's just because they feel so lackluster right now that people are convinced they won't end up together but like. i personally would not be getting my hopes up lmao
i also think fanon perception of the show has truly gotten so divorced from reality it's literally crazy. i can expand upon this but i don't want to piss people off THAT much lmao
i think stranger things has a huge problem with consistent characterization and there's always one character you see that with most pronounced from season to season. in s2 it was joyce who straightened her hair and put on eyeshadow and became an entirely different kind of parent because of that i guess. s3 it was hopper who became an oafish comedic device. and in s4 i hate to say it and you guys will be mad, but robin. that is a different fucking character than season 3!!! in s3 she was like. the cool girl/savvy loner, kind of snarky, relatively sarcastic and like ridiculously smart. in s4 she's just like gangly and awkward and talks a mild a minute and claims to have no understanding of social cues. what???? i mean, i like the nerdy lesbian as much as the cool lesbian but that's just blatantly not what she was and i think it's really disappointing that they took this character that was aloof and witty and very socially savvy and made her a nerd because that's how writing lesbians made more sense in their brain i guess i don't know
and for the real kicker..... i think eleven should have died in s4. i'm actually so fucking bored that she didn't. and that's not because i hate her character but because she has effectively turned into a deus ex machina and i am tired of every season ending with millie bobby brown sticking her hand out and screaming until the monster dies. i was SO BORED during the last half of that battle. and look, they had their chance to get rid of that deus ex machina without killing her when they took her powers away, but they obviously didn't know how to write without that convenient plot device in their back pocket so they immediately gave her powers back to her. stupid! killing 11 would have genuinely been the most interesting thing to do going into s5 because then our main cast would be confronted with how to stop the monster without their resident superhero, and that's a difficult thing to write which is obviously why the stranger things writers didn't want to do it lmao. so yea. i'm team kill eleven before the finale so i don't have to sit through another hour of telekinetic lazy writing

Hey, I saw your post that you're a bi Mike truther but also a Mike-was-never-in-love-with-El truther. My question is, if he doesn't have feelings for El, what other canon from the show clues you in that Mike is bi? Or I guess, what makes you certain he's not gay? Thanks!
Hiii! :)
To be quite honest, the show itself has not given us any "Mike is gay" or "Mike is bi" clues. And I want to clarify that this is my personal feelings and understanding, if other people have seen clues than good for them.
The show has however given us "Mike is not in love with 3l and 3l is not in love with Mike" clues. And the show has also given us "Mike looks at Will the same way as he looks/looked at 3l" clues. It's given us "Mike can't be friends with Will and at the same time be 3l's boyfriend" clues.
And to be even more honest, even before S4 I couldn't really care at all of the relationship between Mcflurry. I feel the romance being in the center of S3, esp the Mcflurry one, is what makes the season my least favorite season. Because I watch ST for the supernatural and mystery stuff, and not for the romance. And when it comes to the romance part, I'm all for J0pper and couldn't care about the others (even if I lowkey ship St@ncy).
But anyways, going back to why I see Mike as bi it's mostly because I want him to be it and also because I do believe that Mike had a crush on 3l. I think that he felt something for him. Just like I think that N@ncy cared and felt something for St3ve in S1 and S2, but she wasn't in love with him. She just thought she was because she didn't know better.
Mike as a character needs to be needed and wanted. He needs to protect. Like that's what we got from Season 4 and it traces back to the earlier seasons. I don't think that Mike has been in love with Will since S1 or even S2. I think that when Mike met 3l he took her in because she could help find Will. And I know that it's a controversial opinion but that's what the show was telling us. HOWEVER shortly after we got shown that Mike actually cared for her and wanted to protect her, and that he defended her against his own close friends. That he wanted to keep her safe. Him "using" her in order to help Will and then shortly after actually caring for and starting to like her, those two things can exist and be true. It's not black and white.
And Mike's protective character and his need to be needed comes back in S2, when he notices that something is going on with Will and is doing everything he can do keep him safe. That he sleeps in a sleeping bag just to make sure that Will is doing okay. It circles back to S4 when Will tells him that he can feel 001, and Mike immediately gets into the protective role. Because that is who he is as a character.
And I think that because of this, the way he sees relationship with 3l is like "oh I want to protect her and I don't want anything bad to happen to her. I don't want to lose her, and I like kissing her" = "I'm in love with her". But in my opinion, that's just Mike's personality and the kissing part comes from how he believes that people in relationships need to be and behave - and he's a teen so. But Mike makes himself smaller in the relationship. He doesn't think that he's worthy because he not as good or as powerful, or that he has to grow up and leave all his childhood behind. That he can't play games or want to be play games, or sing silly songs because he thinks that in order to be in a relationship and that people in love need to lose parts of themselves. It's like the "We like St3ve, but we don't love St3ve" quote. But here it's "We like 3l. We care for her and we love her, but we are not in love with her". And I know that there's different meanings of the whole "love" vs "in love" thing, but for me it means that loving someone doesn't equal to being in love with someone, and being in love with someone doesn't always equal to loving someone. In a relationship both need to be there.
But anyways, I'm rambling nonsense but to answer the question I think that Mike loves 3l and he felt something for her, but it wasn't in love. It's also why his interactions with her can be paralleled with his interactions with Will. And that's why I also think that he's bi and not gay. I also think that if the writers are actually going there with Byler they won't label Mike, and if they do it will be as bi because they wouldn't want the storm after.

Opinion on Mahidevran and Mustafa in the show?
man in retrospect i think they were both done pretty dirty by the show, mahidevran was made, imo, too unlikable and mustafa too, desperately, likable
i kind of will never understand why the screenwriters threw that final blow at her after mustafa's execution, when HURREM of all people sat there bawling over the guy she schemed to kill while mahidevran did the same will a big ol smile on her face and was wishing more death upon hurrem's children till the very last second. i kinda dont think that this is a woman who'd receive financial support from selim when he ascended the throne, unless the show was trying to tell us something with this behaviour just why double down on the trash. back in the day there'd be heated debates, the usual hurrem v mahidevran pvp, but nowadays im only shaking my head at the production team, mahidevran being spiteful 24/7 rests entirely on your conscience mates, it's over a decade since the show came out and i just want justice for this woman. too tiring really, watching her go like that without a break, even hurrem got hers frequently tf
mustafa my god. unarguably the biggest victim of the writing. at some point the showrunners realised they're mustafa kinnies and the rest is a massacre, how do you figuratively project a halo on a character like that is beyond me. once again im way past the point of discussing this as a some sort of character analysis, mustafa was gradually becoming extremely annoying to me and that's entirely the script's fault. never met a daddy's favorite that was THAT obviously loved to the point that he'd get angel wings attached to him, and i think what was the main annoying point of that wasn't because a character is not allowed to be good, but because it was just so predictable. by s4 you could read where each plotline went 3 episodes ahead of its conclusion, and while you could also guess how each character would emerge from it, there was still little intrigue to it. maybe they'd do something controversial and that would be discussed at the latest 500 comment long scandal, maybe they'd so something surprisingly good. but how mustafa would crawl out of a plotline was always, always known, and it really annoyed me because the diversity was none and he was destined to glow white anytime while every other character was made to stain themselves as his plot armor protectors. i couldnt wait for him to die, big happy moment for me, and even that was a drag for like 5 episodes. the show then had how many episodes left after that? ten? bruh? literally deflated the entire narrative that still had a whole decade to go and 100 characters to focus on because mustafa kicked the bucket. the second the show decided it's "the magnificent mustafa" it never recovered and pulled everything down with it, so to me his character really IS the single biggest tragedy of the entire series. also the moment they looked at how his facial hair peaked around idk like 10? ish episodes into his adult self and then forced it to grow further for that goat style look :/ make my man look good at least if you want me to swallow your bs damn
so tldr both annoyed me but nowadays i only target my blame towards the production team while shielding the actual characters with my sexy body

