My 4444-word review of NEO TWEWY (with personal illustration + heavy spoilers)

My overall critical score for the game is 7.5/10, while my personal enjoyment score is 8.5/10. This review is posted as I have 80% completed the game, got the secret ending and achieved the Angel psychic rank. I’ll first start with the main pros and cons as follows.

PROS:

- Enjoyable as a whole, still upholding the first game’s spirit in world building and sharing the same backbone - which was mostly revealed in the Secret Reports, it’s impossible to grasp the story without reading them.

- The new cast and new game is charming in their own way

- The old cast’s return is one of the biggest highlights for sure, it was fun and impactful. Everyone stays true to themselves and also had their own stories wrapped up nicely.

- Boss designs are cool, new pins are fun to use and collect

- The connection between the old and new cast is well written and executed, including but are not limited to the tension between the old and new protagonist, the weird but fun interaction between the 2 Composers, the new friendships revealed and formed

- Sho being in the main cast is something so uniquely TWEWY and uniquely Sho

- Still good music

- Still many fun side quests, some of them really uphold the same quirky spirit of the old game and some are surprisingly touching

- Many new nice stores and yummy looking foods to explore

- The map is really easy to memorize for me, it’s fun to travel around the “current” Shibuya to see all the differences compared to the past

- The social network is crazy and interesting to read through

- Has an anti-frustration system to help 100% complete the game more easily and earn money faster, so post-game is relatively managable.

- Overall, I really feel the efforts the team poured into making this as their passion project, not just during the development process but for all the last 14 years. They showed the vision of what they wanted to make, at the same time giving something to both the old as well as new fans.

CONS:

- The biggest problem with the game is scenario writing. The story is so heavily back-loaded. The director himself thought it would be better to balance out the tension flow by adding more at the beginning but gave in to the scenario writer in the end, probably due to time pressure. This results in an underwhelming execution of characterization and lots of wasted potentials for the first half of the game.

- I struggle to view it as a stand-alone game, since the backstory and the old cast both play such an important role in the core of the game. If someone plays this game without having played the OG, they can only enjoy it on surface value at best.

- The new cast is nice but most of them aren’t quite as intriguing as the old cast, maybe it’s cuz they’re all too nice deep down that they lack a little bit of an edge, of that batshit craziness that everyone in the OG used to have? I think some characters (Fret, Nagi) ended up weaker in terms of characterization because the writer is too afraid of making them unlikeable – which kind of backlashed cuz they only became likable in the most expectable way to cater for a specific group of fans. I would have wished for the other team leaders to be more crazy too, had they not suffered 30+ loops of the Game…

- The CAMERAWORK IS HELL.

- Gameplay does get tedious at certain points with all the time travels.

- Shiba is so badly written as a villain, some Shinjuku characters should be given more screentime cutting into Shiba’s– like Hishima or Kaie or even, Hazuki (though his limited presence also solidified his importance).

- Some of the main character designs, for example Beat’s hairstyle and his food reactions are hilariously bad. What’s the point of covering up most of his unique facial features?

- Some of the minor/side characters’ design are too cool for them to have such a small role (eg: Ayano, Eiru). Ryoji did get much screentime but is nowhere as fun as Makoto was.

- Overall the scope of this game is made a little too big for the team to handle as perfectly as the last game that was very compact, it felt somewhat rushed in development too so the missing pieces are clearly there in the final picture

The entry fee versus paying for it all in the end

An important difference between the Neo game and the original Shibuya game was that the Shibuya rule asked for an entry fee that is the Player’s most important asset, stated as a chance the Composer gives them to reexamine themselves. Meanwhile, the Shinjuku rule neither encourages nor allows personal growth and ultimately aims to erase as many Players as possible. It’s a pity we were never introduced to the full Shinjuku rulebook, as it seems like the system there focuses more on building up power and a grand government to compare with the individuality-driven system of Shibuya.

When you have to compare the new game and the original game (OG), this is an important factor to consider. Also, the OG has a serious storyline running through and through, locked with a different partner/GM creating unique atmosphere for each week and you don’t get to see your old partners again until the end. NEO’s team system does not allow such deep insight and communication between the Players. All of your teammates are always there throughout, the dynamic does change with each new addition but it is not as prominent as a partner change.

Another important factor is how the OG was built from scratch for a new platform as “something no one has ever seen before”, while Neo recycled a lot of old unused ideas from the previous development (check out this interview for more details). The development team for NEO lacks 2 key members and had a change of writer so the final product is not as strongly bound together as the last game.

The new cast is definitely inspired by today’s teenagers (from the view of creators), compared to the old cast they’re more sociable and always seem to take whatever works for them despite feeling unstable inside. They are all innocent and genuinely nice kids, avoiding to hurt each other to a degree that they end up keeping some sort of distance. They’re also unable to communicate at deeper levels, always stagnant at this half-baked stage of equilibrium without any motivation to get to the core of things. That is the cost of entering the game without an entry fee, without even dying or having a reason to be there/to fight seriously. These kids were stolen from the RG into a Game that was decidedly the worst environment for them to change or develop, just wandering around cluelessly to find a way “out” until tragedies started to unfold one by one and they ended up being charged the total sum of the price for their actions – ultimately losing everything in the end.

That is, I believe, a story arc which can resonate more to the youth of today rather than of my generation. If the message of the old game was to “listen”, enjoy life to the fullest and accept to trust others, the message of the new game is to “speak up” from the inside, trying to understand yourself and take actions instead of just going with the flow and finally, to take responsibility for such actions.

If Neku was handpicked by the Composer for being the special one with an all-dense soul to ensure victory of the game then Rindo was just a normal kid chosen out of random by Kubo to be his back-up plan, who just happened to have a high enough imagination to awaken the incredible power from his pin. Rindo was then officially chosen by the Composer as Josh picked up and handed the pin to him again, this time not as Josh’s personal Proxy – but as the Proxy to represent the normal people of Shibuya and via whom he could gamble if humans can fight for their own fate.

The underworld heroine and the hero with little of his own

Shoka is for me a refreshing and layered heroine. She’s the kind of character that took at least 3 trials of creators to form as a complete individual – that included Nomura who gave her the base design and Reaper background, Gen who gave a more cunning touch and the writers who made her English dialogues more punchy. Dishonesty equals “tsundere” is such a cliché, so the English writers tried really hard to avoid that trope in my opinion, while still letting her good intention come through.

She serves as the character who is informed of everything the players should have known, and there was almost nothing she could do about it. Almost. Until she met Rindo.

They were drawn to each other by sharing a state of “not having anything of their own”. They both started out with not being able to truly know themselves, Shoka even hated her RG life but also managed to mature from that stage before Rindo. She must have vibed with Shiki’s love and passion in the Gatto Nero threads, initiating her connection with Shibuya and understanding herself more. With Shoka as Swallow, they were able to open up to each other and offer mental support… but was still not getting to the centre of their problems because for all this time, Shoka could not tell Rindo the most important things about herself.

How did Shoka feel when she met Rindo at the UG? She probably didn’t want to hope that he would live the day until she witnessed the Twisters’ potentials. From the very beginning, they were both incredibly conscious of each other and also constantly frustrated that the person they happened to “notice” was such a condescending bitch/a clueless loser. The Shinjuku Reapers are overall quite drunk in power and uncompassionate to Players, Shoka included. She is also a master of dissociation, which results in her constant boredom, tone swings, haughtiness and subconsciously distancing herself from the friend – the boy she cares about – from false hope, as she judged from facts that it was a hopeless situation where nothing could ever be. Maybe she is naturally a bit of a chameleon just like her name suggests (Shoka 紫陽花 = hydrangea, the color-changing flower), so putting on an act and always dissociating herself from what’s important was easy, while hiding her contradiction was impossible. It was the ex-Reaper Beat who broke it out to her, that she should decide whether she really cared and wanted to do something for a change. He knew how it felt like to cross that line, and knew she wanted to too.

Shoka is endeared by many of the Shinjuku Reapers and has shown independent acts of kindness (the Shinjuku ghost), proving that her kind and truthful side is as real as her harsh and dishonest side – which makes her a nice mirror to the previous heroine Shiki, who also embraced a dichotomy of self-complex and self-love within her character. In the end, she was the first of the new cast to ultimately accept all that is important to her and independently made the decision to help save Shibuya despite all costs.

She was jealous at Rindo’s interaction with Tsugumi and Kanon but remained silent cuz she wasn’t at a place to have any say about it. She also didn’t reveal about Swallow because that would only add an awkward irrelevance to their current situation, as she was too ready to face erasure at the end of the Game. She only wished to “play a game” with him, be it FanGo or the Reapers’ Game. The tension that the team could only feel at the end, she’s felt it the entire time. The song “DIVIDE” is applicable to not just one bond in the game, but it always makes me think of theirs. There is always a “divide” between her and Rindo throughout the course of their journey, as the living and the dead, as a Player and Reaper, as someone who has a place to return to and someone who doesn’t, someone who knows little but wields too much power and someone who knows a lot despite not being able to do much.

To be honest, maybe I didn’t grow any affection for the new main cast from Rindo’s perspective but from Shoka’s. Since I started to sympathize with Shoka, I started to see the boy in a more “real” way. The real Rindo, behind his peaceful façade with others, would lash out on Shoka for her unfairly harsh attitude while none of the others cared. He could also subtly feel that mantle of unspoken secrets from her, her own contradictions, the unresolved chemistry between themselves – and not knowing what to do with it rather than to feel angry with all the unfairness he could not process. (As a Libra too, he’s triggered the most by unfairness!)

