HARRIET HOOK

• I don't think you guys understand how much I love Harriet. She's one of my most favorite Descendants characters to write about.

• Based on the few things we know about her from the books, she already seems awesome. Sometimes, I have to remind myself that my headcanons are not canon lol but I have many about her.

• What bothers me the most about Harriet is not her fault at all. I get so mad that they have created Harriet, Harry and CJ, and altright refuse to have them coexist. I would love to see all three Hook siblings together, but noooo, Disney hates fun.

• I can't remember if they mention her having her own crew, but to me, she does and it's one of the most respected gangs on the Isle. No one dares messing with Captain Harriet.

• She dances with Anthony Tremaine in the books and they're a couple. I'm not sorry, I make the rules and they are canon to me.

• To be honest, I could make a whole list of my headcanons about Harriet, I'm just not doing it now because there's more characters to talk about.

LI SHANG JR

• I wish we had seen more of him, maybe have him and Lonnie interact - then again, I don't think it would be possible for them to include all the characters I want in the movies.

• Again, I hate his name, just to make it clear. Also, just made some headcanons about him and Lonnie here.

• It would be nice to have him interacting with Jay and Carlos in D1 after they joined the Tourney team, maybe giving them pep talks instead of the coach and help them feel like they belong there.

HERKIE

• If Disney doesn't stop giving Descendants characters such terrible names, I swear-

• Again, since he's part of the Tourney team, it would be cool to see the boys interacting with him. Since Herkie's really strong, he could show Jay strenght doesn't have to equal agression.

• I also have a few headcanons about him that I'd be willing to share someday. Herkie's also a minor character in my fic about Audrey.

AZIZ

• My poor boy, getting cut from the first movie...

• Seriously, I would've loved to see him! They cut his character and didn't even have him appear in the other movies or Wicked World.

• He was also supposed to be in the Tourney team, why does Disney hate them lol So yeah, it would've been really nice to see all of these boys hanging out. Since Mal mentions Jay getting "victory pizza with the team", I wish we had gotten to see that.

• Despite D1 being the movie that I think was able to work the Core Four individually the best, I still think we could've seen a bit more of how the boys were doing in Auradon.

CLAUDINE FROLLO

• This character... Oh, I adore her. Like I said on my other post, I don't remember much from the books, but I know she was part of the Anti-Heroes Club.

• I always say I wish Descendants could be darker, and Claudine is one of the main reasons why. The daughter of Claude Frollo? The girl is a walking bundle of trauma. There are some og characters that I can see growing to be good parents, but Frollo? No, call child services.

• I don't really like that Claudine is mentioned to be the person ringing the bell at Dragon Hall in the books, mainly because I don't think Frollo would raise her to be a copy of Quasimodo.

• Still, I like that she's part of the Anti-Heroes Club, and I imagine her as very strong girl who would be extremely determine not to become like her father.

Your brutally honest thoughts on Lonnie (and her family) in the Descendants franchise?

My brutally honest thoughts are that she’s a plot device turned love interest who can be summed up as “badass girlboss swordgirl”. And Mulan reference. I like Lonnie, but she doesn’t really have a character arc for me to talk about nor is she a big enough character to really need one. She’s the start of Mal’s little hair business in the first movie and inspires Jane to rip her dress, which is a joke for exactly one scene. It’s a show of Jane doing things she normally wouldn’t to fit in. She’s copying others’ behavior, which leads to her copying Audrey’s mean streak later on, which gets the hair reversed, which makes her grab the wand. The only thing Lonnie really does in the first movie is come into the kitchen and cry over the idea that villains don’t love their kids (because that “in their own way” is bullshit and all five of them know it). Second movie we have a sexism plot and Lonnie is a badass swordsman, and implied romance between Jay and Lonnie because it looks like they went to the cotillion together, but nothing’s for sure. She’s an actual character now, but her story is just a smaller-scale version of her mom’s. Without any of the stakes, I guess, but it’s high school. They’re both denied a chance to fight (in a war for someone who will absolutely die vs in high school fencing) and they get in anyways by hiding that they’re a girl. Lonnie wears a mask and beats people at fencing before revealing it’s her, Mulan does a full-on undercover mission. I would’ve liked it more if they gave Lonnie a parallel to another fairy tail, since mini-Mulan feels a little uninspired. Switching it up would be fun, like Evie and Dough having a role reversal sleeping beauty when their parents are from SW&7D.

