friend of my dad’s offered me a job that’s… really, really good. I’d be doubling my income if I accepted it basically. that’s a life changing amount of money.
but… I’m extremely not qualified for it. so I’d completely screw myself over if I’d accept it and get fired. this is really not the sort of decision I need to be weighing on my mind atm.
#Job in question is in cybersecurity#and computer science related things always been an intellectual weak point for me#it’s not that I can’t code but it doesn’t come as naturally to me as it does to many other people#for them it’s like speaking a second language. for me it’s like fumbling around with my French-English dictionary

The thing about programming is that there's a level on which it feels like total wizard shit, like you're grappling with concepts directly on an abstract plane, splitting them apart and restructuring them into more elegant and fundamental forms, limited only by your own comprehension which you can practically feel expanding as you synthesize constructs and destroy them and remake them
But it is also, simultaneously, one hundred percent pedantic bullshit all the way down.
#this is a hilariously grandiose post to make given that the code I wrote today is absolutely cludgy bullshit#just the most gratuitous overbuilt data structure misuse possible#at least in the process of writing through it all I think I've conceptuallized a better way#So i might jump to writing that version. Rather than even trying to debug this clusterfuck into working order.#The problem is that I think dictionaries are a really cool data structure and they're easy to conceptualize#But they really are not efficient. And especially not if you're trying to cross-reference more than one of them.#This was also the problem with the one assignment in my coding class where I lost points on an inelegant solution#The grader was like 'why did you make a dictionary of dictionaries. That's absurdly inefficient and wastes so much memory'#and I was like. Well you see I thought it was neat conceptually.

i don’t know what to do about Hermes
#i was misguided re: the syncretism/correspondence thing#as i suppose is only natural as a first impulse#anyway whatever. Oops All Tricksters.jpg#don’t fault me for speaking like a village idiot it’s 1am and the dictionary falls asleep at midnight#what i basically mean is. mercredi#i end up tongue tied when i try to phrase these things#i identified him with the wrong norse deity. or did i#all this does make me inclined towards Bullshit such as archetypalism and a soft polytheist view but i feel like that would be#disrespectful to the . entities involved#if i had any kind of working communication this would be far more straightforward as much as these things can be (so; still not a lot)#but i’m only a mystic twice annually in dreams#the rest of the time it’s fog. fog and morse code#i can’t just run away now

Guys (g/n), is it perfectly normal behaviour to buy a book on Colloquial Finnish because you have one on Colloquial Slovenian? Asking for a me.
#bojere-coded book-buying ftw#maintaining finnish-slovenian relations yesyes#I also bought another Slovenian dictionary and a children's book in Slovenian#which I'm sure will definitely make up for me taking my Slovenian books all the way to Australia and back and not opening them once yepyep

....every time I think I've spelled things right posting here I go back and immediately find typos. Five year old me cries a little every time
taking a little break from coding for now to sort out access to an account my mom set up a while back that apparently uses a username neither of us know and also get something to eat. Then back yo fighting with coding
#demo fight#Seriously I used to read the dictionary for fun ad a kid#I helped my older sister with her spelling tests#These typos are driving me insane#But oh well#At least they're good for a laugh#Told my mom learning coding was like dumping an English speaker who's never spoken another language somewhere like Korea#And telling them “alright now communicate”#But hey at least it's kinda fun figuring out what actually does work

Me, eyeing my mutuals: March yourself to me so that you may be a knife holder for my collection
Ok now we have a booping feature I propose to tumblr next ides of March we have a stabbing counter and the person with the most stabs gets crowned Caesar and the blog with the most stabbings gets crowned Brutus
#i like puns what can i say#i also like giving people confusion and headaches when i talk like that#i read really formal books and i liked how they were worded#it does make writing fics hard though#because characters who speak informally are suddenly speaking like above#and i ponder my life choices#about why i taught/raised myself to speak and write like that#ive been asked if i was british simply because of my syntax#no i am not british#i just read way to many dictionaries and encyclopedias as a kid#i got so bored at school id read the dictionary they gave us#tldr#i read a dictionary and encyclopedias as a kid and liked how they were worded#so i taught myself to speak like how they were written#and i write chatacters speaking formal when they speak informally because of it#no i dont cry when i realize how i was making them speak#its a code switch though because i had to be informal at my last job so now when im alone its formal time

