I saw an excerpt from a book, I think by a Palestinian Christian, talking about how western Christians think of the holy land as a fantasy land and not a real place with actual people. That stuck with me, wish I could find the book it's from

i know the book you're talking about, and went to look for it and couldn't find it. anyway the concept it's talking about is called "biblical orientalism" and like you said it pertains to a fantasy viewing of the "holy land" and its inhabitants in a very dehumanizing way.

i am personally not religious or well-read on theology enough to be qualified (or interested tbh) in discussing what "real" christianity is, and i have no intention of convincing anyone that ours is more valid, but what i NEED people to understand is that regardless of the contents of the religion itself, the geopolitical factors that surround arab christians makes it *incomparable* to western christianity. this isn't a matter of 'welllll in the west they worship this but in the east we worship that'. it's a matter of a long history of oppression and the fight against western imperialism. you can't apply the same views you have on western christianity to an arab christian. an arab christian does not hold any power or privilege over other arabs, and you're absolutely deranged if you think a palestinian christian of all people benefits from being christian. im curious how a yandere Yuu would vibe with the great 7. they aren't good people (duh) but would they at least try to keep Yuu on a somewhat good path? even if its a student the 7 like, like the dorm leaders, their number one is Yuu, so I can't imagine they'd feel bothered, in addition to the being evil. And with half the cast having angsty backstories, I cant imagine it would be hard to make some justicifacation (I messed that up, didn't I?) for kidnapping the object of Yuus afection

Tbh I don't really care for yanderes– don't get me wrong the concept is cool but I feel it's never done right, it's either always tropey or overly edgy– but the 7 encouraging Yuu to be as deranged at they are is great. I mean look at Male and Grimhilde, they'd definitely be like "if he doesn't like you– lock him up!!

Meanwhile Hades advice depends on which story you believe. It's either "go kidnapp them and feed them a pomegranate" or "idk leave your house unlocked and if they love you they will walk in and make themselves home"

What really makes the Blue Lions such interesting and well-written characters is how they’re bound by trauma. Of course, other houses also have characters who have sad or traumatic backstories, but the Blue Lions is the only one that it applies to the entire house. And it’s always so deeply rooted into the way that these characters act and why they do the things that they do.

Dimitri-Sole survivor of the Tragedy of Duscur. Lost his parents and dear friend. And then developed a severe case of PTSD to the point where he was haunted by illusionary ghosts of his loved ones to get revenge. And constantly fighting against himself to keep his darker tendencies reigned in.

Felix-Lost his older brother in the tragedy. And then growing to hate chivalry and lashing out against it in every way possible, and having to look at chivalrous concepts in the most cynical way to cope with Glenn’s death. Since Glenn himself highly valued chivalry.

Ingrid-Lost her fiancée (and close friend, feel like people forget about this aspect too much tbh) in the tragedy. And since she didn’t see his death and idolized Glenn so much had to force herself to believe that he died in an ideal way and wishing to replicate it herself.

Sylvain-Was already being tormented by his brother on multiple occasions and then lost a close friend and had to watch his other best friends struggle with their grief and trauma to the point of developing self-destructive tendencies. A behavior which he was most likely already exhibiting himself at that point.

Dedue-Lost his parents and sister. Had his race genocided. Has an extreme lack of self-worth due to the prejudice of his people. And accepts all of the hatred thrown at him in spite of him and most of Duscur being innocent because some Duscur people were involved.

Annette-Was abandoned by her father (due to the tragedy) and worked herself to the bone tirelessly for years in pursuit of finding him. To the point where it reaches extremely unhealthy levels. And she has to actively try to take it easy. Because she’s just become so accustomed to it.

Ashe-Lost his birth parents and had to turn to thievery to keep his younger siblings fed. His adoptive older brother was executed for conspiring in the tragedy. And due to Lonato adopting and saving him, Ashe develops an extremely idealistic perspective where he wants to help everyone and believe in the best in everyone, despite how things might seem.

Mercedes-Her father was a terrible person (don’t really want to get into that cause trigger warning stuff). And she and her mother had to escape leaving her little brother behind. Said little brother became a deranged serial killer who was beyond saving. And she has an extremely caring and motherly personality to all of her fellow Lions, probably due to the fact that she wasn’t able to save her brother, which she definitely regrets a lot.

