My step grandmother, Michelle, and her mother, Sara, served this to us with homemade orange sherbet. My mom’s dad, step mother, and her parents came each year and spent all summer with us. The cooking 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻. Their home cooking Italian cannot be touched by even the fanciest Italian restaurants, I was truly spoiled by good food as a child and spoiled my own children with their recipes as well. . . . . . . . #cookies #tarts #winterbaking #citrusseason #fallrecipe #sweettooth #bakery #bakersofinstagram #bakersgonnabake #recipes #recipe #f52grams #f52community #easyrecipes #quickrecipes #recipeshare #recipeideas #dessert foodie #comfortfood #comfortfoods #foodiesofinstagram #southernfood #foodstagram #nytimescooking #tasteofthesouth #tasteofhome #southernliving #imsomartha #cottagecore https://www.instagram.com/p/CnqJvhxu2td/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

So, without further ado, let's get into the recipe shall we?
Ingredients
1 package (16 ounces) hot lean turkey breakfast sausage
1 large onion, chopped
1 medium green pepper, chopped
1 can (14-1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes with garlic and onion, undrained
1 can (14-1/2 ounces) reduced-sodium chicken broth
3 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 bags boil-in-bag white rice
Louisiana-style hot sauce, optional
Directions
In a large nonstick skillet, cook and crumble sausage with onion and pepper over medium-high heat until no longer pink, 5-7 minutes.
Stir in tomatoes, broth, Cajun seasoning, pepper and contents of rice bags; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, covered, until liquid is absorbed and rice is tender, 8-10 minutes. If desired, serve with hot sauce.
SEE? I told you it was fast and stress-free. 😉 My favorite type of cooking.
Health Tip: Replace half the sausage with lean ground turkey and use unsalted chicken broth to save almost 700mg sodium per serving.

Seasonal sugars have always been a thing, yes we still love @dixie_crystals but this recipe came from deeeeeep within the old handwritten recipes left behind by my granny’s mother. They didn’t have much but they had a cow and chickens and honey, molasses, or sap syrups and occasionally some cinnamon (usually around Christmas). Custard was mostly a winter treat. Poor man’s dessert looks an awful lot like fancy food these days doesn’t it. Mamaw made it in emptied tin cans, I edited that part to ramekins because I’m sure not many people are holding on to their tin cans after use these days. . . . . . . . . #poundcake #fallbaking #fallrecipes #fallrecipe #sweettooth #bakery #bakersofinstagram #bakersgonnabake #recipes #recipe #f52grams #f52community #easyrecipes #quickrecipes #recipeshare #recipeideas #dessert #foodie #comfortfood #comfortfoods #foodiesofinstagram #southernfood #foodstagram #nytimescooking #tasteofthesouth #tasteofhome #southernliving #imsomartha #cottagecore https://www.instagram.com/p/CndO2ABuLCX/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