Hi sunflower, what's your thoughts on T Swift's Betty being a catradora song???
Me, taking a break from spop to focus on my mental health and setting better boundaries:
Tumblr media
Me, reading this ask:
Tumblr media
This ask woke me up from like a deep, sleeping beauty type slumber, not joking. I don’t get asked to talk about Taylor Swift often, despite being a fan of hers since I was nine years old (I’m 22 now *wink*) and we are about to find out why. But I pride myself on taking any fiction piece of media I interact with and connecting it somehow to Taylor Swift. I can do so to varying degrees of success (usually depends on the ships and romance of the world) but there are so many songs of Taylor’s that have just fit Catradora so well for me, both in and out of canon.
Some of my favorite examples: out of the woods (AND IT KEPT ME UP AT NIGHT WHEN NOELLE SAID THIS WAS HER TAYLOR SWIFT SONG FOR CATRADORA LIKE GAH CASUAL TS LISTENERS WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND) bad blood, lwymd, don’t blame, dancing with our hands tied, the archer, breathe, you’re not sorry, the way I loved you, forever & always, should’ve said no, safe & sound- I could go on.
But I won’t because I wanna stay on topic and talk about betty. Now I have a number of songs from the folklore/evermore series that are for me catradora songs (we’ll get to that in a minute) but this one is… challenging. Because I could be like “yes, because [insert casual reason here]” or “no, because [insert casual reason here]” but I can’t because Taylor feeds her children well and there’s several aspects of this song I feel like should be considered.
This biggest one to be considered, for me, is the love triangle aspect. Folklore features at length the betty/james/Augustine love triangle, each of them having one main song on the album from their POV. Betty's is cardigan, augustine’s is august, and james’ is betty. (also I’m going to throw out the gender component for a second; I know taylor says that Betty is about a guy’s apology and I totally vibe with her reasons why she wanted to write a song about a boy apologizing BECAUSE HOW GREAT WOULD THAT BE?) The love triangle makes the application of Catradora iffy at best. Because it’s like, who would be who? I am going to go out on a limb and assume that you’re seeing Catra as James? I think that personality wise, Adora as Betty and Catra as James is not a stone’s throw away from fitting actually really well. Adora’s canon journey is one of coming to realize “I know what I want and I know that it’s okay to want it” and a big part of Catra’s arc is her being like “Well shit… there goes my plans. Kind of feeling like a dumbass rn” especially in s4/s5.
(That s4/s5 distinction is important; I’ll show why in a second)
But for me, there’s no augustine. Or one that’s obvious anyway. I never imagined that either Catra or Adora dated or even had any inclinations with anyone else during the five season run- that’s just my personal opinion, people are completely welcome to feel free to disagree. I don’t think Catra acted even out of distraction with Scorpia or DT, and I think Adora was so focused on being She Ra that when she wasn’t thinking about failing/abandoning Catra when she alloted time to do so, she was thinking about the crushing weight of her responsibilities. So you know, not that much time to get back out there. So I rule out what causes James to apologize in the first place- cheating.
Side note about James cheating- I’m pretty sure Taylor confirmed this, in the long pond studio sessions doc, when she’s telling Jack Antonoff (MY BOY JACK) and Aaron Dessner ( GRAMMY AWARD WINNING KING) that James “was a fool!” And James did sleep with Augustine as confirmed in august, but cardigan makes it seem like he was definitely dating Betty before the summer. Maybe Taylor took inspiration from friends and they “were on break.” I also believe that the kiss in the Heart is the first kiss, that Catra and Adora were never ‘together’ together before Adora found the sword and defected (again, that’s just an opinion, but Adora just looks so wonderfully gobsmacked), so…
We can rule out cheating, and I think we can accomplish this and still reserve the essential meaning of the song of “I did something wrong, I see that now, I apologize for doing it, and I still love you” by widening the lens of what the “did something wrong” was (or “did something bad” you know *wink*). In that wider lens really you could fit either Catra or Adora into the song, but I’m still going to assume Catra is the James in this scenario based on how much of her redemption arc is formed around her refusal to say sorry and then eventually doing so. Of course there is no standing your porchlight but rather standing while wrestling a bunch of murderous clones…. Hmm….
But there are some stupid friends! I wholeheartedly believe Catra is James because of the dissing of Betty’s friends. That’s what Catra does to Bow, Glimmer and the rebellion et al., for most of the show and by the end of s4 she has no friends for Adora to even mock (terrible and cruel of me, I know, but it’s true). Also I know people are like “he called her friends stupid and then expected betty to take him back?” but I scream sing the line “WILL YOU KISS ME ON THE PORCH IN FRONT OF ALL YOUR STUPID FRIENDS?” every time. It brings me serotonin.
Along those lines we can ask “Who’s Inez?” in this situation. When I think gossip no one from the show really comes to mind, well, expect for Double Trouble. But Double Trouble doesn’t ever speak to Adora about Catra. This happens vice-versa, and in Betty, James reveals that Inez told Betty he cheated on her.
I want to say something controversial… Glimmer comes to mind when I think “who’s the Inez?” And this is based off of two things: 1) Inez’s closeness to Betty, and 2) Inez drags James out to dry, rightfully so. And when I think of that I think of Glimmer screaming “Do one good thing in your life!” directly in Catra’s face. James gives Inez a bad wrap in Betty. Not cool James.
Of course there’s the pivotal, “would you tell me to go fuck myself?/ or lead me to the garden?” To me this a fun way of showing there’s vulnerability to what James is doing, so automatically I’m led to is the scene where Catra asks Adora to stay, or each time in s5 when Catra risks, basically an identity crisis to let Adora in how she really feels, but there’s always the potential that Adora could spurn her by not returning her feelings or rejecting her outright.
I think the best argument that can be made for “is betty a catradora song” can really be encapsulated by the lyric(s): “the worst thing that I ever did is what I did to you” and “the only thing I wanna do is make it up to you.” That is what about the song SCREAMS Catra to me. And yeah, it could be argued that Adora hurt Catra pretty brutally (Shadow Weaver makes that point EVEN THOUGH SHE HAD NO RIGHT TO) that she messed up by abandoning Catra- but Adora feels guilt for... literally breathing. Adora is the quintessential embodiment of “pick your battles, no that’s too many battles, put some back,” but Catra picked one battle first and foremost (yes, she had a few others but this was the one) and that was Adora. Everything that motivated her was surrounded around a narrative of surpassing Adora for a multitude of reasons, and because of that she pretty much hurts Adora every chance she gets after Promise. Adora is really Catra’s first casualty, it makes sense that she has to be her first apology. And I think that after being vibed checked back to back by DT and Glimmer and realizing “oh hey fuck, I’m still in love with her” and then almost dying just to not die because Adora saves her, I think much of Catra’s motivation shifts to “how to do I get Adora to want to stay?”
That’s my logic for how Betty could be a catradora song in canon. Now not all of my Taylor associations are with canon catradora, many of them do belong to uws catradora, because it’s a lot easier to apply the more modern details of Taylor’s songs to a modern au. The song Breathe is big that way. (it’s in Upper West Side, it’s the song Adora listens to and cries to after that first ride, I just never mentioned that it was taylor because my conditioned reaction to bringing up taylor is to have my head bit off with someone’s semi incorrect and slightly sexist opinion that I never, ever ask for) And this ask got me thinking about what it would look like if I applied not Catradora to Betty, but Betty to Catradora. What would it look like if Catra skateboarded and wore black lipstick, Adora wore a cardigan and they had homeroom together until Catra really messed up? What would it look like if they were seventeen when they admitted their feelings for each other instead of 21? What would it look like if they spent a summer fighting but dreaming of each other? What would their love story look like if Catra and Adora were in that town where Taylor envisioned this “same event that affected three people in different ways?”
I think it’d look something like this.

what do you guys think?
quick but INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT thank you to @gimme-tea-bitch for helping me with this, being my beta, and listening to me talk about folklore/evermore.

