Rotating him in my mind for my own sanity because I got to the part in Path of Stars where they've just. Completely retconned everything about him for the sake of forcefully making everyone of value forgive Clear Sky. The only person who stays mad at Clear Sky forever actually just liked One Eye better

Even though we saw him, on screen, looking at the camera and being like, "I Do Not Like Clear Sky Because His Bad Judgement Caused Us To Be Permanently Branded By A Tyrant Like We Were A Herd Of Texas Steers."

They did him SO dirty, man!! SO SO dirty!!!!!

On that note though, I HAVE decided on a few things!

So, on the note of defectors, Snake is going to be one of the very last ones. While I absolutely adore him, I think it's very important and meaningful that he is one of his most loyal cats.

Snake is a Mountain cat, and it's looking like he is going to be part of the Claw Family.

The Claw Family consists of Fox Claw and Petal Claw to begin with. I have an inkling of an idea that Petal Claw actually leaves while pregnant-- possibly escaping someone unsavory back at home.

I feel like she doesn't really enjoy romance. She's ambitious and ferocious, and whoever her lover was, was quite controlling.

Unfortunately it's a big reason why she's so committed to Clear Sky. She has that sort of unaddressed mindset that abuse often leaves you with.

"No, I know what an awful person is because of what I went through, and I'm telling you, Clear Sky is not that. YOU'Re actually the problem."

And, in turn, Clear Sky rewards her a lot. She is one of his favorite cats, she gets a TON of benefits for her loyalty. Tyrannical, terrible two of them.

Besties (threat)

Snake Claw and Red Claw would have been the first births in the forest, but Bright Storm gave birth early because of the stress and thus Thunder Storm came first.

So Snake and Red were brought up by Petal Claw and Fox Claw, in early Sky's Clan.

Fox and Petal were ADAMANTLY loyal to Clear Sky. They remained behind in the Shadow/Sky split, hissing and spitting at those who chose to follow Tall Shadow.

I feel like Fox was actually their primary parent. They call him Uncle, but he acted a lot more like a dad. It gave Petal more time to go do bad bitch things.

When Clear Sky murders Misty, much much later, Petal is given the kittens as a reward for her loyalty. Having more kits is a point of status, and she's very happy to accept the reward.

So, the Claw family becomes "huge" in a short period of time on this evil action. Petal Claw, Fox Claw, Snake Claw, Red Claw, Alder Claw, Birch Claw.

For Snake, he's raised accepting all this as good and normal. At some point, Fox Claw is killed in some kind of frighteningly violent, unnecessary, bloodthirsty skirmish that Clear Sky aggrieves, and Snake Claw doubles down right along with Petal.

He also does a lot of the WORST things on behalf of Clear Sky. He IS going to have a body count-- though he will no longer be killing BB!Frost (now Sunlit Frost), he does bite him on the good paw during The First Battle.

This bite goes septic, after Sunlit REFUSES to sit out gravedigging, helping to bury his friends and family with an open wound. He already has nerve damage in the other arm from his severe burn.

This choice, because he wouldn't take a break when he was told to, ends up MASSIVELY disabling him. Once a master builder and inventor, he loses his dominant paw and has chronic pain in the other one. He can't build anymore after this.

After Snake Claw defects, I actually really want them to struggle with this. Snake doesn't feel like it's fair to blame him for what Sunlit did to himself, but he's also NEW to Thunder's Clan later, and there's not a lot of people on his side.

And Sunlit is a person who holds grudges... but it's also true that it's kinda not fair, since Snake Claw is trying to apologize for it.

Somehow it's unsatisfying and frustrating, knowing that Snake Claw is only apologizing because everyone wants him to. But how can you expect him to be sincere about something the BOTH of you feel is not entirely his fault?

It's like Sunlit wanted to have him to blame, but that's hard when he's not Clear Sky's Minion anymore.

In the past, I'd gone back and forth on if Red Claw or Snake Claw defected, and now I'm realizing.... por que no los dos? Por que no los TRES?

Since I've committed to adding a third group and expanding on the Forest cats, this is going to mean that Snake's younger "adopted" siblings NEED to have full arcs with this.

While one of them will remain with Clear Sky, becoming a cultural "justification" for the practice of Kitten Stealing, which will plague Clan culture for generations, I think something is fascinating in the idea that they're the ONLY Claw to remain with SkyClan.

Petal Claw and Fox Claw die in battle, "honored" for their sacrifice.

Red Claw defects for ThunderClan first, after falling for the charms of Acorn Swoop

Alder Claw likely follows later... reconnecting with Misty's mate, Milkweed, who has been fighting for MOONS for this very moment

And, lastly, Snake will follow.

(It is also bitterly funny to me that it means Milkweed loses Misty, but then ends up gaining all of Petal's biokids. Never speak to me or my daughter or my son or my son or my daughter or my daughter or my daughter-in-law ever again)

Because Snake Claw will be the very last of the Claw family to defect, I'm thinking it's after the end of BB!DOTC, and over in Thunderstar's Justice.

KEEP the fact that Snake Claw leaves because of Skystar bringing One Eye into the Clan. Even keep the fact that most of SkyClan is loyal to their tyrant-- Snake Claw has woken up to the truth, and realizes he has family elsewhere who loves and misses him.

Well.... hopefully they still do. After everything.

