📧 Day 114 (d) -

Characters - Scar/Joel Words - 638 Time - 30 mins Content - School setting

Joel jumps high in the air, clutching his phone tight as he fists the air. He cheers loudly by himself, beaming when gravity eases him down, even the wind brushes his cheek and ruffles his hair. Jealousy, he holds his phone to his chest, clutching his hand on top as he feels his heartbeat everywhere. 

His face breaks, hurting with a smile. 

When he looks back at his screen, re-reading the words over and over, his heart jumps every single time like the first time. Relief, a sense of achievement, suddenly fuller. 

Overcome with feelings, he falls to his knees, the joy shattering at the edges like waking up from a good dream. The curtains fall, the rug pulled from under him. His chest tightens, suffocating his heart where it once pounded with excitement. 

When he stares at the ground under him, thumbs across his screen, his reflection staring right back. His shadow falls over him, the world dimmer without the sun warming his skin. 

The tears follow shortly after.

This is pathetic, he knows. 

Oh, how he knows. 

“Oh, hello there!” 

Joel jumps, forcing himself to not turn around before rubbing his eyes with the cuff of his sleeve. It stings and scratches, burning over the scorching tears. He breathes in and out, willing himself back to composure. 

When he finally turns around, he sits on the grass, facing the sun blocked by Scar. He finds curiosity in twinkling eyes, something nice and gentle in his expression. Scar limps over, huffing as he drops his cane, carefully lowering himself on the grass in front of him. 

“Hi, Scar,” Joel greets, gaze dropping to his phone. His reflection stares back, but harder to tell apart from the sunlight. 

“Aw, you look very sad. What is wrong, Joel? Something you want to share with your good ol’ pal Scar?”

Joel chuckles, a little bitterly. They are not friends, and never were. In another lifetime, if they made different decisions, maybe they would have been friends. Now, however, Joel can only look up to the guy everyone wants to befriend. Such a cool guy, so approachable. 

Still, his mouth gets ahead of his head, “It’s nothing.”

“Oh?” Scar tilts his head, eyebrows raised with even more curiosity now. “So there is something to share! Do tell, Joel, do tell.”

Instead of talking, Joel unlocks his phone, handing it over. 

It takes a couple seconds for Scar to read it, and somehow, someway, his expression fills with excitement, almost pride. Joel tells himself he is imagining it, because surely he is. 

But then Scar is looking at him, right at him, smiling so wide. Joel freezes when Scar pulls himself over, pulling him in for a crushing hug. And he is saying things, praise and whatnot, nice things that he cannot even tell apart. 

Just sound. Everything is sound. Just the sound of Scar’s voice spoken into his hair and neck, nice things that sound so warm and soft and gentle. 

His heart is ready to burst, already forgetting the heartbreak of having no one to share the news with. His eyes gloss, prickling with tears again. They rain down his face, hot and wet landing on Scar’s shoulder. He raises his hands, taking fistfuls of Scar’s back as he buries his face into his shoulder, trying to bite back the sobs.

Scar places a hand behind Joel’s head, running his fingers through his hairs, his loudness taming at the change of moods. He holds Joel secure in his arms, smiling into his hair, and when he speaks next, his voice is softer.

“I’m proud of you,” he whispers, chuckling when Joel curls himself further into his arms. “You have done amazingly, Joel. You should be proud,” he nuzzles his cheek, lightly brushing his jaw with his lips, “very, very proud.”

MEGATRON ( Deluxe ) Movie Studio Series 114 *TRANSFORMERS ONE*

Seguendo a ruota il suo amico / rivale Optimus, ecco pure MEGATRON "One" esordire come Studio Series e nella nuova sotto scala Deluxe in cui hanno relegato i personaggi dell'ultimo film ( d'animazione ) dei Transformers.

Perlomeno i nostri due leader sono Deluxe alti, ma Megatron qui mi aveva tratto in inganno dalle foto promozionali, dato che il ROBOT pareva fosse di poco più alto di Prime, e invece è solo una mera illusione, per via della struttura longilinea del corpo, che si traduce in gambe un pelo più lunghe sulle anche e un petto più stretto che, di rimbalzo, in un confronto ravvicinato con Optimus, seppur alti uguali, lo fa sembrare quasi più piccolo!! ^^''

Fortunatamente il nostro novello comandante Decepticon recupera a livello estetico, in quanto fedelissimo alla sua versione potenziata e definitiva con il T-Cog di Megatronus, a livello di articolazioni con la posabilità standard cui va sottolineata la rotazione dei pugni e il poter piegare completamente i gomiti, ed a livello di accessori, con la torretta argentata sulla schiena, due laser gemelli ed un cannone corto a cui si aggiunge l'iconicissimo CANNONE A FUSIONE.