If you had to rank all the 14 ST characters in the main group from most to least fav what would your ranking look like? (And by main group i mean the characters including murray and erica, and excluding karen, basically everybody involved in the final battle in 3x08)
ok let me preface this by saying that i literally love all of these characters i don't hate any of them okay?? let's go... ascending order for the drama!!
14. murray. no explanation needed. no offense to brett gelman he's phenomenal and i honestly think murray is really funny, but he's more or less just a plot device with some comic relief slapped on top.
now things get spicy <3
13. erica. love her to death! but she's fairly one-dimensional, once again primarily a comic relief character. maybe in s4 she'll get some more depth like the older kids have, but for now she's sort of a default next-to-last :/
12. will... no tea no shade but the kid's barely in the show! i absolutely want good things for him but like. i barely even know him. yknow? he’s only above erica bc he’s gay and she’s a capitalist. also that scene in s1 right before he gets snatched by the demogorgon when he just runs straight to the shed and grabs a goddamn shotgun and loads it fully ready to defend himself... that shit slapped good for him!!
11. this Will be controversial among some and i Know this character is many people's favorite... if you follow me already this is probably not going to surprise you but. nancy. i just think her character is kind of inconsistent, so i have a hard time really clicking with her :/ sometimes i love her and i think she's so cool and funny and hot (that hospital scene in s3... my GOD what a badass!) and other times i would like to fistfight her.
also let me get this out of the way right now: i'm aware that jonathan's character is ALSO super inconsistent!! i know okay??? i know!!!! please nobody judge me for how high rat boy gets on this ranking okay i'm literally making this up as i go along so idk if he's next or if he's like in the top five but i have a disease called Unreasonably Invested In Wildly Speculative Meta-Analysis Of Stranger Things which makes it impossible for me to be normal about jonathan and this is my ranking so i pick the bad taste!!!
10. joyce! i love her bro she's MOM and she tries so fucking hard all the goddamn time and she's so STRONG and kind and adorable... joyce is honestly a very unique and refreshing character ESPECIALLY if you’re considering stranger things within the horror genre which is often defined by these very specific archetypes of mothers and motherhood that i can get into if anyone is interested but like basically. love her <3
9. dustin <3 what an icon... i love him i love how he straight up killed a man and hardly flinched because it was to protect his friends and i love how he and his little girlfriend have a song they sing together and i love how he either has an insanely warped perspective on things due to low self-esteem or he just sometimes flatout lies to gain sympathy either way he’s a BABY and he’s so FUNNY and KIND and even when he’s scared he keeps going... ugh god and i love how even when he doubts his friends’ devotion to him he NEVER ever questions his devotion to them and he never ever considers leaving them behind or not stepping up to help them... he’s so brave!
8. mike is such a fucking BITCH but even more than that he is an ANGEL... literally his range who is doing it like him??? nobody!!!! graffiti’d the bathroom stall at school... hates cops.... what a legend. also i like how fucking goofy and dumb his hair looks in s3. also he’s very soft with his friends and it makes me cry. ALSO he literally stepped off a fucking CLIFF he was ready to DIE FOR DUSTIN and i know all the kids have risked their lives for each other but this wasn’t even a monster yknow this was just... bullies.... threatening his friend..... and mike couldn’t fucking let it happen bro he was ready to just step off the edge to keep dustin safe and it’s SO MUCH... and god the kindness he showed el when they first met!!! he’s a total angel and a total shithead and it’s amazing.
7. lucas my tiny baby hero.... he’s so strong and cool and capable yet at the same time he’s such a COMPLETE dork!!! he very seriously believes his slingshot wrist rocket is a lethal weapon and then he ACTUALLY USES IT AS A LETHAL WEAPON TO SAVE HIMSELF AND HIS FRIENDS!!! he hacks off a giant monster’s freaky tentacle arm thing with an axe to save his friend AND he keeps a bunch of action figures and random dice on his bedside table bro he just thinks they’re neat!!! like... i genuinely love him so much god he cares so much about his friends and he’s so brave and smart and loving... i know he is not tiny anymore but he is my tiny baby hero okay...
6. hopper! big man care for little girl... protect and love kids... dance to dad music... be goofy and hot... have trauma.... admit his faults and attempt to grow from them.... what's not to love?
5. jonathan... look i can’t explain it except that he loves his goddamn baby brother so much and i’m a sucker with extensive headcanons alright!
4. el!!! feral little darling girl!!! i literally cannot articulate the love that floods my heart whenever i see her face or think about her for too long she’s just... so strong but more than that she’s so incredibly KIND!! when she has every reason to be selfish and cruel and yeah at times she does let herself get a little mean but on the whole she’s always so goddamn kind and loving and selfless no matter how afraid she is or how she’s hurting... and i hope that with her powers gone in s4 she’ll maybe learn how to see herself as more than a tool to protect those she loves yknow but that’s off topic skdncmn i just think that el is such an incredible character with such depth!! she can be so grave and mature yet she’s still such an innocent child at the same time, and i think that both the writing and mbb’s acting are handled such that both of these things WORK and feel real and they make el (and her trauma) so believable. i just love her to death.
3. robin, light of my lesbian little life!! unfortunately she's wayyy too much like me to snag the top spot lmao. maybe once we get another season with her she’ll trample the competition but for now my baby is in a solid third place <3 i’ve never seen a lesbian on screen who i felt so accurately represented me and my experiences!! she feels so real and in just one season she’s become one of my favorites on the whole show, and i cannot fucking wait to see what else we learn about her and what development we see from her in s4.
2. as u may have guessed... max!! i know i said this was my subjective opinion but here i’ll just say it: max is objectively one of the best characters on the show. she’s so strong and funny and quick on her feet while harboring some real pain and insecurity at the same time, and both of these aspects of her character are married perfectly, logically connecting to one another and joining with sadie’s incredible acting to create an amazing character who feels just... so real!! i absolutely adore her and i CONSTANTLY tear up just from thinking about her skdncmn...
1. what if my number one wasn't steve. like can y'all imagine???? if i just said like will or some shit???? genuinely i did consider giving max or robin top billing here but i just Can't i've dedicated too goddamn much of my life to steve harrington to deny that he's my one and only. is there anything to say that hasn't already been said? look at the bitch. just look at him.

Jonathan Byers (For your character questions Ask)
favorite thing about them
He’s incredibly caring and selfless to his family. He’s extremely devoted to Will and Joyce (frankly taking on more than such a young guy should have to). At 17 he’s discussing helping pay for his mom’s mortgage . Then of course, Jonathan is a surrogate dad to Will in a lot of respects. In s1 it’s cannon that he cooks breakfast for Will, wakes him up, drives him places, works extra shifts to pay the house bills. Gives Will coded pep-talks about his sexuality. And sometimes calls Will (coded fatherly nicknames that dads give their kids)- like “kid, buddy, pal, and sport”. He’s paralleled to all the ST mom’s taking pics of their kids in their ghost busters costumes, as well. I love Jonathan. He pretty much sacrificed his entire childhood to be the father figure for Will, that Lonnie wasn’t. He did all of this since he wanted Will to have more than he did (aka a Dad).Jonathan  in s1 even said in the past Joyce had “anxiety issues”. And tells Joyce, “This is not an okay time for you to shut down,” implying there has been times when she has shut down, and left him with the  burden of caring for Will and herself .  Joyce even apologizes in s1 for not being there for him as a kid ( cause she was too busy working). Many s4 movies emphasize Jonathan’s devotion to Will and knowledge that he sacrificed his childhood to do so .
Tumblr media
least favorite thing about them
He constantly think he’s inadequate and often refuses help. Calling himself a “weirdo”.  Not telling Joyce of the supernatural threat cause “she’s been through enough”. And constantly apologizing for not being there for Will- and blaming himself for what’s happened to him.

Like joyce said “you act like you’re all alone in this world. But you’re not!” And Bob reiterates his trust issues saying “I’m really getting through to them- well except Jonathan he’s a tough cookie to crack.” Murray also parrots this saying “trust issues, am I right? Something to do with your dad.”  Jonathan has severe trust issues and I hope he heals from that .

brOTP
Obviously - my brOTP is Jonathan and Will.
OTP
Don’t really have 1. I used to ship jancy (still wasn’t fond of the camera incident though). I like jonathan and nancy but after s3 I think they may be better off not together . I like both but I think maybe they’re not the best fit together.
nOTP
if we’re talking about popular st ships of him like Jancy and I guess... stoncy & steve/jon? I’m mostly indifferent. I feel like nOTP’s are more vitriolic.
But I just feel like Jancy isn’t right for each other, in the long run.Nancy only apologized for claiming Jon was sexist but not for making fun of him for being poor and his dad leaving -calling him “oliver twist” (a poor orphan). Which clearly pissed him off since when he talked to her on the phone later he did a clap back referencing the book saying he was with ‘Fagin and the gang’. Which is similar to Mike apologizing for being ‘jealous of Max’ but not for the fact he lied (the reason for the breakup in the first place). The fact Nancy says “here comes the Oliver Twist routine AGAIN”. Implies Jonathan has tried to open up to her in the past but she dismissed it as just bellyaching. I just can’t really get over that.  I don’t think either was completely in the right though. I talked about all the pairings (including jancy) and their parallels to other ships, in way more detail- here and why I don’t see them as endgame.
random headcanon
- Since Nancy says in s2  Jonathan likes reading Vonnegut. I think it may reflects a lot about Jonathan!
Vonnegut like Jonathan was born in Indiana- like jonathan. He was an atheist and a humanist and served as the honorary president of the American Humanist Association. Some quotes by him:  “I am a humanist, which means, in part, that I have tried to behave decently without expectations of rewards or punishments after I am dead...  purpose of human life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love whoever is around to be loved.”
A lot of his books critique society in a scifi form.
- In Breakfast of Champions (1973), Vonnegut vows to “clear [his] head of all the junk,” and race and racism are at the top of his list of “junk” to be cleared.  In the book he critiques colonialism, and institutional and social racism predominantly focusing on the mistreatment of black people. “I think I am trying to clear my head of all the junk in there...I suspect that this is something most white Americans, and nonwhite Americans who imitate white Americans, should do. The things other people have put into my head, at any rate, do not fit together nicely, are often useless and ugly, are out of proportion with one another, are out of proportion with life as it really is outside my head.”
-  Slaughter house 5 (1972) was based on his own experiences as a  ww2 soldier. “It sees war as a tragedy so great that perhaps only the mask of comedy allows one to look it in the eye. Vonnegut is a sad-faced comedian.  The book says Billy may be hallucinating about his experiences with the Tralfamadorians as a way to escape a world destroyed by war—a world that he cannot understand ( heavy Will foreshadowing). Even while Vonnegut admits the inevitability of death, with or without war, he also tells us that he has instructed his sons not to participate in massacres or in the manufacture of machinery used to carry them out”. The phrase “so it goes” represented the deep sadness and resignation to death- appearing with almost every death in the novel. This phrase become a popular mantra in the Anti-vietnam war movement.Mr. Vonnegut wrote at the end of the book, “was shot two nights ago. He died last night. So it goes. Martin Luther King was shot a month ago. He died, too. So it goes. And every day my Government gives me a count of corpses created by military science in Vietnam. So it goes.”
- In a letter from 1965, he also recommended a novel to his wife. ‘here is a really lovely book about it in my study -- on a top shelf. It's red, and it's called The ABZ of Love." “Indeed, the book was in many ways ahead of its time and of the era's mainstream, pushing hard against bigotry and advocating for racial, gender, and LGBT equality with equal parts earnestness and wry wit.”
-his novels also had a lot of gay characters and this caused a lot of controversy at the time.
Reflecting  how he’ll probably be supportive of Will-  which was foreshadowed in s1 when he was encouraging Will not to behave a certain way cause his homophobic dad wants him to.
unpopular opinion
probably Jancy not being endgame
song i associate with them
-’should I stay or should i go’ . obvious cliche choice, i know.
favorite picture of them
Hmm... I’m not sure. I just find Jonathan & will exchanging looks with each other and laughing precious.