It is actually a positive development as he’s at least “reacting” to something strongly now rather than to keep evading his problems. During my replay, I clearly saw the difficult situation Shoka was in, her remaining harshness after the Motoi incident was due to her internal struggle with a mission to save her own life, versus a chance to really be with the team. Her decision was to do both at the risk of losing favour from both sides. Rindo started to accept her layer by layer, as the person who resonated the most to her contradicting nature from the start and knew that via learning her resolve, he has learnt his too.

Later into the game, she even got too much of his attention. Maybe even without knowing she’s Swallow, he’s familiar with her thinking direction and Swallow had always been closer to him than any other friend. It was only after she had to betray her important ones twice that she could start being truly honest. The scene when she died a 2nd time left a strong impression in me, the little reveal let Rindo know that he is also losing Swallow as he’s losing Shoka – and that only death could drive the last secret out of her. Her final “Later, loser” echoed through Rindo as it was the final truth, with only him remaining to hear it: they had actually, already lost everything.

Rindo was the boy who never dared to face all that matters to him until he lost it all, fighting an unfair battle in the faith that they would somehow still win. Shoka was the girl who always knew what was dear to her, but never dared to think she could be together with them ever after and still threw her all into a battle she knew was losing. I think they stir each other on naturally to fill out their gaps, similar to what the Shibuya game partner systerm would have aimed for. The end reward was a little divine intervention to help close up the divide between them once and for all.

During the game there was not enough space to process anything personal so at the ending when they officially became “friends”, it was an important affirmation of their bond. Some people complained it was friendzoning but it’s not, they just have arrived at the perfect place to start something more. “From now on, we will truly be together” – I read it as that kind of message.

The heroine from a lost battle, with her story taken away

After reading the secret reports and playing the game to be surprised of how small a role Tsugumi had in the main game despite being the “Hype-chan” thought to be a major character of the next TWEWY installment, many fans would feel sad at a missed opportunity to see the Shinjuku arc in full depiction.

It was shown clearly that, a Shinjuku arc was very carefully planned out and is a vital part of the whole story, yet it could not be made due to various circumstances behind the development scene. I would assume, that the team were not able to make a TWEWY game that ended on a despairing note, but it already happened in their mind, thus becoming a mental burden that forced them to break away from it and started the game anew with NEO. A significant part of NEO became the healing arc for the Shinjuku characters, especially for Tsugumi though I really wished more emphasis should have been placed on her rather than Shiba. We didn’t even get to see her brother – Shinjuku’s Conductor who had a vital role and instead was given the clueless Shiba, who had absolutely no idea what’s going on all the way until the last day in NEO. It’s as if Tsugumi has had her story stolen away from her, because her own battle ended with a saddening loss.

I think every time the game creators look at Tsugumi, they would feel that sadness too. Maybe to them, she is a bigger character than what is seen by the fans, as despite their failed effort to depict her story, she’s lived in their mind for all these years through periods of destruction, healing and rebuild. Though it is a pity we could not get to experience the full scope of the Shinjuku story, the creators was clear about the place they wished for it to arrive at.

Individuality, connection and the social network

The team system adapted from Shinjuku rulebook does not allow much room for personal development, as the team dynamic is closer to a work relationship forced to bear results, than a spiritual bond to max out all corners of understanding as found in the partnership system. The old Shibuya system allowed only 1 winner and 1 week limit per game, while the new rule declares for a 1 winning team and only the team at last place will be erased – the other teams will enter another loop. Furthermore, whichever team to challenge the unwinnable Ruinbringers will face the risk of ending up dead last followed by erasure. As a result, the longest-standing teams are most likely not the strongest ever recorded, but the ones who have figured out a strategy to simply survive until something changes, enjoying their newly found social constructs while they are at it. Basically, it is a system to hypnotise players into the illusion that they are still “living”.

Therefore, we as players would not get to the core of each Player individually as fast and directly as we did in the last game. The Twisters were able to stand out not because they’re powerful, they only started to have a real chance after growing enough to each form a meaningful and personal connection to another teammate. It did not come as a team, nor did it intiate from the existing friendship between Rindo and Fret. In fact, I did not find much solidity or anything truly note-worthy about the main team and new characters within themselves until they started clashing with other team members, Reapers and new recruits from week 2 onwards. Rindo found his personal development with Shoka (via a clash with Motoi and pretty much a mini dating sim between them), then via the confrontation of his role with Neku; Fret found his with Kanon then Nagi, the team learned about the real Neku via Beat, Neku entered the UG via Coco’s wish to save Tsugumi… it was not the team but their personal links that empowered them to fight and solve each of their problems.

The other team leaders may have failed because they did not form such personal links, after 30+ hopeless loops Fuya’s team all fell apart to pursue their own interest even at the cost of erasure, Motoi quit his KOL façade to work like a dog for the Reapers (probably to save just his own ass not his team), while Kanon dropped her tricks to find changes via honest cooperation in acceptance of a fair loss. The despairing note in that is huge without making much of a scene because their failure didn’t happen at their best effort to “win”, but in their last attempt to find a way “out”. Even Shiba got his way “out” in the end thanked to his personal friendship with Hishima and Tsugumi.

Something has shifted in the mindset of the game creators in the last 14 years, as both games are about “connection vs individuality” but the last game focuses more on connection between just individuals and this one on the overall network that is formed out of those individual connections.

The introduction of Beat into the main cast was truly the bridge between old and new, they helped each other out in several turns before officially recruiting him. Beat is a character whom a lot of fans including myself have felt somewhat concerned about after Neku disappeared from the RG, so when the new kids welcomed Beat with warm and organic interaction and Beat seemed happy, I started to feel like I wanted to help them out too! I think the overall team chemistry is enjoyable enough for new players, but I could warm up to the new kids more from the pov of a returning character – whom I’m glad to be Beat, as the older brother figure who is genuinely kind, fun, serious and upbeat at the same time; who is needed and needs the kids in return.

The social network is a fun and refreshing feature. You can read all of the crazy tidbits about Shibuya and the links each character have formed with the town people, it’s also fun to visualize how the characters act off screen. Characters’ profiles provide extra insight into their background too, like how it reveals Tsugumi has been friend with Coco during her time in the RG. During the game when not all characters have showed up, you can sometimes guess which empty spot will belong to whom. For example there is a 1 character linking to Neky that is not linked to anyone else, so I could guess that was Joshua, and that another character linking only to Joshua was probably Hazuki, hinting that the 2 Composers are related before either of them even showed up.

Hazuki only showed up for 5 minutes, but his presence is so vital and true to the game that I think he is the most memorable out of the new cast. The two Composers have such an intriguing bond, with their yin/yang or phoenix/dragon themes, opposite color design, the sempai/kouhai tone and the way they keep some sort of distance/work relationship as if it’s mandatory between Higher beings, yet at the same time they can talk so casually because they are truly equal – and different from one another. I have written a separate meta on them here.

Some people pointed out, that all Shinjuku characters’ names and themes are based off Hanafuda cards and the Phoenix in Hanafuda belongs to the Paulownia suit – which is Joshua’s name flower. This is so interesting because it feels like the creators somehow saw it as a sign to interweave the Shibuya and Shinjuku storylines together. Though it doesn’t come out much on the surface, it’s fascinating nonetheless considering both Josh and Haz had at some point interfered with the other town’s affairs.

“Shibuya tour with Haz” was such a special scene, as it happened between 2 characters who do not/no longer have a reason to care about Shibuya, on the subject of what is worth saving about Shibuya. Hazuki carried out the purification of Shinjuku and stepped in to restore Shibuya just as part of his job and unlike Hanekoma or Joshua who both possess profound understanding of humanity, he really didn’t know humans at all. Rindo’s irrational wish invoked in him a sense of curiosity, to try gambling on something irrationally and learning a bit of what his senior have experienced. With all the pieces put together, it provides an overview on Higher beings as a whole, and that Joshua and Hanekoma are really the odd ones out with Hazuki being somewhere in between them and the rest.

The old friends

It’s easy to have returning characters overshadow the new cast as they have already matured out of their personal story arc and stayed in our hearts for all this time. In the end, I have managed to enjoy both the old and new cast separately and altogether, and they will both find their own place in our memory of this game for the long term.

Sho is truly as crazy as ever, the game wouldn’t be the same if Sho is any less of what he is. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like Neky or Beat is younger than Nagi at all, with moments when it seems like Neky has aged 14 years instead of 3 years. His friendship with Coco surprised me pleasantly, and their interaction together with Beat was fun to watch. Rhyme’s found a new dream and her friendship with Kaie is precious too, especially considering that she can still talk to him online after the game ended. Josh and Neku’s interaction suggested that they have resolved the past and are on equal terms now, they even parted ways in good spirit and I don’t feel any worry about them like I did before.

Neku and Shiki’s reunion scene was beautiful, theirs is such a special bond that it has grown and supported them even without being able to see each other. I am so happy to see them all again and that they stay true to who they are, albeit looking more grown up, cooler and happier than ever before.

Overall, NEO can’t become a classic on par with the OG, but is definitely a good sequel and a good game in its own rights. I’m happy with whether or not there will be a 3rd game to complete the 3 monkeys theme, but if there will be – I hope the creators can really find the time to learn from the last 2 games and start over with a fresh mindset and strong core.