Questo però lascia un po' interdetti, invece, dato che sì, ha le fattezze della storica arma del G1, MA nel film lo si vede solo nella prima versione trasformabile di D-16, non in quella finale e potenziata dove si potenzia pure l'arma, con una forma diversa e la canna a 3 punte.

Come mai quindi questo cambiamento? Forse hanno aggiunto il potenziamento del cannone nel film in un secondo momento, quando il modellino ormai era in produzione? Forse hanno pensato che fosse più iconico questo cannone, per il giocattolo? Forse gli Hasbri hanno parenti che lavorano nelle ditte di add-on 3p e così fanno un favore a loro? ^^'

Non lo so! Ma è anche vero che nel film quel cannone viene distrutto dall'ascia di Optimus e quindi forse poi Megatron torna alla sua versione precedente, chissà. O sarebbe interessante se lo aggiungessero in seguito come accessorio ad una futura uscita SS di One: stavo pensando ad eventuale MEGATRONUS PRIME ma a guardare i concept non ha quel cannone come arma ( ed avrebbe avuto senso invece la somiglianza, vabbè ).

Il cannone a fusione, comunque, si può attaccare su entrambe le braccia a piacere, e viceversa i due laser gemelli, che di solito stanno appesi sul non ingombrante zaino / torretta: all'interno di questa può nascondersi parzialmente l'altro cannoncino, dato che si può ruotare la torretta sopra la testa mimando una scena del combattimento finale del film.

Sempre come nel film, il cannoncino può anch'esso sistemarsi, tramite un'apposito aggancio rettangolare, su entrambi gli avambraccia a piacere ( anche se a guardar bene il design, pare più uno dei due laser gemelli, vabbè ), oppure lo si sistema rovescio sulla canna del cannone a fusione, cercando di imitare così alla buona il cannone evoluto di più sopra. A sto punto, peccato che gli altri due laser gemelli non possano pure loro agganciarsi al cannone a fusione, ma in compenso possono sistemarsi negli appositi fori nella parte interna delle gambe, così come poi troveranno posto nel mezzo trasformato.

La TRASFORMAZIONE è interessante ed appagante, con le gambe che si allargano piegandosi internamente a metà cosce, ruotando ciascuna di 180° ed aprendosi per permettere ad i piedi di ruotare all'interno venendo sostituiti dai cingoli. Il pannello del torso slitta verso il basso, in modo da potervi ribaltare nel vuoto creatisi la testa, che si porta dietro il pannello che la sostiene insieme alle braccia ed alla torretta che ruota di 180°. Gli arti superiori ruotano e si piegano diventando i cingoli posteriori, mentre i pannelli delle gambe slittano fino a chiudersi e bloccarsi sul torso e le braccia, ed infine si agganciano il cannone e il cannoncino uniti alla torretta.

Il CARRARMATO CYBERTRONIANO risultante, ad essere pedanti, sebbene ne catturi l'essenza non è così fedele a quello del film, dato che i moduli cingolati anteriori un po' troppo lunghi, mentre la torretta è corta rispetto alla canna e sopratutto non al centro del veicolo ma in coda.

… Però forse è meglio così, mi azzardo a dire, dato che sennò era praticamente uguale a tutti i cavolo di tank cybertroniani con moduli laterali cingolati più grandi della parte centrale visti da TANKORR Beast Machines o Megatron Armada in poi, mentre ora sembra davvero più mortaio mobile, ed, ironicamente, qui si nota meno che le parti anteriori cingolate sono palesemente le gambe del robot!

Magari la torretta, quella sì, era interessante che si potesse allungare o che, ma non si sono sprecati manco a mettere le rotelline sotto i cingoli, così come la parte anteriore centrale di quello che era il torso è bella vuota sotto, e idem quando si solleva la torretta, che si vede la facciona di Megatron, ma, ehi!, almeno la torretta si solleva pure! ^^

Infine, ricordiamoci dei laser gemelli che a scelta stanno o sui fianchi del veicolo o direttamente ai lati della torretta, anche nella prima maniera sono una citazione al carrarmato di D-16 col T-Cog, e non alla summenzionata versione potenziata….