RATE THE EPISODE 130 Responses
Tumblr media
And we’re back! An explosive premiere brings the series back. The vast majority seemed to enjoy the episode, with only 2.3% of folks giving it a score below a 3.
I thought some of the directing in the action scenes was odd and the music didn’t feel as well integrated/utilized as in past seasons.
If this season is consistently as good as this first episode, AOT will indeed end as a perfect masterpiece
ARE YOU HAPPY ABOUT THE CHANGE FROM WIT STUDIO TO MAPPA? 127 Responses
Tumblr media
The Studio change from WIT Studio to MAPPA was a subject of much scrutiny and debate before the season’s release. With almost 61% showing some form of enthusiasm about a new studio’s take on the series. The opinion is not uniform, of course, with just over 18% stating their preference for WIT studio. Slightly less (17.3%) can’t give an answer yet and the rest don’t seem to care at all.
I wished MAPPA would make the latter episodes a little more vibrant and lessen the blur
mappa as some of my favorite shows (banana fish, yuri on ice, etc) so it was kinda cool to see they picked up AOT szn 4 ! i’m excitedly waiting to watch the next episode, (and with my ‘watch partner’ aka tumblr friend who discusses with me as we watch LOL).
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE CGI TITANS? 127 Responses
Tumblr media
If there’s one thing that’s rather controversial about the series’ animation adaptation, then it’s certainly the use of CGI (particularly when animating Titans). The opinion of the fanbase seems to be rather positive, nonetheless. 72.4% of responders gave the CGI some praise (be it more open or more reserved), while 18.2% were more negative about the use of CGI. At the bottom was 9.4% who stated that they preferred WIT’s style of CGI to the one utilized in the episode.
cgi wasn't bad but I was disappointed that it wasn't the 2d animation from the trailer
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE NEW OPENING? 128 Responses
Tumblr media
When it came to the season’s opening, there was a positive response, with more than 72% expressing a favorable opinion. 21.1% didn’t seem to care for it and about 6% stated that they thoroughly disliked it.
OP is WAY too overrated, nowhere near as good as the original, too much glorification of the kind of nationalism that led to Nazi germany's rise to power
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE NEW ENDING? 130 Responses
Tumblr media
The new ending received very similar scores, with a similar figure of more than 72% expressing a positive view of the ending and a little over a quarter not caring for it. The proportion disliking it was much lower however, with only 2.3% of folks expressing those thoughts.
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE 4 YEAR TIME SKIP? 126 Responses
Tumblr media
One of the grandest developments that came about in this episode is the fact that a 4 year time skip has occurred since the defeat of the Warriors in Shiganshina. Although there is a sizable minority expressing negative feelings (13.5%), the definitive majority is coming in with enthusiasm (70.6%). The rest are still thinking this change over.
wtf is going on? Who are these new people? Why are we supposed to care about them if they're from Marley? Where are the main characters? Yeah, I suppose Reiner and Zeke technically count as MCs, but there is an appalling lack of 104th characters that needs to be fixed asap!
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE SETTING CHANGE? 125 Responses
Tumblr media
In a similar vein, a remarkable new development is a change of setting. The majority (almost 61%) see it in a positive light, while 16% seem to dislike it. Just over 19% aren’t certain yet.
After what Reiner and co. did, I am not at all interested in their side of the story and just want Eren and co. to completely decimate these people
Fun to meet new characters but I'm eager to know whats going on with the characters we know
It feels a little disorienting but it's a logical progression of the story
Strange
Wouldnt mind the change of setting if we at least had it from the 104th's perspective
I wasn’t expecting it to be so focused on new characters, and I was disappointed at first but I’m indifferent now.
Not liking the new perspective. At least for this new batch of kids. If Reiner and Zeke are going to be a major focus for a while, wouldn't a short series of flashbacks for their pasta work better than a completely new spin-off from the main story?
WHICH NEW CHARACTER IS YOUR FAVORITE SO FAR? 125 Responses
Tumblr media
As this episode introduced a lot of new characters, we got a colorful pie chart for this one. The plurality of responses (40%) chose the kind-hearted Falco, while 28% went with passionate Gabi. 14.4% chose the caring Colt and 13.6% went with the cool Jaw Titan holder. The last couple of responses picked out the stoic General Magath and the quiet Zofia. Poor Udo didn’t get a single vote!
I loved it. I love the new art style, my favorite scene was Gabi destroying the train, she's awesome. I really love Falco as well and Colt. Galliard's titan design is sick
I literally don't give a shit about these new kids, I don't care about their story, just bring back EMA and the 104th already!
WHO DO YOU THINK WILL INHERIT THE ARMORED TITAN? 125 Responses
Tumblr media
Another colorful pie chart! An almost even split for the (possible) future inheritor of the Armored Titan. 37.6% believe Falco will take it, while 27.2% went with Gabi. 33.6% do not see any of the cadets inheriting Reiner’s titan and the last couple of votes went ahead to Zofia instead.
WHO HAD THE BETTER GLOW UP? 127 Responses
Tumblr media
When drawing comparison to Reiner and Zeke’s looks in the previous season, there was a clear favorite among the responses - Reiner, with 74%. Zeke had the preference of 15% and those who didn’t feel like either of them “went through a glow up” took 11%.
can we acknowledge how good zeke, reiner, and [redacted] looked 😌🥰
REINER PLEASE FUCK ME
WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THE JAW TITAN? 126 Responses
Tumblr media
New season, new setting, new titan! The vast majority of viewers seem hyped about the Jaw Titan and find its design really cool. 15.9% aren’t as thrilled about it, and 9.5% haven’t decided yet. Most of the write-in comments implied a connection with the Jaw Titan. But for the purpose of avoiding spoiling those who haven’t drawn the same conclusion, we won’t be publishing them. Just know we see you. ;)
i was lowkey scared lmao
CART TITAN - BETTER WITH ARMOR OR WITHOUT? 127 Responses
Tumblr media
We are reunited with the eerie Cart Titan from S3, but this time flexing cool armor and machine guns on its back! The overwhelming majority of respondents prefer it better tricked out in its armor, over a small minority who appreciate its natural creepiness more.
MOST OF THE EPISODE FOCUSES ON GABI. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT HER? 124 Responses
Tumblr media
Gabi appears to be a point of controversy among anime viewers already, with 38.7% viewing her favorably, 37.9% viewing her less favorably, and 16.9% not sure how to feel about her yet. Some comments feel she is similar to Eren in some ways, while others found her annoying. And yes, she did break international law. :P
Eren, but smol and female xD
I hate her already
I think she’s awesome
She's like Eren was
she passionately creepy but i like her lol
shes annoying
Gabi is SO annoying istfg really hope Falco gets more focus than Gabi, he seems nicer and more relatable
FALCO MENTIONED SOMETHING ABOUT “FLYING AROUND WITH A SWORD” AND “ATTACKING TITANS.” WHAT DO YOU MAKE OF THAT? 126 Responses
Tumblr media
Overall, no one seems to know what’s going on, though many are theorizing that this is related to the paths, titan powers/memory transfer, or Eren somehow. What could this mean for the future of Falco’s character?
Dig at anime viewers returning to S4
He saw the memories of a survey corps member
I have a couple theories, regarding the memories that intelligent Titans share back and forth
maybe he had one of those flashback/forward things that erens dad had
WHO DO YOU THINK WAS BUYING THE NEWSPAPER AT THE END? 126 Responses
Tumblr media
Nearly 90% of respondents are certain that this mystery character is someone we know, while just a small handful of people believe it’s someone new, and about the same amount not ready to make a call one way or the other yet. Some write-ins on the poll had guessed specifically who the character may be already. But we won’t spoil you just yet. 👀
The end credits guy is definitely someone we know, but I highly doubt it's Eren
The sharp-looking dude at the end just HAS to be someone we know on Paradis, there's no way they'd just throw us in to this new cast of nobodies without some connection to the main characters
WHAT DID YOU THINK OF ELDIANS BEING USED AS WAR FODDER? 126 Responses
Tumblr media
The treatment of Eldians on the mainland is something that the majority of respondents see as detestable, with 87.3% finding the use of them as war fodder to be downright cruel. A smaller amount of people either felt it was a necessary evil, or didn’t feel strongly about it one way or the other.
Literally waiting for the 104th to show up and fuck shit up for these inhumane monsters
That's what happens in the real world. The persecuted minority gets used as war fodder.
i d k 👀
DO YOU THINK IT’S POSSIBLE FOR RELATIONS BETWEEN ELDIANS AND MARLEYANS TO IMPROVE? 123 Responses
Tumblr media
Colorful opinions mean more colorful pie charts! Most viewers feel that there is no way for the relations between Eldians and Marleyans to improve (30.1%) or that relations will never improve, with the exception of a rare few who are sympathetic to Eldians (22.8%). A smaller amount (totalling 32.5%) feel that it’s possible for things to improve whether it be due to a change in Marleyan leadership or due to the two sides having to come together for the greater good. 14.6% of respondents stand in the middle ground, unsure of whether relations can improve or not.
ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS ON THE EPISODE?
Honestly at first it was very confusing but overall I enjoyed it
So when do we get to see the 104th again?
I figured there would be more modern technology involved in the story, but I'm not a fan at all of the direction it's going so far. Makes me worried the ultimate basement reveal was the peak of AoT's greatness.
it was action filled!!! although i was sad so see that there are 16 episodes n not like 24(i think), it means every episode is gonna deliver!!! off to a great start, op and ed are amazing. renier had a nice glow up and JEAN WAS THAT U AT THE END?? yessir!!! beast titan looked ugly asf but when was he not ugly?? LOL
Idk wtf that opening was but I kinda like the ending. Falco seems like a good kid. I just REALLY hope he doesn't end up doing anything to hurt the protagonists (I fully expect Gabi to, she's already a violent ax-crazy kid)
just give me some Armin
WHERE. IS. EREN?