Okay, hear me out. Hope as a teacher

She doesn’t like kids, and I have zero reason to believe this, but I feel like she’s good with teens and could be a good secondary teacher

She’d treat them as adults but be compassionate and kind enough to help them when they’re struggling with work or even home stuff

Tho she has a reputation as being super strict in younger years, and a lot of kids start to dread her class when they see it on their schedule, it takes like a week for her to be the favourite

I think she’d have that rep just cuz she doesn’t tolerate assholes or is the teacher pushing everyone, but she does it cuz she cares yknow. And she’d never push a kid she didn’t think could take it

Even with the other teachers, she’d be one of the favourites, partially cuz she brings donuts on rough days and is always happy to sub in when someones out

Ibrahim

I want to see Ibrahim doing something in comics

Maybe he’s not a good writer or artist, but does something in production?

Like a creative head type thing, he vetoes bad ideas and pushes for diversity

Really receptive to readers and the community as a whole, and spends hours scrolling forums and stuff

If a character isn’t as popular but a lot of people are talking about representation and why that specific character matters, he pushes really hard to give them more screen time and good storylines

And honestly he’s super timid, but I feel like he can actually throw down when it comes to stuff like that

If he knows Gary in this AU and Gary’s story, that’s when he first tries for something different

Has a hero without a different body type and it gets a really good reception and praise, and thats what gives him a bit of confidence to stand up for other ideas

Jen

Nurse

Idk, she just comes across as one of the popular, kinda mean girls that turned into a nurse

But I want to say that she grows before graduating and ditches the friends she had that encouraged that, really falls into her studies and starts volunteering during all her free time

She is genuinely compassionate and caring and I just feel like she’d be really good with like little kids

The type that plays a fun game with them to distract them from shots when they’re scared, and if she’s at a hospital, goes out of her way to organize toy drives and therapy animal visits

Elisa

She’s so competitive that I feel like she’d be good in business like Hope

But creative and independent enough that she’d eventually start her own business

Like she’d go to school and everything and start pretty high up at a company, but corporate kinda fucks her over and doesn’t really promote her or anything, so she says fuck them and quits

Starts something maybe artistic? idk man, but I really want to say soap but I don’t think thats good lmao

But she poaches a few old coworkers and pissing off her ex-bosses is her favourite past time

It ends up growing quite a bit online and international and long distance orders and stuff keep them afloat during the pandemic cuz their social media has a reputation for being outspoken

And as self-absorbed as Elisa can be, I feel like she’s smart enough to know that keeping her employees paid and employed is the most important thing, and would like cut her salary, and just generally fight tooth and nail for them

Noah

Professor?

He just seems like the type that, if given the chance, would pursue education at every opportunity

And being a librarian already, he clearly values knowledge and the importance of it

So maybe like a sociology professor and really enjoys providing young people with new perspectives and ideologies?

And he’s really popular among his students for being straightforward and honest, respected by peers and staff for that, as well as being easy to get along with

i would have said philosophy if that wouldn’t turn him into chidi

Blake

So I know canonically Blake’s career depends on MC’s, but I kinda want to see her do something in law

Like she’s so argumentative, but one of the options is grad student, and I forget where I saw it, but someone headcanoned that she’s a major activist

So like an attorney for underrepresented groups, that sort of thing

Maybe gets a following online for giving legal advice or representation to people that can’t afford it? idk man i dunno how the legal system works i just like arson

But basically, I think she’d be a hardass for a career, but its to help people get a second chance and stuff

Middle manager. I just want to imagine him being really kind to his employees okay??

Sometimes he gets into fights with upper management, but he doesn’t care as long as his employees don’t hate coming into work

Kinda like Michael Scott, in that he tries really hard to be supportive and involved, but is better about boundaries lmao also not offensive just enthusiastic

Hello Charity.

I’ve been reading about MBTI for the past six years and I feel I have a good understanding of it at this point. It’s soooo exciting when I notice a function in someone even when I’m not actively trying to type them :D

I’ve settled on either INFP or ENFP for myself, and shifted my focus lately to figuring out which one of the two is my true type. I’ve read through the tags here, watched videos of people explaining the differences, read articles, compared fictional characters and .. no luck. So I decided to pay someone to type me (I’ve always wanted to try it!!). they said they could recognize the Ne in my answers instantly, and ended up typing me INFP. Though it was new and fun, the reasons I was given felt very subjective to that person. Especially that it seemed we didn’t have the same definitions of common words (emotions). Most statements need further explanation to be understood, and I felt mine were taken at face value and were understood according to their subjective view.

I’m not convinced, so I’m back to trying to type myself and I’m leaning towards the extroverted type. I have a lot of questions but I’ll only ask two because three is greedy :)

- I have likes and dislikes, but they’re almost superficial in the sense that they’re more like biases I had at a certain moment in time because I was overwhelmed by ‘strong momentary feelings’, instead of actual opinions that become part of my judgment and identity. My opinion changes several times a day/weeks about something then I drop it all together. I know ENFPs do this, do INFPs do it too?

- When I put something out there I want it to be of use to others. I’ve started many blogs and deleted them because I felt the content was useless. I feel like I could help people much more if it was through a one on one, face to face conversation. Publishing something that I will 100% change my mind about and has a very little chance of reaching even 10 people .. it’s not motivating. Do INFPs feel the same way or are they content with what they put out as long as they’re happy with it?

- education has a xSTJ system to it and xNFPs will struggle since Si and Te are their lower functions. Can you give a brief explanation of how the struggle would differ slightly due to the stacking of the function? another reason I think I lead with extroversion is because my problem has been sitting down and absorbing information slowly over a course of a semester + putting up with going to class every day and staying there the whole time. Coming up with a study schedule isn’t challenging, the consistency is. More than one tutor called me 'analytical but careless’, which leads me to consider Si as the lowest function.

There’s some Te rationalization in there (if it reaches no one, why bother?). Yes, INFPs create mostly for themselves and some of them don’t care if anyone ever sees it.

3) ENP school troubles: ugh, I am so over this class, it got boring 6 weeks ago and I want to move on to new and more interesting things. Also, schedules make me want to cry. INFP school troubles: I don’t want to go. :P But if I must, I’m going to make damn sure I remember all the important stuff (Si usage).

Rin Okumura Alphabet headcanons - [SFW]

A/N: aaaAAA hellO <_> ik ik i should be doing requests but djfjadffsj take this alphabet headcanons about our angel >:o so sorry for any grammar mistakes and if Rin is too ooc >:’) lemme know if ya wanna see n/sfw alphabet c:< ive stolen hc prompts from @/burnedbyshoto [x]

Rin:

A = Affection (How affectionate are they with an s/o?)

Super ultra affectionate baby. He's affectionate almost everywhere, no matter what's happening. In public tho, he's a bit shyer. He's down for holding hands, small kisses and so on. In private, however, it's gonna be hard to get him away from you, especially if something dangerous happened. He's a bit sad when you aren't much into affection, but will respect your decision; he isn't the type to force you into something you aren't comfortable with.

B = Breath (What could their s/o do to take their breath away?)

Saving other people in front of his eyes. He's literally gonna stand with his sword in his hand completely dumbstruck, only to "wake up" moments later feeling how proud he's of you. The feeling is so strong that it almost makes him wanna cry in the middle of an ongoing battle.

C = Cuddling (Do they cuddle? If they do, how and when do they cuddle?)

YEEeeessS jjfdsjsf always!! Even tho he prefers having you in between his legs or on his lap with his strong arms around your waist, he won't complain when he's the small spoon and has his head on your chest with you gently playing with his soft hair; this position allows him to listen to your heartbeat and gives you an opportunity to watch him open up to you about things that bother him.

D = Dream (What do they dream of doing with their s/o?)

He just.. dreams of having a normal life with you. No more lies, no more things that could even further somehow destroy his life. Just you two, going to school together, work, marriage, and maybe kids. And then, getting old together.

E = Effort (How much effort do they put into a relationship?)

He's ready to do anything, anytime for you. He's doing most, not because you don't do much, but that he just wants to. He loves spoiling you and that will not change. All the damn time thinks about you, whether you're safe or happy. Sometimes he needs to be scolded for that because even tho it's extremely kind and caring of him, it leaves an impact on his actions throughout the day.

F = Fear (What do they do if their s/o is scared? How do they handle it?)

Rin immediately scoops you in his arms and hugs you tightly while whispering comforting words and how much he loves you. Despite that me himself may be scared, he handles it pretty well; the most important thing for him is to get you calm.

G = Gifts (What type of gifts do they give their s/o? Do they want a gift in return?)

He usually gives you small things since he can't really afford much - keychains, a CD of your fave singer/band, flowers, etc. He DOES actually get you a bit more expensive gift when he saves some money, and trust me, he's gonna be even happier to give it to you than you receiving the actual gift!

H = Hugs (Do they hug their s/o? How often?)

You don't have to ask twice for a hug, in fact, you don't even have to ask. Will whine until you won't hug him back. Rin NEEDS at least one hug every day; he just really loves having you in his arms, knowing you're safe, breathing, with him, that you didn't leave him. His hugs are always long, warm and comforting, sometimes he tears up due to how important hugging is for him and how emotionally vulnerable he's during it.

I = Intimacy (How romantic are they? Do they have problems with intimacy?)

Kinda awkward when it comes to romance, but tries his best! Sometimes he tries too much and you both are like "............ ._.", but after some time he understands the whole thing and where it should stop. No problem with intimacy - if you want, he can make out with you in front of the whole crowd (with a blush on his cheeks).

