“Dean. I’m getting hungry. What’d you want to have for dinner tonight?” called Sam, poking his head out of the kitchen and down the hall towards Dean’s room. “Dean. Food. What do you want?”

Sam was met with silence and narrowed his eyes, carefully walking down the hall towards his brother’s room. The door was open and room empty though. Sam went up to the garage but it too was empty. Baby was there so he knew Dean must have been home.

Sam jogged back down the steps and started to wander around the bunker, a strange muffled sound coming through one of the doors as Sam went past. He slowly opened it to hear music. Piano music. Dean’s back was to him as a familiar tune filled the air.

“I didn’t know you could play piano,” said Sam. Dean instantly froze, his shoulders stiff. “Where’d you learn?”

“I used to watch mom play. Bobby would teach me some whenever dad dropped us off to stay,” said Dean quietly. “Go ahead. I know you’re dying to shit on me for this.”

“Well if you insist,” said Sam, walking over and resting his hands on Dean’s shoulders, leaning over him. “I was thinking we could get some Mexican for something different. I can order stuff if you’re getting hungry.”

“Sure,” said Dean. Sam rubbed his shoulders before he turned away and started to leave. “Sammy.”

“Leave the door open when you play sometime,” said Sam. “You’re pretty decent.”

“Did you just compliment me?”

“Just take the compliment, jackass,” said Sam, smiling as he headed out.

“Hey, don’t you order mine extra hot again!” called back Dean.

“Make Dean’s extra hot. Got it,” Sam said to himself with a smirk as he walked back down the hall. “Eh, I’ll let you off the hook this once. You can have hot sauce in your coffee tomorrow instead.”

happy late birthday to my best friend, babygirl, and all-time favorite character who is totally real and alive thanks

They’ve been asking him for weeks now what he wanted to do for his birthday. He always answered with, “Let me think about it.”

It wasn’t the first birthday they celebrated as retired old fucks but now they’re more comfortable owning that title. At least he is. Sam kept asking him to stop. Plus, Sam’s not retired. He’s missing out on the good life. 

Still, Dean wasn’t sure what to do for his birthday. 

There was a time in his life when he refused to acknowledge it. Every passing minute he’d be surprised he was alive, while other times, he’d wish he wasn’t. It was confusing and definitely not something an ice cream cake and balloons could fix. 

But now, oh, he fucking celebrates. 

One year they tried to go out to a nice dinner like in the movies but the big group became too loud and their stories weren’t very family-friendly. They have done bowling for Sam’s birthday, a BBQ at a park for Eileen’s, and even an escape room for Jack’s birthday but that one didn’t go well at all. Cas even got to celebrate some birthdays. Went to Disneyland one year for it and now there’s a video of Dean crying while Chewbacca hugged him.

The point is they’re making up for all the missed birthdays. And this one is a big one for him. 

“I’m 45!” Dean entered the water park with a big grin and sticky from the layers of sunscreen Cas smothered him in. “Point me to the lazy river!”

He decided on a waterpark last week when he saw a video of some dude just floating away with a coconut drink in hand. It became his new life mission to become that man. So they all booked a plane, bought a shit ton of sunscreen—it’s an indoor park but Cas insisted—, and are now marching with their flip-flops to get a good spot to put their things down. 

Everyone went their separate ways as soon as they set their things down. They’ll meet up for lunch and dinner plans were already reserved at a Mexican place across the street. 

Life couldn’t get better than this. 

“Dean? You want to get a drink before we float all day?” Cas took his hand, leading him toward the juice bar. No alcohol is served here. 

Dean let Cas lead the way. Holding his hand securely as he looked around the place. Still pretty empty—it was a Wednesday morning— and it smelled like clean chlorine mixed with some artificial tropical scent. He liked it. 

A few minutes later they were floating down the lazy river together. Drinks in one hand and his husband’s hand in the other. Dean would happily get used to this. 

“Happy birthday, Dean.” Cas kissed him during lunch, giving Dean a slice of apple pie with a candle on top. 