They’re all such extremely broken, traumatized, and flawed individuals. But that’s exactly what makes them so interesting. These characters who’ve already been put through the ringer before the start of the story. And then are challenged even more during the story itself. It’s all the more satisfying when you see them push through together, overcome their flaws, and then end up victorious. The more adversity a character has, the more sweeter it is when they’re finally able to achieve their goals at the end. And that’s why, the Blue Lions are such an interesting and well-rounded house of fantastic characters.

Heck, same thing goes for Rodrigue, Gilbert, and Catherine. But I feel like this post is already too long as it is XD.

TL;DR: The Blue Lions and even Faerghus characters in general are extremely well-written.

Fuck it, I NEED to talk about a hyper specific headcanon I have for cpunz.

So the sort of precontext for this is that I have this idea for Punz being something called a False Selkie, a concept of mine but to put it simply they're like selkies but substantially more fucked up and predatory (think seal + the loch ness monster). They are like what kelpies are to horses kinda - fucked up predator edition ya know.

Punz specifically is a False Selkie with traits from a Leopard Seal, they may also be the local lake/water cryptid of the dsmp but that's for another post. Either way, I have the idea that they can make vocalizations like a leopard seal - kinda like in this video where people are being sooo fuckin stupid but it's the only thing I've found where you can really here that clunking noise they make. This sound in general for leopard seals (and by extension Punz) basically means "Fuck off", it's a threat, a warning to back up or else learn why they're an apex predator under most circumstances. It is also used to drive off rivals and probably equivalents to "Fuck off, I'm bigger and this (territory or whatever) is mine".

Punz does of course have very good control over his emotions and reactions to things, years of training to be able to suppress most things in favor of their job. But they've struggled with being able to stop making that threat sound in the later days of the SMP once the plan is in place, usually no one is ever close enough to here that subtle clunk, clunk, clunk that wells in the back of their throat now and again but it's there. It's a warning, a threat and the only tell they have to show that they are feigning politeness with the idiots of the server and no one ever really hears it. Even if they did who's to say it was coming from Punz? As far as everyone knew, Punz was simply a little off, they had no idea what he was so it would probably be brushed off.

Dream had heard it once or twice before the plan went into effect, but he eventually heard it properly the day he explained what happened in the prison- he had known of Punz's true nature but the sounds caught him off guard, Punz showed little emotion, they were a person of action most days but now they stood before him, slightly hunched over a table and making that deep clicking that almost echoed in the room. A threat but also a promise, a promise to set things right, to break even at the very least - after all the diet of a leopard seal includes flightless birds and well, they sure as hell hadn't ever seen Quackity fly.

Additionally they would no doubt use this sound as a challenge, Punz and Sapnap are more than prone to bumping heads- though their fights never got very far in the original days of the SMP, and even then it was mostly snide comments from Punz that were jabs to purposely get under the blazeborne's skin. But eventually the two cross paths later on in the days of the SMP - perhaps a situation where Sapnap feels the need to be a hero or simply a time where things go differently and Punz has to be between Sapnap and Dream. Either way their jabs, their cold comments purposely made to try and get Sapnap to make the first move are accented with that deep clicking except this time it's practically a threat phrased as an invitation. "Do it, I dare you, give me a reason."

There's one more time where the sound is heard, the first time it's heard in fact. In the dark of a hidden bunker, deafened by screams as those of L'manberg were betrayed. Wilbur is the one to hear it. In fact he heard it in the walls behind him before the button was even pressed. An ominous series of deep clicking sounds that were not human is what also befell the president's ears when he lost his first life.

(this string of thoughts also works with them being a normal selkie too tbh)

what made you pick up the muse you have ? : my friend typecasted my muse type when the victims concept art was announced. just immediately pointed out the horror jock like yep. that'll be the one u like. and then i played the tcsm beta back in may me and rae started wildly theorycrafting.... and well my demons have been winning since. i love a jock who is kind of fail but trying his best like you got me there.

is there anything you really enjoy writing ? : i'm a creep i'm a weirdo i love exploring horror and the many themes that can coexist in it. ig i like to kind of examine trauma and the healing process through the lens of the slasher genre, as well as where horror and love coincide as themes. i think there is underrepresentation in just....... letting slasher final kids have some kind of healing arc, or letting their story continue in general? seeing them before and after the things that happen to them? and i can't always do it but i do also like to kind of dive down into slasher horror and light gore and just practicing writing dynamic action scenes and what a character's thought process is like during those kinds of moments. i love an opportunity to be mean to my blorbo

is there anything you don't like to write ? : probably just anything needlessly like... melodramatic between characters? i have no interest in plots like genuine jealousy and love triangles and interpersonal shit like that, mostly because i write horror and there are so many more interesting things to focus on imo? and because not enough slasher content casts seem like they actually care about each other lmaooo. is this a callout post about gun.'s take on the friend group? perhaps.

