Days With My Stepsister: Don't be fooled by the title: this is actually a very contemplative, serene series exploring the complexities of family. The stuff it's doing with light and shadow has my brain on fire.

Monogatari Series OFF and Monster Season: The ultimate problematic fave is back, and it's just as spectacular as ever.

The Elusive Samurai: Dear lord, this is the most beautiful thing I've ever set my eyes on.

Too Many Losing Heroines: Screwball comedy at its finest. The first episode had me cackling from start to finish.

Shoshimin Series: When a show manages to gut-punch me with strawberry tarts in the very first episode, I know it's operating on another level.

Oshi no Ko Season 2: god dammit why is this show actually good now

Twilight Out of Focus: Always down for more good BL, though be warned it dives headfirst into themes of abuse and pedophilia, so come in prepared.

Narenare: Cheer For You: Incredibly vapid first episode, though the art direction is unique enough I'll probably stick with it a little longer to see if it gets better.

Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin: This would be an easy recommend in a less packed season, but if you must let one good show slip through the cracks, make it this one.

Tower of God Season 2: I'm willing to give it another shot, we'll see how long that lasts.

The Magical Girl and Evil Lieutenant Used to be Arch Enemies: The story behind this anime's existence is way more interesting than the anime itself.

okay to those of you who saw my last rb and care about my stupid guilty gear au. i NEED to rant right now. Massive long winded about bedkari (aka bedman x hikari, my stupid ship that’s part of reverie of rebirth) under the cut. Be warned they’re so toxic yuri

i just realized. The cornered pray analogy exactly how the dynamic between Romeo and Hikari is. The lamb preparing for their slaughter specifically is. Exactly them. But the thing is… The roles are swapped in a way.

Romeo, of course, has sheep elements. Those are a huge part of his design- Even in his canon story as well. He’s a lamb being led by a shepherd. He’s naively being led along by Ariels, she calms him when he rebels or lashes out against her, and she led him all the way to his eventual slaughter. He’s the lamb.

But with Hikari, he gets to be the shepherd.

Hikari is a yokai. She’s powerful. I wrote her to be powerful on purpose. She could be fatally wounded and survive, not even batting an eye due to her lack of pain receptors. Which she does. Right when she first meets Romeo. He tries to kill her, and yet she’s unfazed. She doesn’t care. She didn’t feel anything, and she knows she wants to be near him no matter what. All that’s important is pleasing him.

Basically all Hikari knows is Romeo. When she first met him and emotionally latched onto him, she had only recently awoken and still had all her emotions. All her emotions were developed around Romeo’s guidance and treatment of her, which basically just meant being his little assistant, aiding in his war crimes, and associating joy with his slightly harsh treatment.

All Hikari knows is showing her neck and stomach to Romeo.

When comparing the specific animal motifs of both Romeo and Hikari, it’s really fun to see the contrast. Hikari has the designs element of the predator animal, while Romeo has motifs of the prey. However, those roles are swapped in terms of their behavior. Romeo is abrasive and only begins to show care towards his yokai companion after months in his presence, while said companion innocently follows his commands and accepts anything he throws her way- Naively believing every word he says like it’s gospel. A little cat blindly loving the cruel shepherd. It’s a beautiful parallel that honestly was not intentional.

The sheep bares its teeth and bites into the neck of the two-tailed cat.

I do think Alucard x Integra is not a canon ship because, classifying them into only one type of relationship, that would strip their relationship off opportunities to be interpreted by fans in a variety of ways (which probably was Hirano Kohtah's intention too since the ending was quite open and he didn't intend for a sequel or addressing the "after that") but it is baffling to completely deny the implication of romance because as I said "open to interpretation" INCLUDING romantic route. Besides that, it's lowkey rude to just assume every alucard x integra shippers are "new" fans, I have seen fanworks older than me. The least we could do is respect our predecessors. And let's not assume other people's interpretation as "mischaracterization" because Alucard and Integra relationship have several points where you can interpret as "romantic" or at least "sexual". And I don't even want to mention that the whole point of shipping is delulu, if you think Alucard x Integra is a stretch therefore "unshippable", you might as well treat every of other ship with the same attitude since besides Pip and Seras, none of Hellsing ships are canon??? And talking about canon couples, Mina Harker is married to Jonathan Harker, it is vague in Hellsing but in the novel she did not have a romance with Dracula, while in the Coppola's movie adaptation, she did have a sorts of romance with him? idk how far was it was hypnosis or romance but to each with their own interpretation i guess? And while we are at it, in that movie adaptation Mina Harker was a reincarnation of Vlad's wife, and they signified it by using colour coding, specifically speaking was dressing her (Mina Harker and Vlad Tepes's wife) in green (This motif had been incorporated into various of later adaptation like BBC Dracula or stageplays). Now who in Hellsing wears dominantly green? Wasnt that Integra? It is clearly a delusional stretch but that's the whole point of shipping?
