𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘄𝗵𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮 I haven’t seen this photo in ages. I got sent it by a friend and it put a smile on my face. I hope it puts one on yours and sends a burst of endorphins through your body. The lion in the picture was the late Thor. He was struck dead by lightening on the same evening Nelson Mandela passed away. His favourite thing was for me to put my finger deep in his ear and wiggle it around. It made him into a 200kg puppy. I decided to go to Bir because my cousin, was volunteering at Zostel. I still remember this day clearly, I reached Bir in the morning at around 8. I walked till Zostel and was waiting for my dorm room to get allocated. Lucky me, I got early check in. Dumped my luggage, took my cousin and we went to a cafe for a nice coffee. Coffee wasn’t great but the feeling of being in the mountains was just beyond great.

I love food, I live for food and Bir was going to be a tibetan food paradise for me. So, the first meal I decided to have was Thentuk with some apple beer in a small place called Norbu Ghakyil Cafe. The beef was way too chewy and a lot in quantity, I left some of it.

Evening plan was to visit Palpung Sherabling Monastery and since there was no vehicle, I was either going to walk or cycle; but instead, I joined everyone from Zostel and visited the monastery as a group. I had never cycled in the mountains before; horrible ups and downs; yet somehow I completed a 12 km route on cycle that day. It felt good. At around 6 in the evening, I stopped for a nice cup of coffee on the way back at June 16 cafe. A cafe owned by a lovely couple with nice seating, nice menu, nice ambiance. I did not have dinner that night but I did go out for some dessert at Vairagi Cafe. Outside of the cave there was a large collection of floating plastic and debree, as almost everywhere these days. Just today I noticed how at least part of those bottles and bags end up in the sea. In Malta at least, garbage is being put on the street in bags rather than in big collection point bins. With a bit of wind the bags end up falling over, rolling into the road and getting squashed. The plastic disperses itself and over time ends up washing into the sea. An other reason is the chronic lack of normal, small garbage bins on the island, and especially Gozo (the 2nd smaller island). People end up wedging their rubbish behind bus stops, or tossing it in the fields after walking for a kilometre in search of a bin.
