Not necessarily in a format but I think fleshing out OCs meant for one-shot scenes is very fun

4/5 of my Spooky Month OCs happened that way, and looking back on what originally sparked their creation is fun:

One was originally an unnamed, faceless cultist in a crossover fic, whose sole purpose was to set up that the crossover characters were going to be a complete wrench in the cult's plans should the cult try to directly interfere with them

One was, essentially, me needing an exorcist character for a fanfic since the show didn't have a priest at the time -- I even built her as a foil to an existing character for fun

Another was originally a placeholder character for any scenes at the mall, since the only known worker got fired sometime after his debut

The fourth's original concept was, funnily enough, taken by a canon character in an AU -- I decided using an OC just made things easier. His sole purpose was to run afoul of the cops, bite one while trying to escape, and then dip for the main plot of the cops realizing he was a werewolf after a full moon

All of these fanfics were scrapped (except the last one- I want to revisit it at some point), but I liked the base ideas so:

The unnamed cultist became Margo, inspired by fan theories regarding an existing character and my interest in portraying some of the cultists in a sympathetic light, given that all confirmed/implied cultists were jackasses at best, monsters at worst. Also made her friends with said character inspiration

The exorcist became Blossom, who I reworked to work under the actual priest once he was introduced. She ended up being a nice foil to him too, completely unintentionally, serving as his younger, more open-minded counterpart with her own set of issues

The placeholder mall worker became Rachel, who I gave a love of gossip and, for extra humor, a grudge against her former coworker's later coworker and friend, since people liked pairing the two together

Finally, werewolf dodger became Blondie, a neighborhood cryptid that just wants to be left alone. The reason the cops were after him turned into him trespassing and stealing clothes because he kept wearing through his old ones

I uh. Don't think you expected this much but I like talking about my OCs and the processes behind them and it's just very very neat to me, hope you have a nice day

How's about Greg and Amethyst for that character writing meme?

Pick a character I’ve written and I will explain the top ~three to five ideas/concepts/etc I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to accurately depicting them.

Greg is a no-limits parenting kind of guy. He never gave curfews, standard food times, or schooling. It was good in some ways, but kind of fucked up in others. He really saw Steven as different from normal kids, all bc of his mom

Happy to listen but often doesn't have world-shattering advice. Off the top of my head is Gemcation- when Steven was upset about Connie he was like "well I doubt she hates you. She's probably acting like I am- worried sick." which was true but not exactly like. Comforting?

Talks in a mix of 90s slang and fucked up memes thanks to listening to Crying Breakfast Friends for fourteen years

Had an extremely unique upbringing for a Gem. Her defect made it so she had to LEARN things, not just come out with them, and she spent hundreds of years in total isolation. I like to try to reflect that- reflect that even among Gems, Amethyst is an oddity.

Amethyst doesn't 'real talk' easy. She never has. She's not going to go on for paragraphs about her feelings. It tends to come out more as exasperated rants that are a little complicated to understand- "I would just be floating all day!"

Amethyst flaps and jostles and moves a lot! She doesn't sit still.

Just because she's loud DOESN'T mean she's a super extrovert. She once spent a whole party wingwomaning for Pearl. She has one (1) human friend and she goes years between hang outs with her.

Every damn time, this poor kid just keeps stumbling into like. The worst people. Or not the worst but right at the worst time anyways.

In my mind, he's like. The opposite of Skid and Pump. Like those two will be getting literally chased by a cannibal and still think it's a game. They didn't understand Moloch, like. Literally dying in front of them.

Meanwhile Lucky probably knows the worst parts of the town, but not on purpose! It just keeps happening to him!

Ohhh I wished it did! I never thought of the art when I made the character.

My friend actually came up with the idea. I was brainstorming persona ideas when on call with him (I make him listen to me spit out ideas lol) and I hadn’t thought of one for Kevin yet. I told him I wanted to keep a “spooky” theme (Since it’s a spooky month AU) and he suggested the Candyman.

The bee part came from what I remember of Candyman. And a backstory related thing I made for the persona.