I'm going to bring out a controversial ask. What are your thoughts on Chat's behaviour in Copycat? I have seen so many salters absolutely wreck the boy for that episode, especially for his last line about being heartbroken. Was what he did wrong? Completely. But I'm pretty sure he knows that. He never acted upon it again and defiently improved since then.
(Not gonna lie, Copycat was one of my favorite episodes during S1, haha)
Honestly, Ladybug herself wrecked him twice in front of him in that episode.
First, with this statement
LB : Chat Noir may annoy me to pieces, but he's never lied to me.  CN : Thanks for the compliment... I think.
LB’s line is slightly different in the French dub. She points out “Chat Noir has a ton of flaws”. Still, goal is the same, even if she praises him for not being a liar, the first part hurt his ego there because it is what LB thinks of him. That he is not great. Decent, but not great.
Then we got this line a bit later.
CN : I’m so glad you could tell the real cat from the fake one. LB : Once I’ve figured out which Chat was really in love with me, it was a no brainer.
Here, CN understands that LB thinks he is joking about his feelings.
Throughout S1, LB is unaware of CN’s romantic feelings for her are genuine. Ever since Stoneheart part 2, she considers CN to be a jokester, so she interprets his flirting attempts , his charming attitude and the little nicknames he gives her as casual bantering. In other words, she doesn’t take him seriously.
So yeah, coming from his crush, this is bound to heartbreak him and he is just mentionning the obvious to himself and the audience. But I don’t think this was made to pity him but rather to show the consequences of his actions. That LB won’t love him for being jealous. And the episode never depicted Chat Noir as a winner after his display of jealousy.
I mean, when we watch the episode, we follow CN’s POV, yes, but his actions during that episode are never glorified or rewarded. Instead, Chat Noir is the butt of the joke. The Akumatized personifies him, makes him look like a bad individual and ridicules him. The police doesn’t believe CN and lock him down. Plagg’s comment about Adrien’s jealousy was on point. Chat Noir got trapped and outwitted and was unable to defeat the Akuma by himself like he intended. And finally, LB made some remarks about CN that annoyed/hurt him but were true.
Honestly, everything was against Chat Noir there because of his actions (I loved the episode for that).
Should CN have verbally apologized to Théo about lying to him and for being jealous? Of course! Would he had done so if LB wasn’t there? Who knows. However, LB was present and it was an important variable in the equation.
Should CN have told LB the truth instead of concealing it? Yes, but that he not what CN wanted. He sure didn’t let her know what happened when he called her when infiltrating Théo’s workshop.
LB : Chat Noir, where are you? CN : I’ve found his den. LB : Who? CN : My copycat. LB : I’m not getting you. CN : If you have been there this morning, you would know what I’m talking about. LB : Well, tell me where you are? CN : No. This is between me and him. I got myself into this mess, so now I’m going to get myself out.
Anyway later, during the battle against Copycat, LB stated she doesn’t like liars. And what did CN do earlier? Lie to Théo. And to complicate the matter, LB is oblivious about CN’s romantic feelings for her. Chat Noir already lost there and prefered to leave ASAP that telling her he got jealous. That doesn’t justify his actions but I can understand why he prefered to avoid the subject. Since he was about to detransform, he used it as an excuse and leaves, the tail between his legs, saving what he can. This is the consequences of his jealousy and he learned his lesson. If he wants LB to love him one day, he needs to not act jealously from now on. Otherwise, he is no better than his copycat.
Again, taking his leave without explaining what actually happened is not the most mature reaction (not to mention LB didn’t demand him to explain himself), but it is not the worst either. Imagine if he had left the scene as a sore loser fueled with angst against LB and/or Théo?
Tumblr media
Here, he is just sad and mentions that both Théo and him have in common there. Only, he doesn’t get to be cheer up by LB.
Now, another rant some had with the episode is that CN made LB believed Copycat was her fault.
One thing to note though is that LB did miss the statue inauguration. She was supposed to be there. It was an engagement she took because everyone expected her to show up -- along with CN -- and waited for her. And it was important for Théo that LB was present at the unveiling because he wanted her to sign the picture he used as inspiration for his sculpture. He even plead the Mayor to wait a few more minutes, hoping LB would finally come. However, unbestknown to him, it was more important for LB to erase the embarrassing voicemail she had accidently left to her crush that taking part of an official ceremony she said she would be present to. And her absence did wound Théo as Hakwmoth pointed out :
“Disappointed by Ladybug and jealous of Chat Noir, the perfect formula for disaster”.
But like their whole phone discussion informed us, Chat Noir isn’t blaming her for his actions. If she had been there, she would have witnessed what happened, yes, but he also admits this mess was his fault. Thus why he was so adamant to solve things by himself and didn’t want LB to get involved. And LB sure didn’t wanted to talk about what emergency hold her and never demanded an explaination from Chat. So both avoid talking about what happened that morning and sweep it under the rug for different reasons.
The “his crush just got crushed” line is not Chat Noir made-up excuse either. It is still true as LB did break Théo’s heart for not being there at the unveiling ceremony of the statue he has worked so hard on. Thus why she apologized, signed the picture and complimented his work. She is not taking the blame for the Akumatization here. She is only apologizing because she has missed the ceremony she was supposed to attend. Nothing more.
If anything, Chat Noir displayed some empathy to Théo and gave him an occasion to have a few private minutes with LB. Which is definitively better than CN’s jealous reaction of keeping Théo away from LB from the beginning.
It is not a verbal apology from Chat, but this occasion obviously meant a lot to Théo even if the gesture is small. And Chat Noir is not rewarded or thanked for it because this should have been done from the beginning instead of letting his jealousy kick in.
Now, people can dislike the episode or disagree with that ending, saying it wasn’t satisfying enough for them. It’s their opinion. The morale of that part of the episode clearly shows that letting your jealousy get the better of you doesn’t make you a winner. Did they wanted more angst? Did they wanted Chat Noir to suffer even more for being immature and making a mistake by letting his emotion get the best of him? Should the show have expanded and explored on that venue on his character? Maybe for that last point. After all, they sure did so with Marinette afterwards like in Volpina, Animaestro or Ikari Gozen for example. And I know they are fans who are tired of romantic jealousy / envy interfering during a part of an episode. Because we -- older audiences -- already know that acting while motivated by such feelings is not romantic. That jealousy ain’t cute and can hurt other.
However, I don’t know what to say if there are people still mad over how a character acted during one episode that aired ages ago as we are currently waiting for S4. Not to mention Chat Noir is finally moving on from his crush on LB as shown during the S3 finale. The character is not at the same place anymore in his development. Like you can keep a character actions and reactions in mind as they might ressurface under different contexts in order to compare and note if there was a change. But aside of that? What use is there to be still mad? That, I will never understand I’m afraid =/

