Arcane: The Toymaker AU - Stargazing

Reaching into his bag, Viktor took out what looked to be an old hand made telescope. Handing it to Jinx, he told her to point it at the moon; a bewildered gasp escaping her mouth the moment she focused on it. The image of the moon so close she felt as if she could reach her hand out and touch it, she could see all the craters in its pale white surface. “It’s beautiful, no?”  Viktor asked Jinx, looking at the moon. “It’s amazing…!” Jinx said, mesmerized, still looking at the moon with the telescope.

Viktor is trying his best to stay awake and help little Jinx calm down from terrible nightmares related to the monkey bomb event.

This is a new cover for chapter 1 of act 2! I resolved to make an (horizontal) cover for each chapter for now on, because it fits nicely on Ao3.

Modern AU Jayvik baby, Viktor can’t stop crying after they officially became their daughter’s dads 💓

Jayce and Viktor both wanted a child. They were happily married, successful, wealthy, but something felt like it was missing in life. Not friends, they had plenty, not work, they made themselves enough of that, not unhappiness in material things, they had anything they wanted.

People assumed… certain things. Surely two wealthy married men who’d invented biological gifts and created plant life like nothing else, would simply make a baby.

They did not do that. Refusing to consider it.

Instead they hid away from the public, making what was once their secondary lab into a child’s room. Jayce cried a lot, thinking about being a father, Viktor made fun of him saying that he was definitely the mother. They both finally felt that gap between them fill, decorating the room with a soft bed and painting the walls soft colors, Viktor took days and days, fighting his bodily aches to pain a correct star system on the ceiling.

They hid from the public for a whole year, only making a few appearances at important meetings.

But they didn’t hide from Viktor’s roots. They found their child, a small girl found malnourished and alone in a gutter who was brought to the overfilled orphanage that Viktor gave a percentage of his earnings too. They called her Rio.

Viktor loved her. Loved her soft green-hazel eyes, her tan skin like Jayce’s, her pointy little nose and her tiny ears. He loved the way she looked, loved the way she giggled, loved the way when they held her, she looked at them. Jayce was in love with her before he laid eyes on her, before he ever heard her giggle. Loved her more when she grabbed his finger, instincts or reflexes be damned, he knew she loved him back.

When they brought her home, a little bit after her first birthday, they didn’t let anyone know. The only people who knew about Rio were Viktor, Jayce, and newly named, Grandmother Talis.

Ximena had known the entire time, making sure they knew what it took to care for a bundle of joy. She was there when they brought Rio home, ready to meet her grandbaby “finally I get a girl! I get you, I get another son, but now I finally have a girl! And she’s perfect!”

Rio was two when they took her out in public for the first time without sneaking around. Dressed in her little corduroy pants and little brown knit cap, they took her out for a cookie.

Pictures were splattered across the front pages, headlines reading “Where’s the Talis Family’s New Member Really From?” And all sorts of things that pissed Viktor off.

Not for long though. Not when he had a wild haired little girl crawling in his lap with a new book to read or a picture to show him. Not when he had everything he ever dreamed of right there in their home, together and happy.

How do you think Viktor would be as a dad or father figure?

// Depends on a huge number of factors if he'd even allow himself to be a dad figure.

What I can tell you (after a huge amount of behind-the-scenes work) that in this version in my works, he'd definitely want to be a dad, but how? Not to mention that he has a terrible fear that he'd be a bad father.

But in reality, he'd be there for the kid(s) whenever they needed absolutely anything at all, even stepping into the territory of a helicopter parent. He'd be annoying. He'd be difficult. But he would have beaten his trauma-induced reactions of withdrawing whenever something became too difficult.

I think he'd be better at providing for kids' emotional needs compared to everyday existential needs such as who eats what for breakfast and at what time who needs to leave for school. Insane to think about. But he'd be very excited to teach kids about everything he knows, teach them morals and he'd do his damn best to inspire them to strive to achieve great things. It would hurt him very much if any kid just showed no signs of ambition. That would frustrate him to no end, until perhaps the teenager finally cracks his worldview and forces him to accept that they don't want achievements which he wants for them.

But I still think that anyone growing up under his guidance would be a little monster of ambition

If my math is right Viktor is about 25 in Act 1, Arline was 7. In Act 2 he's about 31-32, Arline would be 14-15. When Arline is 18 he is about 35-36?

momma Viktor who lets his kids paint his nails and braid his hair and papa Jayce who takes his kids on daddy daughter dates and teaches them things

Oh for sure

Viktor lets them paint his nails, braid his hair, do “makeup” on his face, built pillow forts, and does all sorts of dress up in his closet. He makes them snack plates, cutting apple slices into bunnies, making vegetable flowers, making sure they have cute but healthy snacks. He lets the kids put food coloring in everything. They often have green Mac and cheese and purple ranch dressing.

Jayce takes the kids to have “fun” breakfast which just means getting doughnuts and eating them in the park near the lake and watching the ducks. He takes them on trips to the museums and all sorts of places when they have to go deep into the city for Viktor’s doctor’s appointments.
