What has been happening in the world of motorsports lately?
(it's very long again, so the roundup is under the cut)
Franco Colapinto becomes a new Williams driver for the last 9 races of the season, Logan Sargeant was dropped with immediate effect
apparently Franco found out on Monday only and he knows he won’t get the seat in 2025 because Carlos has already been confirmed
as a result, Oliver Goethe moves up from F3 to F2 immediately with MP Motorsport in Franco’s place and Noah Stromsted drove in his place in F3 for Campos in the last race of the season in Monza
also gentle (not so gentle) reminder that Roman Staněk was with Trident for the last race weekend in Monza and everything after is uncertain for him
the whole story is: he has two main sponsors, one of them is his own father who decided to stop supporting him, so he can no longer afford it, he got an offer for 2025 from DAMS, but they ask for € 4.7 mil
Roman got replaced by Christian Mansell for the rest of the season (he is not related to Nigel btw) in Trident
Zak O’Sullivan is in a similar situation, Monza was his last race because of funding issues despite being a part of Williams driving academy, he got replaced by Luke Browning from F3
And on top of that, there are rumours that Richard Vershoor is also unhappy in the team and looking for a way out
Also since Kevin the icon he is, got a race ban for Baku, Ollie will step up for him and Gabriele Mini from F3 will fill in for Ollie in Prema to create an all Italian lineup for Italian team
Leo Fornaroli is stepping up to F2 with Invicta Racing next year
Ferrari announced a new technical structure: Loic Serra (technical director chassis), Fabio Montecchi (chassis project engineering), Marco Adurno (vehicle performance), Diego Tondi (aero), Matteo Togninalli (track engineering) and Diego Ioverno (sporting director and head of chassis operations), Enrico Gualtieri (power unit division)
Safety car crashed in Parabolica during a high speed test before Monza but both driver and passenger are ok and there was also another safety car ready if they are needed during the race weekend (what is concerning is a message I saw somewhere about it potentially being a brake failure)
apparently drivers were not very happy with the changes in Monza track and discussed it in length in the WhatsApp group, their main issue was that these track modifications are not communicated with drivers beforehand
last week George did Pirelli testing for Mercedes and Liam Lawson for Red Bull and Ollie did a wet weather test for Ferrari
also did you know Ollie has a younger brother who will race in EURO F4 in Spielberg
Lenovo becomes F1’s global partner, so they will have naming rights for 2 races in 2025
Pato O’Ward will be driving in an FP1 session in Mexico for McLaren
Williams started their Komatsu-Williams Engineering Academy for young talents
Maya Weug joined 7th round of FRECA in Imola with KIC Motorsport
Newey joined Aston Martin, so expect them to have big psychological advantage (they had a press con to announce it, he spoke about wanting to work with either Lewis or Fernando, he spoke about British bias and how it was involved in Abu Dhabi 2021…, he will start working for them early in 2025, he will also become a shareholder in the team with more rights than other teams could offer him besides being a leader of technical division)
Lawrence will apparently pay him massive amount of money (rumour has it it is Eddie Jordan who is asking for a big pay check for himself and many teams said no to that), after Newey and de la Rosa and Honda, he is also looking to sign Max Verstappen (and there is a possibility to get him in the team, Lance could head to WEC instead) – next thing you know he will also sign Christian Horner and Checo Perez to have a full RBR
Nico Rosberg, Guenther Steiner (and somebody else I freaking forgot, maybe Ted Kravitz) spoke about neither Kimi nor George having their seat secure for 2026, because Toto Wolff is still eyeing any opportunity to sign Max Verstappen
The team also sold stakes in the team to HPS and Accel
All teams were in compliance of the cost cap rules for 2023, BUT Honda and Alpine were found of procedural breech (aka none of them spent more money on catering, but these two made a mistake sort of not submitting the paperwork on time or filled incorrectly…)
Ella Lloyd is the wildcard entry for F1 Academy’s race weekend in Singapore
Red Bull junior academy signed Christopher Feghali, Ernesto Rivera, Rocco Coronel and Jules Caranta
Not only is the situation messy in junior series, it is also kinda messy in FE (Nato stays with Nissan while Fenestraz is out, Wehrlein and da Costa stay with Porsche, Günther will drive for DS Penske…)
Rumouredly, Val received an offer from Audi for one year, he was asking for more – at least 1+1 deal, besides him Binotto has Bortoleto highest on his list (and Theo Pourchaire further down the list) with McLaren potentially letting him go from their junior program if Audi wants him