Li’l Shang… idk how to feel about the name I can’t not see this as a bad rapper name. It reminds me of lil’ kleine, specifically one song of his that makes me cringe. Why did he have to go with that nickname instead of literally anything else? Because his actual name is Li Shang Jr. which is very inspired and creative, Disney :/. At least Gaston has his solar system sized ego as an excuse, and the fact that he’s from France. Every Western European country I know of picks whatever name they think sounds the best (I don’t know enough about Eastern European naming conventions to say anything definitively). Mulan and Li Shang are Chinese, though. From what I know Chinese spend a lot of time and care on picking a name, I doubt they’d just tack Jr on it and call it a day. Now that I’m done with the interesting stuff… Li’l Shang accidentally sets up a training date between his little sister and Jay in the novel, and that’s the only significant thing he does. He’s there to help Jay with R.O.A.R as assistant coach and I guess to throw in that joke about asians always being better at stuff since he’s gonna go back to Northern Wei to launch his hip hop career and rule at the same time.

So excluding chip (because he doesn't have a choice) all try to avoid Auradon and Auradon city in particular

So attending Auradon Prep was stressful for Shang Jr

He as I said before likes to cook but not very good at it but he is a bit better at baking

He likes to bake the chocolate chip cookies his mom makes when he is not home. It makes him feel closer to her

Do you have any headcanons about Shang Jr? Even if it's one or two?

The reason he wants to be a DJ is tied back to when he was a kid on his first trip to San Fransokyo. Hiro Hamada took his family out to eat and he saw this awesome performance and has been obsessed ever since.

He is very protective of Lonnie, and even though she tried with their parents a lot, he still felt that he needed to help her with her sword and martial arts training as well.

Do NOT let him be alone with Mushu. Mulan and Shang made that mistake once. It is a forbidden topic.

Because of his parents "fairytale status" they have to meet with a lot of the kings and queens of Auradon. When he turned eight his parents started to drag him along, even though that meant he'd either be sitting in the meeting board or sitting in a room near the meeting room with princes and princesses. And he's older than most of them. This led to him having a sort of friendship Rapunzel and Anna's eldest son's.

While they don't make an effort to really hang out outside of meeting times, the three boys are chaos when their together. Elsa's eldest daughter and Rapunzel's eldest daughter are the ones that have to keep them in line, and both agree that its practically a full-time job.

When he was seventeen he got a dragon tattoo on his arm. His mother was ticked off but his father was impressed by it. He took Lonnie to get a matching one on her eighteenth birthday, and their parents surprised them by getting their own as well.

He would practice swordfighting with Ben when Ben started Auradon Prep, at the request of King Beast.

A lot of people assumed that he likes action movies, but he actually prefers cheesy rom-coms and comedies because they aren't as intense.

Is there any Descendants kids names you want to change if you were to work with Descendants?

Li Shang Jr. hands down. In my post about Lonnie and Shang I explained my reasoning for it but the short version is that it’s lazy. Naming in China is more than just something sounding pretty. Names have meanings and are picked carefully, because as I understand it a common belief is that a good name brings good luck and a bad name brings bad luck. Mulan and Li Shang wouldn’t cheap out by tacking on a Jr for their son. And again, it’s just so lazy! There are so many beautiful Chinese names they could have picked and they couldn’t be bothered?? If it was really that big of an issue… they gave Lonnie a western name, so why not just give the poor boy his own name too?!?! I don’t get it and it frustrates me to no end. I hate it.

Same for Bashful Jr. and Sleepy Jr. I get he’s a minor character but there are so many names starting with a B like- for all I care just consult a random naming generator at least it’ll feel like you put in some effort. At least with Gaston’s kids Gaston Jr. and Gaston the Third it makes sense. Their names are perfect because Gaston is a self-obsessed jerk, of course he’d name his children after himself.

Red, from the rise of Red, because wtf kind of name is that? Her mother is the Red Queen, this just feels kinda lazy again. Ruby would have been better, even though I know there’s a daughter of Rapunzel already called that. It would be better and we already have two Harries so clearly double naming isn’t a problem. Ruby’s a shade of red, and it sounds like an actual name at least! But while we’re on the topic of double names…

Harry Hook or Harry Badun, because it’s a little confusing to have two Harry’s in a story when there doesn’t need to be (I say, while not complaining about the many Michaels in Percy Jackson). For real though there aren’t that many named characters in Descendants so why not just pick another H name?

