We already knew this 😁
And some glimmers of hope for the poor Devils caught by DFTD

The Tasmanian devil (Sarcophilus harrisii) needs no introduction. With bone-crushing jaws, haunting vocalizations, and a feisty disposition, this critter is Earth’s largest living marsupial carnivore. Weighing up to 30 pounds (13.6 kg), the Tasmanian devil is primarily a scavenger, chomping down on just about anything it can find—even if it’s rotten. Fun fact: Baby devils, which are about the size of a raisin at birth, are called imps.

After few days of working I decided to finally post my OCs-
Most information about them is already written here BUT I want to expand in what universe are they in;
Those are the four "main" Archangels in my universe, Micheal, Gabriel, Rapheal and Uriel. In this universe Heaven is just a very big office with many departments. " Which where they all work - with many other angels (other archangels, principalities and many other angelic ranks). As a whole I call it "Department for Things Divine" (DfTD for short). All angels basically work office jobs apart from principalities and Micheal who work in the army (but also work as the office security in meantime). All the events in it surround mostly what's happening in Bible but also many other texts (please don't take it too seriously) but told from Heavens perspective. There's also way more stuff that happens before the humanity started existing (I'll expand on that in the future). More in disclosure on what jobs they do in Heaven is written on the sheets. Beside working their jobs the main four decided to make a band called "The Arch Choirs" to have something more to do while they do have a whole eternity to live out.
I plan on either making comics or writing about them (most likely on Wattpad)! as for now I'll make a little bit of art of them and most other important characters.
Disclaimer: It's only INSPIRED by the series The Office and Good Omens (more on the The Office part) so please don't take it as GOmens ocs it's completely different universe.

CTVT and a weird niche theory I fell down the rabbit hole about - giant transforming retroviruses???
This is a story about how a single line on a wikipedia page sent me down a rabbit hole of finding one scientist's fringe theory that's juuuust plausible enough to make me question everything while almost certainly being absolute fucking bunk.
Some background
So, on parts of tumblr at least we all know about Canine Transmissible Venereal Tumour, aka The Immortal Cancer Dog. For those who don't know, it's a cancer dogs get, usually on their junk, that unlike most other cancers, isn't made up of their own cells. The cells are actually all descended from this one dog or wolf that lived like 11,000 years ago and are, arguably, all technically that one dog. A dog that became a single-celled infectious disease.
We have a wealth of genetic, histological and observational evidence for this. As in, we know it what population of canids it came from, we know it's got a weird chromosomal structure compared to normal dogs, we know it's genetically distinct from the hosts. We also know it's not the only one out there: There's a similar thing in Syrian hamsters and also the famous Tasmanian Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD).
Which made me pause when I was reading something on wikipedia about the devil facial tumour and saw a line mentioning that it was now known to be caused by a giant virus, much like CTVT. Which...huh? Oh I hadn't heard that afore.
Giant viruses
Ok so giant viruses are a thing and they're fuckin cool. They're a relatively recent discovery and comparatively huge, i.e. bigger than a bunch of bacteria. They were only discovered in 1981 and we still don't know an enormous amount about them but they're big and have large genomes and because of the way viruses are they're not easy to detect unless you're specifically looking for them.
They show up under microscopy (sometimes) and you can find them with genetic probes but you gotta already be looking for them to see that really. Current research though basically says they're more common than we think, just overlooked, and there's software out there that scans through genomic data to find sequences that might indicate their presence. There's even a possibility that one group might be involved in some cases of pneumonia in humans, though I need to stress that that's extremely not confirmed right now.
The "wait, what?" moment
So I mentioned that it was a line in the wiki article for DFTD that had me going "wait, really?", the line in question was this:
A study found evidence for an infectious agent resembling a giant virus that was capable of turning heathy cells into cancer cells. It was found to be a huge retrovirus with similar viruses being found in human and canine cancer cells.
Big If True.
So of course I check the source, which was a 2020 paper by Lusi et al. titled "A transforming giant virus discovered in Canine Transmissible Venereal Tumour: Stray dogs and Tasmanian devils opening the door to a preventive cancer vaccine".
Hang on, CTVT not DFTD? This is where some alarm bells went off because uh, as mentioned at the start, we know a shit ton about CTVT. Including the fact that it's all one specific dog. Which doesn't fit at all with the idea that it's caused by a virus transforming host cells into cancer cells.
So what fucking gives? What is this research that fully overturns decades of pretty conclusive research to the contrary?
Is this another case of Dr Barbara McClintock? Who spent decades being ridiculed by the scientific community over her wild theory that was, in fact, 100% right even if it seemed to fly in the fact of all prior evidence?
Or is this a Dr Donald I. Williamson situation wherein a scientist with appropriate training is just wildly but extremely vehemently wrong?
#science#genetics#cancer#canine transmissible venereal tumour#devil facial tumour disease#niche science#I'm breaking this up into several sections for readability#stay tuned for more#also feel free to ask any questions about stuff#I'll provide links to things as well but I know tumblr can bury posts with certain links in and idk if researchgate counts

a while back i read the wikipedia article for cheetahs and found out they have such little genetic diversity that any cheetah can accept a skin graft from any other cheetah which is incredibly fucked up i'm surprised they haven't developed and succumbed to something like CTVT or DFTD