i've been doing some unhinged rewatching since i wrote the izawa post up and honestly i think the showrunners were trying to imply yamauchi has something going on towards izawa.
look at this
#non-exhaustive compilation of times yamauchi thought his feelings towards izawa-san were normal#zettai reido#i'd like to write a post up sometime on the differences between coding and ''coding''#as in coding by the dictionary definition (requiring intent by the creator) and ''coding'' as a fannish term for accidental implication#jdrama loves coding and implicative language but i don't think a lot of RGG ''queer coding'' for example is coding#in that department i think RGGS are more likely to just flat out say it#but this here (less so in the stir fry bit) is definitely ''the showrunners wanted to imply this'' territory for me#probably in response to reception of scenes like the stir fry one#but i think i would need to do some more digging through twitter to find fan reactions to season 3#it becomes VERY overt in season 4 i think. kagami and yoshioka join the team and clock yamauchi immediately lol

handing in the ugliest code imaginable for this hw but what matters is I was being myself and I had fun

#coding is fun when it’s not like insane.#and when I don’t care about making it efficient#and then when I don’t understand why something is not working#inevitably because of either a) stupid typo or b) the most obscure fucking issue you could ever imagine#then it is the devils language#.txt#this hw could have been made a thousand times more concise if I used dictionaries or pandas HOWEVER. I’m allergic to dictionaries and pandas

Jason: *some obscure word nobodies ever heard of*
Other bats, narrowing their eyes while Tim flips through the dictionary
Tim:…
Tim: MOTHER FUCKER
batboys playing scrabble except there's a dictionary on-hand at all times solely for the purpose of fact-checking jason every time he tries to make up a word and gaslight the others into thinking it's real.
#oh but imagine the chaos when other languages get involved!#they now have a collection of dictionaries from numerous languages in the game room#Bruce oddly enough is the reason they had to include a dead Greek language#everyone thought it’d be Tim during dead/ weird languages#NOPE#it’s Bruce lmao#Tim has tried numerous times to use computer code though#batboys game night: a series#dick grayson#jason todd#tim drake#damian wayne#bruce wayne

after replaying a thousand times to confirm every word, cross referencing and asking my japanese friend specifications (because some words in japanese that are in the dictionary just. dont exist in english in some cases) THIS is i think the closest i could get to a near perfect dictionary, if you wanna try it and you find anything odd feel free to tell me since i'm using it along with the jpn dictionary as a base for the mod i'm making. i tried to explain any that were confusing but tbh playing this game on english is truly hard mode lol! And yes! Some words are redundant, it's a japanese translation issue, i tried to give them nuance?? Both honestly some words are so simmilar it may as well be the same in english..
'resident' is their specie, it's the fan given name so i used it
'Somebody' refers to a living being, a presence, it can be of any specie, it's broad
'Weak' is moreso untalented (to be bad at something)
'Frail(weak)' is more like vulnerable, physically weak/brittle, subject to damage
'Affliction' is because it can be disease or a curse, something that eats away at the health/body/mind, that needs to be 'cured'
'Incapacitate' is something like 'weaken', to make someone unable to hurt or move for example, or to lower their autonomy
'Like' can also be 'love', japanese doesn't really differenciate
'Different' is also 'wrong', they're the same word, it's confusing ik but essentially think of it as 'it's a different answer', sort of a more gentle version of 'you're wrong' . Again this is a jpn/english issue thing..
'I understand' and 'i will do it' are also rlly a japanese thing. Both sort of mean in a way 'i understand and am acknowledging what you said' ... but this is the closest me and my jpn friend could settle on.
'Hit' and 'knock' are the same. In japanese you say 'hit a door' more than 'knock a door'. That's why they're used interchangeably
'Distressed' is sort of like 'in trouble' , in need of help
'Feel' may also be 'think', i'm not quite sure on this one
'Room' and 'home' are also weirdly interchangeable
All the verbs are placed in neutral forms (ex: to search, to find, to go, to lead, to want, etc)
THERE IS A CANON DICTIONARY. It's in the game code and it's in jpn. This is just my personal approximation.
#homicipher dictionary#homicipher#homicipher masterkey#homicipher solved#i mean not rlly cuz unless its in jpn its never 100 accurate#but as close as i could get!!#dictionary guide