J = Jealous (Do they get jealous? How do they act when jealous?)

Rin does get jealous, but not because he doesn't trust you, but rather because he's a bit insecure about himself. He's aware of his past and he isn't perfect, not that he tries to be, but he does feel sadness/anger when some guys are having too much fun with you, even during a conversation. He'll get mad, have his way with that person, only to later get even madder at himself for doing that. He does apologize tho, he'd die of remorse otherwise.

K = Kiss (Are they a good kisser? Do they like to kiss? How often do they try to kiss you?)

Rin isn't a bad kisser, but he's far from being best; so yeah, he's somewhere in the middle. He loves, loves, loves kissing you!! He's a bit shy at first, but once you two get more experience together he doesn't wanna stop. Can't get enough of kissing you on your lips, forehead and on the crown of your head.

L = Love (When do they say they love you? How often do they say it? Do they prefer to say or show it?)

Rin tends to say it after he wakes up and you happen to be in bed with him. He'll smile sweetly at you and softly place his hand on your cheek, tenderly caressing it with his thumb. "Good morning, baby. I love you."; He says it pretty often, but I assure you, every time he says it, he means it; prefers to say it - he isn't ashamed or anything, he's actually more happy to tell you than show you, cuz he isn't really good with it or hasn't figured it out yet. Rin's pretty good with words, and everything he says always comes directly from his heart.

M = Marriage (Do they want to get married? If so, what kind of ceremony?)

Y e s , y e s and y e s!! Without a second thought, this boy's heart belongs completely to you and if you agree to marry him he's gonna cry his eyes out from happiness!! He's a bit shy tho, so the ceremony would be only for your family and your close friends. Oh, have I mentioned he's also gonna cry during the ceremony??

N = Night out (What type of dates do they like to go on? How often do they like to go on them?)

Doesn't really like going to fancy restaurants, but he will, if you show him your puppy eyes he can't resist. He really likes taking you to movies, or maybe giving you some cooking lessons... in private, where no one can interrupt you two. It honestly depends on you how often he takes you on dates - he's fine with both going pretty often or almost not at all.

O = Out of the Ordinary (What’s something they don’t normally do with/for their s/o?)

He normally doesn't let you cook since he prefers to do it himself, but from time to time, when his energy is totally drained or he's way too lazy, surprise surprise, you're the queen of the kitchen! He's quite curious about your cooking skills, and even tho he'd be half asleep on the couch, he'll still steal a glance at you. Ngl is kinda worried about whether you will burn down the kitchen or not.

P = Playful (Are they playful in a relationship? If so, how do they play around/mess with their s/o?)

Hell yes! He's such a goofball, but we all know that already. Sometimes, when he's in such a good mood, you two have pillow fights that usually end up with kisses. You will also catch him dancing to the rhythm of a song - he gets kinda embarrassed, but invites you to dance with him anyways.

Q = Questions (Do they ask their s/o their opinion on things? Do they share theirs?)

YES! He's able to ask you a million questions about one thing. But don't worry, he can think using his own brain too, he just values your opinion more than his own.

R = Random (How spontaneous is their relationship? Do they do things on the spot or plan ahead?)

Not much here - 50/50, kinda. Most of the time things are planned ahead, due to his [exorcist] school/work.

S = Sleep (How do they sleep with their s/o?)

He's spooning you and no one will convince me otherwise. This guy lives off of hugging you. With this position, he knows you aren't in danger and he's capable of helping you when needed. Rin before sleeping gives your neck a sweet kiss, then kisses your hair and comfortably places his head on his pillow, being able to fall asleep with a smile.

T = Trust (How much do they trust their s/o?)

There are no secrets between you - both you and he don't hide anything, you two can fully trust each other.

U = Unique (What makes them unique as an s/o?)

He's extremely loyal to you. Cheating? he does NOT know this word. Whenever someone cheats on their s/o, Rin gets annoyed and disgusted. He can't understand how people can even cheat on the person they're in a relationship with? Do they even realize how that person will be feeling?

V = Vulnerable (How long until they can be vulnerable around their s/o? What are they like in this state?)

After 3-4 months of being in a relationship, he's finally gonna open up about his problems and stuff. Depending on how much things happened, he's either just very saddened or his entire body trembles while telling you his worries. Please hug him :(

W = Wild Card (Get a random domestic headcanon of the character of your choice)

He has a habit of wrapping his tail around you, especially your thighs whenever you two sit down near each other. At first, it was him teasing you only to get you flustered, but since then he's doing it unconsciously. Be careful when you stand up lmao.

X = X-Ray (What would they do if their s/o got injured?)

"dsfkfkskdfksjfd" He tries not to panic, but kinda fails. The good thing is that his body automatically gets you in his arms and he carries you bridal style to the nearest doctor/hospital. He feels like his heart might explode and he breathes heavily while waiting for the good news from doctors.

Y = Yuck (Do they have any pet peeves about their s/o? Are there any habits that might bother their s/o?)

The only thing that kinda bothers him is leaving dirty dishes everywhere but not in the sink. You may be a bit annoyed with his impulsiveness sometimes, but as they say "quid pro quo".

Z = Zeal (Are they passionate as an s/o? Do they want or like passion?)

Oh hell yes, he is~ Give him as much love as you want, he's gonna take it all without complaining!! He'll return it twice as much! <3

Fruits Basket, SE02, Ep24

This is a buildup ep for the finale. looks like furuba’s tradition for awkward buildup eps continues as this ep is clearly divided into two parts: machi & zodiac banquet.

-Killing the Vibe (furuba style):

Usually when writers buildup an emotional moment, they either go with it right away or if it is not its time, they slowly dissolve it or gradually redirect the story somewhere else. But the most important thing is that you hold on to the feeling they worked so hard to build but know that it will be dealt with later. Usually this is done with minor visuals such as quick flashback to the main event & the character taking deep breath ignoring it. But it is acknowledged that now it is not the time. Furuba doesn’t do that. If they build high moment & decide it is not the time to continue with it, they drop it abruptly, using the ending ost as a closing sign....which is odd cuz this is not episodic eps but continuing plot. They did it twice now: (a) tohru’s nightmare ep 19. it was treated as cliffhanger, but the next, we opened with yuki’s narrative where we see tohru normal. I know tohru’s issues will be dealt with later, perhaps season 3. But the nightmare moment was left hanging weirdly!! we never saw tohru deciding not to focus on it or anything! then (b) the kyo/tohru moment on stage & the symbolic tearing image ep23. Big moment which I know will be focused on later. But it is so freakin odd that we see them so normal in their daily activities..as if nothing happened. Not a slight visual hint that either one is troubled... I praised how in ep, 23, they showed tohru face worrying abt bits & pieces here & there. These visual hints connects the plot.. For a moment I thought Cinderella play is a filler!! but I don’t think so, since 3 major things happened (Tohru’s near confession, machi’s opinion of yuki, arisa’s recorded outburst) two of which dealt with this ep. I know they want the focus to be on yuki, seeing that his plotline is moving smoothly without awkward breaks, but why not smooth out the other’s plotline with minor visuals without the jarring jumps. Ending ost is not automatic shifts in continued plot. Oh well, it is a minor thing I felt, no big deal.

-Machi pov is here!:

I never expected to see machi today! nice surprise! So machi is not only lonely, she lives alone! that’s odd & tragic! how can a junior high school student live alone? since when was she living alone? & her mom calling to check on her or insult her or scold her! I never wanted a phone call to end this fast. Machi’s monologue was amazingly done. Rather than describing her feelings to us or stating what we are already seeing, the words came cold.. automatic.. slow.. without much emotions. Exactly imitating how machi feels abt herself. DULL. She never thought abt things such as fave color or fave place. never thought abt anything that requires personality or preferences. The imagery they used while she was walking in the street is epic! It explained her mentality! honestly even if she said nothing around that time while she was walking, the image would’ve done enough! Machi was able to see the change in yuki cuz she was able to sense that yuki too was dull/boring or felt he felt so. Now he laughs, jokes, interacts, & joins outside school activities. Negating the dull persona. Now, it is only her. machi questions if she can do the same but her question comes out loaded with her negativity. Instead of can I do the same? it is “ why Am i here? Her bad habits are pulling her back & resisting the change.

- Since they’re deciding to embark into the romantic aspect of mach/yuki & to further add contrast to his interaction with tohru, machi is shown so struck by yuki’s presence, she falls. Typical romantic moment that I appreciate for machi who thinks she isn’t typical girl. but dull girl. Yuki finding the leaf & being happy that she treasures it adds to his self-esteem as it tells him that he is worthy to be treasured. I love machi’s indecisive responses! It gives her personality! as she is reluctant between denying or telling the truth. She was never in such situation, so she doesn’t know what to do!! blushing red like her leaf, machi didn’t only go with friends, she also learned her fave color! yuki, developing the future boyfriend detective sense like kyo, guessed it that machi likes red. You remember things abt ppl you find interesting! Machi felt that perhaps to yuki she is not dull, but interesting enough to want to learn things abt her!