The second outing for my own 'Different Strokes' show on Box Frequency FM where I was joined by a friend from my childhood neighbourhood... Simon Cox. Much like myself, Simon has DJ'ed for a lot of years and for the most part it's been a hobby. I imagine, like myself and probably most people who picked this hobby up, the joy came from discovering new music, and then sharing those discoveries with friends and family. When DJ-ing became more accessible, that gave a new way to engage with the music we found and loved, creating something new out of that and finding tracks that do (and do not) work well together in terms of flow and transitions. Where things slightly diverged for Simon and myself is that he also dabbled in the world of making edits and sharing those on Soundcloud, which opens things up for you more than simply posting mixes. For those interested in getting into this world, learning software to create your own edits is without doubt a very good way to go about helping you build a profile and stand out from the crowd.
Simon provided an excellent house mix, leaning towards the deeper side for the most part, with some shades take in nu-disco elements and some techier sounds too. For my own contribution in Part 2, I start things off quite aligned in terms of the house vibe and then go a little bit eclectic for the second half of my mix.

hi! i recently stumbled upon ur gem of a blog and i recognized attention as a fic id read before and really enjoyed, and then proceeded to make my way thru ur masterlist.
im usually dont read dark/yandere fics as much (mostly because i find them weird if theyre not written well + i enjoy casual fluff more) but omg u write them so well! lamb to the slaughter was a fever dream and divinity for the damned kept me so hooked! u have this wonderful way of creating a dark atmosphere that chills me but also keeps me coming for more. it's like i got reintroduced to the genre.
im not even gonna talk abt the smut because it made me go efjygdewtwftgw the whole while! but i need u to know how much i love ur endings to these dark fics! my jaw dropped when i finished divinity for the damned.
im just so happy i found ur blog! it reminded me of why i like reading fics so much, because of writers like u, who make them so much more than just a guilty pleasure! i want u to know how much i (and im sure a lot of other people too) appreciate the effort u put into ur art. (i haven't read all ur fics yet but im so excited to!) i think ur my favorite writer on here now 💗
(sorry for the ramble lol, i just needed u to know)
Haiii !! gem of a blog omg T__T you’re too sweet,,,
Ahhhhh omgomg that’s so amazing to hear ??!? this is like. one of the highest compliments in my opinion… i love when you guys give my works a chance, and even more so when you tell me that you enjoyed it ! i’ve always had a fascination with dark content like this, so when i began writing it on this blog, i was afraid that i wouldn’t have an audience,,, but imagine my surprise when i did !! those two are truly my favorites, im so happy that you also liked them!! and yeah… a fever dream is literally the perfect way to describe ltts akhagdalgdagh
Im giggling so bad rn… im so geeked. subverting expectations through the endings of my fics is always something i try to do, and dftd definitely has one of my favorite endings ! i loved reading everyone’s reactions, i have so much feedback to reply to…. T_T
im literally sending you all my love right now. this is just such a heartwarming thing to read, im so appreciative that you left this message and your thoughts on my fics !! if you do read any of my other fics, i hope you enjoy them !! and i hope to keep giving more stories that are worth such genuine and kind messages <333

Discovering Tasmania's Unique Wildlife: A Haven for Biodiversity
Tasmania, Australia’s island state, is a treasure trove of diverse and unique wildlife. Isolated from the mainland for thousands of years, Tasmania boasts a rich ecosystem filled with endemic species, fascinating habitats, and thriving biodiversity. This makes it a paradise for nature enthusiasts and Wildlife in Tasmania conservationists alike.
Endemic Wildlife
Tasmania is home to several species found nowhere else on Earth. The iconic Tasmanian devil stands out as the most famous. This small, carnivorous marsupial is known for its distinctive screech and powerful bite. Although its population has faced significant threats from Devil Facial Tumor Disease (DFTD), conservation efforts are ongoing to protect and rehabilitate this unique animal.
Another remarkable species is the Eastern quoll, a nocturnal marsupial with spotted fur. Once extinct on the Australian mainland, it thrives in Tasmania’s relatively predator-free environment. The Tasmanian pademelon, a small, wallaby-like marsupial, also calls the island home, adding to its list of endemic mammals.
Birdlife
Tasmania’s bird population is equally remarkable. The island hosts 12 endemic bird species, including the strikingly beautiful green rosella and the Forty-spotted pardalote, one of Australia’s rarest birds. Coastal areas provide sanctuary for seabirds like albatrosses and petrels, while wetlands support migratory shorebirds.
The endangered orange-bellied parrot, one of the world’s rarest parrot species, breeds exclusively in Tasmania’s remote southwest. Efforts to conserve this critically endangered species include habitat protection and breeding programs.
Marine and Aquatic Life
Tasmania’s waters are teeming with marine life. The southern coastline’s kelp forests serve as vital habitats for species such as seahorses, lobsters, and abalone. The Tasmanian coastline is also a prime spot for observing seals, dolphins, and migrating whales, including humpback and southern right whales.
Freshwater ecosystems, including rivers and lakes, are home to the unique Tasmanian giant freshwater crayfish, the world’s largest freshwater invertebrate. Trout fishing is also popular, attracting anglers from around the globe.
Threats to Wildlife
Despite its abundance, Tasmania’s wildlife faces challenges. Habitat destruction, invasive species, and climate change pose significant threats. Feral cats and foxes, introduced to the island, prey on native species, while deforestation reduces critical habitats for many animals.
Conservation programs and national parks play a crucial role in mitigating these threats. Over 40% of Tasmania’s land area is protected, providing a haven for wildlife and ensuring the preservation of ecosystems.
Ecotourism and Wildlife Experiences
Tasmania’s dedication to conservation makes it a top destination for ecotourism. Visitors can explore places like Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park and Freycinet National Park, offering opportunities to observe wildlife in their natural habitats. Guided tours and wildlife sanctuaries provide ethical encounters with species such as wombats, echidnas, and platypuses.
Conclusion
Tasmania’s wildlife is a testament to the island’s ecological richness and resilience. From endemic marsupials to rare birds and marine wonders, the diversity is both awe-inspiring and fragile. Conservation efforts and sustainable tourism are essential to preserving this natural heritage, ensuring future generations can marvel at Tasmania’s unique biodiversity.