Jack took pictures and started singing Happy Birthday while the rest of them joined in. Dean looked around at his little family, a bunch of weirdos who just found each other even though the story told them otherwise, and blew out his candle. 

“What did you wish for?” His husband asked while everyone else dug into the sandwiches. 

Dean smiled at him. Watching as Cas’s loving expression mirrored his. “Nothing else I need, sweetheart. I already have you.”

This made his husband roll his eyes but it got him a kiss too. A win is a win.

my Dirk Gently Supernatural crossover thoughts

i love both dghda and spn so ofc i imagined what could happen if the characters met (note that is is just pure crack but i would love more suggestions)

✦ they would met on one of the two cases in dghda or on one of the spn cases

✦ like sam and dean are just doing their usual thing when this weird chatty british dude, his assisfriend and a gorgeous badass appear

✦ i imagine dirk, todd and farah finding the case because dirk had a hunch they needed to be there and they meet these two FBI guys (who soon turns out aren't real agents) and they team up

✦ anyway they solve the case and sometime in the process of solving it they learn about what they really do

✦ i mean sam and dean learn about dirk being a holistic detective pretty fast but when things get messy the winchesters reveal what they do

✦ now i think they could team up again on some bigger cases (i imagine this being post season 2 of dghda and around season 12-13 of spn)

✦and maybe the universe led dirk to the winchesters so they could help each other

✦ so after they work on more cases more of the characters meet each other and here's who i think would get along with who

✦dirk and rowena become besties and sip tea and gossip; also she understands more about dirk being a holistic detective than he understands himself

✦ dean has a small crush on farah (but who doesn't), he's still married to cas though

✦ tina, farah, jody and donna are the best team ever

✦ CHARLIE AND TINA FRIENDSHIP.

✦ charlie and todd would be friends and she knows mexican funeral

✦ to his shame (not really) so does dean and he would never admit it but he was a fan before the band broke up

✦ also mona would randomly appear around the bunker nearly giving sam a heart attack; after that she would love to stay around jack and cas

SUMMARY: Brooklyn, 1927. The Golden Age of Boxing. Two years ago, light heavyweight champion Dean Winchester and heavyweight champion Castiel Novak had a secret affair. After a scandal tarnished Cas’ name and stripped him of his title, the two parted ways. Now, with a heavyweight tournament on the horizon, Dean aims to up his weight class so he can compete for the title. He finds unexpected competition when Cas comes out of retirement and returns to New York to fix his reputation. Upon their reunion, the two contenders learn that, outside of the ring, some bruises never really heal.

PREVIEW:

A roar of applause went through the room. Castiel brought his attention to the ring, seeing the MC walking back to the microphone stand.

“Ladies and gentlemen!” the MC called. “Are you ready for tonight’s main event?”

The crowd burst into shouts and applause.

“’Ere comes our boy,” Mick said, nudging Castiel with his elbow.

Our boy. The words sobered Castiel slightly. Of course, years ago, he’d always known that he’d one day have to share Dean with the world. Dean’s name was bound to be in lights. Castiel just hadn’t thought that, when the time came, he’d be just as much an outsider as the adoring masses in the audience.

Really, Dean was never truly his to begin with.

“In this corner,” the MC said, “coming all the way from Mexico City! Weighing 184 pounds, with 15 wins, two by knockout—Mr. Cesar Chavez!”

The audience was shouting again, and Castiel heard some boos among the mix.

Suddenly, the piano music intensified, playing a fast-paced tune. The footlights on the stage flared, a spotlight appearing on the velvet as Chavez came out from stage left. He bounced down the stairs and walked through the partitions toward the ring.

His seconds paraded behind him, one bearing a pole with the Mexican flag waving overhead. Chavez’s robe and gloves were the same colors as the flag.

Cesar walked up the steps on the side of the ring and ducked through the ropes. He held his arms overhead, met with more loud cheers.

