These are characters who have first appeared or been revealed as LGBTQIA+ over the last year, or whom I’ve recently learned about or whom I hadn’t mentioned in previous posts of this type (though I may have featured them on my old blog). As usual, this list is highly arbitrary and incomplete.

(Yeah, I know DC Comics isn’t the only game in town, but for the time being it’s the only one I regularly read, so…)

Isn’t the common line of thinking that “Wildstorm doesn’t work as part of the mainline DC universe” pretty damn stupid when characters like Superman and Shazam have coexisted for years within the same world as the Suicide Squad, Red Hood, Batman, etc. rather seamlessly? To me, those people always came across as the very same people who thought there weren’t enough quips and jokes in Reeves’ Batman

I'm unfamiliar with this discourse. So there are fans who feel the Wildstorm characters don't fit in with the main DC Universe? They dose seem a limiting opinion to hold. There is more than enough room for characters like Midnighter, Grifter, Rainmaker... the whole lot.

DC's continuity is a hot mess. But there can be positives to the inconsistencies... If a given story could benefit from the addition of a given character, just put that character in. Doesn't really matter if they're dead or from a different timeline or different whatever. These are all imaginary stories after all. The only confines should be what a creative team is able to come up with.

And I don't think Reeves’ Batman needed more quips and jokes... just a better adjustment to the aspect ratio.

so i’m not sure if Morrison ever went into this but the round table at Fort Superman has twelve seats while the Authority team we were introduced to has only 8 members in that book. assuming that the team would eventually grow (please give ‘em something to do DC!!), who do you think would make for good recruits and fit the tone of Clark’s team?

More Wildstorm characters would be my primary choice, despite my unfamiliarity with most of that cast. We're also down one member with Manchester Black's death, leaving the current roster at 7 (if we include Superman himself) so I'm thinking:

Jenny Quantum - Obvious choice. She's another rookie who gets unwillingly wrapped up in all this once her powers activate and the world becomes aware of her. Starts out as someone who doesn't even believe heroes can make a difference but slowly finds her faith in heroism, as well as her leadership ability.

Battalion - With Manchester Black's death, King can take Black's place narratively. He's another old timer who tried to fix the world by outbastarding the bastards, only to end up broken and bitter. Now he's got a chance to balance the scales by guiding the next generation.

Jakita Wagner - No clue if they'll start folding in the Planetary crew into the DCU as well, but it's just Jakita I want. Why? Because I like her.

Rainmaker - Cool powerset and God does DC need to start elevating at least one Native American character somewhere.

And then maybe one other DC character could join the team, and I'd pick

City Boy. He's going to be meeting with Superman soon, he has a similar powerset to Jack Hawksmoor, and morality wise he comes off as pretty grey. Feels like a natural fit for an Authority team that Superman founded.
