Fun Fact
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Communications and Informatics has blocked the Tumblr site because it contained 60 sites of terrorism, extremism, and pornography in 2015.
I... spent years of my life thinking Julie and Billy were australian...
LMAOO well yeah, that's because the english dub changed it so they were australian because they wanted dan, runo, marucho and shun to be living in america as opposed to japan. the english dub localized a lot of the city names and character names in order for a western audience to relate to the characters more.
as such, there's a misconception that a lot of the characters we see in season 1 are american. such is the case with dan in particular, where you'll see that people think that he's soo american that he wouldn't like eating with chopsticks when he's canonically seen using them.
julie and billy are both american though, which you can easily tell in the japanese dub by the way they talk and the environment they live in. as i mentioned here the brawlers fly across las vegas on their way to julie's house, not to mention that both of julie and billy's throwing styles are visually similar to baseball pitches, which is the us national sport.
also this background is very sterotypically american lol
joe brown is actually called osamu jo and he was not hospitalized in cure city, he was hospitalized in kyushu, japan. dan's name is kuso danma, julie's last name is not makimoto but hayward and she wasn't eating chocolate chip cookies while they were visiting joe, she was eating japanese rice cookies.
localization removes all these moments and, in my opinion, makes it very hard for a western audience to really understand how these kids are from different parts of the world. but on the other hand, some of the jokes are related to the japanese language and can't carry over in the english translation so i understand that not all the jokes can make sense regardless of the dub.
Why don’t you ship it? Honestly I've just never thought about it. As far as I remember from NV, the only relationship they had was one of them leading the rebellion and the other... also leading the rebellion? Idk, I don't remember much of Mira actually taking up her role as leader once Danma "Daniel" Kuso shows up.
What would have made you like it? If Dan was at all a good person💀 /j BUT ALSO, iirc, Mira was always so focused on her brother that she didn't really get to build meaningful relationships with anyone else (I mean I don't really remember any meaningful relationships in NV outside of the Vexos but maybe I'm wrong). Just going off what I remember and what I've seen on tumblr since.
Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it? I'm sure it's nice if you really put in the work to show off how their personalities mesh.
Currently re-watching several shows again, all from different genre. Allow me to share my favorite characters in a random order
1st and most recent.
Peter Parker/Spider-Man from Spider-Man: The Animated Series
Just started binging this series again, and man do I appreciate this Pete's whole personality, something very charming about it. Plus, Christopher Daniel Barnes does god tier work as the web head. I want Spider-Man 98' mainly to hear him in the role again. Lord Please!!!
Side note, can't talk about a 90's Spider-Man with out mentioning the all new all improved Spider-Man
Peter Parker/Spider-Man from Spider-Man Unlimited
I know I know, It feels almost criminal to talk about Unlimited but use the classic suit in a photo instead of the Nanotech Suit he wears but hey...It's my list and I get to pick the photos, and it also lets me fanboy over how good the classic suit looked in this show. I appreciate Unlimited for what we got, but man do I wish I could see an alt. universe where this Peter had a normal adventure on earth. Not to mention Rino Romano voicing him, God Damn!! Perfection!
Let's jump ship a bit too a Nick toon. Bit of a departure from the web head right. So ya'll heard of Rugrats, it's a iconic nick toon from yesteryear, we'll we aren't talkin about the original, we're jumping into it's sequel, All Grown Up, with the character I enjoyed personally,
Lil Deville
Just when you think you have me figured out, I pull out a curve ball. I dunno why Lil became my favorite, but she did, maybe it was the "Twins becoming their own person" thing that hooked me. Not sure. What I do know is I feel she got robbed on episodes where she could be a primary focus. I know she had some, but it felt like not as many as the others did. Justice for Lil!
Oh boy, if you thought we made a left turn on Spidey to Lil, just wait.
Lately I've been in a toku mood as well, so I thought I'd go old school a bit and binge an older series so, let's fly a bit. "Sailing Jump!"
Tsukuba Hiroshi/Skyrider from Kamen Rider (1979)
Meet our 8th loveable karate bug man. Told you it was gonna be a wide left turn. Look at this mannnn!! Aahhh why's he gotta look so adorable!!!
Hailing from what was supposed to be a soft reboot of the original Kamen Rider, Tsukuba is a cybernetic human based on the motif of a locust. Remodeled into a cyborg against his will, he dedicates his life to fighting the forces of Neo Shocker. While it was meant to be a soft reboot, that flew out the window faster than the character could fly himself, when past riders made guest appearances. To some, Tsukuba is a character that seems as plain as toast. And to that I say, he's my comfort character in plain toast form!!!
Boy, the tags are gonna cause some mingling in fandoms with this one. Yes I know I didn't have much to go on about TAS Spidey, but that's in part to the fact that I just started the re-watch yesterday unlike the others. I just wanted to do some rambling and share some characters of random franchises I enjoy, and yeah, it's random alright.
Popping in one day later for two final guest characters
Scootaloo from MLP Gen 3/3.5
Gremlin. That is all.
Lastly, I have a confession to make. I know this is gonna sound weird but...My whole world changed one day when all these random cards started raining down everywhere. At first none of us thought much of it, so a bunch of us kids invented a cool new game!
That's when we realized those cards weren't so harmless after all. They were packed with incredible power from another world!
Дэн Кузо. Три слога, имя и фамилия, за которыми скрывается живой человек. Человек, которого Шун Казами знает столько, сколько вообще себя помнит. Точнее думал, что знает...
