Most of you are aware I grew up in the greenhouse business our family has owned for 4 generations . We still are a greenhouse family to this day. I’ve shared this before but I’m sharing it again for beginner seed starters because generations of experience has taught many lessons. 1- Do not use the brown paper recycled pots of doom. 2- Add cinnamon to your seed starting mix. 1 cup of cinnamon per 20# of soil and then more sprinkled a top it. This will aid to prevent damping off and is actually a rooting hormone as well. 3- Use seed starting mix not potting soil and don’t let anyone convince you otherwise. It does matter. 4- Use heat mats w a thermostat set at 73-75° for most seeds . They’re worth it and they do improve germination significantly. 5- Any light in the right K temp will work. 5500-6500K is the correct k temp. This is not to be confused with lumens, they are not the same. 6.) Start when the signs are right. Don’t be willynilly. Maybe you didn’t have this growing up. That doesn’t mean you can’t start it today with your own children and pass it on down your family line. One of the most important lessons we learned from our families has been that community begins at home. We were never designed to live in solitude. We were created for fellowship and community. Is it always a bed of roses? No. Do feelings sometimes get hurt? Sure, but we don’t operate on feelings we operate on love. Living in community with family looks a whole lot like withholding no good thing from one another. It works like being unselfish with ones time, money, and other resources. It also requires much patience, love, respect, and forgiveness. People aren't perfect. There will be conflict and the resolution of that conflict is entirely dependent upon your ability to set aside your pride and love someone else more than you love your self. Not even Naomi had a daughter in law as good and kind and beautiful as mine. Ruth has nothing on my Bri . I could have searched this world over and never found a better wife for my son or mother for my grandchildren. She’s as beautiful inside as she is outside y’all and that is saying something when you’re talking about kids in their early 20s. HER generations will rise and call HER blessed. The next generation of The Compound. Living and working the same land our family has worked for over 100 years. Growing their own food. Hunting, fishing, foraging, and making remedies just like the women of our family have always done. I’m so proud of her. Yes I’m proud of my son too, don’t worry. He knows it.