how do you come up with your headcanons ? : dude i just receive the prophecies and act like im on twitter tossing my every stupid thought into the void.

do you write in silence or listen to music ? : tbh i usually write either in silence or in a deranged third way (writing between games of overwatch) my adhd sometimes demands that i am doing several things at the same time and sometimes i can sit down at the coffee shop put on some instrumentals and just slam some replies in

and i just wanna talk about how hueningkai can fit a deranged obsessive yandere man. i thought of that when i first watch to do ep 125-126, where they played hide and seek. he was laughing manically while chasing the members it gives me chills tbh. i can just imagine him laughing like that while chasing you when you tried to escsape him. he also has the smile and gaze that fits the concept in my opinion

when i think of yandere kai I think of Hate concept thursdays child kai. just the way he looks angry and possessive screams murder and i love it sm.

well. she is in the castle currently! she has been waiting for four years (i give you a deranged smile)

-but she has been stasis for around 100 years, or at least not completely conscious. she has a very poor concept of time/self in there which helps her from going completely bonkers. it's kind of like being in a submarine. a stressful work environment 💔

-originally i planned for her to be physically 17 when gaffen frees her, however i scrapped it because i thought it was weird. she's physically and mentally around 20-21. how does this work? idk. Magic.

-she can be intentionally bratty and passive aggressive but mostly she just doesn't realize when shes causing harm. it is a genuine fear of hers that people cannot be honest around her because of her social standing

-DESPITE THIS! she does still refer to herself as a princess post-calamity I think. she's just kind of. adjusting. and the first ppl she meets besides gaffen are the sheikah who absolutely refer to her as a princess. she considers it her duty to reestablish hyrule as it used to be because that's what she's been taught is right, but she doesn't really want to. part of her arc is going to be exploring that. -she's really embarrassed by the "antennae" she has on the sides of her hair and her teeth.

-despite her love of learning she often hated her tutors. she's got a if it sucks hit da bricks mindset tbh. thankfully she liked her last tutor a lot! he was a sheikah named shira longan and he uh! had magic that allowed him to see through a little metal eye he had as a hair accessory. eye on the back of his head :] they got along well

-widget is stealthy and difficult to track! good at hiding too. it is genuinely impressive that gaffen manages to find her.

imo the more interesting tim&jason dynamic /is/ the "they're only like 2 years apart" one (esp wrt "jason was tim's robin"? seems (to me) to have more potential if it's like "this kid who is my age is doing cool shit, I want to do cool shit like them, because they're my age and that hits close to home") personally am genuinely unsure why "tim is a poor little meow meow" seems to be more popular despite how it fucks both their characterizations lol

i will answer to both of you here, as it's related to the same post!

just in case i want to say that there's plenty of aspects of tim's storyline that have lots of potential. and there certainly could be an interesting one involving jason too. alas.

i think in general fanon tim is just a poor little meow meow. it's really ironic how when he was introduced, the writers wanted to make him more "likable" than jay, and they didn't want batman to play a full-time dad, so in place of jay's insecurity and need for parental love tim gets two living parents and is, for the most part, self-assured. there's some canon progression which disturbs this status quo of course, but it's fanon that turned his storyline into one about neglect.

so apparently all writers should have done to make the new robin a fan favourite was keeping jason's struggles and just making tim wealthy. real "what's cool when you're rich but trash when you're poor?" moment. having attachment issues, apparently.

and don't get me wrong, there is place for meta about tim's parents being neglectful, even if the creators originally wanted to achieve the opposite. but i find the extent to which fanon pushes this idea and makes it his sole source of personality a bit astonishing, especially that canon tim, for the most part, doesn't share any of these issues. and personally, his initial motivations that stem from his fascination with vigilantism seem much more appealing to me.

as you said: "this kid who is my age is doing cool shit, I want to do cool shit like them, because they're my age and that hits close to home." maybe it's a bit simplified, but tim being just a child who gets himself into something much bigger than himself without really realising the consequences – and essentially both traumatising himself as a result (while also finding family, one does not exclude another) is a pretty fascinating concept.