Jokingly, I would change Mal’s name because I’m tired of reading about the trope that her full name is Malificent. Listen people, if the good ol’ mistress of evil really wanted to be a bitch, this is not what she’d do. This implies Mal could become good enough. If anything, she’d just call her Mal as a way of saying she’ll never be at her mother’s level in any way. No matter how hard she tries, she’ll always be the lesser version. The reduction. She cannot earn her full name, because she’ll never be as powerful/evil as her mother. It’s impossible.

Celia, because she breaks the naming conventions of this universe and it bothers me. I really like the name Celia, so if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s Facilier I’d change Freddie’s name to one starting with a C. But alas :/

Jane, for the same reason. Fairy Godmother means either an F or a G, because those are the initials for Fairy Godmother. Plenty of options to pick from, so while I get the nod to her being a Plain Jane it just doesn’t work for me.

Dude the dog, because I just don’t like it.

Maybe Herkie? It kinda sounds like a nickname for Hercules. Hiero might fit, because it means “priest” or “sacred” and both of his parents are gods. But I can live with Herkie because it’s kind of cute and I can accept it.

Exact same story for Morgie. It sounds like a nickname, but it’s lowkey cute so eh fine.

In strictly universe-consistency terms, I’f have to say Hermie Bing. However, since she was named after the Ringmaster’s voice actor Herman Bing I’ll let it slide.

Either Jordan or Lonnie had a one sided crush on the other at around the age of 12

Speaking of Shang, he had his first tattoo secretly at the age of 15.

It was a dolphin tattoo because he was obsessed with the sea growing up

He shared a drom with Andrew Bjorgman (Anna and kristof's son)

He also told everything about Auradon Prep to Lonnie so she wouldn't have much hard time there because he was always underestimated by some royal kids

Well, so was Lonnie. Maybe more than Shang jr because at least the older was a man and it wasn't 'wrong' for him to fight

Lonnie however was ignored by many people

Because she was a girl and she should be 'graceful' and 'quiet' and 'ladylike'

And she shouldnt fight.

After couple of month Ben being the king hearted guy befriended him and that went on

Lonnie also has couple tattoos

Which gave her bonus points befriending the vk's

Mal doesn't like to get into a physical fight in Auradon not because she is incapable but she likes the others to underestimate her

The only person she fenced in Auradon was lonnie (before d2)

It was in the middle of the night when they bumped into each other and had ice cream in the kitchens

They were chatting then fighting came up which made mal offer to fence with her

Lonnie obviously accepted

That's why when they were rescuing Ben in d2, mal was a bit relieved Lonnie was there

Back to the family, both Shang Jr and Lonnie got their sass from their great grandmother, grandma Fa

What do you think of this au?

I had this weird but cute au where Mulan and Shang had a new baby, a girl and her name was Stephanie (while Lonnie and Jr are teens). 3 months after her birth, Lonnie and Lil basically raised her while their parents where very busy with work, which caused a little strain on the older siblings but despite that Lonnie and Lil absolutely loved Stephanie. She was just adorable. Also, she looked like her mother, while Jr and Lonnie looked like their dad(they look like twins, Lonnie and Lil that is.)

With Lonnie and Jr being so much older than her, it makes sense that they'd have such a big part in raising her. They'd be a huge help to their parents.

At what point in the Descendants timeline is she born? Pre-first movie, post-first movie, etc?

They take her everywhere! Their parents need them to babysit but they're busy so the compromise is taking Stephanie with them. Lonnie brings her along to tourney practice. She just sits on the side giggling.

Once she gets a bit older, both of her older siblings try teaching her their respective hobbies. Lonnie with tourney and swordfighting and stuff - actually, Mulan teaches her swordfighting too - and Jr with, what was it again, that R.O.A.R. thing?

Evie makes tiny little cute outfits for her.

Lonnie and Jr. would do literally anything for her. Like, if there was an attack or something, like if Stephanie would have been there by Cotillion, their priority is "Get Stephanie out first and worry about everything else later." Even though Lonnie would defend her friends and is basically Ben's unofficial bodyguard. Stephanie comes first.

Is this in the same AU with Shai? Because then wouldn't Shai and Stephanie be about the same age? That would be so cute!