Snake Claw should have a ton of fights with Red Claw and Alder Claw, I think, before the First Battle. Have them all be covered in scars

Because the whole family defects, it's easy for it to become a sensational story about Nepotism/Scabforming. Other Clans probably don't hold Snake, Red, and Alder in high esteem in their myths-- but until Darkstar's Commandment which bans Kitten Stealing, Birch Claw was easily the most venerated.

Aaaand that's it so far! I know for a fact now that Snake Claw is going to be a member of the Claw family, and that he is going to be a MAJOR antagonist through BB!DOTC. In Thunderstar's Justice, he's going to join his living family after finally being able to realize that Skystar is not worth following.

I want to keep that he is a villain for most of the story, because that's what I like best about the way he turns on Clear Sky from canon. He was everything Skystar ever wanted, he did every awful command, the blood is already dried under his claws forever and he was rewarded only with a permanent scarring.

Then, told it's "MY way or the HIGH way," he chooses the high way.

For the WIP Ask Game anything to share on ‘Five things the Spectres found out about Kallus and one he told them himself’? I’m always obsessed with Kallus slowly opening up the Ghost crew

Oh thanks for asking! 🩷 And yes, I absolutely do have stuff to share about that! And I agree, Kallus slowly getting closer with the Ghost Crew is something so dear

With this one, it's a 5+1 fic and the main theme is- as the title says- things about Kallus that he keeps to himself and the Ghost Crew uncovers. I have a list of things abut Kallus attached to the crew members

Past- Ezra (it's mostly connected to his backstory as a Sewer Rat/Street Kid in the lower levels on Coruscant- my favourite trope ever)

Guilt- Sabine (I like to think about Sabine and Kallus Being Besties™- and there's such a huge potential too. Kallus and Sabine both being defectors and having similar pasts- at least about academy and the Empire- us just so much to work with! So here Sabine catches Kallus having a quiet panic attack ambecause he spiralled himself down to it with overthinking- she helps him calm down and they talk about defecting from the Empire and the guilt that comes with changing sides)

Overworking- Rex (the clone captain wanders around the base because he can't sleep, he figures he might take a calm, quiet walk at night- and then he sees Kallus sitting on the floor outside of the Intelligence HQ with a datapad and a few pages of reports on flimsi- he asks what he's doing there, since it's already around midnight and he looks like he needs sleep. Kallus says that he needs to work and that Draven literally pushed him out of the room when he was closing it for the night so Kallus just stayed and worked here- Rex rightfully calls it stupid and forces Kallus to have a walk with him- they take a break around the temple and as they sit and watch the base and the nature and the stars Kallus falls asleep on Rex's shoulder- this is also a friendship I cherish in fics, okay? 🩵)

Food- Kanan (when they eat in the mess or on the Ghost and Kallus is with them, Kanan notices something- he might be blind but he's the first one to realise that Kallus barely eats. And so he carries on with an idea already forming in his head and alongside that he realises Kallus never asks for medical help either or any help for that matter. Like he's trying to make himself as little liability as possible. He corners Kallus about that and after a lot of pushing, Kqllus finally breaks out a "I don't want you to waste resources on me". Oh believe me, they're gonna have a long talk)

Birthday- Hera (it's a foreign thing for Kallus to celebrate one's birthday- because the Empire sucks- and so after seeing how strange and out of place he looked when the crew threw a party for Sabine, Hera made a point to look through his file and throw him a party when it's his birthday 💚)

+1 Name- Kallus shares with Zeb (I just NEED Zeb to be the one to hear that, okay? A name is something so important about one's identity amd person and Zeb having shared his name of Bahryn with Kallus is just gonna make a full circle when Kallus shares his name with Zeb)

I keep thinking about Goro as a former Vault-Tec exec on the run (similar to Wilzig, minus his fate) and Valerie as maybe a Vault Dweller who left her vault prior to the time you decide to do your AU, and became a badass wastelander who knows the rules of the harsh outside world?

Another idea is just combining both Cyberpunk and Fallout together and explore Valerie and Goro's survival when everything they knew and had before is gone. Since Cyberpunk is 2077 and the bombs in Fallout dropped the same year, I feel like something could be done with that 👀

Brain goes brrrr thinking of your babies in the Wasteland, I'm super excited to see what you come up with for your AU, if you do it!

OBSESSED WITH ALL OF THIS

Valerie being an exile from one of the nicer vaults was immediately the first thought I had when I started thinking about the AU because it could parallel so nicely with her CP77 canon. Abernathy could be the vault Overseer, Jenkins could be an overreaching peon who gets Valerie tied up in his plot to become the Overseer which is why she gets kicked out. I was maybe even thinking about Jenkins and Valerie having some kind of arranged marriage situation for a little extra drama.

AND JACKIE COULD WORK IN IT TOO!!! He could be a surface dweller who sees her totally out of her element and takes her under his wing to help her become a Wasteland badass. And he'd stay alive because Valerie needs her bestie!!!! I've also always had a mighty need to see Jackie and Goro interact because I think they'd butt heads a lot initially but could eventually grow to respect each other.

And for Goro, the Insitute came to mind first--Like he could be a bodyguard for a defector who dies (deets pending, definitely need to refresh some of my FO lore) and then Goro is stuck in the Wasteland, totally out of his element, probably seeking vengeance, could come across Valerie at some shantytown, hires her for help, but they get distracted by bullshit per the golden rule of the Wasteland and sexy post-apocalyptic shenanigans ensue!!!!

