​(This is in regards to how TWOIAF in 2014 stated that Bellegere Otherys (Aegon IV's mistress) was the child of a Braavosi merchant's daughter and a male envoy from the Summer Isles, which was based on GRRM's notes that he'd given to E&L, but that same year when GRRM released Arya's "Mercy" TWOW preview chapter, he'd changed his mind and Bellegere was now the daughter of a Sealord's son and a Summer Isles princess; and because the books are "more canon" than TWOIAF, later editions were changed to fit:)

Anyway, I'm not sure it's just GRRM being horny that's the reason lol. There's probably a few reasons:

Bellegere has a Braavosi surname rather than a Summer Isles one, and Braavos isn't so feminist-forward that a child would have the mother's surname; and having her father's name further implies that Bellegere was not a bastard herself

There's certain racist connotations re a black man seducing an innocent backwater girl, even if he is a diplomat (or especially if?), which GRRM probably had second thoughts about

If Bellegere's Summer Islander parent educated her in the ways of their sexually free culture and religion, again the connotations are much more creepy if it's her father doing so rather than her mother (see also how the Black Pearl courtesan lineage is passed from mother to daughter)

So yeah, it's a bit hinky, but it's avoiding far greater hinkiness. When it's GRRM trying to balance problematic material (see also him thinking he should've made the Targaryens black and then going: "wait, black invading conquerers who do incest and have a streak of madness is also maybe not so good"), we've got to give him a little bit of credit, at least.

hiii so I'm drawing sansa while shes in her alayne stone disguise and I'm pondering how she would have dressed in the Vale and I wanted to ask your thoughts because i love your account so much!

My current headcanon for the Vale is 15th and 16th German-Saxon clothing, however this is what I imagine for the more highborn ladies, and while Alayne was still just a ‘bastard’ under Lysa’s care, she would have never been allowed to wear the clothes of higher ranking woman.

She’s regulated to the clothes of the lesser nobility, fitting for a girl who’s the daughter of Baelish yet still a bastard. Dyes and trims and prints are allowed, but rather plain compared to the luxury of the higher nobility of the vale. She also might cover her hair despite it being dyed, just out of fear her red is poking through

When Lysa dies and Petyr gifts all her clothes to the new de facto lady of the Vale, Sansa has a bit of an upgrade but still wants to keep a low profile and not step above her base born station. She’s allowed finer fabrics, her gowns are more carefully crafted and have more complex prints and trims on them, but she doesn’t try to be as gaudy as many of the other ladies out of fear of catching anyone’s suspicion. She’s properly noble but still flies under the radar

Also special folk costume bonus round for my dear @daenystheedreamer I know she loves Sansa in folk costumes. Worn by the common folk during special occasions, like festivals and weddings and such, and sometimes Littlefinger let’s her attend to blend in a bit better. Sansa enjoys them enormously, as the clothes remind her a bit of her own clothing from home (Russian folk clothing)

the fundemental split between weenies and sickos is whether they enjoy the gay trope of "im okay not being with you romantically/sexually, being your friend/close to you is enough". weenies love this un-sexual, emotionally intimate theme. btw calling them weenies is not me passing moral judgement i think this is fun and cute. however the sicko goes And what if person a dressed up as person b's heterosexual love interest and sucked them silly. What if person b marries person a's brotherand they have a fucked up insane marriage and person a is just like also there in the attic rubbing one out when b and brother are having weekly scheduled procreative copulation session. this is the difference between a weenie and a sicko. the weenie enjoys a pure expression of desperate, yearning, quiet love. the sicko enjoys desperate sweat-soaked hard painful passion. and both weenie and sicko are deeply human and feel so much love uniquely and importantly.

oh god. my immediate reaction is to say lys but actually i think thats one of the last places i would go… braavos is definitely high on the list as is pentos. but braavos is probably where i would retire for sure

oh how much time do we have. that one blond bearded guy as aegon the conqueror (aegon i couldnt grow facial hair as we all know), every lyanna fancast you guys dont know her, millie brady as arya who is that adult woman, i can stand katheryn winnick as visenya i just wish we could move on… anya taylor joy as shiera sorry shes not fat enough. TIMOTHEE CHALAMET AS JON OH MY GOD. if anyone was curious my favorite fancast ever is lucy liu as catelyn (REAL TO ME!) thank you daenystheedreamer. also i hate like any targ fancast because why is it a runway model every time. please guys

helaena doesnt even like aemond im sick of people saying her children are his. she does not give a single fuck about that man!!! i know book!helaena is nothingburger and this is about asoiaf in which she does not appear but im saying it. also shiera didnt even fuck with brynden like that either. sorry im passionate about this everyone needs to leave my girls alone AND!!! lyanna and rhaegar were not in love And lyanna willingly went with him as a means of escape and adventure this is my truth. also dany is not a colonizer please
