Unit evaluation, practice evaluation, and eyes on the future
This has probably been one of the most difficult units of the course so far. After the exercise/project hoops of previous modules, self-direction should have been exactly what I needed; after all, I have ploughed my own furrow throughout the whole course. But a significant proportion of 3.1 coincided with some monumental domestic issues that required immediate and sustained attention and led to…

i am once again thinking about Percy and Annabeth and their respective relationships with their step-parents, particularly how the other views the other's dynamic with their step-parents.
Because there's a really interesting subtle thing that we see which is when Annabeth talks about her step-mom to Percy, Percy's assumption is that Annabeth's step-mom is like Gabe. He just presumes that because that's what's familiar with him and based on his own experiences he assumes their situations are similar.
But then when Percy actually meets Annabeth's step-mom (and her dad) he realizes their situations aren't at all the same. He was expecting another Gabe, but instead he just found a genuinely caring family that was just struggling to find their footing with one another.
The interesting thing is that this implies an inverse - especially with what we know about how Percy and Annabeth describe their experiences. Percy doesn't really talk about Gabe ever. To anyone. Grover knows the whole picture there but he's basically the only one of Percy's friends who does. As far as we know, unless Grover told her at some point, Annabeth doesn't know about Gabe. She knows he was a jerk, but Percy out loud doesn't ever really get into details about it. She knows they didn't get along and eventually Gabe disappeared and Percy basically never spoke of it again. Presumably, Annabeth thinks Percy's dynamic with Gabe was like her dynamic with her step-mom, like how Percy had thought their situations were the same. Especially given we know Percy assumed their situations were the same and likely spoke about it as such if it ever came up.
Like. That's such an interesting tiny aspect of their dynamic that never gets touched upon. Annabeth likely doesn't know about this very core traumatic experience Percy endured before they met because she's operating under the assumption that their family just was a little rocky like hers was.
#pjo#percy jackson#annabeth chase#percabeth#ETERNALLY mourning that this wasnt a character arc for the two of them in HoO cause that would have been SO fun#because Annabeth is a character who NEEDS to know EVERYTHING! and this is *Percy* we're talking about!#her boyfriend who she feels like she knows like the back of her hand! of course she knows *everything* about Percy!#except... she doesn't. and if she found out she didnt know about A MAJOR PART OF PERCY'S LIFE up until he was 12 that'd 100% mess her up!#because now she has *no idea* what else about Percy she doesn't know! because if Percy didnt mention this huge foundational thing about him#this core trauma he's been carrying all this time then *what else hasn't he told her?* thats the type of thing that will eat at her SO MUCH#because she is INTENSELY driven to know EVERYTHING. *Especially* about the things she cares about - Like Percy!#which would also be REALLY fun for their dynamic in Tartarus!!!! cause Annabeth has learned she doesnt know everything about Percy#like she had previously thought and now suddenly she's seeing this different side of him while they're in literal hell#so she'd have to completely re-evaluate her perception of Percy over the course of the series and how that affects their relationship