I'm also thinking I might be able to work in my other girl, my Sole Survivor Audrey Banner, into the chaos because I think she and Valerie would be an awesome duo.

We've been very busy helping family and family's children the past two days so I wasn't able to get much done as far as writing goes, but I did want to share a very ultra specific scene that's been lingering in my mind for Defectors AU

It's of Alexsandr and Tseebo, once the two have become very comfortable friends. [Seth: They're platonic besties💚💚💚.]

Initially, Alexsandr thought Tseebo was a bit mousy. At first because he though it was of the man's previous altercations he received unfairly from the empire, and it was in the beginning. Then Alexsandr thought it may have been because he has an intimidating figure; so he took extra care to be mindful of himself and let Tseebo initiate most things, or, at the very least, present himself docily when he did. And that definitely helped. But Tseebo was still reluctant.

It wasn't until when Tseebo finally started to initiate conversation that Alexsandr had started picking up hints. It was when Tseebo would mouth syllables before vocalizing them, when he would try and rush his responses, give scripted replies and then deflate when it looks like he wants to say more but feels as though the moment has passed, and the final bit was when Alexsandr noted that Tseebo apologizes excessively, primarily about his speech. ("Tseebo apologizes if not making sense." / "Tseebo is sorry for taking long to speak." / "Tseebo is afraid of not being good conversation.")

During that last apologetic note, Alexsandr gently brushed his shoulder against Tseebo's with what he hopes came across as a friendly and comforting smile. "Alexsandr loves conversation with Tseebo. Tseebo is very good conversation."

Even if Tseebo gad only been able to force out a rushed word of gratitude and appreciation, the smile didn't leave his face for hours as they sat together in quiet conversations put between long gaps of their gentle silence.

After that, Alexsandr made sure to give Tseebo extra encouragement, make Tseebo know that there was not a shortage of time for him to think over his words. Alexsandr genuinely found Tseebo to be one of the best conversationalists. He loved listening to him and Ezra talk back forth for hours.

One night, when Alexsandr doesn't have to work the next day, they stay up for hours talking and joking together. They're up long after they thought Ezra has been asleep. Most of the talking has been on Tseebo's part with active commentary from Alexsandr.

"Yes, yes, yes, and then, and then Mira Bridger turns to Morad Sumar and says, 'and this is why Tseebo is the cook!'"

Both men burst out into deep rolls of laughter, Alexsandr needing to lean against Tseebo's shoulder for support lest he sinks off the couch and onto the floor. Tseebo's laughter is much softer, giving him the golden opportunity to witness his friend come undone by a fit that seems to take full control of his lungs. Tseebo beams in pride at his work, giggling to himself all over again.

And what neither of them notice is Ezra around the corner, capturing the moment with Tseebo's camera.

Suomi, going to be renamed to Sue Jinxpop if I get the time and beans, is my oldest toon. Almost maxed out, even! I’ve been building her story and her lore for YEARS, I’ve had this toon for ages.

She owns the estate that Nelly and Grand live on, Nelly was like her apprentice toon, and Grand is her cog bestie. A lot of things happen to her, as a former resistance fighter turned into a sort of defector. It ends with her leaving Toontown for an indefinite period of time. Also she loses a leg!

It just wouldn’t be possible given the circumstances. No matter how you look at it, without the trauma of losing both her parents and severing her ties to Konoha, she wouldn’t be interested in Kakuzu because

He tries to kill her fathers bestie (possibly more than bestie lmao). She hates him.

Or he doesn’t try it and somehow joins Konoha. He’s a defector (aka weak) in her eyes

Originally part of the Calaveras, Elias Navarez saw 8 year old Evelia Torres about to die in a witch burning. He killed everyone who was part of it and then adopted her, defecting from the Calaveras and started his own hunting organization. Originally just Calaveras defectors, the group grows to include other hunters, supernatural creatures, and even some ordinary humans, and the group grows into a family.

On a mission gone wrong, Kallus and Sabine are captured by the Empire and sent to a prison in the inner rim. They escape, but now they’re on the run in the heart of Imperial Territory.

I wanted to write Kallus and Sabine being ex-imperial besties based on the Odyssey.

Bobbie Fortescue- This could be an interesting pair. Both war orphans (well half orphan on Athena's side), both cousins of people directly In The Drama, both separated from their families by their sorting. I see kindred spirits here

Phoenix Dumbledore- I just wanna see what these two would get up to since the Beauxbatons stayed with the ravenclaws.

Venus Malfoy- Athena would be the friend supporting her to rebel against her parents.

Atalanta Jackson- As the two girls closest to Jason I feel they're constantly tag teaming to keep him alive 🤣

Cassandra Aelius- People think Stella's kind of crazy for trying to tell the future using the stars so I feel like she would at least listen to her prophecies even if she doesn't always believe them

Crystal Solace- I feel like we've discussed these two before and I still want them to be besties

Elyana Chase- we're always here for half sister adventures!

Stella Beauregard- I think that these two would be friends. I also think Stella would see Alexa and Lucian and be like "Ugh you guys are disgusting" because that's how cute they are

Victoria Blofis- She seems so chill and I think that could have that kind of friendship you can only have with people you've known through all your awkward phases.