and like. canon tim is plenty weird about jason, okay. so i think their confrontation at some point would be interesting. and probably awkward.

btw we don't actually get to see jason and tim's first interactions after jay's resurrection. i said it before, but for christ's sake, the teen titans tower incident is no longer canon, and for a good reason, especially that in that era jason is portrayed as having a psychotic break and tim hates his guts and calls him deranged?

how do you derive an enemy to caretaker trope from this is beyond me tbh. it sounds good in theory, right, because it refers to jay's inherent kindness, but you do have to make them "enemies" in the first place, or at least jason the aggressor – which you need to follow the ableist storyline for (i really doubt jason would actually care about tim much if he was more stable, and he definitely wouldn't want to hurt him), and all i can ask is: why. find something new.

i don't know, if there's any actually interesting tim & jason fanfics that don't follow these cliches you should let me know, because the majority of the tag definitely isn't for me.

im writing a full smpronpa review because honestly that fic kinda changed my brain chemistry. this will be bullet point format as i am lazy

okay, so disclaimer- i havent seen smplive so i cant talk about those streamers characterizations. HOWEVER, i had a 3 year long derange danganronpa phase and have been abnormal about technoblade since 2017 so i do consider myself a bit of an expert on those aspects. oh also im taking the poke route and replacing that guy with yahi 👍

- gettin the techno things outta the way. first off, really likes his characterization and how it didnt fall into the trap of “overly bloodthirsty and unemotional” technoblade while still keeping his hitman status from tekkitlive i believe? and his deadpan demeaner. A+

- on the negative side, i will never get forgive the author for missing out his speech quirks like dropping the “g” at the end of words or constant use of “bruh”. additionally, plotwise, i feel like technoblade as the hitman sent after schlatt and co was disregarded a bit too quickly? and also came off as weird considering no one was meant to have any memories?? like why did schlatt and co and techno remember that part??? idk that just confused me but its danganronpa so whatevs

- the talents. they didnt.. feel like they had much of a purpose? like they didnt feel like they added much to the characterization, but that does add something interesting to the fact that the talents were a fake concept all along so i will not say if this was good or bad and will leave it up to you

- speaking of, was there a reason we never found out ty or travis’ talents? like they died and we just never found out what they were or why we didnt know. like. that confused me

- on the OTHER hand. the fake talents imply that yahi made HIMSELF the ultimate comedian which is objectively hilarious. big obama giving obama a medal energy

- poke. girl they did so little with him that i REGULARLY forgot he was there. bro just do SOMETHING with him. however, this is also a classic danganronpa experience so i will accept it

- the third trial kinda went crazy. i liked the twist on two victims to instead be two killers. genuinely an interesting version of the third chapter, and ryan was like.. a weirdly compelling character, especially after that trial

- half of the end twists were just straight ridiculous. im not.. really a fan of the “it was joko actually it was yahi actually it was cooper” thing, but its very sdr2 core so tbh thats fair. on the other hand, what in the world exactly happened to joko????? like he was at the final trial for like a Minute but he was dead beforehand in the flashbacks???? was he a robot????????? im so confused

- also, what was the purpose of charlie fakin his death? once again, very danganronpa of them but fundamentally kinda weird and unnecessary. i understand the in universe explanation but like.. out of universe why was that decision made?

- i would like the give the author massive kudos for the actual murders and trials. as someone who has participated in and even RAN danganronpa fangame rps, that shits HARD. it was pretty well done! not perfect, and some parts were hard to follow but i have ABSOLUTELY seen worse

- i also started really liking angel as a character. i liked the choice to have her actually be a detective lying about her “ultimate” and she felt very genuine and interesting. schlatt also came across as a pretty interesting antagonist with canon-typical confusing motives

- also whatever the fuck joko and cooper had going was gay as HELL. like idk what was up but it was deeply homosexual

- i also liked the way the ending had a sort of commentary on fan culture and the increasing escalation of entertainment for the cruel enjoyment of the masses. very yugioh arc v z-arc core for the like two people who get that reference. im not entirely sure on how WELL it was executed especially within the wider context, but i still found it interesting