hi! I was wondering, which race was “that was really fun and you seemed normal” from?
(text posts here) qatar 2006!! casey's second race in the premier class and his first on-track confrontation with valentino (unless you count casey soaring through the gap left by toni elias sending valentino to the shadow realm at the first corner of jerez). he got pole - valentino nicely complimentary about the rookie's performance - after a very stressful time getting to the track. illness and flight problems, very casey experience. in the race valentino was soon on his tail, chasing him down for the lead and eventually passing him. casey sickly wee rookie gradually slipped down the field to finish fifth, while valentino won. and valentino came up to casey after that to do the grabby hands thing, of course. it was really fun AND valentino seemed normal !!
(relevant autobiography excerpts here, more lovingly collected screenshots of this historic handshake here. if you want more on the stuff covered by this post in general, see here)
some more context worth including. first off, here's valentino and casey after the next race at turkey, which casey ALMOST won - passed on the last lap - and where valentino was fourth. once again vale comes up to casey to congratulate casey for his first podium:
in total, valentino passed casey six times in race situations in 2006 (or at least that's what it says in my notes). qatar, shanghai, catalunya, donington, and twice in phillip island (flag to flag race). this isn't just me collecting detailed to the point of useless trivia info about the rivalry, there's some potentially relevant insight to be gleaned here. casey writes in his autobiography that he thought valentino made some passes he wasn't a fan of in both races and practise in 2006 - and that this has made him a tad wary of valentino already. now, if I had to guess I'd say there's a little bit of retconning going on here and casey is overstating his level of scepticism towards valentino going into 2007, but equally I can imagine casey was annoyed by valentino at least a couple times on the track in 2006. I can also imagine valentino did do a wee bit of light hazing of the cute rookie by being a bit of a dick to him on the track when the opportunity presented itself, in particular in practice. however. of course it's hard to judge an overtake perfectly from watching it on a screen (especially if you have to judge by casey standards), but I really struggle to see how casey could have any problem with qatar. my personal guess is that donington is the offending race, where valentino does run casey pretty wide. the other candidate is phillip island - but since one of valentino's passes there WAS controversial for non-being-a-dick reasons, I've always felt casey would be specific in bringing that one up if he'd had a problem with it
and all that being said, little casey's brain was also cooking up valencia 2006 conspiracy theories to explain how valentino had been SABOTAGED - and said a few years ago that after 2006 he was so impressed he'd felt vale was basically unbeatable. plus, obviously he still needed to feel warmly enough about valentino headed into 2007 that he could go around looking for head pats at qatar - it's not possible for casey to become disillusioned with valentino if he was never... not that. so yeah, that's what the text post is referring to: casey and vale's first on-track fight, casey's first big success in the premier class with his pole position, young casey being pretty hype in his own understated way about being at the sharp end of the field with valentino. cute. I'm sure casey's right and valentino's definitely normal. it'll be fine
#valentino holding out his hand to casey at turkey bringing a sort of reaching out to a feral kitten energy to the occasion#//ht#you do have to say this autobiography is being subjected to unfair scrutiny#like some of these lines i imagine casey wasn't expecting someone to make careful notes of seventeen races for to evaluate#well I DON'T CARE. it's included in a published book i'm allowed to scrutinise#i have a spreadsheet that tracks how the way casey refers to valentino changes over the course of the autobiography. tough luck casey#//#batsplat responds#brr brr#//brr brr

Why do you think males are reaped after females ?
well it's like what Effie said
idk it's just common courtesy ig
#answering stuff#also it switches#with the male going first for the evaluations and then the ladies go first for the interviews#so it goes back and forth#honestly mainly switches depending on what is needed for the hunger games book#the drama of katniss reaping wouldn't hit the same if peeta got picked first#and then her going dead last at the evaluation is also extra drama especially in cf when she knows Peeta has done something#to piss off the gamemakers#and then of course peeta's interviews wouldn't hit the same if katniss went after him

