US people who care about railroads should definitely read the Corridor ID Selections. While it was published a little over a year ago, the program is designed to fund shovel-ready programs and dedicate money to assessing the viability of corridors which would be either new or upgraded, and they just posted a massive update to the map including new HSR viability studies.

The website I got this data from was like “Hey look, Chicago has one of the highest murder rates in America,” and then it turns out for being the USA’s 3rd largest city, Chicago actually has the 28th highest murder rate in the US. 
So for all the bad reputation Chicago gets, the murder rate is higher in Milwaukie, Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and St. Louis, just to name a few. Here’s the full list of cities with a higher murder rate per person than Chicago:

I’m not saying murders aren’t a problem in Chicago, but fascists like to single out and individualize problems, and they single out Chicago, and it’s bullshit. Murders are a problem everywhere, and if you look everywhere, the highest murder rates are where the GOP call the shots. 
Meanwhile you have GOP operatives being like “Hey look Chicago has the most murders in America” and it’s dishonest to imply that anything but murder rate per person is what we should be looking at, which brings the spotlight back to GOP policies and why they cause the highest murder rates in not just the USA, but the world. 
Speaking of international murder rates, let’s check some out for context:

North Korea: 15
Congo: 13.4
USA average (which includes all the blue states): 7.8
Afghanistan: 7.1
Haiti: 6.68
Cuba: 4.2

