We're Kind of Doomed...Just a Little
Tonight while I was playing PVE DayZ, I came across a large gas canister that I didn't need. I typed out in the chat that I had a large gas canister that I didn't need and if anyone needs it then it's theirs. I would even leave it where they could find it later if need be. Someone responded with, "We can buy that at the Trader." This didn't exactly break my brain yet it started me thinking. Capitalism is a certain kind of brain rot that goes so deep into the psyche of a person that they impose its rigidity on a fucking video game.
I say this because that person and many other people on the server:
Believe that there should be no "hand outs".
Believe that community is not about sharing as much as it is about making a profit from others and expect rewards.
Find it foreign/baffling when a person doesn't want a reward or payment for something.
Get mean & aggressive when you want to share items with others. (Ex. "WHY ARE YOU DOING THAT?!?!? THAT'S WORTH X-AMOUNT YOU C*NT!")
Cannot comprehend bartering or mutual aid.
What baffles me is that DayZ is about surviving a zombie apocalypse. Keyword being "surviving". Just because there are traders it does not mean that the survival aspect must be capitalistic. Helping people and building a communal aspect in a post-apocalyptic environment where you could be mauled to death by zombies, bears, wolves, etc at any time is the best survival option and not where one must depend on having enough cash on hand to buy every little thing.
The more I think about a zombie/post-apocalypse type scenario happening in a place like the United States or United Kingdom (or any hyper-nationalist capitalist state) the more I think we're kind of fucking doomed. Like just a little fucking doomed. Mainly because of the individualist, "pick yourself up by your bootstraps" mentality that has gotten only the 1% farther in life yet brainwashed billions into thinking they are millionaires in-waiting while they get paid unfairly. Too many do not understand mutual aid...yet they set up GoFundMe accounts so they can pay off their medical bills. It's disturbing how around-the-facts people can go and for how long.
Even in a fucking survival video game where you loot to survive in a post-apocalyptic world full of stuff that wants to kill you there are people that put a price on everything and hold currency over necessity. If you've ever been in a WoW Guild it can also be this way too.
We all saw and were impacted by the Pandemic. We all saw what people did with hoarding supplies and buying up supplies so they could sell them online at a markup...during a global pandemic. The world is still recovering from that greed (and Covid-19 has not gone away at all). Supply chains are still fucked. Imagine if the Pandemic was worse. Imagine if The Last of Us came to pass. I don't even want to think about it not because of the clickers. No. I don't want to think of it because of the ultra-individualism of too many people that would become a faction of rabid capitalists without a world bank or a stable currency.
Just a little fucking doomed.

in reflection I think the past twelve years of gaming that I've done has all been trying to chase the high of logging into a DayZ mod server just after restart and rushing around trying to find newly spawned helicopter loot sites nothing was better than spotting that smoke plume in the distance and scoring an M4A1 SD with just enough SD STANAG magazines to fill your coyote backpack with

Just finished watching soviewomble’s dayz video essay, anyone else find it fascinating how to rise for fortnight and the over the top battle royal genre can be traced to the ARMA modding scene and the failure of the dayz stand-alone in regards to adapting the pvp scene of the many pvp day a mod servers.
I just love it when you can trace a thread between two seemingly vastly different things through a series of tangential related things

Early The Walking Dead alike Survival Games?
Early The Walking Dead alike Survival Games? I'm looking for a Zombie survival game with focus on looting houses and surviving against zombies. I don’t want to PvP against other players and the zombies should be the primarily threat, not other survivors. I really enjoyed The Last of Us, especially on higher difficulties. Every bullet is valuable and you think twice about shooting it. Very reminded me of early TWD, but I’d like to play something like that in an open world. Is there any game satisfying this? I thought about Days Gone or modding an offline DayZ Server. (I’ve played neither.)Or do you have other recommendations? I’d like to keep it as realistic as possible, so no fantasy weapons and resources should feel pretty limited, so no brainless shooter.Thank you for every recommendation! I've been playing DayZ lately. I tried a local server first on a Linux PC to get familiar with the game. I've seen enough videos to know I'm not interested in being bullied on a regular server, I've been playing on a modded pve only server, and people seem pretty cool. Still haven't seen but maybe half of Cherno map. I'm thinking Deer Isle might be my next map, sounds right up my alley for exploring. I've half debated on making a tutorial video or two for getting started in the game. I'm technically still sort of new myself, only been playing for maybe 3 weeks, but I mostly have the starting survival down, the rest is RNG and progression.