Interesting. Don’t necessarily think I’m autistic but I have more going on than just ADHD and I’m not sure what that is.
#I’m not even sure if the ADHD is actually ADHD either or if it’s just technology addiction#Gonna get a REAL neuropsych evaluation at some point out of sheer curiosity as to what the fuck is wrong with me#I relate to a lot of autistic things and I relate to a lot of ADHD things; but I don’t entirely relate to the majority of either population#and I don’t relate to people with both enough to think I have both#I’ve begun treating myself as if I am autistic just for Kicks and using things that help them and it’s helping in some ways#but I know it’s probably not autism because even though I struggle socially; it’s not because of the same reasons#I understand social cues; I was only accidentally perceived as rude as a kid (and most kids are kind of blunt)#(Mostly a moderate amount of “Stop correcting me! It’s disrespectful!” from my parents)#And nowadays because of how much psychology and acting I study; I can perceive shrimp social cues#And I’m purposefully doing all the right things but it still feels like I fail social interactions because of my lack of assertiveness#which I KNOW come from being raised in a cult#so perhaps my odd social behavior is from CPTSD from being raised in a puritan doomsday cult as an only child#Because I was NOT introverted or sensitive to others as a child#I did not have routines as a child and the ones I did have were for fun and did not distress me if I strayed from them#But now I need structure as an adult because I don’t know what else to do with myself if I have nowhere to be#But at the same time everyone feels worse when they have no routine or expectations#And is it actually inattentive ADHD or severe derealization and an itch to do as many things as possible#because I spent my childhood being raised in a boring doomsday cult by disabled older parents who couldn’t physically do much?#(And I don’t fault my parents for being disabled but I do fault them for the whole doomsday cult thing)#So I spent my whole childhood doing mentally tedious things when really I’m more wired for physically spontaneous things#Because I was not allowed to walk around the neighborhood alone until I was sixteen#And I couldn’t hang out with friends I wanted to hang out with because they were bad association#So of course I got really good at drawing even though I don’t even like drawing that much#Of course I got really good at writing even though I don’t like writing that much#Now that I don’t need to escape from anything I find I actually hate drawing and writing because it’s such a chore#they make my heart rate accelerate in a way I don’t like to feel#(I hate writing less than drawing)

Capacity Building for Monitoring and Evaluation Training: A Complete Guide
Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) is a critical function for organizations working in development, nonprofits, and even corporate sectors. However, many professionals struggle with gaps in their M&E knowledge, making it difficult to track progress, measure impact, and make data-driven decisions.
If you’ve ever felt unsure about designing M&E frameworks, collecting the right data, or analyzing results effectively, you’re not alone. The good news? Capacity building in M&E can bridge these gaps and turn you into a confident, skilled professional.
In this blog, we’ll break down everything you need to know about M&E training—why it matters, key skills you’ll gain, and how to choose the right program. Plus, if you're ready to take the next step, we’ll show you a proven way to build your expertise.
Why Capacity Building in Monitoring and Evaluation Matters
Many organizations face common challenges when it comes to M&E:
Lack of skilled staff – Without proper training, teams struggle to set up effective M&E systems.
Poor data quality – Inaccurate or incomplete data leads to unreliable insights.
Low stakeholder engagement – When teams don’t understand M&E, they don’t see its value.
Inefficient reporting – Reports fail to capture real impact, making it hard to secure funding.
Capacity building in M&E tackles these issues by equipping professionals with the right tools and knowledge. Whether you’re an M&E officer, program manager, or development professional, structured training can help you:
Design strong M&E frameworks
Collect and analyze data effectively
Improve decision-making with evidence
Communicate impact clearly to stakeholders
Key Components of Effective M&E Training
Not all M&E courses are the same. A high-quality program should cover these essential areas:
1. Understanding M&E Fundamentals
Before diving into complex techniques, you need a solid foundation. A good course will explain:
The difference between monitoring and evaluation
Key M&E terms and concepts
How M&E fits into project management
2. Designing M&E Frameworks
A weak framework leads to weak results. Training should teach you:
How to set clear indicators and targets
Logical framework approaches (logframes)
Theory of Change (ToC) development
3. Data Collection and Analysis
Many professionals struggle with turning raw data into insights. The right training will help you:
Choose the best data collection methods (surveys, interviews, focus groups)
Use tools like Excel, SPSS, or KOBO Toolbox
Interpret data to make informed decisions
4. Reporting and Communication
If stakeholders don’t understand your reports, your hard work goes unnoticed. Learn how to:
Create clear, compelling reports
Use visualization tools (charts, graphs, dashboards)
Present findings in a way that drives action
5. Real-World Applications
The best training includes case studies and practical exercises, so you can apply what you learn immediately.
Who Needs M&E Training?
M&E skills are valuable across multiple roles:
Project Managers – Need to track progress and measure success.
M&E Officers – Must master data collection, analysis, and reporting.
NGO & Development Professionals – Require impact measurement for donor reports.
Government Officials – Use M&E to assess policy effectiveness.
Researchers & Consultants – Need strong data skills for evidence-based recommendations.
If your work involves planning, tracking, or assessing programs, M&E training will make you more effective.
How to Choose the Right M&E Training Program
With so many courses available, how do you pick the best one? Look for these features:
Practical, Hands-On Learning – Avoid theory-heavy courses. You need real exercises and case studies. Experienced Trainers – Learn from professionals who have actually worked in M&E. Certification – A recognized certificate adds credibility to your skills. Flexible Learning Options – Online, in-person, or blended formats to fit your schedule.

