Summary: The glow of Paris spills through the open window, pouring a golden hue over the room as if honey drenches every surface. The air feels thick with it, so sticky and sweet that Alex wonders if it can be tasted on their skin. Time buckles under the influence and the seconds pass achingly slow, allowing him to chronicle every glorious detail.

The entire Paris scene from the RWRB Movie - from the café to the hotel - is just perfectly done and I have so many feelings about it. But there's the moment right as Alex and Henry begin undressing that's just overwhelmingly intimate and beautiful. I tweeted out that I could probably write an entire fic about that two second shot and the internet responded with more enthusiasm than i ever expected. So the joke was on me.

Regardless, here we are...almost 2000 words about 2 seconds of the movie. It's a self-indulgent feelings dump with absolutely no plot. Hope you enjoy.

Traffic Light Tag Game!

So many things, but going to pick this one: affectionately called "the saudade fic" was an idea I had mid-writing and posting Comment/Question, and it's been percolating for a while. Basically, Alex attempts to save a boy from drowning when he's younger, but he never knows if the boy survived, so in order to cope with the loss, he creates an imaginary version of the boy, who he calls "H", to talk to. Except you know, H talks back. And maybe isn't as imaginary as Alex thought when they meet (unknowingly) again in college. There's grief! Feelings of loss! And so much yearning! And coming to terms with not being everything to everyone! So many water metaphors! And takes place over a series of time, and playing with some timeline things, for funsies. It has all the things I love reading about in books.

I have a whole pinterest board of things that inspire the feelings I want to feel while reading/writing it, so it's grown a lot (lots of oceanic pictures - I'm also afraid of the ocean, so this is really a terror writing experience for me too!!) I also have an extensive playlist for no reason other than I love music to write to. But I wanted to use this quote, in the literal sense, as well as the emotional one in the book:

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for having saved me. I was drowning and you threw yourself into the water without hesitation, without a backward look.”

URGHGHGH so many things. Real life is very nightmarish, so finding time where I don't want to sit and disassociate is hard. I also have some pretty complicated feelings about writing and fandom at present and feel that maybe the idea might be too big for me to tackle (right now.) It's weird because the urge is there, but the words are all mucked up, and I just wish it was easier than I thought (this goes for all my languishing WIPs, too.) tl;dr - I'm tired, and I feel like putting words to paper is a massive undertaking for me. But I figured blabbing about it here to people might get me out of that stupid little rut and get more than 2-3 sentences on a page a month.

Henry doesn’t move, though—instead, he’s chewing his bottom lip and staring at the floor, pointedly not looking at Alex.

Or, five times childhood best friends Alex and Henry share a bed platonically, and the one time (of many) they do as something more.

wip wednesday

Thanks to @anyroomsrio for this week's tag and to all the other lovely people who tagged me in things lately, while I was severely slacking with my tumblr presence.

I have been working on a couple of things, but life keeps getting in the way, so progression is slow with everything. But here's a lil snippet from the sequel I'm preparing for my first ever fic 'Pearly Gates'. 💕

Surprise...it's about a pearl necklace!

He’s suddenly startled by the warm, smooth touch of Henry’s hand at the back of his neck. Henry’s fingertips trace lightly over the necklace—over Alex’s skin too—sending shivers cascading through his boyfriend’s body. “It’s fascinating, you know,” Henry whispers. “The thought that a simple grain of sand would crawl into an oyster and, with time, would turn into something so beautiful.” He pauses, eyes fixed on the pearls in the mirror, draped elegantly over Alex’s collarbones. “It’s not even supposed to be there—just this little intruder, irritating and foreign. But instead of pushing it out, the oyster just builds around it, coating it in layer after layer of protection until, somehow, it becomes this perfect thing—this treasure.” Alex is scared to even take a breath, fearing that Henry will take his hand away. But after a moment, he deeply inhales and lets his body lean back until he can feel Henry’s chest glued to him. “I don’t know,” Henry continues. “It makes me think—maybe the painful things, the ones that get under our skin and refuse to leave—maybe that’s what becomes something worth holding onto, something that makes you remember you’re alive. Maybe life doesn’t create beauty through peace. Maybe life forges it in spite of everything.”

Seven Sentence Sunday

Today is the last snippet of the Christmas fic I wrote for the Red Umbrella collection Frosted Pages & Snowbound Stories. This will be posted December 26, but you can find the first fics already posted HERE

"Shall we?" Henry asks with a charming smile. "Could you grab the dogs, love?" Alex nods, trying to ignore the warm flutter in his stomach at the endearment, quickly retrieving David and Stevie from the backseat. Once settled, Henry offers his free hand to Alex. They jog to Nora's front door, Alex managing the leashes while Henry keeps the umbrella steady above their heads.