Gwen Macintosh

Brandy Hayes- I'm seeing these two being like parallel "one girl field agent" type of friends who can bond by laughing at/bitching about their teams together

Xenia Hart- I'm guessing she's Harry's daughter so I see them being best friends since babyhood and the ultimate agent team when their grown up. We'd either have to give one of them a new codename or we could play with the hilarity of two Guinevere's on top of the two galahads

Rikki Lane

Chloe Grace Routledge- I see these two acting as literally ALL of John B's impulse control.

Cody Maybank- These two and Kie would be terrifying together. I can already tell. I don't know why though.

Jo Clark- Rikki would totally be sympathetic to Jo running to the Cut to get away from her problems. They would bond over being kook defectors and Rikki would offer to let Jo stay with her or borrow clothes or anything

Sharon Henderson

Beth Munson (Thompson?)- I feel like Sharon would be like the Dustin to Nancy, Beth, and Barb's Mike Lucas and Will. The one who joined the squad late (sixth grade) but blended in flawlessly

Cara Henderson- can you say ultimate big sister duo? From what I can tell, Cara would be the athletic sister to Sharon's need sister and I love that!

Samantha Mayfield- They would totally team up to kick monster ass.

Sidney Hopper- These two and Jonathan would have totally been like the three musketeers growing up so I could see a besties turned worst enemies and back progression with them.

Stacy Byers- Similar to Sidney, I'm seeing a "sisters in all but blood" situation

Roxy Winchester

Ainsley Winchester- Roxy always wanted a sister so I think she would love Ainsley. I can see them trying to be the peacekeepers of the family and rolling their eyes at the boys constantly.

Deborah Winchester- these two would have either been best friends or constantly at each other's throats after John found Roxy. Either way, I think they would have loved each other. I could see them being a formidable hunting team to rival their brothers.

Elle Winchester- the adopted sisters with the secret pasts? I love it!!! Potential for lots of drama and shocking reveals!

Esther Cott- I'm not sure exactly what these two would do together but I feel like they would make interesting friends

Drea Jones

Ana Andrews- Total parallels for their brothers. They have the brain cells. Do not get paid enough for this shit.

Charlotte Jones- The female role model Drea needs in her life. Sister Bonding (TM). Will fuck you up.

Delaney Carlyle- Chaos. All the chaos. I like it!

Fallon Parris Jones- You know that part in The Parent Trap between Annie and Hallie realizing they're twins and the end of camp? I feel like that's these two when Fallon comes back to Riverdale

Harper Harrison- These two would be great friends. Drea is totally the kind of friend to learn sign language along with Harper so they can talk shit about people without anybody knowing. Also was Riverdale High Drama Department's designated choreographer, she would talk about musicals all day with her

Kris Keller- As Kevin's best friend, I could see Drea becoming a regular fixture in the Keller household to the point where Tom will walk into one of the twins' rooms to find Drea sprawled on the floor with her sketchbook and just be like "yeah sure why not?"

Lyra Lovell- Creative dancer girls!!! Will spill blood for Jughead Jones. Exhausted by Gladys Jones.

Tanya Conway- As someone who loves a good mystery and, thanks to Archie, never really believed Svenson was the Black Hood, dress would totally help Tanya prove her dad's innocence.

Roni Stark

Alessia Stark- We could do some interesting things here with both of them having the serum used on them. Plus I've never considered Roni having a big sister. Could be fun!

Adelaide Stark- Roni would absolutely ADORE Adi! She'd be the cool aunt who took her on trips aunt bought her whatever she wanted. She'd also be the one to bake cookies and make pillow courts for movie marathons.

Aris Stark-- Much like with Adi, Roni would be Aris's ultimate supporter growing up. When the boys go to space and the girls are left behind, Roni tries to guide Aris through developing unexpected superpowers. She's been there herself so she should be able to handle it, right?

Athena Stark- Ultimate Aunt Roni would help her ambitious niece get anything her little heart desired

Ava Potts- Ava describing Roni "my aunt who's not really my aunt bursts into flames. Sure why not?"

Cora (& Orion) Royce- Roni would totally love this little girl and her determination to help protect her family. She'd do everything she could to help her

Zora Wright- I could see these two being great friends

Cora Hargreeves

Alice Hargreeves- Cora likes to think she was the empathetic sibling growing up. She tried to include Viktor as much as possible and would have treated Alice no different. When they grow up and find themselves the most stable of their family, they're have to be the brain cells to help keep everyone focused to stop the apocalypse

Andromeda Hargreeves- Cora would try to help Andromeda develop her powers by levitating small objects around her for her to try to catch. She doesn't blame her for leaving and welcomes her home

Audrey- They would totally bond over music and being the "artsy" siblings

Cassie Hargreeves- Oh this could be fun! Cora's psychic but she has a lot of trouble with that part of her powers do when cause around he uses Cora more for her telekinesis. Then when caddies gone he would push her more to have visions.

Cleo Sullivan- Anyone who can work with Diego on a regular basis and not kill him is immediately a friend of Cora's. She'd be glad to have another girl around who knows how to fight

Kamaria Hargreeves- We love a long lost sister in this house! I see a lot of room for shenanigans here

Max Carmichael- Cora would either love Max or she would annoy the hell out of her. I'm not sure which. Maybe both

Mira Hargreeves- "My thirteen year old brother and his eighteen year old daughter just fell through a time portal to stop the apocalypse. Sounds about right." -Cora Hargreeves

Mireille Labonair- Cora would probably be wary of anyone who agreed to work with her father but once she got past that, she'd love that Luther had someone who made him happy

Odessa Hargreeves- Cora would hate having her sister resent their family but she wouldn't her.

