Palia house update - 8/27/2023

Welcome to my home. Here is an updated tour of my house! Topdown view

3 medium rooms, 1 small room, 5 hallways. Front of the house

Right side of the house - my garden, currently growing blueberries, tomato's and 1 apple tree.

A rustic seating arrangement beside the garden for all small outdoor gatherings.

Infront of that, you have the money makers, my preserve jars and worm farms

Left side of the house - my campfires for making grilled fish for my glow worms.

Back of the plot - my furniture tents, and storage tent. Since we cannot sell them yet, I will hoard until we can.

Main Entrance - with gardening being my highest level skill, I think it was good to go with the farmhouse theme

Kitchen - finally equipped with a fridge and a small hallway, turned into a nice place for plants.

Crafters corner - I decided to bring the crafting stations indoors with the addition of the fireplace I think it give it a nice vibe. Entrance from the living room

Welcome to Berry's Palian home!

Okay y'all it's finally here. Palia is here, and I am free of the NDA!

So, what is Palia?

Palia is a cooperative MMO game, where the focus is on helping each other, not competing. Did you shoot one of the sernuk but it got away? If someone else shoots it, you *both* get to loot it, and you will *both* walk away with the spoils.

There are some things were you actively *need* to cooperate, or you're not getting things (Flow-Infused trees that regen their health too rapidly for one person alone, Proudhorns that *teleport* for example.)

There aren't traditional dungeons. You will not be facing monsters, or saving the world.

The Majiri, the people of Palia, believed humans were extinct. Except suddenly we're all popping out of the woodwork now! Instead of being greeted with suspicion or hostility, you are met with friendly curiosity and gentle concern from the Majiri who call Kilima and Bahari Bay (the two zones you can play in) their home. They set you up with a plot to live on that you can expand, and ways to help yourself, and the people around you.

The name of the game is cooperation. With maybe a little mystic mojo thrown in. What you'll mostly be doing with your days and nights is...

Wait for it...

Whatever the hell you want.

There are quests, don't get me wrong. you get them via improving your relationship with NPCs, and also stumbling onto things in the wild (I have a food recipe I've been trying to complete since my second day...), but for the most part, you can literally fill your day with whatever you want. You wanna go fish all day? Go fish! You wanna participate in some good-natured (respawning) deforestation so you can build furniture for your home? Go nuts.

As your skills build, so do the things you can acquire from certain NPCs. Ashura, for example, one of the first NPCs you meet (He is Dad. Fite me), is in charge of your foraging upgrades. He gives you your first axe and foraging is one of the skills you can level fastest, with or without Focus. (I'll get to focus in a minute), and the higher your forage level, the more recipes and useful items he has to offer you.

Once you level a skill to ten, you even start earning medals, which can be used to buy even *more* exclusive stuff.

Now, Focus can be confusing for first time players. Focus is not a skill. Focus actually is a skill *bonus*. You will earn your points faster if you have focus in the bar. You can earn a higher bonus, or a bigger bar by visiting a couple shrines~ (No spoilers 8p)

Oh, and did I mention you can date certain NPCs? You can~ Not everyone, of course; some folks are married, some are too young, too old, or just plain don't wanna, but there's plenty of relatable NPCs, so long as you don't mind the purple skin. Now, as to how it *works*, I don't actually know. I'm usually too busy running around trying to get stuff. But I know it can be done, and some of these NPCs are just too precious for *words*, y'all.

Now, Palia isn't perfect. It has two body types that are very clearly male/female just without the gender names. They are 'fit' body types, as well. No fat people or twigs or muscle-bound folx here, which is a little frustrating. You cannot alter your height either. But No one references you by any pronoun, hair and clothing are not gender locked (afaik, please correct me if the dresses are), and you are not limited to the one default starting outfit.

Me, I love the game. I've loved it since I was welcomed into the first and second alpha testing, and it has improved so much from the early stages. If you want a cozy MMO, this game is your game.

Happy Winterlights!