They remain huddled close under the umbrella as they stop in front of Nora's front door. The small space beneath the red canopy feels like their own private world, sheltering them from the rain and the rest of the universe, if only for a blissful minute. Alex can feel the warmth radiating from Henry's body, their shoulders pressed together, and hands firmly clasped. Henry turns to him with a playful glint in his eye. "You know, one of us is going to have to let go if we want to ring the bell," he says, his voice low and teasing. Alex feels a rush of affection surge through him. He looks at Henry, taking in the soft curve of his lips and how his hair has started curling slightly from the humidity. At that moment, Alex is overwhelmed by how much he wants this and how real it all feels.

WIP Wednesday!

I'm cheating a bit today because this is no longer a WIP, but I can't share any words from my exchange fic and I haven't written anything else yet! But here's the snippet that comes right after my last snippet from Sunday:

“What do you think, love?” Henry asks Alex as he throws the stick off to the side of the enclosed area by the green fence that demarcates the off-leash area. “How long do you think we should aim to stay in London?”

“Good boy!” Alex grabs the stick out of David’s mouth upon his return and throws it out again. “I’d love to see more of the city this time, H. I feel like last time we were in and out.”

Henry ponders for a moment and Alex registers the unimpressed look on his face and the crease between his eyebrows. “We were in and out because that was the goal, remember? I’m not looking to spend any more time with my bloody grandmother than I need to.”

“But I want to get a chance to see it through your eyes, sweetheart.” Alex looks over at Henry as his expression changes. His ‘stressed out’ face turns into his ‘melting puddle of goo’ face, which was ultimately Alex’s main objective.

Do you have any ships in the ted lasso fandom that you enjoy? I just ask because most of your posts seem more interested in the gen side of the fandom. Are you more of a 'read about ships but write about gen' author? No hate, obviously, I'm just curious because that's pretty rare in my fandom experience! ✨

Thank you for asking! Sorry if this is a bit long. Answer to the last question is first and the ship list starts somewhere around the middle and includes some rarepairs that I think more people should give a chance

I’m pretty good and open to most ships on some level. I’m a ‘will try most things once’ sort of reader. However what I’ve learned about myself is that what interests me more is character dynamics and characters struggling with themselves rather than a lot of the popular romantic and/or sexual tension/buildup/catharsis tropes (slow burns, enemies to lovers, etc) I get why people read them, I’ve read them myself and enjoyed them, but I’ve come to accept that it’s just not what I personally want to write about

A few years ago I co-wrote a fic with a friend (the man from uncle fic), and my friend IS good at the slow burn, yearning, pining thing - in fact, hearing her talk about how much she enjoyed it and why was a big factor in my figuring out what I didn’t like about it and why I was struggling to write it. This is good! I think more people should consider branching out beyond the usual fandom offerings, but also that they should think about what’s not satisfying them and how find it- or how to make it themself, which is what I’ve been doing. Exploring the stuff I like to try to find what makes me happiest to write about

Which seems to be mostly jokes and psychological trauma with a side helping of people spending quality time with each other and supporting each other. And it turns out that a lot of the things I enjoy writing and reading (comedy, action scenes, ensemble dialogue) are the things that other people aren’t as comfortable writing, so I get to fill a niche as well!

Now. To go back to your question

I’ve always said I’d be interested in exploring what’s up with TedTrent. I think there’s a lot of intriguing potential in their interpersonal interactions and their overall dynamic as two middle aged divorced men. I’ve also commented before on the interesting parallel with Ted and Michelle and the way that Trent and Dr. Jacob both had very professional responsibilities to each of them, but whereas Trent gave up his career for the sake of doing right by someone he respected, Dr Jacob proceeded to date his client

I’ve also started a borderline crack fic that’s just Ted, going through a mild sexuality crisis, who keeps coming up with more and more euphemistic ways of saying he’s got the hots for Trent because he can’t quite bring himself to say it like a normal person ("He makes me want to ask my grandma for her blueberry casserole recipe" <- guy who has it bad)

Im also of course a big fan of Jamie, so I’ve read and dabbled in writing RKJ, RoyJamie, SamJamie, and DaniJamie, and Sam/Dani/Jamie. My take on Sam/Dani is that it’s a pairing that seems like it should work but i haven’t figured out what that looks like yet. Dani has a very hyper restlessness to him, and Sam a very calm one, so I think they would need to take breaks from each other

I’ve had half a mind for JanJamie as well, but I then I made up my own elaborate headcanon for my future fic so now I prefer them more as future coaching work husbands where Jan is very practical and steady and Jamie is the one with the creativity who inspires people and together they fight about football strategy until it’s time to go to their respective homes and then they do it all over again the next day. Which is the sort of wildly specific headcanon you can’t possibly expect someone else to have

I also made a post a million years ago about Jamie, Keeley, and Rebecca going to pride together and being confused for being an impeccably gorgeous queer threesome, and frankly I’m still here for that, although I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Rebecca/Keeley/Jamie fic in the wild. Honestly though, going back to what I said before: what I really want is the dynamic. I just want them to hang out together. Maybe I should send them on a spa day together — I already gave them a smoke break together, maybe after that they agreed on a spa day