Poppy- Cora would love Poppy! She adores Grace so having a sister like her would be awesome. When they grow up she would love getting to finally show her the world!

Sierra Nearing- Cora actually works at Griddy's after leaving the Academy. Sierra would probably be her first real friends and I love that! Cora would show her all the sculptures she works on when she's not at the diner. Curiously, her shifts never line up with her siblings' visits so she still doesn't know Sierra knows them beyond what's she's told her. Even Diego and Klaus who she actually sees regularly.

Vienna Montgomery- As Diego's designated favorite sibling, Cora would have met Vienna and immediately love her. They would be great friends and cora would only be mildly surprised but not unhappy when Vienna shows up to the funeral.

Virginia West- Cora would absolutely love Ginny! Books are some of her favorite things and watching Ginny literally bring stories to life would be like magic to her.

Wilhelmina Hargreeves- Cora might resent Willa a little bit for leaving, but she still loves her and understands why she did it. When she comes back for the funeral, Cora is glad to see Willa just like all the others.

Mickey Daniels (& Melissa van Aren, Emily Kirkpatrick, and Amy Turner)

Alyssa Solomon- If there's one thing Mickey Daniels loves, it's a challenge. Befriending Alyssa Solomon has proven to be one of the bigger challenges Mickey's encountered. The girl has secrets on top of secrets. Lucky for Mickey, secrets are her chosen trade.

Annalise Goode- Mickey's part of the welcome committee for new students so she'd be totally excited to meet Annalise! I could see them being like workout partners and training together

Leia Gallagher- Mickey would think it's so coul that Latoya is a direct descendant of Gilly! They'd probably spend a lot of time talking about places they've travelled and having parental figures who are always away.

Sami Upton

Abbie Hudson- These two would totally have been best friends growing up! They would have spent all their time practicing gymnastics moves and driving Finn and Noah crazy. They probably would have decided to join Glee together just to try it and both fell in love with it.

Christina Hummel- Sami doesn't agree with the way the football team treats the Hummel twins. She also doesn't do much to interfere for fear of losing her own social standing. As an original Glee member, she's been friends with Kurt and at least frenemies with Christina since freshman year.

Joy Schuester- Sami would totally be the friend Joy would look at when Will does something crazy/stupid/embarrassing like "Do you see what I have to deal with???" Only for Sami to sheriff and start laughing like "I'm sorry I can't help you, but this is hilarious."

Kendall Pierce- Sami would love Kendall because she too would see no reason to choose between cheer and Glee. I could see them being kind of a mirror for Quinn and Britt

like I love all of the defectors dynamics with each other but those two are so all over the place and it's so fun?? They hate each other [in the most affectionate way possible] also they're best friends and they goof off together and also they fistfight each other and they make fun of each other and they fight and butt heads like crazy as fuck but then they have moments and then they're besties and I'm. AUHGH

It really was the catalyst that catapulted their friendship to this beautiful "I disagree with you on so much and we're both too stubborn to budge, but goddammit I care SO much about you"

Anyway imagine wanting to return home before people start thinking you’re dead or something cause you have a sister to take care of and don’t want people to find out you were in Inkopolis since the guy you work for would label you a defector just to see you humiliated but you get stuck with the dumb teens who tried to kill you and your loved ones AND you have to work with them to get back home all while watching them fall in love or some shit. Imagine.

Rig’s story as of now is that he got stuck in Inkopolis and has to try and get back home which is something I know other people have done with their Salmonid ocs but. Eh I guess it’s all abt the execution of it. I guess he swam to one of the boats to attack it or something and ended up accidentally smuggling himself to inkopolis bc he is. Not always that smart.

The leader of his battalion is a Goldie who goes by Caesar. Caesar is horrifically entitled and cocky guy who has a group of high-ranking boss salmonids (who also go by shorter names) do his dirty work for him. He picks on people he doesn’t like and accuses Rig of defecting when he’s missing and evidence points to him possibly still being alive.

Kyoto (taller one w/ beret) and Jasmine (shorter one) are roommates and besties, they go to the same school and are on the same Turf War team. Both do Salmon Run to make a living, but are slowly falling out of love with it as the reality of Grizzco dawns on them. There’s mutual crushing but neither realizes what they feel yet.

One aspect about them I love: I love and respect that even though he was in the Empire for a long time and actually believed in its cause and that it was helping the Galaxy (not like probably some of the others who joined to gain influence, money or power) he was still capable of changing, he didn't ignore the new facts and point of view presented to him by Zeb (and I imagine ignoring it would be very easy), instead he took steps to actually ask questions, find out the truth and eventually had enough courage to defect (my baby's character development is something that can be so personal...)

One aspect I wish more people understood about them: No idea actually

One (or more) headcanon(s) I have about this character: BUCKLE UP IT'S MY TIME TO SHINE!