Zak Brown spoke about the papaya rules shit and said how they will probably back Lando now because he is in mathematical contention for the title and Oscar will help him however he can and whatnot
Fun fact: in rally Greece, Seb Ogier spoke shit about Thierry Neuville that the “championship leader is not that fast) and then he crashed and Thierry won
For the first time ever, 4 women finished inside top 10 in NASCAR
James Vowles would apparently like Ferrari to release Carlos early so he could join them for post season test in Abu Dhabi
Santander is officially out of Ferrari with Unicredit taking their place and instead, they will become the partner of F1
Hyundai is ending in WRC next year and they would rumouredly like to join WEC
Ferrari Challenge will be a supporting series for the Las Vegas F1 GP
According to Ted Kravitz, Liam Lawson could be replacing Daniel as soon as for this weekend (that goes along what James Vowles said about trying to sign Liam for the rest of the season but Red Bull not wanting to let him go since they might need him for at least 3 races this season)
Nico the professional shit-stirrer he is, claimed that he got an offer in his e-mail inbox to buy Alpine for 1 billion dollars
Another fun fact: Ferrari already collected more points than they did for the whole season last year
Red Bull is running their engines on lower modes due to reliability concerns (part of the reason why Max had the lowest speed of all in a speed trap during the Monza GP)
All front wings are under compliance with the technical rules as per FIA (clarification that apparently Red Bull and Ferrari asked for, especially taking McLaren and Mercedes into consideration)
There is a funky feud for racing number 12 going on behind the scenes with Doohan asking for it first publicly and Mercedes asking for it for Kimi even before “secretly”, so now both teams are waiting for the result
This was meant to go into one of the previous roundups but F1 is talking to the teams to see if after season rookie race would be possible for them, which could give opportunity especially to driver who won junior series but never got into the sport
McLaren signed a sponsorship deal with NTT Data for their F1 Academy team
Also rumours and gossip from my fave source: Red Bull hired Rob Wilson to help Checo Perez get his lost form back (he is basically an observer, watches you drive and then gives you a long list of stuff you need to improve to get faster)
Williams got Globant sponsorship deal thanks to signing Franco for the rest of the season
Due to sustainability concerns, F1 might combine Canada and Miami to be a double header
There are also rumours that Ferrari tried to sign GP as a race engineer for Lewis next year
Non-sport fun
Oscar posted from a cockpit of a plane with a funny caption and then deleted because he posted it on 11th September
Max, Lando and Nico flew together to Baku for some reason
Charles won the karting marathon with his friends for LC8 team, spoke at yacht conferences and predicted weather
Lewis was sat with Noah Lyles and Anna Wintour at US open which is honestly kinda iconic
Charles and Goerge met up with Domenicali at what might be Briatore’s yacht party???
I just found out Kimi Antonelli’s girlfriend is from Czechia thanks to my sister lol
Hamda Alqubaisi from F1 Academy apparently got engaged so congrats!!!! (I thought she is like 16 I am so sorry Hamda)
Apparently Fernando Alonso got a new AM Valkyrie car that immediately broke down while he was driving it in Monaco and he was unable to fix it (he also said that they don’t get discounts on the cars from the team)
oh and kinda sports related but it is completely out of question right now BUT there is talks about F1 coming to Brno with the new resurfaced track and possible new facilities as they return on the MotoGP calendar for 2025

So that was UFC 300. Fantastic card from start to finish. Some real iconic moments. We got a little bit of everything. Easily best card of the year and I don't see anything topping it with the way the UFC plans their cards out nowadays.
I hope Pereira ends up on that UFC 301 Brazil card next month. Even if it's against some random jobber. Throw him in there with like Jake Collier or Martin Buday or something.
Max Holloway is one of the greatest fighters this sport has ever had and when you tell the history of the sport, he's one of the guys you'll have to bring up. Even without the featherweight title, he is just showing up and putting on classics. He's legit getting better. What he did to Gaethje is one of the best performances we've seen in the sport and that finish is going to go down as possibly the coldest moment MMA has ever produced. Just a really special fighter. A fight with either Topuria or Makhachev is warranted. He's earned it.