-Tohru is a grown woman!!!

trust me to take 5sec interaction that involves my girl & write a deep analytic paragraph! Call it building sandcastles out of nothing but I don’t care! XD. tohru deserves some spotlight! I’m a bit disappointed that the scene is shown form a far to include yuki & shiggure..(WHY???. They can have their moment later! let my girl have a screenshot for a change!!) & the art quality is the lowest in the ep, lol & but whatever~~~ let’s focus on the positive side! my tohru bought sth for herself!! tohru who spent her hard earned money on buying candy ingredients for the filthy rich sohma’s instead of paying her tuition fees?!! tohru who wore a worn out swimsuit for school & didn’t see the value in buying new one ?! tohru whose school bag have seen better days as hiro said?!! tohru bough herself a scarf with pompom!!& she’s PROUD!! & she goes & shows kyo!!!! cuz she loves him & cuz in SE01 he was mad she doesn't buy herself stuff & cuz she knows he’ll be proud of her & cuz she want show off her cuteness & get his attention & cuz she wanna tease him!! Did you see my girl deliberately hit him with the pompom??? my girl is feisty!! She teases!! Tohru has this feisty, forward personality that she hides but peeks in certain instances!! Like when she teased kyo that he’s still scared of the stain on the wall..like when she calls him cute later this ep!! I’m so happy for every tiny teeny moment of tohru where she is herself & not the worrying mom or friend, when she is focused abt what she shows & what she wants & right now she wants kyo to notice her! GIRL HE ALREADY DOES! you are killing him already tohru..he’d be dead by now if he wasn’t a cat with 9 souls! XD.

-Yuki is leaving Akito’s side:

coming to the big moment in this ep. Akito is loosing yuki. Not only yuki decided by himself to attend the banquet that he avoided last year, he also talked to akito & forgave him for everything before. Yuki is letting go of the past. Forgiveness is a cure ppl! it’s the hardest achieved cure. it cuts the ties to negativity & free the person from the painful feelings. Akito knows she’ll be loosing a zodiac member soon! she reacts the same way she did with hatori! violently resisting change, violently making a statement that I’m the ruler of you. However, unlike when it was hatori, no one came to her. Kureno stopped her. but the rest went to yuki, to the rebel, to the one who caused her pain & rage. Akito is not only loosing yuki...she is slowly loosing all of them.

- Yuki continues the next step in his growth & frees hatori from his sins. By allowing himself to accept that he is not a helpless victim, yuki was able to see the others plain as well. Before, in his mind, he was the only one suffering, others are cruel, but now, he sees the criminal who erased his friends memories was also suffering all along. Perhaps yuki thinks that akito is suffering too? That’s why chose to forgive her & tell her that I don’t hate you anymore or hold grudge.

Side Notes:

I’m so glad kakeru had so little to do with machi & yuki interaction here. He is a character that demands spotlight & if his role was bigger, machi would disappear, it will be another yuki/kakeru moment. Also, since machi/kakeru parallel aya/yuki, you bet kakeru will be more involved between them in order to get closer to his sister & fix the gap like aya did, so I appreciate the moment of only yuki/machi now as it is unique moment without any parallels involved.

After learning of Shigure’s correct line, I can now see how things would’ve been better for akito, if she learned from yuki’s rebellion. loosing one is less painful than loosing them all, which she will. Shigure was eager for her to be spared the pain. or he might be eager for sth else entirely! but he wants this to end.

Shigure sure wasn’t himself this ep! he was restless & his jokes were all over the place, he nearly caused a misunderstanding between hatori & Mayko. I think shigure is hearing the curse breaking!!!!!

Rin & kyo!!!! I never knew I needed this!!! like last ep, I was celebrating hana & kyo, & the return of kyo & haru!! but rin & kyo is unique duo since it is not a teasing dynamics! it is a we-are-too-similar dynamics! XD

Kazuma is luv!! ugh!! my heart! what a man!! so caring & kind & ever so gentle! look at him going to rin to invite her! no kid should be alone in new years! look at him teasing his son!! look at him out polite tohru! just look at him!!!

I appreciate that the boys (kyo,yuki.haru,momiji) have different body types from each other. however, since kyo’s body changing is mentioned in the story many times, they focused on showing him growing since the 2nd ep of season 2 & more so in the beach arc & they steadily continued ever since!!! this ep, even with the low quality they showed his Adam’s apple & he is taller next to shishio. Also his baggy clothes help defy the lanky art style. With yuki, since his beauty is mentioned in the story, they’ve been focused on his face, giving him HD quality beauty all the time, but not much when it comes to his body. but today, he looked a lil bit older in machi’s scene? I duno if it is the new clothes or they’re finally allowing his body to grow?! I hope so. They are still making him so lanky as his legs were only a bit meatier than machi’s in the fight scene, but hey lankiness is the show’s art style, just look at hatori </3. They focused on making Momiji baby as it is mentioned in the story that he doesn’t look like a highschooler at all, but I swear he looks a bit older this ep!! right???

Speaking of hatori, hello there~ doc~ I never knew I needed hatori in Japanese clothes this much! It hid the lankiness & gave him the adult manly look he deserves!! so hot!!! I heard his grunt in my heart as he took his clothes off! XD. Soyou’re attached to the school sensie now~~ a lit bit worried your filthy buddy is putting hands on her..huh? oh!, if only you knew that your goofy pal is the master mind behind your new love story! I think he knows tho~

I never expected machi to be that cute!!! machi/yuki is so cute!

Rin sleeps sitting...like a horse? rin didn’t feel haru? i thought horses are as jumpy as cats! lol

Tohru & kyo are having quality flirting time with no interference from either shigure or yuki. lol.. shishio is amazing! XD

Kureno has the DVD now..let the war begins!!!

An opinion I’ve been sitting on forever: Vanessa should’ve ended up with Monty and not Ferb - it really seemed like “ah yes let’s throw ferb with someone” rather than a good development to me (though I love this series with all my heart)

I love Monty and I think he and Vanessa had the purest relationship ever, but I gotta disagree there. There was always something going on with Vanessa and Ferb. You see it every time they're together — which, admittedly, isn't often, but the fact that it's so consistent makes me think Ferbnessa has been endgame since day one. I started writing this out as like one long paragraph but it got long so have some bullet points because I am a benevolent Ferbnessa shipper who values comprehensable writing

The first time they met is in I Scream You Scream, and Ferb was so awestruck by her that he accidentally took home the blueprints for a death ray instead of an ice cream maker.

Ferb goes out of his way to help Vanessa get the pizzazzium infonionite (is that what it's called idk I'm too lazy to google any of this) in Vannessesary Roughness even though Vanessa tells him she doesn't need help cuz she's a big haymaker in a title fight, she's a big black kitten with a nasty bite, she's an action double feature on a Friday niiight and she kissed him on the cheek to thank him.

Night of the Living Pharmacists isn't very shippy but I've seen it a million times so I have to add that when Candace and Vanessa ran into Phineas, Ferb, and Isabella in the lobby of DEI and they did that "Candace!" "Phineas!" "Candace!" "Isabella!" thing, Vanessa's the only one who acknowledges Ferb which is kinda sad because Candace acknowledges Phineas and Isabella but not her own step brother but we're not gonna get into that right now.

Vanessa was digging his ride from outer space in Chronicles of Meap.

And, of course, the most important one... Ferb and Vanessa are alone at the top of the Eiffel Tower in Summer Belongs to You. He tries to give her flowers but she thinks he left so she goes off with her dad — which is shocking because, you know, a boy, a girl, alone in the City of Love, I would've thought for sure romance was a foregone conclusion! Isabella's head explodes

tl;dr: Montessa is literally the cutest ship in all of existence, but Ferbnessa has been in the cards since season one and it would have been weird if they didn't end up together.

Drawing this while waiting for my eight hour flight back home and I got to think of a little story for Christmas event.

(Forgive the poor quality of this drawing, I swear i didn't thought the pen was broken. Also forgot that Floyd hair is on the right side.)

STORY {Headcanon only} HIGHLIGHT :

Floyd as Santa Claus, Kalim is the Elf, and Malleus as the Christmas blessing.

For starters, I think Cowley will ask the students if anyone wants to be the Santa this year. Floyd would jump saying that he will, which surprise Jade and Riddle who were in the same class.

When Jade ask him about this, Floyd would say, "Cuz last year was fun! I wanna to try it! ", Riddle would scoffed saying last year party was chaos and Floyd can never take his responsibility as the Santa Claus.

Kalim fully take his role as the elf. Although Jamil is concerned Kalim will sure make another mess (come on give him a chance!) and Malleus finally can be included in an event after Lilia said that he should give it a try.

Next day, Floyd meet up with Kalim and Malleus to discuss about the Christmas party. Every year Night Raven Collage held this party and is hosted by different theme according to the committe wish.

Floyd wants to have a fun and loud party like last year, while Malleus wants to have a peaceful and calm dinner. Floyd complains saying the theme is boring and nobody wants that. Malleus disagree on the loud and fun Christmas party, because it lost the value of the gathering.

The heat of the argument keeps rising and Kalim is trying to tell everyone to cool down.

"If you really are the Santa for this year, then I do not wish to participate with someone who doesn't listen to others wish." -Malleus.

Kalim will have to break the argument, but Floyd quick to take his anger out of the room (he didn't want Malleus to zap him). On his way he met Riddle and about to tease him, but his mood turn sour again when Riddle mention about his responsibility as The Santa. He need to write down names of the good boys and the bad boys.

Pretty sure no one dare enough to get close to him, but a few who does doesn't deserve their good list. His mood rise again after he sees Ace tricking Raden into buying him food.

"Crabby, if you keep tricking Baby Seal I'm putting you on the bad list~ " -Floyd

"Senior Floyd!? W-wait I was just teasing him, there's no way I would do that~" -Ace

"You clearly did. " -Raden

"Okay, I'm sorry! Help me out!" -Ace

"Oookaay~! Crabby is officially on the bad list~! Since Baby Seal is cute I'll just put you on the good list~! "

Honestly he just do whatever he wants with the list.