For the false memory moment you are thinking of, is this it?
“‘But what if … what if he‘s [Piper’s Dad] a different person [after she wipes his memories]?’ // Leo had had the same thought. If the Mist could affect their memories, could Jason‘s whole personality be an illusion, too? If their friend wasn‘t their friend, and they were heading into a cursed mansion—a dangerous place for demigods—what would happen if Jason‘s full memory came back in the middle of a battle? // ‘Nah,’ Leo decided. ‘After all we‘ve been through? I can‘t see it. We‘re a team. Jason can handle it’” (Chap. 47)
I did see this one while looking for the quote I'm thinking of but sadly it's not quite it 😔 this quote you've shared is pretty significant and probably the most major instance of leo evaluating what the "real" jason (as in jason with all of his memories back) might be like (although it's not actually even an evaluation so much as it is a concern that's readily dismissed), but it doesn't say anything about leo's fake memories. thank you for trying tho!! 💜
the one I'm thinking of was probably in early-mid tlh and it's suuuuch a tiny little blurb in leo's thoughts, but it was specifically leo's expressed opinion on the false memories - an opinion that made it seem like he doesn't think they're important to deal with/doesn't think they're a big deal, which I take issue with because they are a big deal!!! I'm smhing at myself so hard because I literally just reread tlh but I didn't highlight the line 😩 disgraceful because I highlight everything. atp I just have to go reread it a second time
#I'm interested in this for a lot of reasons but especially because like no one talks about this in the fandom#<- “this” being that leo has fake memories of jason. and it's rick's fault lol because we know next to nothing of what leo's false memories#looked like. but if you aren't going to evaluate and break down those fake memories (which leo definitely doesn't) then how am I supposed#to have confidence that this friendship (leo/jason) isn't /still/ built on a lie the way jason and piper's relationship was#like yeah of course they do become good friends. but the books didn't do enough to convince me that leo's fake memories aren't#still an influence on their friendship. which matters to me because I hold friendships and romances in equal gravity#I think people have their shipping goggles on when they evaluate this stuff tbh. like I have no problem with the ship myself#(although I have never liked any jason ships in a canon setting I can only enjoy them in aus)#but this is writing flaw that very much impacts how I view their overall dynamic#baye.txt#pjo#leoposting

i hate researching things that are highly variable because i'll try to find an answer to a question and all the search results are like "well the answer depends on like 12 different parameters so there is no direct answer it just needs a professional to evaluate" and i'm like AUGHHGH
#partly because then i need file my questions down into something much more specific#which often requires me to make decisions on things i'd rather have kept vague#this applies to multiple things but i most often see it when researching medical information#because of course the treatment and evaluation of a condition is going to be based on the severeity and situation#so i'm like sigh. so no general rule? just 'it depends'? ur not gonna at least give me an average? cries

I'm not going to continue having discussions with people through anonymous asks because it's possibly the most inconvenient and frustrating way to have a conversation, but suffice to say you can keep sending me asks but if you "suffer without external validation," that is something that you need to work on for your own mental health
#also I feel like it's a slide left from your original point that there is no point in creating things unless it's for validation#like of course we all want to feel validated in some way but you should evaluate how much you depend on it and how much it motivates you#or possibly more importantly how the lack of it demotivates you#i answer
