I think it would be fun if, along the lines of Dracula Daily, we had Dickens December, with portions of A Christmas Carol sent out daily from Dec 1 until Christmas. It’s a wonderful book, with narration that is by turns humourous, satirical, evocative, idiosyncratic, moving, and passionate, and the joy of the full text and writing can be missed even in the best adaptations. It would be fun to have it done as a tumblr book club the way Dracula Daily was, and see everyone comment on it a little at a time.

Does anyone know if someone is already doing this? I don’t think I would have time to assemble it in the next ten days, but if it already exists I would love to participate!

Christmas is coming, so what weird Victorian Christmas cards would Dracula characters send?

Mina Harker:

Mina, who hangs out in graveyards, sees no contradiction between the message on the card and the dead robin picture.

Jonathan Harker:

I'm going all-in on the fanon that Jonathan loves cats.

Abraham van Helsing:

He sends this post-canon with a jokey message inside. Van Helsing was never particularly good at reading the room.

Lucy Westenra:

Lucy selects this card for Arthur. It's romantic, isn't it?

Quincey Morris:

Quincey sends this to Arthur and Jack in memory of their adventures in Siberia.

Arthur Holmwood:

A relatively sophisticated card for the young lord, who always chooses Christmas cards with dogs on.

Jack Seward:

A sad kitten for a wet cat of a man.

RM Renfield:

I trust I don't need to give a reason for this one.

Fake snowflakes, both glass and paper cut-outs, are pasted to every store-front, and Christmas music plays over every speaker. It's all very loud, both visually and audibly. Regulus really, really hates Christmas. Enter James Potter, a Christmas lover and old high school crush. ❆ ❆ ❆ Sirius argues that he's an excellent pastry chef. When entirely focused at four in the morning, he's near enough perfect. Unfortunately, his attention is slightly diverted as soon as he walks in. Mister Cappuccino, Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Brownie. Aka: Remus Lupin, aspiring romance author and Sirius' current obsession.

Or, Sirius and Regulus own a failing bakery, Remus is writing a Christmas-themed novel, and James just wants everyone to enjoy the festive season.

As the Christmas season comes to a close, for many of us it's been a lonely time. You may be someone who is spiritually single and you may have felt lonely and forgotten. Others may have lost jobs, some have lost loved ones and others have no one to celebrate with. The pain is real. I want to encourage you and remind you that, “the message of Christmas is: God will be with you. God will help you. God will strengthen you.” His name is Immanuel, ‘God with us’ forever. Not only that, Jesus also said, “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20)

For those who have been blessed with families and jobs, would you reach out to those who are hurting and encourage them and do something thoughtful for them, not only now but always?
