A client opted for cord blood donation, which works with encapsulation, & is one option. Other options include banking or simply delayed cord clamping for baby's benefit. #birthoptions #birthplan #cordblooddonation #cordbloodbanking #delayedcordclamping #kaiserpermanente #roseville #placentatime #placentamom #sacramento #placentaencapsulation (at Kaiser Roseville Women And Children's) https://www.instagram.com/p/CboXxMsLQOd/?utm_medium=tumblr

This placenta is so beautiful. I always say women are magical, but this brilliant organ really drives it home. We have been blessed with so many placenta clients this summer, including one that we had to fight hospital policy to get released. Why would anyone consider this gorgeous creature medical waste? I use to be grossed by it. Today I am totally in Love! And I have my humble respect 🙏 💗 It’s so beautiful🌹, so amazing💝, magical✨, important💪, natural🌳... It truly is a tree of life! I wish 🧙‍♀️every mom 🤱🏻would get her natural, normal by standard, totally acceptable postpartum gift 🎁 -> a jar of encapsulated placenta. Because... when I finally, with my last child, tested the theory about the effects... it totally blew my mind! It gave me much much more from what I expected or knew. It was for the first time I actually was able to enjoy my postpartum time, my time with a newborn, with a baby. All thanks to encapsulated placenta. Priceless!!!! 😍🤩🤟 #willmafied #magic #postpartum #placenta #baby #newborn #placentaencapsulation #respect #natural #normal #Repost @bodywise_birthwise with @get_repost ・・・ ✨✨✨ After the birth of the baby the placenta continues to function for a short while. The blood may take up to 2 hours to stop flowing through the umbilical cord, which will then collapse. Our ancestors believed that a part of a child’s soul stays with the placenta. Even after the placenta was born it performed it’s function as a root, as thallas (Greek for storage) and as fertile soil. This is why it was never to be taken to far away from the child. The tree planted on top of it had to be in the immediate vicinity of the house. ✨✨✨ . . What a juicy cord! The umbilical cord is covered with Wharton’s jelly, which cushions the cord from most compression that occurs while the fetus is still in utero. 📸: @monetnicolebirth * * * #midwife #midwifical #midwifery #umbilicalcord #midwives #pregnancy #birth #obgyn #childbirtheducation #childbirth #delayedcordclamping

PLACENTA MAGIC. look hard at this gorgeous photo by @elliana_allon AND think hard about the mindblowing truth shared by midwife @laughing.moon ::: “Lets talk about OCC or Optimal Cord Clamping (often referred to as delayed cord clamping.) There are dozens and dozens of benefits but right now, I want to shine the spot light on just one. Just ☝🏼 tiny but absolutely life changing bit of info. So ya know about stem cells right? Like, that super shiny, well advertised meaning behind Cord Blood Banking. Save those stem for the future cause your kid may get a rare illness and could possibly be saved with the stem cells harvested from their plump, pulsating umbilical cord. Okay, so let that sink in. Umbilical cord stem cells are all the rage in science right now. They are being used to intravenously rejuvenate old, failing bodies. Even Mel Gibson took his 80-some year old father in who had failing vision and hearing and was wheel-chair bound to receive this miracle, fountain of youth medicine. His papa began walking and almost had 20/20 vision shortly after the miracle trip to receive these umbilical cord stem cells. Do you know the purpose of stem cells? They are the repairers, the makers. If it’s hurt or broke or sick, stem cells can become ANYTHING the body needs. They can become nerves, skin tissue, muscle. Now let’s think about birth. A tiny fragile being with a skull that features overlapping bones passing through the tiny bony pelvis of its mother. No matter how physiological the birth may go, there is inherit risk of birth trauma due to the actual physiological factors of human birth. Those umbilical cord stem cells are suppose to go to the newly born baby. They are suppose to be free flowing from the placenta to the baby. They are suppose to be in large quantities to move throughout the entire body looking for any areas that may need repair, or healing, or a boost. That is their PURPOSE. Imagine, imagine if we actually really researched Optimal Cord Clamping. Just imagine.” ❣️ ##BLOODMAGIC #optimalcordclamping #delayedcordclamping #stemcell #umbilicalcord #doulalife #iamdoula

Reposted from @birthuprising At birth, ⅓ (or more) of your baby’s blood is still in the placenta. That means if you immediately cut the cord, your baby is missing A LOT of blood. If you were missing ⅓ (33%) of your blood, your heart and respiratory rates would increase, your blood pressure would drop, and you would become anxious and confused. If you lost 40% of your blood, all those symptoms would be worse and you would become lethargic. If you lost more than 40% you would die. So how long should you wait after birth to clamp the cord? Ideally you would “wait for white”. This means the cord isn’t clamped until it has stopped pulsing and turned white because all of the blood is now inside the baby. This is usually over 5 minutes (I’ve waited until the birth of the placenta with my two homebirths [about an hour]). But delaying cord clamping for even 60 seconds has been shown to have benefits including: 🔆 Increased hemoglobin 🔆 Increased iron 🔆 Increased blood pressure (early clamping means BP can be too low) 🔆 Increased urinary output 🔆 Increased body temperature (early clamping babies are colder) If baby is having a slower transition to breathing outside the womb upon their birth, keeping them attached to the cord will also continue to provide them with oxygen until they begin breathing on their own. Did you delay cord clamping with your babies? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #birthfacts #delayedcordclamping #dcc #waitforwhite #cordclamping #umbilicalcord #evidencebasedpractice #bornathome #newborn #nicu #nicubaby #nicumom #hospitalbirth #healthybaby #physiology #physiologicalbirth #postpartum #newbaby #newmom #birthplan #birthoptions #birthmatters #knowyouroptions https://www.instagram.com/p/CYic4d3LcOl/?utm_medium=tumblr