When the crowd quieted somewhat, the MC said, “And in this corner—in his debut heavyweight bout! Weighing in at 183 pounds! The undefeated light heavyweight champion of the world—Brooklyn’s own Mr. Dean Winchester!”

Castiel felt the enormity of the moment in his bones. The crowd was cheering louder than before, the sound of it causing the floor beneath him to vibrate. But, strangely, it all sounded muffled to him. He watched the blinding spotlight move to stage right. The curtain fluttered—and there was Dean.

His hood was up, his robe was hanging open, showing off his chest and the Everlast logo on the waistband of his shorts. Castiel watched the bow of his legs as he jostled down off the stage and moved toward his destiny. Dean raised one arm in the air as he walked, grinning like a child and pumping his gloved fist. The new wave of screams from the audience broke through Castiel’s fog, and everything suddenly felt too loud and bright by comparison.

Victor was behind Dean, holding the title belt up high overhead. Benny and Rufus followed.

Castiel reminded himself to clap. He glanced over at Sam, seeing him cupping his hands around his mouth to amplify his own cheers. Beside him, Jo and Charlie were shouting and jumping up and down, their pearl necklaces and feathered headbands bouncing in each movement.

Bobby’s wheelchair was already parked beyond Dean’s corner of the ring. Before Dean made for the ropes, he crouched in front of Bobby, whose mouth moved as he said something to Dean. Bobby squeezed Dean’s shoulder, nodding. Dean bounced back up to his feet and barreled up the stairs to the ropes.

The MC shouted, “Ladies and gentlemen, make some noise for your contenders!”

While the crowd cheered, the MC started out of the ring. A stagehand quickly removed the microphone stand. Castiel’s eyes were fixed on Dean, who was shrugging out of his robe with Benny’s help. Rufus was next to him, gesticulating with his hands as he coached.

Dean stretched his neck from side to side and rolled his shoulders, making the muscles of his back move like liquid beneath his skin.

Mick nudged Castiel again, startling him. Castiel glanced over, finding Mick tipping his popcorn toward him in offering. Embarrassment pressed down on Castiel’s chest, and he hoped Mick hadn’t caught him staring. He forced a low wattage smile of gratitude and reached into the popcorn container.

When he brought his eyes back to the ring, Benny and Rufus were gone and Dean was walking to the center of the canvas to meet Chavez. As he moved, Dean swung his arms back and forward once, clapping his gloves together in front of him. The memory of watching Dean do that a hundred times suddenly bowled Castiel over.

He wondered how he’d ever forgotten that strange, adorable ritual Dean performed each time he slipped into his gloves.

It is of course VERY tempting to say 8.23 -- they made a promise to each other! In a church! -- but I gotta go with my old standby the best, the truest, the most wincest season: 11.

I mean, the whole constant vow element of their relationship is really important to me, but a deep part of my belief system about relationships is that weddings mean nothing -- what actually counts is the living-it-every-day part, the part where you're fully settled in the life and waking up each morning and knowing that this is what is and what should always be. It's... what comes after certainty. The first time I really see that felt in the show in s11. They've gone through all the turmoil and now they're truly together in a way not even god can put asunder. Crazy-making. The best. <3

Still, I think they come to at different speeds, as you say, but it's not necessarily in Brother A not loving Brother B but in Brother B believing that Brother A feels the same. So while Sam may say, in s2, "there's nothing I wouldn't do for you," I don't think Dean actually can believe it until s10. Which is a long marination! But it takes until then for him to not assume Sam's going to walk away or take another option -- honestly right up until Sam's on his knees, in that dumb cantina with literal Death watching, I'm not sure Dean really gets it. But then ever after -- he never doubts it once.