He grew up in the Underworld, probably surrounded by many immigrant families, so he grew up in a diverse environment and knows a couple of languages besides Basic (btw he taught himself that posh Coruscanti accent in the Academy)

He would probably have a good alcohol tolerance (an Eastern European one, you know)

He used to be super self conscious about his freckles, many said it made him look childlish and unprofessional, but Zeb loves them and thinks they're absolutely adorable

He loves to stargaze, since he couldn't do that in the Underworld as a kid (bonus points if he's always amazed by plants and forests and nature for that exact reason)

He has scars after Onderon (like on his chest, back and arms) and is very self conscious about them

He cannot, for the love of his life, take a compliment

He's got very pretty penmanship

One character I love seeing them interact with: Zeb of course, duh! They are my sweethearts and I love them and not only because it's an obvious ship, I genuinely love their interactions. I adore The Honourable Ones and the way they were able to find the way to relate to each other despite being on two different sides of the war and that Zeb was the one who opened Kallus' eyes (and also shoutout to that small part of part 2 of Zero Hour, where they get the coordinates from Kallus' escape pod and Zeb just looks so scared and concerned for his man, like yes!)

One character I wish they would interact with/interact with more: I would honestly love to see him and Sabine become besties, they have the potential, both being defectors from the Empire, I love the concept of them growing closer and becoming friends and bonding over stuff like gossiping about old Imperial bosses. I also feel like these two would be the ones who cook best out of the crew so maybe like, kitchen gossip sessions over making dinner? Idk, I love it (oh and btw he totally lets Sabine paint his nails when she's bored)

One (or more) headcanon(s) I have that involve them and one other character:

As above, I think Kallus can cook quite decent meals, he just never had the time and so when he's in the Rebellion, Sabine encourages him to cook meals with her and he rediscovers that passion (and is later able to enjoy it fully on Lira San)

I feel like all droids love him and he's the only one besides Hera, who Chopper actually respects and wouldn't mess with (also because Kallus is nice to Chopper and he loves to be cherished, my little war criminal)

He's an orphan from the Coruscanti Underworld and had to fight his way to the surface and to the Imperial Academy and later off planet and his backstory is something he bonds over with Ezra (bonus points if they exchange tips on pickpocketing and shoplifting, since they both used to do that to survive)

what if MC was a Pearl? what would be her relationship with the guys?

Ooh, that's a good one!!! Sans is a treasured and powerful gem, after all, it stands to reason he'd have a pearl. She's not the fanciest pearl, those go to the diamonds, but she's definitely very high quality.

Sans: Sans (a kyanite) and Mc were besties from the start. He was planning to stay cold with her as he had been told by his fellow gems what a pearl was supposed to be for, but as soon as she formed from her gem and introduced herself he was crushing hard and wanted to be close. In private they would chat and make fun of each other and spend hours together, and in public/when there were visitors they would put on their best master/servant act (with a few well hidden smiles and giggles). One accidental fusion in private later and the crushing becomes mutual. He took her everywhere with him, even by gem standards- including to Earth... And he really doesn't like the idea that she could be with someone else after having her to himself for so many years.

Red: A ruby guard regularly assigned to Sans, including on his mission to Earth. Despite being supposed to protect his kyanite charge he spent every opportunity during his assignments to covertly flirt with Sans's pearl- Mc. Their first meeting was a while after Mc formed and just like Sans he thought she was beautiful, and precious, and wanted her as his own. He's still flirty and smooth but he's insecure about never being able to have her because he's a common undesirable ruby. Could you imagine? A ruby with a pearl? ... Crazy...

Skull: Mc discovered Skull hiding out on Earth during Sans's mission. Skull thought he'd be ratted out to the authorities and shattered for the crime of imperfection... But she was kind to him, and helped him, and vouched for him when the other two showed up. He attached to her instantly and wouldn't go anywhere without her... He finally has someone. Someone who wants to protect him instead of persecute him. He's finally not alone.

Hit: A powerful gem aristocrat prized for his flawless 'royal red' colour, he would often visit other treasured gems to increase his social standing. On one of those trips he decided to visit Sans, and despite having several pearls of his own, he found himself very much entranced with this polite, delicate, beautiful one who so clearly thought of her master as more than a master. Once he left he couldn't stop thinking about her, and the possibility of owning her- so he made it his goal to have her. And Sans and the other contenders abandoning homeworld for Earth made his job so much easier... Shattering wanted defectors and taking her? Two birds, one stone.

So, let's talk foreshadowing for chapter 956

A perhaps unnecessarily long essay on X Drake. With pictures, because after 10 years, I wanted to be extra.

As I mentioned previously, I have been waiting 10 years for this reveal. When Drake was first introduced, it was no big deal. Former Marine turned pirate/criminal. Happened/s in real life. Thought nothing of it. But when Kizaru started interacting with Drake - that's when it sent up red flags. (Do I detect a pun?)

The Initial Foreshadow

It was Drake who came across Kizaru - not wanting to. Don't blame him. Kizaru may be a goofy guy, but he is seriously dangerous - and of all of the people present, Drake would know that best as a former Marine. 

It was Kizaru addressing Drake as Rear Admiral Drake, present tense, in chapter 508, that first caught my attention. It was small, perhaps a shock on Kizaru's part to see Drake; but an odd and noted statement on my part. Even if characters are "new," there are still base perceptions we should have about them. Such as, Drake is a former Marine: a former Rear Admiral, a higher rank, with what we later learn is possibly a stolen Marine ship, rebranded for his piracy. To begin with: Drake should be a high priority for treason, capture, and execution. But he wasn't, so that's sloppy - but considering Sengoku was at HQ and The Terror Themselves, the Marine Admirals, could float around on an order… that wasn’t adding up. Kizaru calling Drake Rear Admiral... it’s odd. Caught off guard. I’ll let it slide.