Quindi, fondamentalmente un bel modellino in tutte le sue modalità, ma stranamente non somigliante al 100% a come appare nel film ( PER ESSERE UNO STUDIO SERIES, sottolineamo ), essendo ibridato negli accessori con la sua versione intermedia: a sto punto tanto valeva fare davvero direttamente D-16 e quindi poi fare un Megatron definito e magari pure Voyager, a meno che sti furboni non vogliano far uscire davvero in seguito il DEFINITIVO Megatron di One dopo questa versione forse affrettata. Che dire se non un bel "Chi vivrà, vedrà", allora! ^^'

Ok so in my fic Slip I vaguely based Hydra off of a DOT-114 tanker because i could find the specification really easily they're sometimes used for pressurised gasses, but GOOD NEWS! I was wrong and also stupid :)

I've been recreationally overthinking this all day, for funsies. The interesting thing is, in Europe we don't really have H2 on the rails in that way yet- DB cargo is doing a lot of work there, but not in any formats that match up with the green bean. We know he doesn't carry ammonia or methanol because his fuel is usable without pre-processing, and we know he's not any sort of MEGC. The only other option in europe is cryocontainers of LH2, but they're intermodal- you can put one on a ship, unload it onto a lorry or a flatbed or whatever, and go about your merry way. so not that neither.

(sidebar: I know he is a creation of andrew lloyd webber's twisted mind and also a twink on rollerskates, but shh. im playing touys.)

The likelier option, imo, is that he's carrying cryogenic liquid hydrogen. This would track with some sliiightly older technologies (and i really do mean slightly) like liquid natural gas, which has already been used in duel-fuel locomotives. At time of writing, the only thing I could scrounge up that's actually authorised for cryogenic hydrogen transport on US rails are DOT-113 tanker cars, which are usually designed for other cryogenic liquids but. Uh. Im sure its fine. Nowt in the UK yet, we've got all of it on the roads at the minute. He's some kind of freaky half-to-spec pilot project to me anyways, I just need to ballpark.

According to the Railway Association of Canada's Railway Emergncy guide, DOT-113A60W tankers have a working temperature of -423F, which is the temperature hydrogen becomes liquid at.

So! That means we're working with DOT-113A60W!Hydra, or at least something similar! :D He's got a tank-within-a-tank system, weather-shielded loading/unloading valves, and DO NOT HUMP OR CUT OFF WHILE IN MOTION stenciled somewhere easy to see. Thank you for coming to my ted talk!

Fossil Novembirb 2: The Survivors

The End-Cretaceous Extinction was one of the most devastating - and tragic - events on our planet.

In the blink of an eye, the world changed from a thriving biosphere to a decimated one. The asteroid caused worldwide wildfires, tsunamis, and the dramatic release of particles into the air that blocked out the sun.

Nothing over 25 kg could survive, because they had nowhere to hide from the devastation. Anything under that limit had to have somewhere to hide - water or burrowing worked best - and something to eat, which was easier said than done. When the plants can't eat, nothing can.

And yet, life survived - not just life, but dinosaurs themselves!

In fact, one of the first fossils we have from the Cenozoic is Conflicto, a Presbyornithid - like "Styginetta" and Teviornis yesterday! - from Antarctica

Why these dinosaurs, and no others?

They had beaks, which would have helped them to access available food sources such as seeds and spores (plant material in a protective casing)

They did not live in trees, but usually near or with water - perfect places to hide

They were powerful fliers, allowing them to escape the flames and whatever else they needed to

Other than that? Random chance.

With all of those newly opened niches, Neornithines adapted quickly, so quickly we can't actually figure out how different major groups of Neoavians - aka, most birds - actually relate to one another.

After all, there was just *so much* free real estate!

In fact, many of these dinosaurs evolved right back into niches that their ancestors had famously lived in - penguins show up so quickly that we're giving marine birds their own day, replacing the now-lost Hesperornithines; Tsidiiyazhi and others quickly replaced the empty tree-bird niches left behind by the lost Enantiornithines; and raptors show up quickly too, already reminiscent of the lost Dromaeosaurs.

Qianshanornis, a mysterious raptor from China, had sickle claws just like its lost bretheren! In fact, it looks like it might be a Cariamiform, a group of dinosaurs including living Seriemas and the extinct Terror Birds, which often have sickle claws like Dromaeosaurs did!