A couple of weeks ago Tish visited me to tell me about Winterlights. It's the first time she's visiting me since she became my shepp, so I figured it was important. She told me about the winter festival of Winterlights, when Majiri light candles with those they care about and it's to hope for a fresh, green spring because this is the darkest time of the year, when the sun rises so late and sets really early. She said it's symbolic of new beginnings, and warmth, and that it evolved into celebrating with food and drink. Jina also told me about the ancient human tradition of decorating evergreen trees and hanging up decorations and stockings. Tish gave me a candle to light with all the people around the village, and I ran around doing that, and it was grand fun to share that with everyone and listen to all their hopes and wishes for the coming year. I lit a candle with Jon as well, and he said his hope was to find an enormous palium node and mine it all by himself. I think I gave him my best glare. My hope is - just to get some more answers, I guess. Answers about everything, but mostly who I am and whose I am. There must be someone out there who loves me. There must be. I must be someone's baby. I can't just appear in the world and have nowhere to come from. All things are born. We don't just materialise from some void. My parents are out there somewhere.

Here's a picture of my tree. I put presents at the bottom for my friends. Jon's present is there too. Funnily enough it's NOT palium. I'm not getting Hassian anything for Winterlights because he is incredibly mean and if he wants presents he needs to learn to be nicer to people. A few weeks ago, in a rare moment of niceness, he told me he had been watching me hunt and that I was almost as good as he was. It made me feel good, and like he really meant it, because he never just tells you things willy nilly. Then yesterday, when I was in the woods near the gate to Bahari, he thought it was really important to tell me that I needed to get a handle on my bow. WHAT? I glared at him and he smirked at me until I lost my temper and shot an arrow right over his head. He was definitely startled and he walked away but I was fuming so badly. So no. He doesn't get a present. Sorry not sorry. This behaviour is not okay. The only good thing about Hassian is Tau, as I've noted before. Here's a picture of me with him. He's the best.

It's snowing. A LOT. I have no memories of snow - well, of anything much, really, beyond vague feelings of recollection or a sensation that there's something missing - so this is sort of like my first time seeing snow, I guess? After the first night I went out and jumped around in the snow for a while. It's soft but it's crunchy. And it's wet but it's powdery. Snow is a contradiction. Maybe it's Hassian's spirit weather.

Jon thinks the best thing about snow is making snowballs to pelt me with. I was startled at first! Snow hurts when it's packed together like that and thrown at the back of your head. But! I made a stack of snowballs and got him right back. Several times.

Here's a picture of me on my front porch. You can see a bit of snow in the background. When I took this picture most of it had melted! But then it snowed again that night. I've decided I like snow best when it's fresh. It becomes a slushy sludgy mess eventually, and that's awful.

I'm about to put this journal down and head into town. I'm having lunch with Ashura in the inn and a bunch of us have been invited, including Jon. Since it's our first Winterlights, he's hosting us all, and I'm looking forward to it. Reth has promised 'a big feast', and he told me there are going to be a lot of vegetarian and fish dishes that aren't soup. I'm not sure if we're supposed to take anything but I'm taking a blueberry pie.

If you haven't already heard of Palia, it is a cozy MMO game that I have been keeping an eye on for a while now. I got the priviledge of being in the stress test and closed beta, and it is honestly everything I had hoped it would be!

If you like games like Stardew Valley, My Time at Portia, or Animal Crossing, think that, but as a free to play MMO. The graphics remind me of a much more vibrant Drake Hollow (also a fantastic game).

There is fishing, gathering, hunting, collecting, and befriending the charming local NPCs, in an open world that will be slowly expanding over time. You get your own homestead to build and craft decorations for, and you can invite your friends by or visit their homesteads as well!

Idk who might be interested but I just started playing Palia, and for character creation you pick a body type, not a gender! and the clothes aren't locked to body types either! I'm still running around learning how to play but it feels like a cozy crafting mmo overall. Below is my invite code if folks are interested :) I gotta rep the games with good base character options
