This post has been rotating in my mind since last year's DracDaily run so I had to make a short lil animatic!

Once again, we see the succinct power of the Demeter section and the punch it delivers with so little description. We scarcely know anyone’s name, but we still know their danger, we know what the captain now sits on the ship with–his terror, his fatigued devotion to duty, and the undead monster man himself. We know the log has gone into a bottle for safekeeping. He can’t write with bound hands on the helm.

And now, we get to wonder: what does Dracula do with this, an empty ship and the last (barely) living morsel aboard? I imagine he now constantly walks abroad. Idling. Chatting. Thanking the captain so kindly for the fine cuisine on his cruise. Maybe he feigns ignorance over whether he was thoughtful enough to snap the men’s necks before he dumped the corpses overboard or if, silly him, he forgot to gift them euthanasia and they are now all waterlogged undead, stalking along the ocean floor, gnawing sea life as they trudge in search of a shore. 

Because Dracula being Dracula, he won’t resist a good slow knife twist when it’s down to a one-on-one intimate sadism session. 

Oh captain, my captain, you sound like a good man. Like everyone else in the Count’s path, you don’t deserve what comes next.

2:58 thanks!! I had so much fun designing them, especially the blue eyed one! Initially I forgot Stoker described her as "fair" but hm I guess you can close 2 eyes and it could be interpreted by the "beauty" meaning of "fair", rather than skin... I also genuinely forgot black people don't usually have blue eyes blonde hair but hey! Theyre vampires. No point quibbling about ""realism"" or whatever

Also hehe yep the Art/Seward was purposeful. I love this song because it brings me so much nostalgia as the opening theme for a local tv drama. Very glad to have made it part of this animatic. Thank you for the enthusiastic dissection of this passion project aaa Ill treasure this response.

My town has a big tree lighting in the main square that is a HUGE deal. I can totally picture this chapter in my hometown square! I love this hallmark-esque Christmas story!

Even though you’d cleared a lot of your workload throughout the week, it seemed like every one of your clients was having some sort of emergency that desperately needed attention before the end of the day, and you were done. 

You’d splurged on an iced coffee after lunch for an extra boost, having it delivered instead of going down to the cafeteria for one of the basic ones, and even though it was down to mostly half-melted ice cubes, it had distracted you some. “But not enough.” 

Lowering your head onto your folded arms, you groaned as another new email came in, the little red flag next to it most likely unwarranted. “You, uh, doing alright in here?”

one of the coolest parts of Dracula Daily that I've come to appreciate is seeing posts from new readers excited to read Dracula (Daily) for the first time! now that we're coming up on the 3rd (well, 4th technically) year of Dracula Daily, you'd kind of expect readership to just drop off now that people have had their fun (which is perfectly fine btw). and its like, that's definitely happening and no year will compare to DD2022 and DD2023 (which had the advantage of Re: Dracula beginning its 1st year), so its still surprising to see new readers come in. People have already discussed DracDaily as a refreshing counter to the culture of binging-then-forgetting media, but it really does get more apparent with each run. Something about the fact that there are still new people interested in joining it past the initial meme/novelty of it is just, really nice! DracDaily is still kinda in its early stages though, so we'll only know how the fandom survives in like DD2025 probably, when even Re: Dracula will be in its 3rd run.

Re: how Dracula is the threat of the text itself...

Dracula using a single candle flame to burn a single letter, removing its contents from our eyes forever.

And after even more tampering in other ways (like making people tear their own memorandums), then... He is going to use a blazing fire for more than just one piece of paper... To destroy the book itself.

Aside from destroying, with Jonathan he even tries to create false text, fake narratives, through fraudulent letters. Which later Mina says "do not sound like Jonathan at all."

Anon did you break into my computer because these are literally the same evidence quotes I used in my thesis :D!! But yea jokes aside these ideas about onotology in Dracula keep recurring in so many articles I saw about the novel. I'm so glad people on tumblr seem to be focusing more on the form of the text itself now that the initial hype from the (re)discovery of what Stoker's text is like in DD2022 and DD2023 has been explored!! Genuinely fascinating.

I'm so glad you gave Dracula his forehead scar as a permanent motif! It's very underutilized, especially since it parallels Mina's forehead scar, both as proof sof their vulnerability and doom, and mind connection

Yess spot on parallels, I agree. For the design, you've all the tumblr posts talking about the symbolism of Dracula's forehead scar to thank for that haha. Character design is such a horribly weak spot for me that I'm not entirely sure if I would've included it if it weren't for all the analysis posts acting as a reminder 💀 Mina's forehead scar was the same way too! In DD2022 I gave her a slanting off-centre scar like Dracula's, thinking "thats the kind of scar a communion wafer held sideways would leave right since the edge touches the forehead", forgetting just how much better a cross/circle in the centre looks