to elucidate:
Arma sequel Arma II is fairly well-received, but really comes into its own with the release of the DayZ mod, a setup that turns the military simulation game into a survival one. The mod becomes Arma's main claim to fame, and it's clear why - it's offering something that doesn't really exist on the market anywhere else, except for, like, some hardcore minecraft mods or something. The entire 'survival crafting game' trend didn't exist yet, it was a *reaction* to DayZ.
DayZ's basic premise was that players randomly spawn, with limited gear, and have to procure their own weapons and equipment while combatting environmental hazards like zombies, and their own hunger meters. Being a mod itself, it was immediately favourable to spinoff mods, where players would tweak which aspects they enjoyed, and minimise those they didn't. Quickly, distinct subgenres emerged - some focused on the survival crafting aspect, and introduced base building, endgame vehicles, and base raiding tools (the foundation for games like Rust); while some focused on the PvP element, introducing features that made meeting and gearing up easier. Even in pure survival servers for DayZ, areas like the northwest airfield tended to be complete free-for-alls, and some versions focused in on that, even including the ability to spawn in the air and parachute to a desired location. One popular PvP mod, by the modder Playerunknown, focused heavily on this side of the game.
As Arma II aged, and DayZ's success became evident, the developers began to work on a standalone version. Playerunknown, unsatisfied with the constraints of an Arma mod, also started working on a standalone, and released Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, PUBG, kickstarting the battle royale trend (which ultimately unseated the prior king, the zombie survival crafting game trend, also derived from DayZ). A number of other games followed in its wake, making use of the as-of-yet neglected half of DayZ's gameplay. One game, a zombie survival base-building game, by the name of Fortnite (because you build a fort and have to survive in it for a while) pivoted, and introduced a Battle Royale gamemode alongside its original gamemode, eventually supplanting it. Other franchises, such as Call of Duty, would scramble to add battle royale features and modes to chase the wave, but Fortnite, already copying DayZ from the previous trend of copying DayZ, had a leg up on them.
In brief, video game trends for the last twelve years (zombies, survival, crafting, battle royale) have basically been a whalefall, slowly consuming DayZ, piece by piece. DayZ, for its part, kinda died, and its standalone kinda sucks. Fortnite, the zombie survival game based on DayZ, switched to copying PUBG, the PvP shooter based on DayZ, and became the most popular game in the world, innovating on lootboxes based on TF2's digital hat economy, to create all new forms of predatory FOMO for 12 year olds.
it is still kinda funny to me that fortnite is directly descended from arma