Do you want your baby to keep 66% of or 100% of their blood at birth? 👣 That may seem like a no-brainer, but after a baby is born it's common for their umbilical cord to be immediately cut. 🚼 Did you know that 1/3 of your baby's necessary blood is still circulating through the cord to the placenta at that time? It only takes a few minutes for the blood to return into baby's body. You can tell by looking at the color of the umbilical cord: When there's blood still flowing through it, the cord is dark and plump. Once that transfer is complete, the cord becomes white and limp. Don't watch the clock, watch the cord. 👍 WAIT FOR WHITE. ⌛ • • • #optimalcordclamping #delayedcordclamping #waitforwhite #bestforbaby #birthisbeautiful #birthinginstincts #healthybaby #cutthecord #newborn #newdad #newmom #birth #pregnancy (at Doula Heidi Duncan - Expecting New Life Birth Services)

Jonathan Rhys Meyers' Wife Mara Says Actor 'Helped Deliver' Son in Intimate Post About At-Home Birth
Jonathan Rhys Meyers helped deliver his son!
In an intimate post in honor of Midwife Day on Friday, the 39-year-old actor's wife, Mara, shared details of their son's at-home birth.
RELATED: Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Fiancee Mara Lane Expecting First Child Together
Wolf Rhys Meyers was delivered on Dec. 15, 2016 at the couple's home with the help of a midwife. In her Instagram post, Mara said in her Instagram post that Jonathan was "so awesome" at helping her through the delivery.
"I just wanted to take this day as an opportunity to thank our lovely remarkable team #DrStuFischbein #BethCannon @axehuggergirl @catalina.clark #BirthingInstincts that helped deliver Wolf," Mara wrote alongside a slideshow of images from the birth. "It was better than we could have ever hoped/prayed for and am eternally thankful. Would not have had it any other way."
"#NaturalBirth #DelayedCordClamp #HomeBirth #AtHomeBirth #PeacefulBirth under 3 hours. *Wolf was born in his caul sak (like his Mama was) so... we did not know I was in labor until half way through as water never broke," she continued. "Johnny was able to help deliver Wolf as he entered this world and it was the best day of our lives. He was so so awesome as I would have probably passed out if could have seen what was happening."
"Angels were present in spiritual realm and earth angels with our amazing team. Thank you God & Birthing Instincts, #HappyMidWifeDay," Mara concluded.

The actress and producer also shared a sweet family pic on Saturday, calling her husband the "best father."
"J is thee best Father btw. Ridiculously loving, super protective, patient and attentive," she captioned the cute pic. "Wolf is basically snuggled, kissed, adored, sang to and entertained any free minute he has by his Papa. #LuckyMom #BlessedWife 💕."
While Jonathan and Mara are just now sharing details about their birth, Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed announced on Thursday that they were expecting.

This is NOT delayed cord clamping. Delayed cord clamping is usually done 2-5 mins (10 if you're lucky) after birth or when done pulsating. Look at that cord. It is so full of blood, so thick! So beneficial. Would you believe it if i told you the first picture was taken about 3-4 mins after birth? Well, it was and if you didn't ask for delayed cord clamping, it would of been cut already. 🙊 The benefits of keeping the cord attatched until its fully transferred all nutrients, blood and stem cells (it will be white, as seen in the last picture) are so wide. Delaying the clamping of the cord allows more blood to transfer from the placenta to the infant, sometimes increasing the infant's blood volume by up to a third. 😮 The iron in the blood increases infants' iron storage, and iron is essential for healthy brain development. Finally, receiving their vital stem cells. This results in decreased chance of developing anemia and also increases immunity to other potential diseases. Research has proven how powerful (and magical) stem cells can be, why not let our babies keep the stem cells that are in fact theirs to keep. We kept the cord attatched until it was flimsy and white, which was about an hour and 20 mins. (Though, if/when we have more kids in the future, I will fully go forth with a lotus birth, which is whole different beneficial part of after-birth recovery.) The second picture is the raw, non-cropped, no blurring, no adjustments made and how it was in the moment. The third picture is the placenta and cord after we cut it. ☆ ☆ ☆ #cordclamping #delayedcordclamping #knowthebenefits #homebirth #benefits #stemcells #iron #natural #placenta #umbilicalcord #life #momlife #beautiful #happiness #joy #ourlife #lotusbirth #naturalbirth https://www.instagram.com/p/BoPX7XiHI8F/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=6kndukjw7i3v
