You know what I've just realized while going down a bit of a rabbit hole about cat genetics? After reading a few of the fun Danny (and sometimes Dani and Dan) get turned into cats fics that are on here?

Dani and Danny probably wouldn't look terribly similar if they were cats.

If we go with the logic of Danny being XY male, and Dani being XX female of course but even then cat patterns don't tend to be identical even among identical twins.

Anyways this is about coloration, and how coloration is decided (in part) by sex when it comes to cats.

Basically Red and Black occupy the same slot on the X chromosome of a cat.

So male cats can only have Red or Black, in combination with white. The only cases of tri-color male cats tend to be some form of interesex most commonly of the Klienfelter's syndrome variety.

Female cats however can be tri-color because each X has a slot for a color, and color isn't specifically dominant or recessive with cats (though there is a dilution aspect which dictates if the color is darker or lighter). Instead while the cat is developing in the womb, each cell that will someday grow a hair follicle, picks which X chromosome gets to be active completely at random.

[Note that this is extremely simplified. I'm just trying to give you the basic rundown of how it works.]

So if we can assume that the only genetic difference between Danny and Dani is that one sex chromosome, and that their general genes are otherwise identical...

Dani would end up a tri-color, while Danny would actually end up some variation of a red and white cat. Not a black cat. As color is dictated by what's on the X chromosome, which he inherited from Maddie, who is a red-head.

So of Danny, Dani, and Jazz, Dani would be the only one to have any amount of black coloring as a cat. Danny and Jazz would both be some amount of red/orange, with varying amounts of white.

It's been five weeks already?!

Look who I have! This past week, I finished Danis's sprite and implemented him into the game.

Danis is one of the six planned non-romanceable side characters you will meet and interact with while you romance Zevlor, Rolan, and Dammon.

I hesitated to make full sprites for the six side characters, but it just gives me more opportunities to work on rethinking how I build sprite systems/make optimizations for the future. This game is my first swing at game development, and it's been a ✨learning experience✨...but it hasn't scared me away just yet!

On the scripting front, things are heating up. I'm approaching 20K words—with Zevlor's base route complete, Rolan's about halfway complete, and Dammon's a quarter completed. Originally, my goal was to clock in around 30K words for the whole story (including all of the small dialogue branches), but with how things are shaping up, it appears it will be around 40K+.

Anyway, that's the work that got done this week! It's now been over a month since I started developing this silly little dating sim, but I'm glad that I haven't given up yet. Being able to play out snippets of the game is incredibly mindblowing, remembering this was all just an idea about a month ago. I'm excited to see what state the game will be in a month from now!

HOLY SHIT, I KNOW WHAT POKÉMON ARCANE VIKTOR WOULD BE. In hindsight, it's so obvious: The Hexcore/Arcane acts almost like to a virus and warps and twists biology. How it's portrayed as an almost alien and eldritch force that corrupts and infects things. The Psychic connection. The Herald of the Arcane having weird and overtly alien/extraterrestrial aspects to his design…

DEOXYS.

(Specifically, I like to think Viktor starts as a normal Pokémon-but as the Hexcore's influence grows, his body starts to become more and more Deoxys-like: shifting to a bipedal stance (if he wasn't already), colors shifting, a more unstable form with his arms starting to turn into eerie living metal/biometal tendrils, the Hexcore becoming the gem-thing in his chest... Slow, gradual transformation from just a Hexcorized version of himself to a terrifying, alien force that possesses little, if any, of his original body. (Also, I like to think that he'd be a Steel/Psychic variant of Deoxys with the same purple/gold color scheme.))

(im still on the side of viktor is ABSOLUTELY an Eevee, which whole thing is mutation and adaption (its called the Evolution pokemon for god's sake) and my original thought was new fucked up ghost type eeveelution but god. deoxys eevee would be fucking INSANE)