Also BarbaraBeard sounds fun, for two characters who I don’t think ever met on screen. I feel like they would enjoy watching hockey together — and maybe Beard would forget about Jane if he found a woman who seems willing and able to deadlift him over her head

Whoever made that post years ago about how it looked like Colin and Moe were texting each other - you made a compelling point. Add to that the knitted scarf and Colin thinking Moe is the fittest one on the team, and ColinMoe sounds fucking adorable. They’d be so weird and confusing together and they’re both very passionate about very specific causes. I see it. I see the vision

I can’t believe I’ve never seen a word about DaniThierry. Come on. I’ve somehow had this in my pocket since season one and then season three gave us Dani smiling through being an absolute menace to him and Thierry being unbearably cringe but in such an earnest way (his “I like short walks on the beach” Bantr video fucking killed me I died)

And to cap off the list: I do like tedbecca, but it’s specifically the queerplatonic soulmate tedbecca in my head, where they light up the room for each other just by being nearby

Alex feels warm and bubbly at the prospect of someone being impressed with his creations. "Do you... want one?"

WIP Wednesday <3

Happy Wednesday, my dudes! Taking the open tag from @kiwiana-writes and getting this out of the way early so that I can focus on some graduate school stuff that is a lot less fun. Also, yes, I just put some text on a screenshot bc I have no artistic ability but I wanted a lil thing for wip tag stuff :/

jesus christ, ANYWAY. I'm still slaving away over writing one single thread of gold tied me to you from Henry's perspective - title is officially "hell was the journey, but it brought me heaven" just btw :)

Turns out, Henry has VERY complicated feelings in this fic and sometimes he absolutely refuses to talk to me. Which is fine. I'll figure him out eventually. Until then, here's a snippet <3

Maybe, if he treads carefully, they can stay friends. It wasn’t their entire relationship that he shouldn’t have partaken in - being Alex’s friend was one of the only good things Henry has ever done. Taking it further than that cherished bond was a selfish and alcohol-induced mistake that will haunt him for the rest of his life.  Chewing on his bottom lip, Henry is preparing to type when he glances up at the news broadcast in front of him and sees his soul mark staring back at him.  No, not his.  Alex’s.  A perfect fucking match to his.  No. It’s not possible.  Yet, there it is.  Henry knew, though, didn’t he? Alex, the only thing in his life that has ever made sense. Alex, the beautiful and bright spot in an otherwise miserable existence. Alex, who had called him upset on Christmas minutes after Henry had started feeling nauseous and called him in a panic in February moments after Henry had woken with a racing heart.  He’d ignored every single sign out of self preservation, refusing to let himself entertain an idea that was wonderful in theory but would ultimately only cause heartache. Alex’s soul being tied to his is a punishment to them both - Alex, for wanting a soulmate and getting one that he cannot have; Henry, for being in love before he knew and now understanding that he has to be the one to take Alex’s dream away from him.

Henry is eight, and he can’t sleep. The trees outside are too big, their shadows too scary in his window as the wind makes the branches thump against the glass. He rubs at his eyes before digging his head in his pillow again, hoping sleep claims him. From underneath his door, light filters in from the hallway—his mother is probably in the kitchen, grinding herbs and ingredients for her potions. If there’s anyone who can help him, it’s her.

Or, Henry shares special potions that he learned from his parents over the years with Alex.

i’ve been pretty awol from tumblr lately, but hopefully this is a good enough substitution for all the sunday sentence and wip wednesdays i missed

working on a 5+1 oneshot that i’ve been thinking about for so long.

it’s a roommates to lovers AU where the action mostly takes place on their shared couch.

it all started with me cuddling next to my bf and whispering ‘couch boyfriend’ each time he hugs me tight. it’s really a recharging method for me at this point and it felt like it’s something Alex and Henry would totally do. they just need to get to the ‘boyfriend part first’. 🤭

i also want to mix it with my ‘100 ways to say I Love You’ prompts, basically including one of the 4 in each scene. it’s probably going to be a whole lot of fluff and i hope people like it 🥹

i have the basic ideas for the 5+1 scenes written down and i know what i want those scenes to be and how to include the 100 ILY prompts as well. two of the sections are also mostly written.

i also made a small pinterest board for inspo and i keep adding to it. it’s mostly me looking for pics of people cuddling on a couch but there’s some quotes in there too. the most relevant ones i think are these two, just showing the way alex warms up to henry bit by bit

life, i guess. i’ve not been in a good mental place in the last month or so. maybe more.

my job is a creative one but my boss stifles that creativity. i often tend to dismiss my talent if things don’t come out perfect from the start (and they never do—it’s called trial & error, going through several iterations until you nail the perfect one)—but my brain still refuses to believe that.

so after a workday where my creativity is in the dumps, you’d think that maybe writing fic would save me, but no. i look at a blank page that often remains blank.

i have the ideas, i just can’t put them down into sentences. and that frustrates the hell out of me—the fact that not even writing fic can get me out of this creative slump.

but we persist and carry on. i have a holiday coming up next week so i hope to get a mental reset and then finish this baby up 💕
