You seem to be coming from a pretty optimistic place, though, with Council Skies. I guess it’s uplifting in the right places, and it’s melancholy in the right places. I think it’s quite an honest record. I don’t like to make the [songs] too autobiographical. I certainly wouldn’t draw attention to the parts of songs that are about me and my life. “Dead to the World” is very autobiographical. So are “Think of a Number,” “Council Skies” and “Trying To Find a World That’s Been and Gone.” -- noel interview, spin.com, may 25, 2023

“When I was growing up, not only were there not a lot of queer stories, but the queer characters were always the villains of the story. For example, all the Disney characters: Scar in The Lion King, Jafar in Aladdin, Ursula in The Little Mermaid... I was very lucky, it didn't make me hate myself or hate being queer, it just made me like the villains! But I had this urge to say, "Give this villain a chance, maybe he's not such a bad person!" Because, without realizing it, I was saying to myself, "Give me a chance, I'm not a bad person just because I'm queer.” In the case of one of the main characters in Dark Rise, Will, a story from the past tells him that he's the villain, that this is his destiny. So what happens if every story tells you that you're the villain? Can you choose your own destiny, or are you doomed to become what everyone tells you you have to be? This way of grappling with your own identity is a specifically queer experience.”
- C.S Pacat
I’m dying for book 3 when Will gets his chance!!!

I have a certain fondness for characters that haunt the narrative, when their name causes multiple reactions in the individuals in the story as in the plot, their presence is their own absence.
Auguste like a ghost between Damen and Laurent.
Ashara Dayne and what the hell happened in that Harenhall tournament, with Elia Martel.
Gilbert's ghost not letting Serge move on with his life.
Lucy Gray in Snow's brain and her song in the games.
Lestat disturbing Louis and Armand in Paris.
and so many other characters who don't even have a line in the story but who have a horrible weight in the narrative.

For the first time in its history, Call the Midwife fans have a two-part Christmas special to look forward to ahead of new episodes in the New Year.
Rather than the traditional 90-minute instalment, the BBC has confirmed that there will be two 60-minute episodes, which will also include a Christmas cliffhanger.
"Who doesn't love finding an extra, unexpected present underneath the Christmas tree?" said creator and writer Heidi Thomas OBE.
"When I was asked to write a two-part Christmas special for 2024, I couldn't resist!"
Executive producer Dame Pippa Harris added: "For the first time, viewers can luxuriate in a two-part festive treat this Christmas. Heidi has created a spellbinding special which I know will delight our loyal fans."
Director of BBC Drama Lindsay Salt hailed Call the Midwife as "one of UK television's most popular festive traditions".
She continued: "And this year we wanted to go even better, with Call the Midwife's biggest Christmas ever!
"Heidi and the team have lined up an absolute treat, with two irresistible episodes packed full of everything fans will love about this very special series at Christmas time."
All of the "well-loved characters" will be back for the two-parter, which picks up in Christmas 1969.
The midwives are "all busy delivering babies and doing the job they are most dedicated and committed to", while Poplar also welcomes a funfair, which adds "a burst of colour and excitement to the frosty landscape".
But there will be challenges, including influenza and the Hong Kong flu, not to mention an escaped prisoner.
As the neighbourhood prepares for a carol concert, "fears grow that he may be in the local area after a spate of break-ins".
Elsewhere, "the Turner children are caught up in the fever surrounding the Blue Peter Christmas appeal to collect dinky cars and scrap metal, Trixie makes a fleeting visit to Nonnatus House and is delighted to see her brother Geoffrey, and Miss Higgins has her grandson Harry stay for Christmas".
Violet also has her hands full hosting a mince pie competition, "but the Buckles' preparations for Reggie’s homecoming are thrown into turmoil".

