On International Permaculture Day, @cropswapaustralia had several swap meets happening. One was at @mosshouseau, and had everything from a loaf of bread (it didn't even hit the table) to tomatillos! A lovely couple of hours meeting and chatting and swapping and sharing - even for those who hadn't been able to ring anything. . . The permaculture principle in play is Fair Share: "We are provided with times of abundance which enables us to share with others." . . #cropswapsydney #cropswapau #cropswap #internationalpermacultureday #permies #fairshare #permacultureprinciples

We drove 60 miles over many mountains to share one of the Kiwanos that @b_models brought us with a fruit vender so that she may share seeds with her community. All I've read is your about page but some of the stuff you say really speaks to me. I've been considering settling into a homesteader and/or minimalist lifestyle at some point in the future and was curious if you have any specific plans for homesteading already, like do you know how you will go about it? Sorry if you've already written about this and I just haven't seen it but it's so cool to know other people my age are interested and I want to see how others plan to do it
again – apologies for the very late response.
after farming across the country and really getting into the idea of self-sufficiency and farming but also with living and working in the city as i do now, i think there can be some melding of both worlds.
in this socioeconomic crisis, we see a lot of people returning to hearth. it seems to me that people needed permission to go back to these roots, and now they got it, probably in a way they didn’t expect, however.
record numbers of people are learning how to bake bread, how to take up diy projects, how to can and ferment, and i think it’s awesome. good on people for learning how to support themselves. i’d love to see this extend into growing their own food.
i live in the city and i’m very happy living in a city – there are simply too many things here (when the city isn’t closed due to socioeconomic collapse), so my aim going forward will be to incorporate methods of self-sufficiency into urbanized settings. how can we all be more self sufficient? how can we rely on our community more so than large chains? will we consider seed and plant swapping? will we share with our neighbors? will we barter and trade? it’s going to be interesting seeing how COVID affects our cities and town going forward.
personally, i am going about life as usual. for me that looks like seed starting, planning out my raised beds in the community garden i participate in, making my own food, learning how to make kombucha, gluten-free sourdough (yes, me too), and kimchi. i’m looking for members of my community with which to trade seeds and seedlings, and eventually, those who are willing to trade produce. there’s a great app called @cropswap (which you can find on instagram by that tab) that has started a large collaborative based off of this incentive. i’d love to see this expand more to the midwest in the coming months and years. i also hope to see a return of victory gardens, not in the name of nationalism, but in the name of advocacy for the community, all members of the community.
that’s my area of experience and interest, so naturally, food and plants are where i’m focusing my efforts. i’m currently limited by finances, or i’d be growing more food to feed more of the community, or maybe even raising chickens and bees. unfortunately, i don’t have the space or time for that currently, but perhaps one day.
i feel like homesteading has a certain air of standoffishness, of being separate from the community, but i really don’t think that’s what it should be about. it should be about returning to the roots, to the community, to the land, to embracing a simpler, less distracted society. it shouldn’t be exclusive, but rather, inclusive. at least that’s what i hope for the future of homesteading.

All things natural
The mission of all things natural and associated sites is to promote a healthier community and a cleaner environment through sustainable living practices, while at the same time supporting business. We can achieve this by providing a platform that promotes the consumption and use of products that do not use chemicals during their production. We will provide and promote this ease of access platform to all environmentally conscious people.
A few years ago, while unsuccessfully searching for a Cropswap platform where I could trade an abundance of vegetables I grew, for produce I wasn’t growing, I decided to start National CSA Directory. When I was done I created a platform that was much more than just a Cropswap. If my platform was used properly, I felt it would make local small scale farm stands the first choice for consumers over large scale grocery stores. We are making progress every day.
During the process of promoting and building the number of producers and consumers that use National CSA Directory, we discovered there were a large number of vendors wanting to sell and promote their all-natural retail goods on our site. We didn’t want to muddy what we were trying to accomplish with the promotion of organic food consumption. It became clear what we needed to do, expand our efforts. It was at that point that the idea and development for All Things Natural began.
Society is on the cusp of change. We are at the end of an industrial revolution moving towards an environmentally friendly, green revolution. Every day more and more people are becoming aware of what they are consuming, and the effects that it has on the environment. The people leading this movement need a one-stop shopping experience. At All Things Natural we are leading the charge in this area, by providing not just a platform for all-natural commerce, but for local synthetic-free agriculture as well, all at one shop.
Individuals are responsible for what they put in their own bodies, but we share the planet. This means everyone is responsible for how those choices affect the environment. Is Convenience today worth the price we will pay tomorrow? At All Things Natural, we think not.