Over 10 years of being subscribed to AH/LP/RT and a few of their other youtube channels, today I unfollowed them all after all the shit thats been going on.
So I'm gonna do a post on a lot of other YouTube channels that I follow and watch more frequently. I can't and won't say that these are all good people with spotless records, but the content they put out right now is great and I enjoy it (something that I haven't felt toward RT content in the last few years). Some of these channels ahve not updated in some time but I feel that the content they have is still worth a look.
Info under the cut:
Primarily gaming channels:
AlzaboHD and The SocialStreamers mostly CK3 and EU4 content.
AnarchyHD , DayZ server mod who posts content of gameplay and banning cheaters. TheRunningManZ also palys DayZ.
CandyEvie, FlygonHG, Mah-Dry-Bread, Moxie2D , SmallAnt all post pokemon content (usually nuzlockes and other pokemon challenges), along with some other game content (especially MDB and SmallAnt).
Dagnel, Etce, Rinqueen, Therm , Traves post Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley videos along with other games. Etce also plays Splatoon frequently.
ItsJabo, Nerbit, NGPlus, Mitten Squad do many video game challenges (old games from NGPlus and a lot of Fallout and Elder Scrolls from Jabo, MS, and Nerbit)
BedBananas, Criken2, Charborg/CHRBRG, Tomato Gaming/Tomato's Trash I call them the RP gang. Usually they all stream and do RP together in game with a lot of recurring streamers (BrettUltimus, Joefudge, Kiwo, Strippin, Gmart, Lwalman and others).
I recommend the Sub Rosa/SCP/Edwad Emberpants/ videos on Criken's channel, the Hitman videos from Bed, Barotrauma/SCP/ The Long Drive videos from Charborg, and the Dread Hunger streams from Tomato's Trash. They also post solo game content and past streams.
iSyzen and Syntac for ARK Survival gameplay.
tomatoanus covers speedruns and the mechanics behind them.
Skoldire, started following them for their modded Fallout 4 videos. They have a lot of other content as well.
Let's Game It Out, DougDoug, RTGame, CallMeKevin, The Spiffing Brit kind of just sum their gaming style up as chaos.
Nuzzgard , Phasmophobia and other spooky games.
UpIsNotJump , game reviews and some other funny content, and his second channel has old livestreams.
The Horizon, posts videos on minecraft builds meant to crash p2w servers.
Welyn and Willjum, Rust gameplay. Welyn also plays Tarkov and Sea of Theives.
I also follow Dooley Noted and Bruce Green on YT because I follow them on twitch and catch their VODS on these channels, although I haven't watched them in several months. They're some of the few former or current RT employees that I watch along with Matt Bragg and like... Criken/Bed/Tomato.
Primarily Movie, TV/ Pop Culture, or Internet stuff:
Amanda the Jedi (movie reviews)
BREADSWORD (cathartic film critique and analysis)
Bright Sun Films (explores abandoned places and the history behind it)
brutualmoose (Food review, film review, plays old PC games, a good variety channel)
Danny Gonzalez and Drew Gooden (film reviews, general Internet commentary, both former Viners, not the same person)
Dominic Noble (compares book to tv/film adaptations)
Izzzyzzz (Internet Lore videos)
Nick DiRamio (film and tv commentary)
PushingUpRoses (old tv shows summaries and reviews especially for Goosebumps and Murder She Wrote, and talks about old video games)
Sarah Z (breaks down a lot of info on Tumblr topics of old)
Schaffrillas Productions (film commentary especially with animated movies)
Seamus Gorman (Disney film commentary and other animated films as well)
Sideways (Critique on film and film score, very interesting info on how music makes a movie),
Yhara zayd (Film analysis especially around race and gender)
Red Bard (anime and such commentary)
Let's Make Stuff and Learn Stuff! (Travel, Food and Crafting, History and Science Channels)
Dollightful (OOAK Doll maker)
Hanabira工房 (miniatures)
How to Cook That (Ann Reardon debunks dangerous youtube videos and also shows you how to bake)
How To Drink (History of alcoholic drinks along with recipes, quite a few are pop culture based.)
I did a thing (Australian lad making questionably safe gadgets)
MariaLazar (OOAL Doll maker)
Micarah Tewers (sews really cool stuff usually out of curtains)
Ordinary Sausage (Makes sausages with weird ingredients)
Pecos Hank (Professional storm chaser, teaches you about meteorology and also plays some good music)
Peter Brown (lots of cool resin projects and experiments, makes me feel like I'm watching an old PBS show)
Solo Travel Japan (Travels on various Japanese transport, I find it relaxing)
Sugar Bean 슈가빈 (really cute macaron baker)
Survivorman - Les Stroud (Old episodes of Survivorman along with commentary by Les. Gives good tips and practical tips about survival)
You Suck At Cooking (easy recipes to make)
NendoZaiker-SNAIL (cool polymer clay sculpter)