YES i know exactly which fic ur talking about. YES I AM DERANGED OVER IT. i always think about how dante doesn't have facial features or the ability to talk to most people outside of the sinners. how the most basic forms of human expression n communication is ripped away from them in the form of a head prosthetic. it's why it makes sense to me that dante is portrayed as so cartoony in canon BECAUSE they would be extremely expressive, especially with their hands - gestures upon gestures n flailing n pointing n all. in a verdante scenario i can picture them being into hand holding n just doing stuff bc that's all they can do.

because body language is the only thing they have access to. BECAUSE body language is the only thing they can offer as comfort to the people they care about.

the touch starvation goes both ways i think - vergilius n his self-isolating ass n dante's tendency to keep themselves covered up from neck to toe (maybe it's a way to feel secure n protected after losing their memory methinks). tbh i do see dante being more affectionate in public than verg (although it is still very little due to professionalism n out of respect for verg's privacy). in an established verdante scenario dante would probably like to stand close to verg n sometimes bump shoulders or maybe curl an arm around verg's waist or a hand on his lower back if they're feeling bold.

ANYWAYS i need to beam u the imagery of vergilius pressing a soft kiss onto their knuckles or pulse or palm bc it lives rent free in my head. it's chaste n quick n dry but it's one form of how he can express affection other than simple hand holding n i think dante would appreciate it. or whenever they hold hands verg would probably hook a finger or thumb beneath their gloves just for the simplicity of skinship. it could lead to steamy times but ultimately he's just content to feel dante's pulse n warmth against his own. maybe they do it at night when it's just the two of them (don't get me started on them cuddling in bed). crying rn

Better Late Than Never Same as above, but Jacob deserves a nap and the family he always wanted. This man absolutely had aspirations of breaking the cycle and the way he continues to perpetuate it via the trials is something that I just cannot shake.

Quality Over Quantity This one was just unfettered filth. My thought process was "Jacob would probably have some weird breeding shit going on with the Chosen right???? He treats people like cattle there's no way this is where he draws the line." Low key could gone either way because I don't actually recall any female chosen in game so like..... either few female chosen being hunted by a gaggle of dudes or like....a hoard of women hand picked and sequestered away solely for- ANYWAY I'M A GODLESS WHORE

What You Want** This is a lesson in why I don't write multi-parters other than one shots and the occasional sequel (See: Late Bloomer). It took 3 (!!!!) years to write this shit lmfao Scratches the same itches as Late Bloomer but also has Jacob-esque mind fuckery directed @ the Deputy CC coded tbh, and just all around a darker vibe which I love.

i dunno how to articulate this without sounding like a deranged person (and trying not to include every possible caveat/inb4/aside for the sake of some semblence of brevity) but tbh i really hate the current concept of "sex positivity"—frankly i think it reeks of liberal feminism and at this point i consider the term to be a massive red flag.

because it's like... the premise started as "people usually have sex because it is an enjoyable experience, so it's shitty to shame & demonize people, especially women, for having or wanting 'too much' sex or the 'wrong kind' of sex" which—yeah! obviously!

but i feel like it very quickly transitioned into "ALL sex is ALWAYS GOOD and VALID!!!! let's ignore the ways in which women are often (directly & indirectly) coerced into negative sexual situations through an intersection of rape culture, compulsory heterosexuality, and unwanted sexualization starting from a young age; let's ignore the fact that the concept of 'slut-shaming' even exists in the first place because of the unspoken underlying assumption that sex exists for men's gratification at the expense (or at least inconvenience) of women, and not as something that a woman could actively want or enjoy for her own sake (and the fact that that assumption only exists because that's how many men view & treat the women they sleep with); if you acknowledge any of those things you're a regressive puritanical prude!"

that's not even really getting into how men have historically taken advantage of any sort of sexual liberation movement to pressure women into sleeping with them under the guise of progressivism, again enacting it as a one-sided conquest and not something mutually enjoyable, because god forbid they recognize or respect the humanity & desires of women... nor the ways mainstream media, cultural messaging, and even educational resources tend to reinforce these harmful ideas... NOR the ways this intersects with "choice feminism" and the idea that succumbing to patriarchal demands is ~always valid~ and not something that should ever be interrogated...

basically instead of acknowledging or contending with any of the larger social & cultural issues at hand (and how they interact across various axes of oppression) people would once again rather frame everything through the lens of individual choices and behaviors. i don't know if it's out of pure ignorance or deliberate refusal, but it sucks being made to feel like i'm the weird one for thinking there's a problem. like... am i crazy? am i really the only person who thinks about this kind of stuff?