For Sam it's trickier. Dean's devotion is built in to the whole-ass understanding of their relationship, and it's not exactly that Sam takes it for granted but I think he kind of doesn't... think about what it means, all the way. Like, of course Dean was going to sell his soul to get Sam back, there was no other choice -- but I'm not sure Sam gets it as the choice Dean is making as much as he's thinking of it as something that Dean is obligated to do, which -- I mean, he's not wrong! But I think the understanding Sam has to come to is that... regardless of it being obligation, Dean would choose to do it anyway. He brings Sam back because he loves Sam. He has to and he wants to and there's no air between those two things and if he were to make another choice he wouldn't be Sam's brother. There's no Dean if there's no Sam. There were times Sam didn't want to hear it, maybe didn't even believe it, but that doesn't stop it from being true. So -- I think it actually is 8.23 where Sam gets it, even if he throws some of the elements of what that means into Dean's face in s9, even going so far as to say they're not brothers, as if that's how it works -- as though everything that made Dean Dean was somehow going to be eradicated by Sam being furious. Not that Sam even meant it, really. And of course we get to the end of s9 and all that's proven to be a lie, the second Dean is going to be taken from him again.

So -- Sam's marriage is right there in that church; Dean's is at a mexican restaurant with the possibility of fratricide. Sounds pretty in character for them.

this was the second time Sam had gone off without his brother, this was also the second time he'd gotten badly hurt to the point of you were terrified if he'd ever wake up.

you and Dean were sitting in the bunker, actually studying to read up on this thing, which surprised the hell out of you when Dean said he wanted to study. Sam was in his room, doing something else, or so you thought.

you and Sam had been dating for a few months, and Dean never stopped teasing you about it, always finding some way to inject himself into the conversation to just say something stupid.

A few hours passed and you were so caught up in reading that you didn't notice it had gotten very quiet in the bunker,so you eventually peeked your head out of the book to see Dean passed out on the couch,the book laying on his face.

You get up,setting your book down carefully and grabbing his book,closing it and setting it on the desk beside him,blowing out the candles and turning off the lights, taking the beer from Dean's hand,and setting it in the fridge.

You made your way up the stairs quietly because you didn't wanna wake anyone up,and slowly made your way to Sam's room,where you had been sleeping the past few days.

As soon as you enter the room you notice something was wrong,there was blood all over the walls,the bedding was messed up,and Sam was no where to be found.

Running back down the stairs,you almost tripped over your own feet,but ran to the couch,trying to wake Dean up. He wouldn't wake up,so you ended up slapping him with his dad's hunting book, that definitely woke him up.

You guys got Bobby up,which was not difficult, surprisingly, and you guys quickly set out to try and find the youngest brother.

A few hours go by,and your pulling up to this creepy old warehouse, it wasn't abandoned or anything it just gave you chicken skin. (Little tribute to the best Mexican YouTuber out there 👀)

You run into the warehouse,fully armed to kill what you guys had researched, was a vampire. You didn't see the vampire,but you did see Sam tied to a wooden pole. You ignored the warnings from Bobby and Dean and ran to get him untied.

A few hours later you two were laying in bed after you had cleaned Him up,and you were watching a show,you didn't know what show but you didn't really care.

You looked up at him,and smiled,seeing him look down at you "what you staring at you big goof" he mutters,raising an eyebrow and gently leaning over you to kiss you "oh just the prettiest man alove" you hummed back,pushing him off and laying on him "im tired. Go to bed" You mumbled,but looked uo as he flipped you over,kissing your nose, qnd you rolled your eyes "you're a dumbass,you know that right?" On the way to their destination, Jensen stops to take on some cargo, which results in a run-in with space sentries and a hide-out in an asteroid field, a visit to a desert planet where Jared meets some of Jensen’s old friends, and a rescue in space during which they take on new crew members. More (mis)adventures ensue, including a run-in with a bounty hunter who wants to sell Jensen back to a former customer at the brothel where Jensen worked as a young man. Following a daring rescue, the boys finally arrive at their original destination, only to face more challenges in their attempts to retrieve the stone Jared was assigned to bring back to Earth. This story is inspired by Indiana Jones, Star Wars (the first three movies), and Romancing the Stone. The two cannot deny the call between the two of them and fall into a relationship that some think they can use to gain what they want not realizing that a Siren is as possessive and protective over their mate as a Dragon is.