Chapter 7: Ranger Park Season 5 Episode 7: Case Under Fire *Trigger Warning*
The team arrived at the scene of the shooting where Jay had been when the call had come through along with other officers.
"Sarge. We have a witness who saw our female victim" Isabella said walking towards Hank and Jay, "she was running outside with a kid. She hid, heard gunshots, looked up, and saw the offender running for an exit with a boy over his shoulder"
"Any sign of the boy?" Hank questioned.
"No" 
"So this a kidnapping?" He said looking at both Isabella and Jay.
"Looks like it, and maybe the woman was either a nanny or a relative to the little boy," Isabella said.
Back at the station, Hank walked up the steps into the bullpen "Tell me what we got an ID on this boy"
"Not yet. But we do know more about the DOA" Kim said, "she is originally from Dayton, Ohio-"
Isabella got up from her desk and made her way towards the lounge room to pour herself a cup of coffee, Isabella had been having a rough couple of nights the last few weeks as she brought the cup of coffee to her lips but felt a presence standing behind her she turned around holding the cup in her hand and walked back into the room heading towards her desk.
"It might be a long shot, but Narcotics has had a bead on a kidnapping and ransom crew they can't make," Antonio said standing next to Isabella.
"I heard about this. They're going after kids connected to west-side dope gangs" Isabella said bringing the cup of coffee to her mouth.
"Right. The crew, they nab a kid, sets ransom, banger pays them with drug money, never calls the cops" Antonio explained "No victim, no crime. All they got is what they're hearing on the streets. Crew's three males. Black, Hispanic, white. 20s, trained. I mean, if we're to assume our guys had a getaway driver, it's a match"
"Dig into it," Hank said walking towards his office.
"Hey boss" Kevin called out.
"Yeah," Hank said turning around
"We ID'd the boy. Theresa's calendar says she picked up a Cody Barton. He was at a music lesson two blocks away from Randolph Park. Olinksy's on his way with the mom right now" Kevin said explaining what they found at the dorm.
"Hey, tell Lugo keep a lid on this to the press. If there's a crew out there working a ransom, we don't want word of it to hit"
"Copy that"
"Let's go, Park, we gotta roll," Jay said grabbing his key and watching her put her cup of coffee down. Isabella rubbed her eyes to get rid of the tiredness and followed Jay to his truck.
"Ben Barton!" Isabella yelled banging on his door, "Chicago PD, open up!"
Isabella turned to look at Jay and he picked up the crowbar and opened the door. The door opened up and Isabella walked in first and checked the left side while he checked the right meeting up in the middle.
"Keys and cell phone are on the table," Isabella said walking over to the back door and peeking through the curtain to look at the yard.
Jay had his eyes on the kitchen island that had a box opened, Isabella walked forward and Jay used the tip of his gun to look inside. "Oh, god" she muttered a yellow shirt covered in blood along with what seemed to be an ear in the box.
"So what do we get on the crew?" Hank asked.
"Well, these guys are trained, so ran a query through the VA," Antonio said, "There are 350 soldiers injured with similar age, weight, and burn. But only four of them live here in Chicago. And only one matches this well. That's Luis Vega, 28, 1st Ranger Battalion"
Kim stood up from her seat and walked towards the board, "Luis got booted last year due to an IED injury. Right forearm burned through. After he got out, he spent three months in South America on contract as security" she said.
"AKA, he did kidnapping and ransoms" Jay finished off.
"Yep. Height and weight match this guy to a T" Antonio said.
"We got someone headed to him?" Hank said.
"Covert car en route," Isabella said, "We'll get eyes"
"Good"
"Okay, what's the plan though?" Jay asked getting off his desk and standing behind her, "Cause we can't grab him up on what we got, and the odds of him talking are not good. Plus if we spook the crew we could get this kid killed"
"Well, that's why we get eyes on Luis right away," Hank said in a duh tone.
"Or you put me under," Jay said as Hank just stared at him, "He was a ranger. We served at the same time. I can connect with him"
"That's a bad idea" Isabella chimed in.
"No. An undercover would only hear him up. We don't have enough information" Antonio said.
"That would be the point. I'd get it"
"Al?" Hank asked looking at Alvin.
Alvin didn't say anything and just looked at Hank, "What about you? You got a take, Isabella?"
"Well—I don't think it's a good idea like Antonio said we could spook him but we also don't have enough information so—" Isabella said putting her hands behind her back, "I say we just take a chance with this undercover"
"Okay, let's give it a shot" ༘⋆🌷🫧💭₊˚ෆ
Isabella and Jay were in the basement as she helped him get wired up his body tensed up when she touched his chest as she put the mic on him. Her nails softly slid on his chest while she adjusted the location of the mic.
"Ruzek will log everything," Isabella said helping Jay to put on his mic, "I'll stick by you in the field, and Antonio will be there as a second. We'll have eyes on you even if you can't see us" buttoning up his shirt after she finished up hiding the mic.
"Why did you agree but also disagree?" Jay asked as he looked down at her.
Isabella shrugged her shoulders, "We have a missing kid, and a dead nanny we need all the information we need but we also don't wanna spook them" Isabella responded "But I've been a little concerned"
"Oh—about what?" he said following her hands
"About you. You cover well, but I got eyes, Jay," Isabella said patting his shoulder, "You sure you're good"
"Yo, we just got the undercover narcotics up to speed," Kevin said walking into the room holding a file, "We got the covers tracking Luis to the Veil club. The bartender, there is named Camila. That's his sister"
"Let's roll," Jay said. ༘⋆🌷🫧💭₊˚ෆ
Isabella and Hank walked over to Jay at the spot where they would meet up to catch him up on information, underneath a bridge near some river a black fence surrounded them.
"How you holding up" Hank asked as they walked up towards Jay.
"Great, I'm doing great," he said.
"Hold on, let me get this"
They walked away from Hank as he answered the phone, and Isabella handed Jay the file she was holding. "How's your hand?"
"It's fine. It was the right move" he said opening up the file.
"What a move. I'm not sure it was the correct one, Luis was definitely high on some drug and mixing that with beer" Isabella said fixing her hair due to how windy it was "Pulled everything I could find on Luis. Psych history, medical details on ops. Served in Iraq during the surge Korengal Valley, '08. Probably saw some—"
"I did a tour there too. I know what he saw" Jay said cutting her off, "oh and, next time don't make assumptions about him being high when you don't know anything" he spat.
Isabella rolled her eyes at him, "Oh please, I know he was high. My older brother also served during the same time you did and was also a Ranger. He turned to drugs and alcohol. So don't assume I don't know anything" Isabella said sending him a fake smile.
"Right, what's his na—"
"All right, talk to you later. All right man" Hank said walking towards them and ending the call, "This number is Antonio. He's talking to Lugo, trying to get his hands on 900k so we can the drop. We need you to ID these guys" he handed Jay a small baggie of drugs.
"Are these lookalikes?" He questioned.
Hank shook his head at his question, "You want me to give Luis actual drugs? I'm assuming we all know that's illegal" he said looking at both of them.
Isabella shrugged her shoulders, "We need an easy way in, and you wanted to go undercover?"
"This is the only way we could get information," Hank said, "Just make sure your wire is off," he said before walking away from us.
"His name is Park Seo-joon well his team knows him as Theodore Park," Isabella said before following Hank where he sat in his car waiting for her.
Isabella and Alvin sat in his car outside Camila's place as they watched Jay knock on the door hearing everything from the mic. Then two men walked out of the place getting into a jeep and one into a blue Mustang.
"Okay, there they go," Alvin said as they saw the two white males leave the house, "okay. Victor, seven, three, Nora, Andy, four, six and nine, Mary, one, William x-Ray, five, one"
Isabella typed the letter and numbers into the iPad on her lap, "Okay, the first plate is registered to a Josh Miller. 28. No priors. The second plate is Marcus Tate. 25. Height and weight match our college shooters. He's got two DUIs and an assault charge in the last two years".
"Angry guy. We could use something there" he said.
Isabella nodded her head looking at the computer screen, "Marcus is former Army infantry and Josh is a Marine vet. We got them" Isabella said sending Alvin a small smile.
"You want us to pull Marcus?" Isabella said looking at Jay with her brow raised.
"Yeah, if you guys pull him, I can get Luis to get Josh to use me. You get him out, I'm in" Jay said looking at both her and Hank.
"No," Isabella bluntly said.
"No? What the hell does that mean? Isabella, you are my partner you're supposed to have my back"
"It means it's too risky and I do have your back, I'm stopping you from doing something stupid and getting yourself killed. Would you like for Will to get a call saying that you are dead or for him to see you being rushed to Med bleeding to death?" Isabella shouted "You aren't also seeing straight, you trust this guy when you shouldn't. You went offline at the club, you punched a civilian"
"I didn't have a choice" he shouted back.
"Yes, you fucking did. I don't know who you were trying to impress back there but—"
"All right, all right, enough." Hank said," Okay. We pull Marcus"
"Hank—"
"This is our only play, Park. I don't care if you don't like this. We are doing talking"
Marcus walked towards his door where Isabella stood smoking a cigarette scrolling on her phone dressed in jeans and a short crop top leaning against his neighbor's door as Adam sneaked up behind him. Marus put the key into the door nob Adam jumped him but Marcus put him in a headlock she came up behind him hitting him on the back of his head and causing him to let Adam go as she put a bag over his head Adam removed the gun from his waistband punching him across the head he went unconscious.
"He almost beat you up," Isabella said chuckling as she laid him on the ground.
"I totally had it," He said putting the gun away.
"You totally did why don't you drag the body back to the car since you had everything under control" ༘⋆🌷🫧💭₊˚ෆ
The team pulled up to the warehouse entering near the closest door and headed up the stairs with their guns pointed up, Hank led the line as they closer to the top of the stairs the sound of gunfire was heard.
"Chicago PD!" Kim yelled as the team all rushed in with their guns and started shooting at the guy.
"Luis!" Jay yelled heading toward Luis's body,
Isabella didn't know what happened everything happened fast and she took her shot at the shooter who had his gun pointed at Jay and killed the shooter.
"Gunman down!" Isabella shouted.
Isabella rushed towards Jay who was trying to do CPR on Luis but he was already dead he took a bullet to the head.
"Jay!"
"Jay!"
"Jay!" Isabella shouted one last time before he pulled his gun at her, "Jay! It's me, Isabella"
"No!" He said crying lowering his gun once his version became clear seeing Isabella standing in front of him her eyes widened at him
A frown formed on her face as he continued doing CPR on Luis's dead body.
"He's gone Jay," Isabella said shaking her head.
"No, he isn't!" He shouted as he continued crying and stopped giving chest compressions and just sat on the ground staring at his body.
"Adam get Jay out of here now," Isabella said as Adam came towards them looking at the body and Jay shaking hands. Intro Act One 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14