When the situation was still grim the next day, Kalim suggest that they held a contest for this year Christmas theme. The students can choose between Floyd or Malleus, however got the most points win get their party theme come true.(NRC students competitive sipirt activated)

Turns out the party theme both of them wants have equal final score. Seems like not everyone agrees on the loud music and disasters cleaning, but also many wishes for a fun Christmas where everyone can enjoy.

Kalim gives them a wise speech about why Christmas is an important celebration. As a person who understands the values of having fun together. I think both Floyd and Malleus will take Kalim words.

They agree on combining both theme, where they have fun with the celebration while enjoying a calm Christmas together.

The day of the event, everyone make their wishes and Floyd as the Santa will give each student a light ball so they can decorate the tree together. And the final night he have to give the good boy list presents, while the bad boy list a coal (he switch it up to candy. What? He's on a good mood)

Jamil impressed with how things didn't become chaotic, considering Floyd is the Santa. (Secretly proud of Kalim manage to warp all the presents in time without needing his help)

Lilia was so happy when Malleus light up the tree as the Christmas blessing. Reminded him of the old time where little Malleus would burn half of the Village because he’s too excited.

The students can enjoy the Christmas, eating the meal, exchanging gifts and dance along to fun music.

The end.

Why Floyd as the Santa?

One, this boy doesn't have an SSR event card give him something. Two, I enjoyed the thought of Floyd, probably the most selfish character, actually think of things he would do with the presents. Some may find their Christmas present great and the others may have been traumatized. Three, they are a perfect combo in my opinion.

Floyd = Chaotic mood

Kalim = Chaotic but fun

Malleus = Calm but can bring Chaos

Kalim as the Elf?

I imagined the story take place after Scarabia Arc. Kalim would fix his mistake by being more independent, the Christmas event is perfect for him! Not only he can be more independent, he also can help Floyd and Malleus out of their problems. He's a party guy, but knows a party is to make everyone happy. I think Kalim would realized after the incident on Jamil and last year Christmas party not everyone enjoy it to their fullest. So him suggesting the contest just proof of the point.

Malleus as Christmas blessing?

Malleus the least idea I have. I don't know much about Christmas, mainly because I don't celebrate it. But there is this one Barbie Christmas movie that talks about the value of Christmas. So I thought, Malleus probably know about the value of Christmas, friends and family together. Imaging him and Floyd starts fighting because of this really fire up my mood. Malleus is not wrong about his idea of Christmas, but I think this serves as a reminder of him the same things again and again can be dull. So he opens up to the idea of a merrier party.

StarPre Ep 29: Planet Saaman, the Frontier (??)

Alternatively, “YEARSH, MOAR LALA!!”

Sooooo many things to discuss about this episode (yay!) as I expected as much with going back to Lala’s homeland.

Therefore, I should go through everything efficiently (ahahaha~).

*cracks knuckles* Let’s begin!

1) Saaman, a world ruled by AI + Lala, the anomaly

I believe by now, most of us have consumed enough media to understand that a utopia run completely by a computer is NOT the ideal world it paints itself to be.

While there are certain perks in efficiency, the lack of freedom, authenticity and most importantly, the limit on a person’s individuality and true potential (among many other things) are so alarmingly concerning that such a reality is not worth it.

However, Saaman is just that. Its citizens not only thrive on their reliance of the AI, they are also super (!!) content with a machine deciding every single aspect of how they live.

Which suggests that Saaman’s current social infrastructure and foundation must have lasted quite long already (probably centuries) for the entire population to rarely, if ever, question the decisions that AI “Mother” made for them.

Save for one. Our lovely Lala-chan.

I mean, can you blame her for not going along with the norm like her family and fellow Saamanians do?

AI Mother’s evaluation of her determined that she was most suited to investigate garbage.

After everything we’ve seen her done, how much she’s experienced and grown on this journey, of course, she can never be satisfied with that!

Lala deserves SO👏MUCH👏 FRIGGIN’👏MORE👏 (give her the galaxy!) than to sit hours upon hours sorting through junk!

Unfortunately, given the longstanding situation and culture of her planet (again, a reminder that the people of Saaman have no problem with this lifestyle), it would be incredibly difficult for anyone to actually voice their opinions of disagreement with Mother’s decisions.

Especially Lala, whose parents are big shots in Saaman and older brother is the poster child/epitome of Saamanian values.

When the majority of your family is so ensconced in societal conventions, it’s not surprising that they would push the “lesser” relative to be more like “everybody else”.

Please don’t make the mistake that this means they don’t love and care about Lala because it doesn’t. It’s so obvious that they worry for her and only want the best for her.

BUT! It’s also obvious that they don’t really know Lala nor can they be considered close to her (she calls her parents by their given names instead of simply “Mom” or “Dad”, for stars’ sake!).

Lala’s family doesn’t understand her or her unhappiness with her assigned role on Saaman. They’re so content with their own jobs that they fail to see anyone else can feel differently about theirs. So the only solution they can think of to “help” Lala is to push her further into it, believing that eventually she’ll become content.

It’s something that happens to a lot of people and perhaps the reason why Lala left Saaman in the first place. She couldn’t exactly rebel so she ran away from the pressure on her spaceship. Maybe she didn’t intend to be away for an extended period of time but still, she left hoping to search for something that Saaman could not, would not, give her.

Then she fatefully bumped into Prunce and Fuwa running away from the Notrayders, met Hikaru, became Precure and the rest was history (or rather, destiny~).

At least, that’s how I see it.

2) Madoka relates

Y’know, at first, I thought Madoka empathizing with Lala’s discomfort was based on their similar upbringings.

Despite how close Lala and Hikaru are with each other, it’s Lala and Madoka who have the most in common out of all the other members of their team and I’ve been waiting for the writers to touch on that for some time now.

From birth or early childhood at the very least, everything was already decided for them. What they will be when they grow up, what their routines will be every single day, what expectations they’re supposed to fulfill, etc.

It’s a suffocating position that doesn’t leave a lot of room for argument and what shaped these two girls into having very detrimental perfectionist outlooks before that changed after meeting Hikaru and becoming Precure.

And now that Lala finds herself under stucky circumstances with her family, unable to enjoy the same openness with them as she does with her friends, I thought Madoka was going to try to encourage Lala not to let that get to her. She’s going through the same thing with her own father, after all, so if anyone can tell Lala’s going through a hard time, it’d be Madoka.

But turns out, that’s not quite the case here as the issue lies with them keeping their Precure identities and duties secret from their families instead.

Which is fine because at least Lala still has someone who can understand her on that.

Anyways, it’s a problem because being the upstanding, honest and serious types they are (majimeko) and both coming from families with high reputations, it’s really difficult for Lala and Madoka to not tell the people who are important to them about another part of their lives that is very important to them.

For Madoka, she feels that she’s betraying her father by hiding the fact that her friends, the very first and truest friends she’s ever made, are either aliens or helping the aliens avoid being caught.

For Lala, she’s torn between her duties as a Saamanian and wanting the acknowledgement of her family and community against the desire the protect her friends from the consequences of acting on the former.

And they are right when they suspect things would probably be worst off if they were to reveal that they are Precure.

Sure, they can probably expect to receive some more substantial support from the officials of their home planet (more from the Starscape Alliance than Earth’s government, sorry Madoka)...but at what cost?

The Star team can operate and travel smoothly throughout space precisely because nobody else is aware of who they really are. If they reveal their identities, there’s no doubt they will be targeted to be controlled.

Because sadly and not to get too political or anything, that’s just what governments do. They have to control the situation, they have to think about the interests of their own countries and more often than not, they extremely suck at it and turn everything into a huge mess (and this is just massively simplifying the general for length).

If they let other people get involved, the team’s balance and even their friendship will likely absolutely be affected and strained because no way will the universe at large care about a bunch of girls getting along as much as they do about using them for its own needs.

Which I’ll get more into on Point #3 below.

But for certain, that’s one of the reasons why Lala and Madoka are unable to tell their families about being Precure.

Yes, it makes them very uncomfortable to keep this huge secret...a secret.

But at the same time, it feels even more wrong to expose it because once that happens, nothing will be the same. Nothing can stay the same.

Even if they avoid all the worse case scenarios, the ones who will definitely suffer the most will still be the girls.

Perhaps that sounds selfish because they’re putting their friends above everything else but it’s not like the Star team isn’t also doing their best to keep the villains at bay while trying to save the universe at the same time. And they’re already doing an exceptional job without anyone breathing down their necks about it.

*cough* Sorry, getting off track a bit.

Anyways, the point is, they’re following their instincts this time which is a BIG deal for people like Lala and Madoka who have tendency to lean more towards logic.

After meeting Hikaru, after letting Hikaru teach them about valuable things they didn’t know before, both Lala and Madoka learned that there is much more to the world than the structures built around them.

Sometimes, the right answer doesn’t lie in the data or the rules, cold and fair in judgement.

Sometimes, simply trusting what you feel is just more correct.

Nobody ever said doing the right thing will be easy (in fact, many times, it never is) but the heart can never lie to you after all. And it’s even more dangerous to ignore it and live through the regrets afterwards.

So which would you choose?

Going with what you feel and doing everything you can to get the best outcome? Or choosing the opposite, knowing that doing so, the best outcome becomes more impossible to achieve and you can only hope for the best of the worse?