Next chapter, 509, Kizaru repeats his mistake - he calls Drake a Rear Admiral (pardon the scanlation error) in the present tense - and then he has to correct himself to Former Rear Admiral.

So, to recap: by this time, Drake is a highly ranked defector with a stolen ship and a reputation of brutality months to at least a year in the making in order to establish himself a reputation as a Supernova. For Kizaru to be making the mistake of referring to his rank in the present tense twice, one has to question why. Drake should be well established, well spoken of, as a former within the ranks of the military, and particularly the upper echelon who would be keeping tabs on him and his destruction because, for some reason, they’re allowing it. Kizaru then goes into an explanation and over the pages Drake is uncomfortable, seemingly because he is with still Admiral Kizaru and he wants to leave. In reality and in my interpretation, Kizaru is almost playful, taunting even, as if he and Drake are in on a joke others aren't supposed to know about. Like, “See, I came this close to saying something I shouldn't have, but I recovered at the last minute, you see? A total save.”

Kizaru proceeds with a thorough thrashing of the present pirates, because that's his job and the role Drake has accepted as an undercover agent. Because by this time, to me, it was obvious Drake was not a real defector but for some reason undercover. Kizaru couldn't blow the cover of their agent, so he kicked the asses of all present and let them all go because Drake had a job to complete. If he let just one pirate (Drake) go, it'd have been suspicious. Kizaru had to act accordingly. The Straw Hats needed apprehending also aided in this, as it gave him an excuse to leave the defeated pirates for pickup by other Marines.

Another thing of interest is Kizaru giving Drake permission to attack the Pacifista in chapter 509. In doing so, this would allow Drake to know that he has a superior’s permission to essentially damage their own weapon (because he might not inherently have wanted to), but it would also allow Marines to gauge the effectiveness of the Pacifista against an opponent with fully known abilities. It would also help Drake in gaining the ‘trust’ of the other pirates, who might become suspicious if Drake is hesitant to participate.

So, Why Drake In Particular?

Because he's a fucking dinosaur, that's why. Like Kaido of the Beasts ain't gonna want another fucking dinosaur in his ranks. Only two his besties are an herbivorous dinosaur and a pteronodon, so an actual fucking carnivorous dinosaur? Hell fucking yeah.

So, after the Battle of Marineford, when our Supernovas are heading off to the New World, Paradise, we learn Drake's intention: challenge Kaido.

How to Impress Your Local Dragon Emperor

I don't know about y'all, but when Drake attacked Scotch, to me, it didn’t seem like a challenge towards Kaido for territory or to overthrow him. As a former Marine of considerable rank, Drake shouldn’t be that stupid. He knows how to plan and attack. In other words, this was strategic and for a purpose. This was more of a knock on Kaido's door for attention and admission into the club than to piss all over his doorstep like a dog claiming territory (sort of like the beef between a certain redheaded guy with another redheaded guy). As previously established in the last several years of this series, Kaido was impressed and let him in.

Keeping Up the Facade, part 1

The real question is, does Kaido suspects anything?

As someone who has been looking forward to this; like everybody else, I've kinda grown fond of my slowly building impressions of Drake and worry for his general safety. You know, our beloved Rosinante has placed some worry in our hearts. In-story, Drake’s been undercover with Kaido for 2 years. That’s enough time to build trust, but the trust of someone with Drake’s background would be harder to keep. Either Kaido trusts blindly once you’re sworn (and proven) your allegiance, or he’s always going to have a hint of suspicion.

Speaking of Rosi: The Flashback, on Minion Island

The flashback introduction of Drake brings us the introduction of Drake's father, the Marine turned abusive pirate, Barrels. To throw a little head cannon in; honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Barrels forced Drake to eat the devil fruit to get the power from it, in the form of someone he can control, but not have to suffer any of the actual consequences of having eaten a devil fruit. Drake was shown to be a happy kid in the SBS. Drake, by the time of the flashback, was between 19 and 20 years old - an adult - and he did not fight back against or leave his abusive father. Trigger warning for abuse victims and survivors. He was terrified of his father. He probably took that abuse for many years and was expected to take it without a whimper or cowering; think back to how he braced himself for Kizaru’s kick. He was old enough to leave, but he couldn't. Why? Because he feared his father. His father could track him down before he got away, harm him, maybe he’d even tried it before; probably told him he'd amount to nothing in the real world, especially if found out to be a pirate; and Barrels probably told Drake exactly what would happen to him if he was caught for trying to escape, or trying to escape again. Escape was useless. There would never be any escaping, so why even bother.

I, myself, have experience as an abuse survivor. I have decided not to go into it, but please know that I do recall my experiences when it comes to understanding others - even fictional characters.

To finish this section up: we all cope in different ways. Even if the story is fictional, a lot of us find familiarity in that fictional situation and know how the fictional people might turn out - just like us real people. There are some people who will become abusers, oftentimes reflecting our abuser. Some who might abuse themselves but not other people. But there are also a lot of us who will not do any kind of defiance, abuse, or harm (to ourselves or otherwise) without reason because we know what it's like to be subjected to unwarranted cruelty. End trigger warning.

