I haven’t posted a whole lot here about this project, but I finally wore it to Celebration on Saturday and have various pictures so it’s time!!
Leia’s Bespin dress has always been my favorite, probably because the colors are in line with a palette I like. I decided a while back that I wanted to make a hanfu version of it, inspired by cationdesigns’ hanfu Ariel. The costume seemed like it would translate especially well to Song dynasty hanfu because it’s relatively simple: tunic, pants, and cape, which I (currently) have done as moxiong (tank top), pants, and layered beizi (jackets). I also wanted to lean into the Chinese cloud design because Cloud City :D
Wanting to do Bespin Leia meant deciding if I wanted to try all the embroidery, which is why I worked on other random projects last summer to see if I really could dig in and learn how. I started actually embroidering my Spoonflower printed fabric for the costume in October 2022, and finished the fourth panel of motifs by the first week of March 2023. (There were some delays due to to other projects, haha.) In February or so I worked on drafting and tweaking the patterns for the beizi and moxiong from a hanfu pattern making book available on Amazon, so that in March I could hopefully knock everything out in a couple of weekends and be done in time for SWCE.
Figuring out what to do about the embroidered fabric was the hardest part. I talked to Ronnie at length about it as well as cosplay friends, and ultimately went with what you see here. I wound up taking the entire piece of fabric and my pattern pieces to the library so that I could trace directly onto it and decide placement. Actually cutting into embroidery that I’d worked on for months was surprisingly not as stressful as I anticipated, largely because I’d spent so long tracing the pattern on that I just had to trust myself that I’d done it correctly and just get the rotary cutter out.
A few more notes about the make:
patterns: self-drafted everything except for the pants, which are Winslow Culottes from Helen’s Closet
white embroidered fabric is from general_leah on Spoonflower
red chiffon (with auspicious cloud print) beizi underlayer, earrings, pendant, hair stick, and trim for belt are all from Etsy
red silk noil for moxiong and pants is from Fancy Tiger Crafts
red chiffon pibo scarf is a table runner from Amazon XD
purse is from New Moon Dance
shoes were from the thrift store with my insoles stuck in them so I could survive a con in flats -- which actually WORKED! (I also wore socks.)

Since i like making big cosplay props, here’s a WIP of my attempt of making the Justitia sword from Lobotomy Corporation. Got the bandages and smaller details all ready to glue on. 5:<
fun fact: It’s about 120-130 cm long. Much more manageable than my last two projects which were about 150-160 cm tall. Which i realise i never shared here, next post most likely is gonna be those two. (Platinum The trinities Staff, from Blazblue being the first, and Paracelsus from Guilty Gear’s A.B.A. being the second. )

Breaking the boys back out for Ren Faire. Guess I have to actually finish my Seluvis costume 😅 (and not the day of 🤡) I was considering cosplaying Varré alongside my partner, but I really do have a perfectly good costume that I worked on for DAYS.
For the Preceptor, I'll have to:
1. Get so much dimensional fabric paint for the celestial bodies and gemstones on the front panel
2. Properly redo the stars on the hat
3. Figure out what is going under the mask
4. Make blue vials to give out to hecklers (I'll make a gold one on the off chance a Ranni shows up)
For Varré:
1. Completely remake his scarf
2. Figure out how to hold his mask on his belt
3. Get those dang side flaps to sit flat
4. Get pouches
5. Make Maidenless bracelets to give to hecklers

Adventures of a foam gremlin learning a fancy needlework technique (Part 1)
Cinder’s fancy dress from RWBY has not given my brain peace for years. Now that I’m cosplay crafter, I really want to make this and do more than use some cheap poly satin and flat HTV details for the gold appliqué
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, naturally I decided to dive right into the deep end and pick one of the most time consuming and fiddly dimensional technique: Goldwork.
There are several different types of goldwork such as cut work (working with wires that have to be cut to length) or couching (metallic threads that are stitched down and then plunged to the back). Below are some example pieces that use a mixture of purls (coils of metal wire) and Japanese gold work thread (thread core with flat metallic strips wrapped around it in a spiral pattern). This is done over padding to create a shiny, 3D piece with lots of texture.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My first step was patterning. I don’t have the dress done yet but I did drape some fabric over a dress form and trace half of the design with plans to mirror the shapes for ease of positioning later on. I transferred this to Procreate to refine the sketch and simultaneously mirror it. I like to use Adobe Illustrator for tiling out images to scale for printing so I exported the Procreate sketch into Adobe. To scale, this is 20 x 28 inches.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I printed it out and traced one of the smaller shapes into some dull yellow felt. My initial plan was to use smooth purl with only one layer of felt padding. I didn’t really like this so I decided to add bright check for some sparkle. My first attempt was far too wide and flat. I salvaged the lengths of wire and went to adjust my pattern to have thinner, more consistent lines.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also remembered that I need to stretch the smooth purl slightly before stitching so my next trial run will be much smooth. Updates coming soon!

『𝐓𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐭 • 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐡, 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐤』
Servant is here!
This was totally on impulse. I really love how it turned out, it was my first time successfully using white lashes, so hurray for that. I currently have a poll up on my Instagram comparing my both my Komaeda cosplays from 2020 and. 2022, so if you’d like to put your two cents in on that be my guest.
I’ve had insane amounts of inspiration lately, but so little time, and the school year is about to start yet again… I’m dreading it, but I know that I need my education purely for the fact that I’m learning technical skills that I desperately need. Things like pro paper-mache, poly-thermal plastics, sewing classes, pattern making classes… I started this blog in the hopes of learning and sharing all of these skills with the world. I know I’m pretty slow on posting, but I’m gearing up to learn how to maximize my time so I can keep doing what I love, and continue sharing it with you all.
Alright, bye for now!! I’ll post in an infodump about a special antique sewing machine I’m trying to get my grimy little paws on. She’s part of the cosplay studio I’m working on putting together!

Up next is the embodiment of lust himself, Asmodeus! I already have the fabrics and fur, leather, etc as I originally wanted to have him made last year but due to getting covid in the summer and other personal reasons he never got done. At least since I already have most everything I don't have to worry about going and buying things. Ozzie will hopefully be done by May/June - bonus if earlier. I'm taking a few colour liberties for cost reasons and adding some personal details to make him more my own. Can't wait to share him!

MAG079 - HIDE AND SEEK
"I found a weapon. Of sorts.
I don’t know if it’ll help. I mean, it’s not going to help. I can’t fight it with a pipe. I’m tired just carrying it. But it does make me feel a bit better, so… so that’s something."

The Total Cosplay Makeover - Mom Edition
The night I started the meds for my IVF cycle, I was supposed to run a table for my boutique at a big cosplay event. I had worked really hard to bring my character to life and was excited to wear the outfit as part of a trio. Things did not go as planned. The drugs made me really ill, and I ended up puking in the parking lot before the event started. We never even got photos of our group – the…

I have nothing important to say other than enjoy some WIP photo spam of foam clay goop (also known as the time I made Gyurato’s blood sickles). These also glow under a UV light because I am extra and just couldn’t resist making these excessively detailed.
