As usual, one couldn’t tell if Sub-commander T’pol had taken offense; her face remained stony. “A wormhole is a warp in space that connects two separate, and often distant points in space. They were believed to be only hypothetical, but several species have encountered these phenomena. They are volatile and fluctuate. Once a wormhole opens it may only last for a few hours before closing, and it may not open again for several months. Because of this in addition to their rarity, very little research has been done on them.”
“And you’re saying we’re near one of these wormholes.”
“A two day’s travel at warp 3.”
Archer nodded. “Set a course. Hopefully it won’t close before we get to run some scans.”

Hoshi, Trip, Malcolm and Dr. Phlox were dining together in the mess hall.
“You don’t really believe in wormholes, do you?” Malcolm asked condecendingly.
Trip shrugged. “T’pol seems pretty convinced. The fact that the Vulcans believe it means there must be some kind of evidence.”
“If a wormhole connects two distant points in space, does that mean we could end up meeting species from a distant region of the galaxy?” Hoshi interjected.
“That’s the theory.” Phlox’s smile was cheerful. “Though that would only be if an alien ship traveled through, since we only plan to study the phenoma from one side.”
“I guess I might need to brush up on my language skills, then.”
Malcolm was derisive. “Oh come on, do you really think we’ll enocunter anything from another region? The whole idea is absolutely ficticious.”
“I guess we’ll find out in two days,” replied Trip.

Two days later Enterprise dropped out of warp. The long range scanners had shown that the wormhole had closed, but it still could be profitable to check out the area anyways. However the sight that greeted the bridge was rather unexpected.
Wreckage was strewn about, dead in deep space. Two interlocked, shredded cruisers of very different makes took up at least two thousand meters. The debris of numerous smaller ships surrounded the two skeletal monsters.
T’pol was the first to comment. “None of the ships match anything in the Vulcan database. Based on the scanners the wormhole could have opened on the wreckage, bringing everything here.”
“Or on the battle itself,” Malcolm commented. “This looks to have happened quite recently.”
“Any bio signs?” Archer asked.
“Four faintly,” T’pol replied. “Two of them are human.”
This took Archer by surprise. “Do wormholes warp space or warp time?” he mused. “Where are they?”
“The two humans are in small separate vessels. The third is in a damaged escape pod. The fourth is in a larger vessels than the humans’, though it appears to be entangled in other debris. They would fit in our launch bay.” 
Archer nodded. “Bring them in and tell Dr. Phlox to meet me in launch bay one.”

The craft were unlike anything Archer had ever seen, but rarely on this mission had he witnessed anything he recognized. They were badly damaged. Archer could see the pilots of the starfighters from the outside. They certainly appeared to be human, but what was more important was that they also seemed unconcious and badly wounded. Archer could barely see the fourth pilot, who seemed fairly human. 
“Trip, see if you can get that escape pod open. Malcolm, help me get these pilots out.”
It took a few minutes for them to figure out how to open the hatches. Archer and Malcom got the two human pilots out. Phlox took out his scanner.
“How are they,” Archer asked.
Phlox said nothing for a moment. “Get them to sickbay immediately.”
“Cap’n,” Trip called out. 
“What is it?”
“This girl’s leg is pinned. I’m gonna need some help getting her out.”
“Alright.” Archer turned to Malclom. “Help Phlox get these two back to sickbay. Then come back down with some help to move the others.”
Archer and Trip were carefully able to get the girl out. She was young, in her late teens, and obviously alien. She had orange skin, montrals and three striped head tails. Large bruises and gashes covered her.
“Her leg looks broken.”
Archer nodded. “Let’s see if we can get the last pilot out.”’
This proved to be difficult, but Trip managed to remove the debris from the starship. They coud see the pilot clearly now. It was a female that looked to be in her twenties, skin pure as snow, and maroon hair. On her face, underneath the skin are pointed, flat, triangular horns positioned at the top of her cheekbones, just before the ears, and and angled ridges above the brow bone. Her sleeveless outfit revealed bone spurs protruding from just above each elbow. Her lip was split, and metal debris had hooked through her rib cage. Archer cut the metal free, while some crewman gently lifted her out, and took her to Phlox.

Nearly two hours later Archer entered sickbay with T’pol by his shoulder. “How’re they doing?”
“By all rights they should have been dead due to the injuries they suffered. I’ve managed to stabalize their conditions. They should be waking up soon.”
“That’s good to hear. Are those two really…”
“Human, yes. The girl’s species I can’t identify, and the woman’s DNA is mixed with human’s”
“How is that possible? Two humans living in another region of the galaxy?”
“If the wormhole reached that far,”  T’pol pointed out. 
“I’m sure we’ll find out everything we need to know once our friends have awakened.” Flox gave his optimistic smile. 
The comm beeped. “Cap’n?” 
“Yes, Trip. What is it?”
“While we were looking through the ships we detatched three large cyndrilical objects. We gave them a little power, and well I guess you could say we woke two of them up.”
“Woke them up?”
“Yeah they seem to be some sort of robots. They’re talking in some form of code I can’t understand. Cap’n they’re acting upset, it’s taking some real hard work to keep’m in the launch bay.”
“I’m sending Hoshi. I’ll be down in a few minutes.”

It wasn’t long before Hoshi was able to understand them. She had quickly realized that the robots could understand human speech, it was only a matter of interpreting their responses. 
“He’s asking where Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi are.”
Archer addressed the droid. “We took the two pilots and the girl from the escape pod to our sickbay where they are being treated.”
The blue droid bleeped a series of notes. “It says they want to be taken to them.”
Archer nodded. “Trip, Malcolm, escort them.”

These robots, or droids as they called themselves, were an interesting developement. They were clearly extrtemely sophisticated technology, and it made Archer wonder how advanced these people were. Something about this situation made the Captain uneasy, not a feeling that their guests couldn’t be trusted. Rather, it was a sense that this could potentially be one of the greatest discoveries Archer would make in his life, and none of them would ever grasp what it really was.