Hey I’ve been thinking about getting into Minecraft. Thing is, i impulsively bought it on the PlayStation and it’s not showing me the same options as the pc kind. Should I get it on my computer? I don’t know yet if it’s really my thing so what are some other fun things besides the regular modes you can do? I know there’s the hunger games in mc but what else? Any recommendations? Sincerely, a Minecraft noob
Honestly, yea I’d look into getting the PC kind at some point, I own the console version for my switch and 3ds but neither are nearly as fun as pc since theres so many more options for the pc version.
Theres a lot of different servers on minecraft for mini-games, pvp, roleplay, and modded servers so it really just depends on what your looking for! Minecraftt is kinda making its comeback so I imagine we have a lot more coming to the game again in the future too( Several people who make mods n plugins are already working on plugins/mods again that haven't been updated in YEARs which is NICE).
Since you mentioned hunger games I can suggest a few other mini-games I love to play like Capture the Flag which is kinda like tf2 on mc if you ask me, Vampirez where theres two sides, the humans and the vampires, and either you have to survive a certain time frame as a human or as a vampire you have to hunt down all the humans before the time runs out, The Walls where theres 4 teams and you have 15 minutes to gather supplies to build weapons or a fort then after 15 minutes the walls drop and you gotta defeat the other 4 teams, Smash bros which is self-explanatory bc its just super smash bros for minecraft, and LASTLY my FAVORITE which is MINEZ which is a zombie survival game based off Arma II's DayZ- In Minez you can explore a large map well-gathering supplies and fighting off zombies, its the one minigame I can enjoy on my own or with friends tbh- I def recommend checking it out if thats your thing (here's the website for it).
Mini-games aside though there is a lot of different servers out there like Faction servers where you can join or make a faction. You can either fight other factions or make allies to become the strongest faction on the server (fun fact: I accidentally killed my favorite faction server by becoming the strongest faction and no one could even hurt us but we were also so strong no one wanted to leave the faction or break allyship with us- Also I named the faction off the shadowbolts from my little pony which still makes me laugh to this day).
If PvP isn’t your type maybe you’d like to try out a roleplay server though, personally I haven’t played on one of these myself, but I’ve seen roleplay servers for beautifully made fantasy worlds, futuristic worlds, and even ones for fandoms like Harry Potter and MLP. If you’d like to try out some mods theres even Pokemon servers with mods to add pokemon to the game!
Speaking of mods, they can add so much to your game from new animals in the game to whole new dimensions. My favorite mods are the twilight forest which adds a fantasy dimension with all new blocks, animals, and bosses so if you like that sorta stuff I’d def check it out. My second favorite would have to be technic which adds so much stuff to the game I honestly don’t know how to describe it so I’d just poke around on the website here.
My last suggestion is my favorite- which might be boring to some, but in almost playing this game for a decade now I’ve always just loved a small server with a good community. Minigames, PvP, and mods are fun, but once you get bored of that its just always great to get on a server with friendly people n familiar faces. There's nothing better than hopping onto your favorite lil server to start a new build from a small little shop or an entire town with the community. I feel lucky that after all these years I run my own little server and I love the community it's built up and I love all the builds people have made for the community like the market, railroad, the post office, and all the little towns that have popped up.
I’d say just explore all the different options until you find something that you love to do, the possibilities are really endless here since the game is pretty customizable. Maybe get some friends to play with you if they have it or go out and explore the game n make some friends on the way! I’ve also bought a handful of friends the game and they ended up loving the game, most of them still play to this day too. I met one of my closest friends from our mutual love of minecraft and making silly little stories on the game, minecraft is like a one of a kind bonding experience if you ask me lmao.
I hope all these suggestions helped you out!

The significance of a dedicated game server
Life without the support of a dedicated server can be miserable for gaming enthusiasts. With the modern games developing in all aspects, graphics, and sound, it pays to use these servers. Web hosting companies are sparing no efforts in offering the best support via these servers, keeping in mind the increasing demand for various games. In the present day, game server companies are coming out with a bunch of opportunities for gamers, and it is the best time to avail them. You can check internet to know how to set up a project zomboid server.

If we get into the shoes of an ardent gamer, the person will show keenness to play via the support of a server that guarantees the best performance. However, they should pay some attention to the technical aspects. After all, it's these technical aspects that make the game servers robust. Furthermore, there are some more key features, you should verify. The server companies must have 24/7 customer support, offer the most advanced hardware, and has the ability to accommodate a large group of fans of a particular game. Games like Minecraft, for instance, have a huge fan base.
Presently most game servers are available for popular games like Minecraft, DayZ, Killing Floor2, Counter-Strike, and many more. The requirements that are essential like downloading server maps or any mods can be performed too. Individuals need not be concerned about these technical aspects.
youtube
With the dedicated servers, you can be sure they will never compromise with security. As you can understand, there are several gaming aspects that you do not want to reveal to others. Meanwhile, hackers are on the prowl for stealing this information. Game server companies that offer the state-of-the-art dedicated ones, will never let these rogues to gain an upper hand. So, do your homework and identify the best game server before starting to play your favorite game.