Phyllis Nichols Baker, 94, retired teacher and counselor for Hixson High School died on October 21, 2023 surrounded by her family.
Born in Randolph, NY, Phyllis traveled by train at the age of 14 to attend Bob Jones Academy in Cleveland, Tn. and continued her education at Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. Upon graduation, she moved to Spencer, Tn., to become the home demonstration agent of Van Buren county. It was there that she married the love of her life, Clyde Robert Baker, and they later relocated to the Chattanooga area. After beginning her tenure at Hixson High School, she later received a Master of Education degree from Middle Tennessee State University.
She was a faithful member of Red Bank Baptist Church where she served as Sunday school teacher, missions director, adult choir member and member of Prime Time Singers. She also actively participated in many mission trips to Honduras and Idaho.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Robert Baker; parents Fred R. Nichols and Gladys L. Nichols; brother Vincent Rasmussen and Lloyd Nichols; and sisters Dorothy Knechtel and Irene McGaha.
Survivors include her son David (Patricia) Baker of Chattanooga and daughter Priscilla (Brian) Lamkin of Columbia, SC. Surviving grandchildren include Christina (Joshua) Shapiro of Haymarket, VA; Lauren (Mike) Bailey of Columbia, SC; Jonathan (Hailey) Lamkin of Ball Ground, GA. Great-grandchildren include Catherine, Hannah and Aaron Shapiro and Christina, Brian, Ashley and Caroline Bailey. Phyllis was loved by many nieces and nephews along with a large extended family.
A special thanks goes to Kendra Coulter and the devoted staff of Charter Senior Living of Chattanooga for their loving care.
The celebration of life will be 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 30, in the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday, Oct. 30, from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