Eh..my phrasing isn’t very good but you get what I mean, right?

Anyways, it’s just very meaningful for Madoka to be the one to say these words to Lala.

I wouldn’t say she and Lala have completed their personal journeys yet (we still have like 20 more episodes to go after all) but I do believe that this particular moment marks a very significant point in their arcs.

Having been exposed to more of the world out there beyond their own, they would never go back to being the same Lala and Madoka from the beginning.

They are still unsure about whether their choices will lead them to what they’re looking for but they both know there’s no point in looking back. They can only move forward, trusting in what they feel as right.

Which it will be and not just because this is Precure but because it will leave a very bad taste in my mouth if I wrote all that and the right doesn’t end up prevailing. :P

3) The next step...

I’ll give you a straight up “NOPE!” to that, Pops!

Apologies for letting some of my RL views seep into this post (though can you blame me when it’s been disaster after disaster out there?) but I’m positive that “joining” the Starscape Alliance (their terms, not Precure’s), no matter how well-intentioned they are, will hurt the Star team more than benefit them.

Again, cuz it will allow busybodies to unnecessarily butt into their affairs and make things harder for the girls than they already are.

Moreover...

This is just Lala’s boss being an incompetent ass-for-brains idiot but if the Starscape Alliance is anything like him or even thinks remotely like him, then the Star team coming under their control spells doom for all.

Seriously, this is another level of messed up stupid. They just got terrorized by a flamboyant tengu woman and the person he accuses of trying to steal the Princess pen is Lala?! Even though the wrecked video footage is NOT enough sufficient evidence to point her as an accomplice to Tenjou? Even though Lala’s safely holding onto the pen in the aftermath, is noticeably NOT running away with it and showing concern for her boss?

WHAT THE SERIOUS FUCKING FUCK?!?!

That said, I hope that in midst of all the chaos of next week’s episode, Lala’s family will at least refuse to believe Lala is a thief and try to find a way to talk to her to know what’s really going on.

Because if they can’t even do that and join the chase to jail their own daughter, then I have another concern to worry about and will immediately fly to Saaman, lay waste to it, take Lala home with me and file to adopt her as my own child (don’t laugh).

But seeing how Lala fought so hard, despite her awkward relationship with her family, to make sure Lolo’s efforts weren’t for nothing, I’m sure it’ll be alright.

Having both her parents and Lolo come to understand Lala would be ideal...but if not, then either one or the other. I’m banking on Lolo atm since he’s her twin but he can be the type who chooses the system over his own kin, too, so...

The screentime we were given just wasn’t enough for me to grasp where each of Lala’s family members stand on their respective relations with her so I can only hope for the best. :/

Ooo, and also, Cancer Star Princess gets revived next week! Yay~! :D

U guys wanna know what I think about that hell hotel show

I feel like twitter’s very tired of seeing ppl talk about Hazbin Hotel, so I putting my opinions on tumblr where they belong. I’m not a “professional critic” by any means, but I’ll try my best given what I know. And don’t worry, I’ll be incredibly nit-picky to suit the internet’s needs.

I’m gonna mainly focus on HH itself instead of Vivzie’s accusations because that's a WHOLE other can of worms to open.

During the time of me writing this, I haven’t watched any YT reviews, but I’ve read a few threads criticising the show, so take that as my social influence bias.

My ted talk is allllll below the cut. Enjoy~

Context:

My first exposure of Vivzie’s work was her “Die Young” animation that I came across around 2016. Instantly I fell in love with how “smooth” and lively her animation was, and especially the fact that it was hand drawn. Animation like that was extremely rare to come by (and still is) and seeing her execute it so well with such complexed characters was amazing to my fetus self.

A few years later and I see the first trailer for HH. I instantly went OH I RECOGNISE THAT STYLE AND THOSE CHARACTER TYPE DESIGNS and was looking forward to what it had to offer.

On “opening day” I watched the pilot ASAP to avoid my opinions from getting warped by all of the key-mash memes and post call-out bitching (literally the extremes of the HH opinion spectrum), and overall.....

I thought it was good.

Not ground breakingly amazing, not horrifically terrible, but charmingly good.

(Ok now it’s actual review time)

Animation Quality:

As a hand drawn animation that has the freedom to get creative with its shots, a lot of effort was clearly put into how everything moves (it definitely didn’t take any lazy flash puppet shortcuts for the main sections of the show) and I can appreciate that. However it tends to be... rather inconsistent, most likely due to the varying skill level of the animators on the project. It’ll be nice and smooth one minute, and then awkward and choppy the next which can make the viewing pretty confusing at times. I’ll be honest I found myself overlooking these inconsistencies due to the characters and backgrounds themselves being very visually engaging, especially considering how over designed some of them can be (which I applaud the team for handling cuz wow that must have been painful). However, the needle thin and exaggerated art style makes some things incredibly hard to look at. While it helps with adding fancy details, it hurts in catching peoples eyes in the right place.

It’s also chalk full of little details, visual gags, and references that are hilarious to look at if you have the luxury of pausing every two seconds (the news segment and Sir Pentious turf war w/ Angel and Cherri are good places to look). But I feel like these lil details were put in at the cost of some some continuity errors (Charlie not wearing her coat in one shot, and having it back on in the next, papers being blank, etc.) and lip-syncing issues which really shouldn’t be happening considering all of the detail they were able to put in. There are also some shots that have just SO MUCH detail put into them, only to be shown for less than a second. I get that’s the cost of animation sometimes, but save the detail for the shots that need it, because at that point you’re just causing the animators to waste their efforts.

However, I was surprised at how professional the soundtrack and editing was. Not one but THREE songs in this single episode was really surprising, and the variation and quality of each was great (as cringy as Charlie’s song is)

But overall, the production quality is surprisingly good for a project like this, the editing, sound effects, and sound track act like a cherry on top. Of course there are some noticeable drops in quality, but given time and a budget, it has enough chops to look like an actual show.

Writing:

As far as overarching plot goes, it seems like it’s going to be one of those procedural shows that tries to be serialised, but it’s a creative twist on hell and has an interesting premise to begin with. You can get really creative with seeing how you’d dive into getting redemption out of all of these seemingly lost causes, and I’m sure there are many people willing to know the backstories our main cast. As a pilot, it did it’s job of launching the plot very well, setting up the premise of the hotel and introducing characters in a very engaging way. I was legit really interested in each segment with who in introduced, and it didn’t feel like I was being overloaded with names to remember (which can be a problem for many medias and introductions). The cohesion between each scene is VERY smooth, and I genuinely enjoyed some of the cliché cuts/gags.

Unfortunately I can’t extend this interest to our main character. Charlie is one of the most generic tropes we’ve ever seen. She’s a boring Disney princess who has a “cute happy positive goal to change her world” and the only thing that would make her more generic is if she wore a dress and cried “I’m tired of being so privileged”.

(Although it’s impossible to tell, I honestly think Viv is just projecting through her, especially considering how horrifically accurate the hotel’s opening mirrors the internet’s reaction to the pilot itself)

I would be more forgiving if she was a supporting character or someone less important, but she’s the freaking protagonist, arguably the character that has to be the most interesting. Angel’s personality seems to be “flirty porn star”, and while that’s just as bad as being a boring Disney princess, at least he gets a few jokes and has a profession more interesting than Charlie’s. Around the end of the pilot he just seems like he’s getting involved because Viv likes giving him attention. If he’s supposed to be leeching off of the hotel, wouldn’t not care if it survives or not?

(There’s that whole stereotype issue that everyone keeps bringing up, but I genuinely think that’s BS because people are blatantly ignoring the fact that Angel is a porn star, Vaggie is portrayed as helpful, and that the show takes place in H E double hokey sticks.)

The transitions may be smooth, but the dialogue pacing can get really awkward at times. This paired with the animation sometimes having awkward quality drops makes some movements incredibly jagged, and has some detailed shots show for incredibly unbalanced screen time as mentioned before.

I don’t have enough to give voice acting it’s own section so I’m just popping it down here:

The voice acting is legitimately better than several big name projects I know. It’s consistent, great at expressing the character’s mood properly, and each voice fits each character perfectly. My only gripes are that Alastor and Sir Pentious tend to grain on you after awhile due to them keeping a single tone for too long.

Character Design: AKA the only thing I have legitimate experience with.

First thing’s first. The characters are WAY too over designed. There are so many markings and accessories that are incredibly unnecessary. I think the mindset for these characters was “the more complicated and attractive the better”, which makes them look like they’re designed by an edgy tumblr artist (heck I fall for this too some times).

Especially if a character is going to be animated, you have to keep in mind the value of simplicity. You absolutely don’t have to fill in your character with markings and trinkets to make them look unique, I mean just look at the gen 1 pokemon starters. Thanks to the limitations of the game, the sprites were forced to be simple, and it was that simplicity that made them such unique and varied creatures. You can tell Blastoise is a bulky water blasting turtle just with a quick glance.

Many of the characters suffer from over complication, but I’ll look at Husk for example. He has these stripes all over him that do not contribute to who he’s supposed to be at all, and only look like they’re added to make him more unique. The markings that DO help are the little card suite marks on his wings, because those at least infer he’s linked to a casino/gambling type of theme. I would say his outfit helps as well, but formal wear and bowties are worn way to often by the main characters, which brings me to another problem.