Don't fix what isn't broken, I guess!

Non-Neoavians diversified too, with fowl doing just fine across the boundary - Presbyornithids like Conflicto, as well as mysterious forms like Australornis.

Palaeognaths remain weirdly absent, but don't worry - the earilest ones will show up before the Paleocene epoch is done!

The Cenozoic begins with the Paleogene Period, which has the first epoch of the Paleocene - this was a climatic quagmire, with frequent fluctuations at the beginning before a dramatic rise in temperatures at the end. This climate confusion would affect bird evolution greatly - and lead to the diversification of many kinds, some of which we still have today!

You felt the draft as she entered your room. You kept your window open wide, even when it was in the minuses outside. Not that you felt the cold any more, ever since she started visiting it hasn't bothered you. You smiled and pulled your hair over to one shoulder, thinking of all the times your friends would stand there shivering in their winter coats and boots, while you'd just wear your usual jeans and t-shirt.

You felt her hands on you, cold and clammy. You let your eyes drift shut as she took the first bite. Her fangs sinking into your flesh made you quiver. Her hand drifted to your mouth and you bit down, feeling her drink from you as her own vitae flowed into your mouth. Your head started to spin, feeling her essence strengthening you even as she drank. Your muscles tightening as your arms grew heavy. The hand left your mouth, taking the elixir with it, but she didn't stop. Your eyes sagged as your weak knees ground against one another, before losing the strength to do even that.

She let you go, stalking around to your front. The first time you saw her, you screamed. Now she's the most beautiful woman in the world to you. Wiry hair grew in patches from her scalp, frizzy and broken. Her skin was tight to her bones, black veins visible under the translucent surface. Bloodshot red eyes sat in sunken sockets, a hole where her nose once was sat above a thin-lipped mouth, needle-teeth stained with your blood. She leant in to your face, you could smell the copper scent on her breath as she kissed you. Your could only move a little, trying to kiss her back as one of her skeletal hands unbuttoned your blouse, the other worming around your back to unclasp your bra.

Supernatural strength moved your leaden limbs as though you were weightless. She laid you on your bed tenderly, like you were made of glass and liable to crack and shatter at the slightest wrong move. She tenderly spread your legs, kissing your skin as she eased herself towards your crotch.

You were already soaking wet, feeling your juices dribble down yourself and onto the bedsheets. Her tongue ran up your leg, towards the drooling folds between your thighs as she drew out the sensation, the anticipation. You whimpered, unable to muster the strength even to beg after her enervating kiss. She didn't need to hear you beg. She could feel it. Every shiver, every gasp that ran through your cold, heavy body. She was the apex predator the world feared. When first you met you wanted to run. You needed to run. Her grasp was iron, as it is now. When she first fed you her vitae, you understood. She is love. Monstrous, beautiful, all-consuming, life bringing.

Her tongue lapped your entrance. You whined, a tiny note escaping your lips as your lightheaded state barely allowed you to breathe. A finger entered you, then another, twisting upwards in you to reach your most intimate spots. You felt yourself clenching weakly around her, already nearing your peak. She bit you again. Those razor sharp teeth plunged into the meat of your thigh, drinking from you as the world grew darker. You felt yourself give in, squirting your release over your lover as your body tried to fold in ecstasy.

She didn't take much this time, feeling your consciousness slipping. instead she lapped your wound closed before that long, probing tongue started again on your clit. The sensation of her attentions dove you quickly to your next release, your toes curling weakly as your cunt pulsed around her hand.

You couldn't move, couldn't stop her if she wanted to take everything from you, to consign you to your dusky grave, but she wouldn't do that to you. She loved you, as you loved her. She was everything you wanted, and this was how you repaid her in kind.

She pulled away from you, stroking your thigh slightly, then she was gone. the only clue to her every being in your home a wet patch on your bed, and a bloodstain on your couch.

Grian sways into Scar’s arm, the closest he’s been to him in a handful of months. And Scar’s arm sneaks behind him, draped over his shoulder so comfortable, so casual, so right. They laugh as one, faces red and fondness in their eyes, an ease in each other’s company. 

Jimmy looks at them breathless, the words he wants to say stuck on his throat. They shine where they end, under the flickering lights of the porch and smelling of alcohol staining their lips. The music beats into their heads, it makes Jimmy’s spin too much. 

The burning and tightness on his chest nearly knocks him to the ground, just watching Scar lean into Grian’s space, the tip of their noses touching. 