☕ the time has come, you are now obligated by the government to ramble about slayers, you have no choice
Oh goddamn it Kateh, Okay you asked for this! you literally won’t get like HALF the shit I'm saying but here I go, you fucking ASKED for this.
Okay, I’m a baby to this fandom, I just got into this series as a way to cope during quarantine but fuck me, is it just... everything I WANT in a fantasy anime? Just fun adventure, no harem/isekai bullshit.Just good ole fantasy adventures with a bit of humor to spice it up.
So far I have only watched like 4 of the 5 main series, two of the novels and one OVA set and the movie but here are my takes.
It’s been a long ass time since I saw the first season and I DO remember it having a lot of fun shit but also I feel it really... took a while for the show to come together? Like I get it its about Lina just MEETING all these fuckers, but damn was some of the filler just... like ‘okay cool when are these characters going to actually start working as a team?” Which is just me being impatient my favorite fucking character wasn’t a mainstay yet. But yeah I can have shallow opinions fuck it.
Season 2 (Next) was the BEST one and I know that's not controversial but its when all the stuff REALLY did come together. Like all the characters really came into their own and the story was really starting to feel fun and like I was watching one of those funny dnd comedy podcasts but with anime and it felts sooo good.
Try (Season 3) I see people either ADORE or strongly dislike... but me I'm on the ADORE side. Like Its just a really fun and just as intense season! Like I really love Filia so much her development is SO fucking good, just mmm god she just went from pretty self-righteous and just blindly following her temples ways but immediately recounts that shit when she learns how those fuckers committed goddamn genocide. Seriously fuck Golden Dragons they suck.
As for characters? I fucking love all of them tho I do have some hot takes.
Love Lina... I get she’s the main character but at times I feel she’s a BIT bit bit overrated? I’m probably gonna be killed by this statement like I get its HER show, but shit man, sometimes you watch Naruto and your fave just happens to be Rock Lee. That being said she’s the perfect protagonist for this show! She’s selfish and awful and yet still somehow has a heart of gold under it all! Like ah man She’s one of the most fun protagonists for a show that seems like its geared for male audiences I’ve seen since like.. Soul Eater.
Gourry is just a good ole himbo, and I feel he has a lot more depth to him than the series gives him credit. They flanderize him by S4 and its really sad, like yeah the dude isn’t SMART but his backstory with his family basically ruining itself all to inherit a magic sword is really fucking sad. Also, he is the quintessential emotional support himbo for Lina.
Zelgadis is the best character, don’t @ me. Just I love angsty bitches who are taken seriously but not TOO seriously, Like his backstory is fucked up and sad, but the show doesn’t shy away from showing he can be a fucking jackass, and poking fun at him. Also, he has a hella character design, I love ‘monstery’ looking people in general though and I tend to vibe with designs like that so :) yeah.
Amelia, after watching the show I fucking LOVE her, she’s extra and just doing her best and gets some great development but fuck if she wasn’t kinda fucking annoying in S1, like I get it was the point, she was a naive, sheltered princess who wanted to just fight for LOVE AND JUSTICE but had really black and white views on what that was but. God... I remember just getting so annoyed with her S1, By S2 though she is legit on of my favorite characters, she’s just the kinda character I vibe with, the seemingly airheaded ‘good girl’ in a cast of characters who are mostly selfish jaded bitches :).
Xellos is a fuckin bastard and I adore him, my hot take is he reminds me of Colin Robinson from What We Do in the Shadows and I legit would wanna hear him just try to get the cast to say ‘What's up Dog’ by constantly saying how he feels the situation needs more ‘updog’ Oh god also, just he legit evil and I KNOW he is a threat, but memeing on him is just too much fun. Like yes, he is a threat blah blah blah, haha he reminds me of the funny bald vampire man :). Season 4 nerfed his eyebrows... that was fucking evil.
Filia Oh gossssh I love her, she’s like a fucking dragon mom and Legit if I saw Slayers before I made some of my OCS she’d really be a big inspiration for Flann, Hell she still can be! Just I love female characters who are just a BIT awful but also still good people? Like I love her she is a dragon mom.
The rest of the cast is great I tend to like all the villains and I will spare you thoughts on S4 and 5 (haven’t finished them but so far :T I'm not loving them as much.) and shit about the OVAs.
GOD THANK YOU KATEH I AM SORRY YOUR GOING TO BE SO CONFUSED.

December 10: Endings
The posts that have been going around about all these bad, nonsensical, random tv endings we’ve been seeing recently (GOT, T100, SPN), have made me think about what makes a good television ending in my opinion.
I admit that concluding a series is probably quite tricky because most shows, if they’re not miniseries, are conceived without a known end point in mind. A show runner can build an idea around a 5-season arc, but he might not actually get 5 seasons. He might only get 1. Or he might get 10, if the show is popular. So unlike a movie or a novel, the first episodes need to set up a general premise, a universe, a theme, but not necessarily a specific plot with X number of specific plot points leading to a pre-ordained conclusion. There has to be a flexibility to the narrative. But when the whole thing is completed, it should feel, ideally, as if it WAS pre-ordained, as if the show was always meant to have as many seasons as it got and was working toward its conclusion the whole time.
So, roughly, I think shows that stick the landing do so because the showrunner knows what the show is, at its core, about, and crafts a finale that relates to the central theme(s) and brings the main narrative to a logical and emotionally resonant conclusion.
This is very rough and very general, and it’s a formula that applies more to some shows than others. TV is incredibly varied after all. I mean, first off, not all shows know their last season is their last season going in. You can’t judge the final episodes of, to use two examples of shows I liked that were unceremoniously axed recently, The Society or Altered Carbon as “finale episodes” because they were never meant to be finales. Then you have a show like My So-Called Life, which does have a Classic ending, despite ending all too soon--mostly because every episode of that show was classic, and it only had one season, so its season finale being a fitting ending to the season automatically means its series finale was a fitting ending to the series.
(It’s such an outlier that I can’t really compare it to anything but honestly--this is how to do an open-ended cliffhanger and still make it feel like a conclusion. But that’s a whole different post.)
My formula above also doesn’t apply well to sitcoms, because they aren’t really about anything, in terms of plot. Like the name says, they set up situations: a group of people who are family, co-workers, friends, and then lets those situations play out in a funny manner for as long as there are jokes to tell. Sitcoms to me end well if they don’t overstay their welcome, if they remain true to the characters (because it’s the characters, not the minimal narrative, that defines the show), and if they hit an appropriate ‘ending’ tone. But the biggest thing for me is if the sitcom went on for too many seasons. Even if the final episode isn’t the greatest, it’s fine. But if the last 2-4 seasons were lackluster, it tarnishes the whole legacy.
‘Procedural’ type shows are yet another category, and I’m not entirely sure how to characterize those, or what makes a strong ending for that sub-genre. I’m using ‘procedural’ broadly to include, like, Bad Guy of the Week type shows--for example, Charmed, which I thought should have ended after S7. Again, I think it’s about not letting the whole thing go on too long, and then staying true to characters and tone in the finale itself.
So looking just at dramas that have a season’s warning before their finale--which, really, are the type of shows that are most likely to make people ANGRY with shitty endings, because they lure the viewer in with the idea that a singular, coherent story is being told. Maybe it’s convoluted. Maybe it’s winding. Maybe it’s hard to tell where they’re going with this. But if it all comes together in the end, none of that matters--and if it doesn’t come together, what was the point of all the seasons that came before? It becomes, retroactively, a betrayal.
The more plot-driven the show (if it has a mystery, a conspiracy theory, a quest), the greater the betrayal if all fizzles out. But I think the same feeling can arise from shoddy conclusions in dramas more generally. The L Word is one of my comfort shows but that last season is a MESS all the way down, the finale especially. There definitely wasn’t a point to anything, and it wasn’t even entertaining as, like, a dramatic soap.
But then I think about shows whose endings I really liked. For example, Six Feet Under had a great final season and one of the best finale episodes/ending sequences ever. The show up to that point had been about death, and that theme had always been centered most particularly on Nate: his fears of the family business, his previous brushes with death because of his AVM, etc. So of course the show had to end by killing one of its mains, coming full circle with the pilot, showing real grief hitting home--and of course Nate’s personal journey as the main character had to end with his death. Everything about the conclusion was fitting, not even counting the final montage.
I also really liked the conclusion of Big Love, for similar reasons: it was thoughtful, and it successfully teased out the main strands, both of plot and theme, that had run through the show up to that point. The most important thing had always been depicting this family, their problems but also their strength and their love for each other--so, as the showrunners said, it had to conclude by showing you that the family survives. They are strong, and their bonds endure. But the ending was, and had to be, bittersweet too, because anything less would seem to sweep under the rug the real tragedies of the last seasons. Not everyone gets happy endings. And the unhappy endings relate specifically to the toxic patriarchy that’s haunted all of the characters from the pilot. Alby has a chance to turn away from his father and the compound life--but the forces arrayed against him were too strong, so there was no deus ex machina for him, and he ultimately just became fully the evil villain. And Bill is taken out not by the state or by the compound but by an aggrieved man who feels he’s been emasculated, forgotten, who is raging against being so Unseen. What a way to make clear what the common denominator in all of the threats of the past 5 seasons has been.
I also give major points to shows whose finales feel like they’re trying, even if they’re imperfect, especially if the imperfections are because of factors outside the showrunner’s control. For example, I saw someone list Dollhouse as one of their ‘worst endings’ but I have to disagree. I like the ending of Dollhouse. It wasn’t supposed to be 2 seasons. That’s well known. But that’s how many seasons it got, and I think honestly they turned that into a plus rather than a minus. Dollhouse was its best when it was rushing to a conclusion, when it was fast-paced and exciting. Did it always make complete sense? No. Were there some pretty big holes in the plot? Yeah--S2′s Big Bad was absolutely and transparently a retcon instituted between S1 and S2 and I get that, and I forgive the show for that. I thought bifurcating the epilogue as two extra episodes after each of the two seasons was genius, and I liked that it allowed the show to have its cake and eat it too: a happy ending, with the main, immediate, singular Big Bad eliminated, at the end of S2, and a more bittersweet, more complicated, post-apoc ending in the bonus episode. Yeah, I can see the seams; I know there were a lot of constructed work arounds in there because the show was intended to be longer. I think the ending was presented in good faith.
I also, perhaps controversially, liked the ending of Veronica Mars (the original 3-season show; I didn’t see the reboot). The way the season aired was weird and didn’t do it any favors: having a long break before the last couple of episodes, which existed outside of the two Big Case arcs of S3, makes those final stories feel tacked on and random. Basically impossible to have a strong finish with that kind of structure. But the very end of the last ep had the bitter, dark feel of a noir, which is what the show was, a mash up of a noir and a high school drama. I liked that they leaned on the noir rather than the high school aspect, because it was the more creative way to go imo. Also, I appreciated that S3, in general, learned from S2′s mistakes. Yes, the college years are always going to be lackluster compared to high school, in any series that starts with its characters in high school. But VM recognized that no overarching mystery was going to compare to the Lilly Kane murder, so it split the Big Mystery into two Medium Sized mysteries, and I thought that was smart. All of which makes me inclined to think fondly of the conclusion. As with Dollhouse, its weakest points seem to be compromises it had to make, not really its fault but just an inevitable imperfection of the form.
It’s pretty easy to list aspects of a bad ending: a sense that events are arbitrary, a disrespect of characters, a rushed construction, a jarring tone, and most importantly a disconnect between the finale and what came before. If the show appeared to be a narrative (as opposed to a situation), but it doesn’t feel like a complete and coherent whole at the end, then the conclusion was bad.
I didn’t watch GOT or SPN and I stopped watching T100 at the end of S4 (though I do feel confident from tumblr that the ending was Bad), so I have somewhat of a hard time thinking of shows that I thought had really bad endings. I can think of dissatisfying endings that came from shows being cancelled without warning. I can think of shows that lasted too long in general or otherwise had fallen from their greatest heights by the time they limped to a conclusion (unpopular opinion: Friends fits in this category--that show should have been 4 seasons, maybe 5 tops; Boy Meets World and Dawson’s Creek are comfort show favorites of mine but they both should have ended with high school, like, pretty objectively speaking; iZombie started a slow downturn after S2 and by the end of S4 was kinda unwatchable. I literally stopped halfway through the finale.). I can even think of shows that lost me by the end even though objectively they probably had good endings (for example, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend--I couldn’t get through S4 and the finale sounded... technically well-constructed but like it would have driven me nuts).
But then I guess most shows with shitty finales technically had shitty last seasons in general. Truly notorious crash-and-burns don’t come out of nowhere. I mean I’m sure there are counter-examples to this (what’s that one with the kid and the snow globe lol?) but unless you try for a weird last-minute twist, or unless you’ve got your audience hoping against hope that an impossibly twisty story is actually very smart instead of very ill-planned, it’s generally clear before the last episode if a narrative has lost its way. I don’t tend to watch a lot of ‘twisty-turny conspiracy’ shows, and when I do I am supremely skeptical all the way through, so it’s hard for me to think of examples I’ve personally watched of a last minute “what the fuck was that” conclusion.