They may look different, but they feel way too similar. From the same skinny body type, to generic head shapes, to outfits, the focus characters just don’t stand out amongst each other. Even the ones with interesting features still suffer from feeling generic. I’d say Sir Pentious is a good example of this. He has a serpentine/naga body and clever hair style that make his concept really creative, but his skinny body type, complicated eyes all over his tail, and generic “young but supposed to be at least middle aged” face just push him back into obscurity. He’s even wearing the SAME outfit as Alastor (who's an even worse offender of that generic face problem), and unless Viv has some plan to link the two, I’d say the characters need to stop using a dress code.

A successful character design can to tell you who the character is just by looking at them. You should be able to tell if a character’s personality, function, age, the universe they belong in, and if they’re important or not, and that’s a big problem when it comes to the background characters. If you pause on one of the extras for a minute you can see all of the effort put into designing them, and that takes away so much attention from the main cast. Not only that, but they have actual variations in their body types and outfits, which makes them more intriguing than who we’re supposed to be interested in.

Regardless, this pilot has potential, and if they can get someone to comb out the flaws, you can end up with something good. No one can deny a legitimate animation was made here, and the team successfully executed the start of a story, and that’s something anyone can look up to.

TLDR: The pilot is good. It has some major flaws, but it has potential to be a good show.

I don’t want to call it pessimism or cynicism but I don’t think it’s worthy of being called assuredness either but I think I’ve reached a point where I don’t care a ton whether people approve or disapprove (which is a good personal development milestone I feel) but for neither good nor bad reasons?

It reminds me of a Maya Angelou quote in that she said more or less that we’ll all eventually forget physical/objective qualities in things but we’ll carry the things we felt with us and I think that’s how I feel about the good/bad media stuff (read: this does not refer to morality) ‘cuz at the end of the day what’s to call any thing good or bad if a dumb story resonated and meant a lot to us and a wellcrafted one didn’t evoke anything? I think it’s then important to like move past those calling them shackles is edgy but y’know concepts and focus on what makes us feel happy and junk and that goodness is what we create ourselves in reaction to something rather than a number or subjective opinion from someone else

But like . On the other hand I will admit I reached this kind of peace by embracing some sort of extreme self-hatred in expecting to never be understood or agreed with thanks FE so consequently I play my cards so close to my chest that no one really has a real idea of what’s going on and most of what I “confess” about is really trivial meaning I’m giving the illusion of actually opening up without actually putting myself at any form of emotional risk

So I guess the tl;dr version is

Do I think everything’s goodness/badness is something we assign ourselves and what matters most of all is our own feelings of happiness? Yep

Did I reach this kind of peace of mind in a constructive/positive way? Nope

So what’s the point? Live and let live I think

so i watched this Fun with Dumb ep as a study break and it really reinforces why i’m so proud to be a Jwalker. i always enjoy listening to Jay talk in interviews and he always keeps it real in his interviews (swipe right on my IG post to see my fave clips from the podcast!) ppl ask me oh why are u his fan b/c he dances, sings, raps well? his abs? well heck yes to all the above but really beyond all of that, i appreciate Jay Park cuz of his personality and how he carries himself as a person. so here i am instead of studying, writing this appreciation post to the one and only Jay Park b/c it’s 4/25 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE MF BOSS, JAY PARK 💙💙💙🥳 !!! . thank you for being such a humble, down-to-earth, resilient, super hardworking (hustling all day everyday), dedicated, selfless, caring person. thank you for always doing you & for standing up for what you believe in.

like forreals Jay’s got such a good head on his shoulder and he’s a person with such good character and i really resonate with his mindset, outlook on life, values, and beliefs.

and i love that he keeps it 💯 with Philippians 2:3-4. Jay is self-less and i love that he looks out for other ppl, gives back to the culture, he elevates other ppl and helps them progress in their craft as well. and he said it best in his IG post awhile back when he said he “never hesitate to share game and show love and respect no matter who you are. just for the mere fact i wanna see everybody win” and in this podcast when he mentions he makes sure that he and other ppl are building something all together, rather than him being money hungry, he makes sure everyone is good.

Long time coming

Hey tumblr and blog from over 10 years ago....

This is a post that’s long overdue.

Well, where do I start? I’m 27. I work at a hyper growth cannabis startup called Caliva. I’m single. I’m living back at home. That’s the surface, “what have you been up to?” question and how’d I answer it.

To go off that, basically I officially finished my time at UCSD June 2018. I was ready to grow career-wise, not do one-of contracting gigs, and learn from larger companies and more experienced teams/products. And so I began the job hunt. Not to say that I took a huge break after graduating by just playing games for hours on end...

Job hunt was not as easy as I expected. I remember going into it thinking, well there’s tons of tech jobs and recruiters are constantly hitting me up. Surely, I’ll land an offer sooner than later. I promised my parents it’ll take 2 months after I began searching. I’ll tell you later how long it actually took.

So it’s competitive. Figured, right? Knowing that they pay high wages for the tech industry and want the best talent they can get. The gate was really at the technical interview and the fact that I was applying to mid to senior level positions yet I couldn’t prove my worth at the technical interview.

Here were the numbers that I remember off the top of my head: 55 days, 89 applications, 66 interviews, 8 on-site interviews, 2 offers.

I made the two months at least, right? Heh at the time, this was probably one of the most stressful times, and took me on emotional roller coaster for a bit. I didn’t question my self esteem but it made me question my ability as a programmer and that my personality doesn’t really cut it when it comes to technical jobs.... except my current job. But I’ll tell you when I get there.

My job was at Logitech’s HQ in Fremont. Super exciting opportunity, working in technology that I was at the time, really interested in. ReactJS in an electron app. And gaming industry? That’s the life right there. I worked on one of the most important teams, CPG - Creativity, productivity and gaming. So all the gaming mice; that was our shit. We designed the consumer software that controls your devices all in one cross platform app. It’s called LG Hub or Kiros.

Going into it, was super excited, given that they interviewed me in what I thought was the proper way - through a practical reactjs exercise. The interviewer there, Tom, ended up becoming my mentor at Logi. My team there was welcoming forsure and quirky. There was a guy named Jack Brindle who was obsessed with amateur radio... lol and only ever used apple products. Boris was by far the most interesting - Russian dude who did everything off the grid, loud as fuck, and spoke with no filter. It was like a hodge podge of personalities - someone once told me, where google and Facebook takes all the amazing tech talent with wonderful personalities, Logitech, an old tech firm, takes the leftovers. My manager Tanvi, was nice up front but I later realized she didn’t really know what she was doing because she kept people on the team who were way underperforming.

This all goes back to Tom. Tom really showed me the ropes. He showed me the different projects he was constantly building and iterating on, which provided value to the company where the management didn’t initially see. He exposed the flaws of management to me, in as much detail and unbias as possible. He chatted with me about the differences between me and him when it comes to opinions and beliefs. He taught me how to solve problems the “right way”. And not to cut corners, only to create more work for yourself later. I still have the utmost respect for him cuz he cares about the work he does, almost to a fault. I know that anywhere he goes, he’ll be successful as an engineer and I hope to work with him again someday.

That brings me to a point for a lesson I’d like to remind myself: stay in contact with good people in your life. Don’t let them always solely contact you, react out to them.

Going back to Logi, we were rebuilding a new JavaScript team and I was there during the prototyping phase so I didn’t get as much of a chance to actually code out the product. But I provided value in other ways - side projects like yarn integration, interview automation, front end docs, etc.

The story continues... where I basically get hit up by Johnny to go to this “green tech” hackathon. I wasn’t really down initially, especially when I asked mileung for his help and he wasn’t down... gg so... I ended up going, and coincidentally, Charisse misses her bus to her hackathon in sac town and so we end up telling her to just join ours. It was at Yeti LLC, home of Boris’s ex-gf Ellie’s company; fuckin small world. Charisse thinks of honesty a genius idea to make a mobile app to track sleep data and recommend cannabis strains and dosages to the user based on sleep inefficiency. We called it REMedy. Get it? Lol lo and behold, we actually end up winning... to my big surprise.

Amidst that, other than getting a bunch of weed and goodies, we get introduced to the host of the hackathon, Caliva. I was just interested as to why they chose us tbh. They seemed to be interested in my path to programming and why I enjoy it, coming from a psych background.

So... basically Caliva becomes really interested in me and I’m still at Logitech. Some hiccups here and there at Logi, with a confrontation with Boris about him calling me “not bright” and I’m weighing my options at both places. Definitely wanted to stay at Logi and try to get full time, but Caliva went all out on me. I told them I’d need my parents approval to really feel convinced of considering it. Matt, the CTO, took me up on it and offered my parents a tour of the facility. And btw, the facility is freaking amazing, unheard of. Calvin was like “what a time to be alive”, seeing my mom go into a cannabis cultivation room.

I consoled with my dad and he told me one thing. I could always go work for Logi, but there’s only a few times that you get the chance to work for hyper growth companies, and this is one of them. So, I really took his word for it and thought long and hard on this offer Caliva was giving. Made the decision thinking it was a good career move and an exciting opportunity to pursue one of my passions, wellness.

Here I am - it’s been 7 months since I first started at Caliva and it’s even been a bit of roller coaster ride here.

I was in an auto accident without insurance. What am I facing?

I was in a car accident yesterday. I live in California. I had no insurance at the time, although I was unaware that my girlfriend had not sent in my quarterly paryment and was actually driving without insurance for almost 3 months. The driver immediately infront of me had good damage to the back of her car and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. THe other driver in front and her passenger were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries and their car had minor damage when I looked at it at the time of the accident.
