Shout-out to the newly discovered systems, the ones just now figuring out their plurality and getting hit with all the hindsight and then some. It might all seem chaotic, overwhelming, or scary right now, but give it time and you'll figure it out. Just take a breath, don't push yourself to figure out everything right away, and trust in yourself and your system to find a balance sooner or later. Anyways this is how i personally see the ship. I didn't put in that much thought into it so it could change at any moment but yeah.

A few explanations for my HCs:

Maruki uses different kinds of pet names for zenkichi (ex: babe, love, etc) mostly just to fluster him at first, but eventually got so used to it until it just comes naturally. As for zenkichi, i've seen a few people use 'tanuki' as zenkichi's pet name for maruki, and i LOVE it. It's rly cute!! I think he mostly uses them if they're alone though.

Neither of them are afraid of bugs. Zenkichi doesn't care and maybe just inconvenienced by them, so he'll just squash them if they bother him. I imagine maruki as someone who's sorta fascinated by bugs, especially those weird but cool looking ones. He'll probably pet a tarantula if given the chance. He feels kinda bad whenever he has to kill a bug, so if possible he just scoops them with a tissue and puts them somewhere else so they don't bother him.

They both can drive, obviously, but since maruki does more of the cooking (way more lol), zenkichi does more of the driving.

Zenkichi doesn't dislike PDA, but he almost never initiates them in public. I don't think maruki likes those overly romantic PDAs either but he'll hold zenkichi's hand when they walk or maybe give a lil goodbye kiss on the cheek.

(Also we don't know zenkichi's canon height and their ages so i just kinda go with the vibes and how i see them)

It feels kinda weird to call this plural-adjacent, but those stories and posts about people whose cats accidentally message their friends and their friends just respond as if having a normal conversation just. Resonate with me somehow? It reminds me of how, after a switch, some people will go "oh okay you're a different headmate? Okay cool now what's your opinion on x" or whatever. Just keeping the conversation going regardless of who's actually typing behind that one account. This is really hard to articulate but I really enjoy seeing it; it makes me feel hope for wider plural acceptance to see people accept and even enjoy something so similar to our experiences

Honestly I feel like if Zenkichi found out about what happened to Ren in the interrogation room, he would probably go into dad mode and become quite protective of Ren when other officers and higher ups asks about his investigation into him. Because after all, I doubt the officers involved would let the fact that they beat and drugged a minor become a known fact, so Zenkichi would probably learn about it from the thieves or Ren himself.

Yeah, i have a feeling he doesn't know about that too.

They obviously wouldn't just tell him that when he first met them, so him saying all those things would feel really horrible for Ren. Zenkichi knows that he's got bad experiences with the police, but he most likely only knows about the false arrests. That in itself would be traumatizing.

I've been thinking that after the whole shitshow in kyoto, Ren might have a bit of a breakdown, considering just how close it was. And i imagine he would be a bit worried for zenkichi as well. When they do have a talk after that, he might tell him about the interrogation, and that he's worried it might have been bad for zenkichi too (classic ren, worrying about everyone else)

After he tells him about it, Zenkichi is fucking angry.

He just. he feels really damn protective of this kid now. At that point Zenkichi liked the PTs already, and basically adopted all of them. So he feels really strongly about the people who hurt this kid.

They tortured a minor, simple as that.

He then properly apologizes for the things he said back when he first met them. It was really out of line, even if he didn't know just how bad it was. He probably made a silent vow to never let anyone hurt these kids anymore.
