Saturday with East Moonwingian - Counting

Amenisi!

Today we're gonna learn how counting evolved in East Moonwingian.

The language preserved the three counting systems from Old Moonwingian.

Personal - Used for counting people, mix of decimal, vigesimal and quinary

Non-personal - Used for counting anything that doesn't fall under personal, mix of decimal, vigesimal and quinary

Magical - Used for casting spells, decimal

Let's examine how to count. On the left there will be the personal system, on the right the non-personal and on the right the magical.

Again the difference between cardinals and ordinals is placement in the sentence. Before the thing you count and it's cardinal. After the thing you count and it's ordinal.

And there's one more word for the day!

Tasen - (noun/determiner) Dozen

Nom. - Tasen (sing.), Timtasen (dual), Tasenja (plur.)

Pos. - Tasin (sing.), Timtasin (dual), Tasinja (plur.)

Obj. - Tasen (sing.), Timtasen (dual), Tasinja (plur.)

Inst. - Tasenen (sing.), Timtasenen (dual), Tasenenja (plur.)

And you can use this word in all three systems! What a wonder brought by evolution...

Shen Qingqiu, increasingly frustrated as apparently none of Luo Binghe's canonical wives (that he's actually met so far) have been able to break his curse and wake him with true love's kiss, finally rationalizing that maybe, perhaps, the platonic bond between a master and disciple will be sufficient (though how can it be, if even Ning Yingying and No.1 Best Girl Liu Mingyan have failed...?) and, in a fit of desperation, whispers an apology before leaning over to press his lips oh-so-gently to his sleeping disciple's mouth...

The Shen Qingqiu who has a strong qi deviation and becomes a child of 7, 8 years old? but he talks about weird things like Pokemon, TV, internet, chocolate cookies, his brothers and where they are and where is his mom.

At this moment, Luo Binghe has already fallen into the Abyss- so, there is a bit of relief about Shen Qingqiu not mourning, but that child is a terror of nature. He goes barefoot everywhere, he has no decorum in his dress, he talks nonstop as if he had a sugar overdose- he says that Liu Qingge is pretty like a Barbie, no matter who the hell that Barbie-jie is (Liu Qingge even gets offended, has he been compared to some COURTESAN?), that Qi Qingqi scares him if she does THAT look (and finally challenge her to flex her arm muscles just to hang from them, and she is PROUD), he rejects Yue Qingyuan's hugs by saying that his clothes are ugly and stiff, but then only accepts cuddles because he says that he has puppy eyes and it's not fair. He tries to flee or attack when Mu Qingfang comes near, saying he smells like a bad weird doctor, and only lets him come closer when Mu Qingfang promises that there will be no needles involved (he also talks a lot about something called a UCI, weird operations - how the hell HAD HIS HEART BEEN REPLACED? what the fuck was a pacemaker - and how horrible hospital food is). And definitely NONE OF THEM can deal with the demanding, loud, complainer, critic, easily bored chaos that is that child.

The only one who seems to know what the hell to do with that little Shen Qingqiu? Of course, Shang Qinghua.

He sings to him in an unknown language lively songs to which the child responds by squealing with joy and following the melodies, they talk about something called Pokemon for hours, he apologizes for not having chocolate cookies (he offers him milk candies as compensation), he says they have no internet reception up there and what's the point of having a TV if they don't have good shows?? Entertains the boy for HOURS telling him about monsters and plants, both clearly made-up stories and real stories from that world. He makes him run chasing flying folded paper to exhaust their energy, and even cooks his meals making meals that none of the other Peak Lords have ever seen (much to the chagrin of disciples Ming Fan and Ning Yingying - they also want to spoil little Shizun!!! But the child only makes ugly faces when he sees white rice!!!)

All the Peak Lords are perplexed who happens to be the only one who knows what to do after all. Apparently and thank goodness, it is temporary; soon Shen Qingqiu's qi will circulate normally and his body will return to adulthood as well as his mind. In the meantime, the sect basically leaves him in Shang Qinghua's hands - although they visit him almost daily.

And Mobei Jun, who sees much of all that because the child Shen Qingqiu - or Yuanyuan - does not leave the side of his spy no matter where he go or what he has to do, just think how much he wants to put babies in Qinghua. Many of them. He will find out how, and soon.

Friday with Old Moonwingian - Counting

Today in my fairy conlang lesson we'll take a look at the counting systems. Yes, plural! There are three different sets of numbers you use for different purposes.

Personal

This system is used for counting people and overall sentient beings. If the stuff you count can communicate using language, then you use the personal system.

The system mixes decimal and vigesimal, but also throws in a bit of quinary.

Non-personal

Self-explanatory. You use this system when counting anything that doesn't fall under the personal system.

It's a similar mix of decimal, vigesimal and quinary as personal, but also is the only one with its own word for a dozen.

Magical

This is a special system used only for casting spells. It serves as a case of whatever the opposite of avoidance speech might be as it is used specifically to strength the spells. The fairies living on Moonwing Islands believe that these numbers have special powers inside them and as such help with magic.

It's completely decimal.

Now let's compare the three systems. On the left there will be the personal system, in the middle the non-personal and on the right there will be magical

The difference between cardinal and ordinal numbers is placement in the sentence. Place it before the thing you count and it's cardinal. After the thing you count and it's ordinal.

I really liked adding some of my headcanons, like them as Nirvana fans/listeners (Stan's t-shirt [which is also my first Nirvana t-shirt, me projecting myself onto Stan as always 🫡] and Kyle's In Utero poster). Also, I've added a poster of The Cure and the Toxicity album from SOAD too :3

And my favourite one, Kyle's pendant with the C of Crimson Dawn <33 Stan gave it to him when they were 14 and it is secretly his favourite possession (although he has never admitted it, he always wears it).

And well that's all, it's my first time drawing Stan with bleached hair like Trey's, I don't know if I'll keep it for other drawings but for now I like it :]