The corners of his eyes sting, the words burn in his tongue. 

“Jimmy!” Scar yells, giddy as he throws his arms into the air, stumbling straight into Jimmy’s chest, draping his arms around his shoulders to hold himself up. He beams with a smile, inching into his space nonchalantly, “Gosh, whatcha doing alone, handsome!”

Nervously, Jimmy laughs, trying to steady him. “Been waitin’.”

“That so?! Who ya waitin’ for, Jimmy-Bimmy?!”

He laughs again, putting his hands against Scar’s chest to give himself a breather. But he fixates on his sparkling eyes, those curved lips. 

“You and Grian,” he says softly, dropping when Scar’s eyes widen, a certain light twinkling appearing rapidly. “We… You two are too drunk. Thought we could go for a walk, sober up.”

Scar nods, leaning into his space again. He stumbles into Jimmy again, laughing at himself when he is caught again. Rather than stand up, Scar wraps his arms around him, hugging him tight. 

Jimmy can smell cheap beer on him, drowning the cologne he wants to linger on his clothes. He wants to savor the moment.

50th Jatp Fic Stats

After posting it, I realised that Sacrifices and Surprises is my 50th fic posted on AO3 for Julie and the Phantoms and because I'm a numbers' bitch, I thought "why not collect some stats? I'm sure everyone is going to be just as intersted in those as I am!" So here we are (also I wanted to procrastinate at work).

50 fics!

...is not actually correct because six of those 50 AO3 entries are actually collections of assorted prompt ficlets etc instead of a coherent fic. But 50 is a nice number so we'll pretend they're all fics ;D

25/50 are gifts (to 9 people in total)

not counting the collections or ongoing series, only 1 is currently truly unfinished: Can I Interest You in Some Stolen Goods and My Heart? (I still have plans to eventually come back to this because I'm quite fond of the 'verse ... one day!)

I have four series and three of them are more or less actively ongoing (two more than the third, which is on hiatus)

41/50 are set in some kind of alternate universe, a handful of the rest are, let's face it, canonically improbable continuations of canon. There's 4 fics in total which are completely canon compliant (not counting various ones in the collections), which means I've fully embraced the 'what if' spirit of fanfic instead of clinging to canon ;D

31 are rated Teen and Up, 9 each for Explicit/General Audiences, and 1 Mature

the 50 fics have a total of 257,447 words* (*not 100% correct because Starlight Sonata is an extended chapter and so reuses a lot of words already posted in In Your Starlight) -> most words: In Your Starlight with 58,024 -> least words: Banded for Life with 130 (the gen band ficlet collection with just one ficlet so far) -> least words single fic: How to Ruin a Royal Wedding in One Easy Misstep with 319

looking at the years, we've got -> 2020: 5 fics with 13,929 words -> 2021: 15 fics with 121,076 words -> 2022: 4 fics with 36,290 words -> 2023: 16 fics with 31,469 words (lots of short ones in that year!) -> 2024: 7 fics with 37,246 words -> 2025: 3 fics with 5,875 words Due to the collections and some fics crossing over, these numbers aren't 100% correct. Also: OMG I'm on my sixth year writing jatp fic!!! Oo

13/50 are multi-chapters, ie 37 of these only have one chapter. It's clearly much more my style but I'm trying ;D In total, there's 114 chapters -> most chapters: Our Happiness is Made out of Fragments, the Willex ficlet collection, with 21 individual little ficlets -> most chapters for one single fic: In Your Starlight with 20 chapters

The following stats are already slightly outdated since I collected my numbers on Friday but then couldn't finish the post.

Hits: 42,280 total -> most: In Your Starlight with 6,877 -> least: Banded for Life with 41

kudos: 3,468 total -> most: Will You with 426 -> least: Banded for Life with 6

comment threads: 581 total -> most: In Your Starlight with 167 (remember this also had most chapters!) -> most on a One-Shot: Call For a Date, (Don’t) Fall in Love

bookmarks: 621 total -> most: Will You with 96

Are there any conclusions to draw from this? Not unsurprisingly, the collections are least successful (valid, it's more for archive purposes anyway). The early stories are still way more successful than the newer ones because they keep snowballing and the fandom was simply a lot bigger in those days. It's a little sad because I've written far better since but that's the way of things.

Otherwise, I don't know. I just know that I will continue to write jatp. For how long? We'll see ;D