If there is one thing Oda does right, it is character development. Drake “becoming like his father by abandoning the Marines to become a violent pirate” or “wanting to see the other side,” it doesn’t make much sense when you finally get to the flashback. When Dolfamingo attacked Minion Island, Drake fled for his life. He was absolutely terrified. Terrified of Doflamingo, terrified of his father. He ran right into the arms of the Marines. A young, unwitting pirate, preferred the Marines over his own father. And he felt little remorse that his father died. And unlike Kizaru’s suggestion, he doesn’t really need to “see the other side” considering, you know, he was previously a pirate. (Probably not common knowledge.)

The Marines could put 2 and 2 together. This kid they found was Barrels' son. (Had the same surname.) He was an accomplice. Under duress. Rather than punish him, he was allowed to join the Marines. Yeah, there's a possibility it could have been 'punishment' or an alternative, but it also could have been something he wanted. He honestly probably didn't have much else in life, or maybe when he was little he considered becoming a Marine like his father, and to help people, not hurt them. (He also probably later adopted the X because it carries the same value as Diez, but distances himself from his father personally and professionally; or he just adopted it for piracy.) If Drake had the violent tendencies his father had towards him, it would have been noted earlier by the Marines and probably shown in his earlier appearances. Instead, we always received a very calm, observant persona.

With his experience and skills, Drake was the perfect person to go undercover in Kaido's ranks. Maybe the Marines were curious about Kaido's growing fleet, the SMILE, or maybe there are Marine spies in all of the Emperors’ fleets. Drake just fit perfectly into Kaido's fleet.

Keeping Up the Facade, part 2

As for the “bad” things we know Drake must have done as a pirate and under Kaido. There’s no reason to disbelieve that some of it could be exaggerated, particularly early on. Quite a bit would have to be honestly earned. So going back to the abuse Drake endured. While not all abuse victims become abusers, it is still important to understand that all abuse victims compartmentalize their abuse and tend to dissociate from it. We had to endure abuse, and we all developed ways with coping with it. Not all of us will inflict pain on other people (most of us will not), but we can under certain circumstances and for specific reasons. Not from evil intent, but because we might deem the action necessary in a more clinical, observational way.

To put it in context of Drake, he endured abuse under his father. Joined the Marines. Perhaps despises pirates, or perhaps just despises certain pirates and mentalities. He has agreed to help spy on Kaido, which means adopting the persona of an abuser and a pirate. Drake has this background through knowledge of his father and personal experiences. He probably doesn’t feel good about the things he has done, has to do, and witnesses, but he can compartmentalize his feelings. He can separate his emotions from his actions. He has put up a mental wall that protects his humanity from his inhumane actions, allowing him to do things in a dissociated way while still remaining fully conscious and in control.

Which brings us to the present Wano arc. He’s fulfilling his role as a Headliner by going after the dissenters of Orochi and Kaido, such as the Alliance and the incredible Stealth Black (less incredible O-Soba Mask). But he’s also shown hints of reservation, such as his refusal to enter the bathhouse. Now, already having this perception of Drake in my mind, it worked for me. He’s not just a “shy boy,” he’s a modest boy, a decent boy. He’s playing a bad guy, he’s not actually a bad guy. Going in a bathhouse full of women in varying states of undress. Sorry, a good guy, a Marine, more than likely isn’t going to do that without feeling ashamed or embarrassed, especially if people of the opposite gender are involved.

In addition, Hawkins has hinted Drake has been behaving strangely in their capture of Law. We later learn that Drake more than likely assisted in Law’s release. Next two questions would be, what was Drake doing, and if and how much Drake told Law about his role (if Law didn’t already know about it)? There’s some speculation that Law and Drake maybe already have a familiarity: as citizens of North Blue, the fact that Drake’s father had and was looking to sell the Ope Ope fruit, while Law is currently the user/carrier of said fruit, and the fact that Drake may have served some of his time in North Blue. Or they met each other on the Grand Line. Or Law may have previously overhead/seen Drake reporting to the Marines. Really, speculation is endless. (There’s also more theorization involving Koby’s connection to Law.)

But then we have to consider the Marines. Particularly, Sakazuki and Borsalino (Akainu and Kizaru) discussing what to do with Wano.

Like, how would you know about the strength of the samurai? Where are you gonna be getting that information if not from somebody on Wano? Probably not somebody native to Wano, as whoever it is would have to have connections to the Marines. That person would had to have fled Wano, joined the Marines, gained a reputation as a trustworthy Marine, only to sneak back into Wano, and gain another reputation as a trustworthy follower of Kaido or Orochi in order to become useful as a spy, when a Wano defector probably wouldn’t be re-accepted. I mean, there could be an easier way.

In all seriousness, it is interesting that the Marines seem to have an interest in intervening on Wano. Either to pull Drake out or to actually overthrow Kaido.

The next question would be whether Oda was just being cryptic in his delivery of the conversation between Sakazuki and Borsalino for the sake of keeping the Drake reveal private to us, or if the Marines themselves are suspicious that someone is eavesdropping on them or has ulterior motives?

Perhaps CP0? The World Government?

Of course, it could be an open secret for the upper echelon of the Marines and Sakazuki is actually just waiting for intel before blowing Drake’s cover (which could get him killed - not what you want to do to your spy). We’ll just have to watch how things play out.
