Handmade cloth face masks are no replacement for a medical-grade mask, but using them over medical masks can be a snazzy way to better incorporate your COVID-19 safety measures into your costume! This list contains links to several different styles of mask, so you can choose what works best for you!

hello, world!

fed up with instagram's energy so here I am making a tumblr account in 2024. whole reason I'm on social media in the first place is to make art and connect with fellow artists so here's hoping I'm not the only one in here.

I made this sock rabbit from a pair of kneesocks I bought probably a decade ago! I was having a real thighhighs moment at the time but don't remember ever wearing these ones. therefore, bunny. pattern is modified from craftpassion's "lop eared sock bunny." (the pillow behind is needlepoint by my grandmother!)

This is my first proper adult-sized jumper; it's designed to be my answer to the medieval concept of heraldic dress, but eschewing my actual family crest (which is a) associated with my paperwork name and b) derives ultimately from the British monarchy, which, no thanks) in favour of the sun and planet and skies and sea, and the ruins of old power.

All the texture and colourwork my own design, raglan sweater pattern from craftpassion, yarn is Drops Lima.

I model it under the cut.

First mask made today was the purple with variegated thread accents (I’ve had that variegated thread uuuuhhhhhh nearly 20 years? and this is probably the most I’ve used in one project) and that accent stitching (and the picking out of some of it, and the weighing of whether or not to pick out and redo those skipped stitches) made it way more complicated than it should have been.  The second mask’s design interest lies in the pattern matching at the center seam, and, unlike the other, it went together as fast as it should have.  I used the CraftPassion mask pattern https://www.craftpassion.com/face-mask-sewing-pattern/

This pattern for a double cloth face mask from @craftpassion is a winner. It fits well, and since the straps can be removed, it’s very adjustable. We used the modification to be able to include extra filters. For this one, we used woven cotton for the outside, and flannel for the inside, and t-shirt fabric for the straps. This mask pattern (from Craftpassion) is very well-thought-out and was easy despite being very much out of practice at sewing. I especially love that the casing for the wire nose piece is open at the ends so you can take it out before washing, no worries about rust or ends poking through.