Lee thompkins
(Getting more controversial with this one)
Why I like them:
She wants to help people, and will throw herself into it, doing whatever it takes. It got a bit messy at times, but I liked all the Lee in the Narrows stuff, setting up not just her place there from the comics, but that she wants to help, and is willing to do so outside the normal channels.
Why I don’t:
She can be selfish, manipulative, possessive, and controlling (uh, see below for some expansion on that when it comes to Jim). And I can never really forget how she gave exactly 0 fucks that Galavan had Bruce. All she cared about was that Jim was staying.
Favorite episode (scene if movie):
It’s spread over a couple of eps, but her early days in the Narrows.
Favorite season/movie:
Season 1
Favorite line:
“I may have a virus making me freakishly strong and mildly insane, but even I know that you were a sidekick to your brother and you’re a sidekick to Barbara.”
Favorite outfit:
Pretty much anything from S4.
OTP:
Jim/Lee, but only for season 1 and the second half of season 5. I am, controversially, somewhat partial to Ed/Lee too.
Brotp:
Lee and Alfred. Or even Lee and Ed as partners in crime.
Head Canon:
Works out Bruce is Batman before Jim can tell her.
Unpopular opinion:
Okay. Lee treated Jim terribly for much of the show. Like sure, Jim has his issues, the breakdown of their relationship had a lot to do with him (but really mostly to do with Ed, because of the whole framing for murder and Jim then being a cop in prison surrounded by people he put away thing), but even before that, and certainly after, Lee pulls some shit.
She can be controlling and selfish. She blames Jim for things that aren’t his fault, or aren’t by his choice. She criticises and even lashes out when Jim chooses anything over her, whether it’s his job, or even saving Bruce’s life. She tells a suicidal Jim, who is her patient at the time, that he's full of anger and regret and that he made her miserable (with no acknowledgement of what it was like for him to loose their child as well). She spends most of that season still chasing after Jim, circling around his life, pushing for confirmation that he still wants her, while engaged to Mario, which would be fine (in a characterisation/plot sense) but she also lashes out at Jim for it, even as Jim is the one keeping his distance. She throws Jim under the bus with Sofia in season 4 without prompting (and in fact spends most of that season strangely cold and cruel towards him, for no clear reason), she hits him when Barbara gets pregnant, even though they were very much not together, and the last time they saw each other before that, she was still giving the impression that she was with Ed.
Lee, while infected with the virus, is very much “love me Jim, and be exactly what I want you to be, or I’ll kill you” and while that is certainly twisted and heightened by the virus, and she’s not in control, hints of those specific ideas can absolutely be found in her prior treatment of Jim. Little things like twisting the blame in situations onto him, pressuring him into things and ignoring his boundaries and wants, ignoring him when he’s looking for comfort or reassurance, calling him sick, belittling his strive to make a difference, things like that.
Season 1 Lee is quite different from seasons 2-4 Lee. Early Lee was open in her interest in the dark and macabre. She loved and admired Jim for his dedication not just to his job, but to helping people. End of that season she encourages Jim to pursue the Ogre, because it’s what’s right. But after that, all those things she said she loved, she now hates, she now criticises Jim for. End of season 5 Lee/future Lee seems closer to early Lee, and their dynamic seems much healthier, which reminds me of how much I liked them to begin with, which is why I enjoy them there. Everything that came in between was a mess though.
A wish:
I wouldn’t mind her and Jim getting amicably divorced at some point after the finale. Alternatively, if the writers had wanted to get Jim and Lee back together, Babs should have been her daughter, rather than dragging Barbara back into it and then wasting most of the season on pointless ‘running away with the baby’ drama.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen:
Again, death.
5 words to best describe them:
Driven, ambitious, cunning, loving, clever.
My nickname for them:
Season 4 Lee is my Goth Wife

