Although it didn't happen often, before she went by Aaliyah Rose, she turned a small handful of people into vampires, though none of them made it very far.

Your character would have been turned sometime between the early 1900s and the 1940s, likely around the time Aaliyah was using the name Alice Rosenthal.

Alice was prone to long bouts of languidness followed by bloodbaths, and your character was unfortunately caught up in all of that. Rather than let you die, though, she decided to turn you, be it for her own amusement or just a desperate desire for companionship; she never properly gave you an answer.

While traveling with Alice, you would have been taught indulgence. People are just pawns to be manipulated, you are just a pawn to be manipulated, but she humors you, and she teaches you, and she does her best to keep you both safe. Slaughter is meant to be contained in back alleys and deserted areas that can be cleaned quickly. Money is meant to be taken, but only from those with an excess that they won't miss for long. It's for the best if you leave no trace, but if you do, always have an excuse and a new identity at the ready.

You never learned much about Alice's past, only that she was older than the several decades that she claimed to be, and she was incredibly wary of hunters after they'd killed her own sire and her last prodigé years ago.

Whether it's over a spat or nothing at all, one day, you wake up to find Alice gone. There's no note, no trail to follow. You spent days wondering if something had happened to her or if she'd merely grown tired of you, but you never learned the truth. Instead, you kept going, wandering the world and enjoying your unlife and the teachings that Alice had given you.

Maybe your thoughts frequently fluttered to your sire, or maybe you hardly thought of her at all, but you remember feeling the night that she'd almost died in April of 2024. You thought she was dead, but the pain faded too fast, leaving you winded but not in agony. Perhaps you grew worried or curious or irate, but you remembered hearing about the last sanctuary for supernaturals, Lunar Cove. If something was powerful enough to nearly kill your rotten old sire, there might be something to the concept of safety in numbers, so you start heading your way to Rhode Island. Of course, there's very little to prepare you for running into your sire, going by a new name with a new disposition, much less having to deal with her as the advisor to the vampire clan you've been thinking about joining.

tw: medical condition, drug use As a kid, Val was precocious and wild. A middle child in a family of five, the young curly-haired child would get his older and younger sisters, Benna and Ruth, to tag along on all his hair-brained schemes. Many of them were ways of trying out his magic as it manifested in tiny ways, hoping to ignite. But Val took longer to ‘grow up’ than their sisters. Ruth was off to law school and Benna went into fashion and moved to the States. Val had just barely graduated high school and was convinced college wasn’t for him. Even so, living with his mother showed Val a strong woman working in journalism, and he started to wonder if that was his path as well. Finally seeking out college programs, Val decided to apply for residencies. Despite not having much experience, a professor at BU decided to take him in, finding their application intriguing. It was Val’s first time away from home for more than a few days and he made the most of it. The first few weeks were all partying and sleeping around, but Val started noticing an issue with their vision- it was getting harder to read the whiteboard, and he found himself trying on reading glasses, having issues with the reading homework. Even their own notes were suffering- and after a trip to an eye doctor, Val got some bad news. Their vision was failing and in the next year or so, they’d most likely be legally blind. With this knowledge, it re-started something inside them.  He wanted to do well in school, wanted to get the things done he’d always wanted. With a few helpful professors encouraging them, Val was writing creative stories he’d thought about way back when he was growing up in Battersea. Suddenly there was a manuscript, and just as suddenly, Val Dupont was a published author with a series of middlegrade fantasy novels. All the while, he was practicing the witchcraft he’d learned from his amazing mother- something just as important to him, like how anyone might commit themselves to a nightly prayer. While Val made trips back home many times and even lived with their mother for a time, ultimately he moved to Opulence. It’s here that they comfortably live now, their magic manifesting in wonderful ways with their concentration. However, Val loves a good drink and some good weed, and often falls to vices. They’re a passionate lover, a total flirt- an outgoing sweetheart, but possibly not the most loyal unless it’s decided, ultimately, on monogamy.

Val is completely blind- however, after settling in Opulence, they realized that when using their witch powers to settle into a form, they can create a shadowy dog that walks by their side. When this dog is manifesting, Val can see through the dog’s glowing eyes- but it takes a lot of energy and exhausts them if they do it for too long without resting.

BIOGRAPHY

Raised by his grandmother after the death of his parents at a young age, Noah was predicted to lead a simple, quiet life. Expected to help maintain the barriers around his town throughout the day, help his Coven whenever called upon, and then return to the family home to prepare the evening meal with his grandmother at night: the same thing day in and day out, an uncomplicated life. That is why it was such a shock when Noah announced that he would be joining the Sheriff’s department at 18, fresh out of high school. Noah had decided he wished to make a difference. Of course, maintaining the barriers was rewarding work, it permitted him to protect his fellow townsfolk from outside dangers, but what about the dangers coming from within?  

PRESENT

Noah worked diligently as a Deputy for 3 years before his rose-coloured glasses began to slip. Soon he began to notice the underhanded dealings of the then appointed Sheriff, the way that he would make reports of crimes disappear for certain members of the higher class, or how “new evidence” would suddenly appear to move the blame onto an individual that was sniffing around where The Council didn’t want them. Noah shortly became disillusioned to the brave, selfless police force concept he had been sold. Admiration and respect turned to disgust and contempt. With his new understanding of how the world truly worked in his beloved town – secrets traded for secrets, money traded for freedom, and lies being used as currency. Noah felt sick; how had this been allowed to stand for so long? How had he not noticed sooner? Did his fellow deputies know? Did they allow this deceit?

Unable to continue to work for such a poor excuse for lawfulness, Noah was ready to slam down his resignation and alert the masses of their failure of a justice system. However, then he found old reports containing information pertaining to a string of cold cases that no one seemed to have even tried to solve. Curious as to why these particular murders had been left to gather dust, Noah began to dig. Through his investigation, Noah found out about The Rebellion and his sense of justice was ignited anew. Here were people really working to make a difference, rallying against The Council and their lies, making moves to pull the wool from over the town’s people’s eyes. The Rebellion were able to convince Noah that he would be able to do more good from right under The Council’s nose by continuing his work in the Sheriff’s department. By keeping his head down and ears up, Noah would be able to gather valuable information for The Rebellion’s cause.

Noah was able to easily juggle his new role with The Rebellion, going unnoticed and unbothered for another year, before a change in Sheriff made his tightrope act a little harder. Vivienne was unlike the Sheriff that had been appointed before her. She actually cared for the people she was there to protect, went out of her way to make sure they felt listened to, and stayed in the office hours after her shift had ended to try and bring justice to those in need. Now Noah is having difficulty with balancing his loyalty to The Rebellion and his respect for his new Sheriff.

Vivienne Collins: Boss/’friend’ – With his friendly personality, Noah was more than happy to help Vivienne out when she began working at the Sheriff’s station, and quickly recognised his hard-working nature mirrored in the new hire. Well, this is what he told everyone when they ask about his friendship with the closed-off Were. However, Noah knew who Vivienne was before she even joined the force and knew that she would be a treasure-trove of information for his work with the Rebellion if he was able to get her to trust him. Despite excelling in his plan, Noah has started to question his loyalties. Being Vivienne’s unofficial right-hand has awarded him invaluable intel, but it has also made him privy to parts of Vivienne that most have never seen. For almost 10 years, Noah has listened to Vivienne’s troubles, been her sounding board when she had to make difficult decisions or been her sympathetic drinking buddy when things became too much. Noah has realised that there is a lot more to the Sheriff than he initially thought and believes that she has what it takes to make Brookhaven into the place its citizens deserve.