Interview With A Fic Writer
I was tagged by @kazoosandfannypacks <3. You can read her interview here!
How many works do you have on AO3?
21
What's your total AO3 word count?
76,906.
Your top five stories by kudos/likes: 5. Just Breathe (More than a drabble, not quite a one-shot. More a moment.) 4. Burn the Ships (Incomplete) 3. For You I Would Crawl (Another moment) 2. Please, Be Mine (Complete) 1. Witchy Woman (Complete)
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes, I do. I am always thrilled when someone has taken the time to read my words and tell me their thoughts. The least that I can do is thank them. (Also, it fuels the muse a bit. Sometimes, fic writing feels a bit...lonely? You are so excited about this idea or these characters, but people in your immediate vicinity or in your life are less excited about it, and you wonder if you are the only person affected by them or who cares about the story brewing in your head about them. It is so, so reassuring and delightful to get a comment from someone else impacted by these characters and your words/thoughts about them.
What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
Oh, likely the ACOMAF story - Slipping Away
What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?
All the CS fics? I don't mind putting CS through a bit of Hell, but they always work it out in the end because I cannot hurt them anymore than the writers (and @nachocheese-itsmycheese) already do. (Also, that is an endorsement for nachocheese-itsmycheese. If you need to feel something, go read her fics.)
Do you write crossovers?
I have a crack fic that is a cross-over in a way. It is OUAT meets Hoaring: Buried Alive.
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
I wrote fics for Twilight and Lord of the Rings in middle school and high school. One of the Twilight fics (on FF.net) got a comment along the lines of you should k**l yourself.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yes. And, yes?
Most of the published smut thus far is a fairly sweet and loving. But, I have a few scenes written that are a bit less "vanilla".
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope, but I have a few readers who have other languages. I would love to see one translated.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I've started a couple with people, but never really finished any. I have cowritten many a published engineering/scientific article and report, so I like having more authorial control and voice in my fic writing.
What's your all time favorite ship?
Captain Swan? Yeah, probably Captain Swan...
What's a WIP you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
I know my readers probably think all of my open multi-chapter fics, but it is likely the fic that I have started from Emma and Killian's fairy godmother's POV.
What are your writing strengths?
Oh, I am terrible at talking about my strengths. (You should see the first draft of my Chartership application.)
Maybe... my ability to tell pull you into a story without to much presence. In that, I use few words to tell the story and give the reader the space to dream up finer details.
I am a bit of an experimental author, so I hope that it gives the readers something unique and fun to experience in every story.
What are your writing weaknesses?
I am a slow fic writer. I will plot a story, love the plot, write the story (painfully slowly), and write a completely different plot, which slows my writing even more. I think in both pictures and words - when I write, I see the picture so vividly that I agonise over every word to ensure the feeling and key parts of the picture are translated correctly. Also, I think I tend to do the Steve Moffitt awful thing of building up something nicely and then failing on the delivery. I am working on having as much energy and excitement at the completion of a story as I do at the start to aid in that.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in fics?
I know pieces of other languages and have been known to use them when I felt like they would fit better. I am so interested in languages and cultures other than my own that I love finding ways to draw them into my work.
What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?
Grey's Anatomy?
What's your favorite fic you've written?
Probably Witchy Woman or A Year Without.

ngl the enthusiasm cs pacat has for her own writing in old livejournal posts and interviews and commentaries makes me want to reconsider my "i'm not going to attempt publishing original work in any serious capacity bc the industry depresses me too much" stance

Snippet of an interview Noel did with Dave Fanning on June 5, 2023, to promote Council Skies. Fanning says, "So it's about, what, 13 or 14 years since you left the band that you left. So is it a career—is this what you want? You want to just keep making albums with the people you're making albums with and have guests in like Johnny Marr and all the rest and just be able to do whatever it is you want to do?"
Noel pauses and then answers, tripping over his words a bit like he's not sure what to say. This is the key part: "This is gonna be a pivotal um, uh, period for me, uh, going out on tour now, uh, I could—I don't know why I say that. I can just sense it. I can sense it could go one of two ways after this."
Fanning asks, "In terms of your personal life or in terms of the music?" Noel starts to say something and then breaks off and says he'll never give up writing music.