Top 5 Episodes
Pilot, Fugue, Deguello, Icarus, Pylon... maybe just for garden scene. Yes I skipped all the typical s3 ones everyone loves. Those are overexposed I’m such a hipster *pushes up glasses*
Seasons in Order of Preference (or tops)
S6, S3, S2, S5, S1, S4, S7   - Season 6 hit it out of the park for me with 1) solid episode themes and aesthetics  2) overarching plot handled so well  3) very solid well done character development. I looove the wild eps of S3 and S2 but I think the lighting and aesthetics and plot of S5 also were so so solid. Those early season finales were soooooo good too. S4 finale was ultimately weak though. S7 really didn’t do it for me.
Favorite Scene(s)
Garden Scene in Pylon!! Fugue Rooftop Scene. Max & Morse do shots-stitch up scene in Fugue. Max & Morse talking in Nocturne. Thursday covering Morse with his coat in Fugue. Thursday & Bright talking in Apollo (i think?). Any Max & Morse scene in Confection. Mr. Bright & Max in Confection. Box & Thursday exchanging the money envelope. The entire ending of Deguello. Max & Jim screaming at Morse & Thursday in S7.
Favorite Musical Piece or Moment
I really enjoy the times that the contemporary popular music seeps in, esp the rock - the Rolling Stones and Black Sabbath etc. That’s what I was raised on. I originally hated the opening of Canticle, i genuinely would skip the song if I could, but it’s grown on me. I love anytime we get to see Morse singing with the choir (something largely ignored I think in more recent seasons but we know he continues through his life) and I’m amazed they wrote their own opera for S7. Very rad.
Favorite Cinematography/Imagery (season, ep, whatever)
The themes in Fugue and Nocturne kinda click all my spooky buttons which are very important to me... but like the colors and visuals and themes in Confection are off the charts. Overall though, from having to gif and stuff, Season 5 has the OVERALL best lighting. It’s honestly amazing.
Favorite Ensemble Character that isn't Morse
Max. Need no explanation. Next question.
Favorite One episode Character
Jerome Hogg. Runner ups: the gay codebreaking priest in Girl who strikes me as someone I think Morse bonded with momentarily before he was killed. It reminded me a lot of the crossword setter he meets in Inspector Morse who is also a bachelor with a fondness for whiskey and he also bonds with before he dies in the Silent World of Nicholas Quinn. I also love the fucking jelly room lady from Confection and Charles Highbank from Sway.
Favorite Morse Look (season, ep, whatever)
Controversial Opinion: Morse looks the BEST in season 5. Even More Controversial Opinion: Season 6. Those dark shirts. The cherry blossom tie. That uniform. YES THE MUSTACHE. I take no argument.
Biggest Disappointment
The continual expression that the women will be treated better and they just... aren’t? Also S7. So many dangling unsatisfying threads, no real solid themes to make the episodes stand out independently, very little amusement or lightening of the mood, a very muddy overall season with very little that’s new emotionally or shocking or even true edge of the seat scenes. I was more annoyed the whole season at things more than I was riveted. Feels like a segue or in-between year. Honestly, too much Morse bullshit without softening it with other people or police antics.
Provide some Spicy Takes (on canon, fandom, anything)
Honestly, in a way, Morse can often be the least interesting part of this story. Once you know him, he’s predictable even in his wildly fluctuating moods and sensitivities. Turn the camera around. Don’t let him be the lead anymore. Now he’s a supporting character, and you know who he is? That snooty coworker who keeps to themselves, rats out everyone who isn’t in his direct circle of friends, is a teacher’s pet know it all who is NEVER punished appropriately when he steps out of line (not framed), and who you are unsure how he actually keeps the friends  (name one time besides just saying he’s Jim’s friend, that he’s SHOWN it?)...because they sure as hell don’t show him maintaining his friendships OR relationships very well... Maybe this is why I care about non-Morse characters so much. MAX. JIM. BOXANDGEORGE RIGHT NOW. Honestly... in other character’s stories... Morse is a bit of a social and domestic villain! He’s my favourite trash man but he gets wayyyyy too much attention (I also attribute a lot of this to Shaun Evans thirst and I have mixed feelings on that).
Free Space! (Make up something - anything - you want to share or say)
Fave Max Debryn Bowtie. Also he owns the only braincell in the whole show.

Rules: answer the questions and tag others to keep it going, it can be as many people as you want! and if you would like to add more questions when tagging people, feel free!
Tagged by @spneveryseason, thank you for making me feel popular :)
Sibling status - Youngest of 3
How long have you been stanning for - I was a Dean girl when I watched five years ago but on my rewatch (started May 2020), I was a Sam stan right away, which became obvious during my Sam apologism in s4.
Favorite Sam era - Like, all of them, but narratively and in theme the s2 Sam era was so strong.
Favorite spn season, but if the only criteria was Sam’s hair - Controversial opinion, but s8. It was a goddamn mane and it was beautiful.
Favorite Sam-centric episode - Hmm probably Swan Song because of the magnitude of his sacrifice, and the redemption from his s4 demon blood arc.
Any ships you may like to mention - Sam/Cas is my #1 but I love one other unnamed Sam ship a lot and lowkey ship almost every other Sam ship but I will not go into it because ships are a touchy topic
Favorite song you would/have put in a Sam playlist - Maybe Boston’s “Don’t Look Back” or Blue Oyster Cult’s “Don’t Fear the Reaper”?
If you could steal one thing from Sam’s wardrobe, it would be - Carhartt hoodie <3
Complete the sentence: If Sam cishet, then WHY.... - “How about Sastiel? Samstiel?”
Favorite unhinged Sam moment - Listen, I should probably find a new one but for some reason this one always sticks with me: “You're too weak to go after her, Dean. You're holding me back. I'm a better hunter than you are. Stronger, smarter. I can take out demons you're too scared to go near.” (I guess it just highlights his transformation from hesitant hunter to a goddamn ultra-powerful hunting machine, which I like, and the arrogance is kind of hot for some reason.)
You must have some intense headcanons you need to talk about, tell me one Sam hc that drives you insane - Sam kept The Voicemail and listens to it every once in a while, especially throughout the trials in s8
Tell me something about the hbo Sam that lives in your brain - I read this one about how demon blood/angels don’t mix so Cas can’t heal Sam and they can’t touch without it being painful and being around Cas makes Sam feel sick or something like that but despite all that they would die for each other and anyway I think about that sometimes
Oh no, the writers forgot to give Jess a personality! Now it’s up to you. Tell me, what was Jess like - They really did forget, didn’t they? I think she probably balanced out Sam so she was more light-hearted and less serious; she was more artistic while he was more analytical; she came from a very grounded background (supportive family, grew up in the same house her whole life, etc.) as opposed to Sam’s moving around a lot and not having consistent friends or always-present family.
Biggest injustice Supernatural committed against Sam (be as brief or as ranty as you desire) - If we’re talking about Supernatural as in the showrunners: Early s8 Sam giving up his responsibilities - not helping Kevin, not even looking for Dean (?!), it was so out of character sometimes I just pretend it’s not canon. If we’re talking about Supernatural as in the biggest injustice within the show: I mean, besides his entire life? Probably the s9 Gadreel possession. Particularly because Sam thought he was going crazy when Dean kept lying to him about it.
And finally, just say something about him that makes you smile - His relationship with Jack :)
Tagging: I think(?) all of my Sam stan mutuals have been tagged before but if not please consider yourself tagged

My 13RW Season Ranking
My ranking would be 1-4-2-3 (from best to worst), although I enjoyed them all and they were all pretty similar in terms of being good or bad in my opinion.
S1 is clearly the most thought out, since it follows the plot from the book and all the storylines are etched out and almost fully explained. The format of having one tape (which means one culprit or event) per episode was simple but incredibly interesting, and while the season obviously had its problems, it was the most intriguing and well-made one.
S4 was a bit slow at first, which while some people thought of that as a bad thing, I actually found myself enjoying watching the students live their lives as normally as they could until everything started blowing up again. The second half of the season was way more intense, which is both good and bad since it was much more intriguing and impactful but it was also a bit much. In terms of how they handled the ending, however, I actually didn’t hate it and felt a really strong sense of closure. I won’t spoil too much in case someone who hasn’t finished the season reads this, but I think that while I absolutely hated the fact that they killed off my favorite character, they were able to tie up the story pretty neatly, with a few open ends. There were a few plot holes or unecessary things such as Winston being pretty absent in the last few episodes and the whole Estella storyline which had a lot more potential, but I liked the way it turned out in the end. Maybe I like this season so much since it’s fresh in my mind and it made me more emotional than any of the other seasons so far, so my opinions might change in the future but for now I think it was one of the best.
S2 had great potential. It was a lot of pressure being the season that came right after the highly controversial first season, which was both loved and hated by many. The whole storyline with the trial was quite risky, but I really liked the idea of listening to the other sides of the story, and the other characters’ perspectives on what happened and what Hannah said on the tapes. The fact that Hannah’s bias and lies were exposed in some situations was really interesting to me, and I was really shocked at some points and things that were revealed. It was the slowest season, though, and some of the episodes were the most boring in the entire show. The development of Justin and Clay’s relationship ended up saving the season (and the show tbh) and I loved how you could see them slowly turning from acquaintances to friends to brothers for life.
S3 was really really entertaining to me at the time. When it came out, I couldn’t stop watching it and I really wanted to find out who actually ended up committing the murder. But while at the time I really enjoyed it, the more I look back at it, the worse I realize it is. The whole HO storyline could have been dealt with way better, especially since the conversation the show sparked about sexual assault in the first two seasons had a lot of potential. Ani being introduced out of nowhere and being both the narrator and pretty much main character of the season really annoyed me, and I really disliked her character and how she was placed into the story as this sort of “insert yourself character” in a fan fiction, where she was friends with everyone and ended up saving the day. And just overall, the fact that a show about suicide and mental health turned into a cheap murder mystery was just weird, and while I didn’t mind the fact that Bryce died (since he was an awful person), this storyline just made his horrible character have some sort of “redemption” and turned one of the main teenagers into an actual murderer/criminal. The whole framing Monty thing also really bothered me since while he was an awful person and deserved going to jail for what he did to Tyler, the actual group of friends just got away with literally committing a crime and killing someone? With no punishment whatsoever except for being tormented by Winston in S4? It was a mess (a very intriguing one for sure, but still a whole mess)
Please let me know your own ranking if you disagree! I’d love to hear your opinions