I hope that fight pumps the breaks on Weili Zhang's flyweight prospects. I really hope how badly she got beat up on the feet doesn't get swept away to fatigue and the go back and retool her striking. I really want to see her against Tatiana Suarez.
I feel for Tsarukyan. With Poirier apprently next in line and Holloway doing what he did to Gaethje, he might be getting passed over despite being the LW that has given Makhachev his toughest fight outside of Martins.
Kayla Harrison is going to be women's bantamweight champion before 2024 is up if she's able to keep making weight. She's too uniquely skilled and physically imposing not to run through 135lbs.
I know Do Bronx lost, but great night for Brazil. Diego Lopes and Renato Moicano picked up big top ten wins. Not sure if they're contenders quite yet but they are both in line for big fights next. Plus Figs established himself as a person of interest at 135lbs.
sucks Jim lost but I like Bobby Green so I'm happy he looked as good as he did.
Way too much "talented striker can't stop the wrestling/grappling of his/her opponent" on this one. Yan, Turner, Rodriguez a little bit, and Kattar. It wasn't even just that the other person was better, they all looked just confused when the fight hit the mat. Odd.

Iranian Air Force Starts "War Games"
Diego Alves By Diego Alves 23/07/2023 - 13:00in Military
The Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force - IRIAF (Air Force of the Iranian Islamic Republic) began a national military exercise in the central province of Esfahan on Sunday (23). The maneuver was initiated following an order from the commander of IRIAF, Brigadier General Hamid Vahedi, with the aim of strengthening the country's defense readiness and sending the message of "friendship, peace and calm" to the region.
Previously, Brig. General Vahedi said his forces will employ 92 aircraft in military practice, including various fighters, interceptor aircraft, bombers and unmanned aerial vehicles.
The officer added that the units of the Iranian Air Force will carry out a wide range of simulation operations, such as aerial reconnaissance and imaging, destruction of aerial and ground targets, electronic warfare, defense tactics and testing of new modern systems.
Tumblr media
Iran operates an unknown number of Western aircraft, acquired before the Islamic revolution.
He noted that air force units will also perform various combat tactics and distance attack operations with drones to destroy targets accurately.
Iran has held several "war games" in recent years amid military threats against the country by foreign opponents. The military doctrine of the Islamic Republic maintains that the country's armed capacity serves only for defensive purposes.
Tumblr media
Recently, Iran announced the purchase of 24 Sukhoi Su-35 Flanker-E fighters produced for Egypt.
In recent years, the Iranian industry has made substantial progress in the manufacture of a wide range of equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the sphere of armament.
The Iranian authorities have repeatedly stressed that the country will not hesitate to increase its military capabilities, including its missile and drone power, which are entirely intended for defense, and that Iran's defense capabilities will never be subject to negotiation.

Top 5 Greatest Moments in Football History
Football, more so than any other sport, has a way of making the impossible seem possible. Whether it's a player scoring an impossible goal or winning a game by the skin of his teeth, football fans have seen some incredible things in recent years. Check out this sports site "메이저사이트". Even though many people think that not enough time has passed since these historic moments happened to know how they'll stand up over time, they're still worth talking about here:
1966 World Cup final
One of the most memorable moments in football history was Germany’s victory over England in the 1966 World Cup final. It was played in front of a crowd of some 127,000 fans at Wembley Stadium in London and was televised live to millions around the world.
Germany went ahead through Helmut Haller on 15 minutes, but they were pegged back by Alan Ball six minutes later. Geoff Hurst had the chance to put England back into the lead when he was put clean through on goal by Martin Peters but he shot straight at Sepp Maier who got down well to save it with his feet.
The Miracle of Bern
In the 1954 World Cup, West Germany came from behind to beat Hungary 3-2. The game is often referred to as "The Miracle of Bern" and was played in the Swiss city of Bern.
Diego Maradona's 1986 goal of the century
The goal that won Argentina the 1986 World Cup was by Diego Maradona.
The ball was played through to Maradona by Jorge Burruchaga and he dribbled past five English players, including goalkeeper Peter Shilton, who was injured after a collision with Maradona.
The goal is considered one of the greatest in football history and led to a wave of popularity for Maradona in Argentina.
Lionel Messi’s unstoppable free kick for Barcelona
This list would have been incomplete without including Messi’s unstoppable free kick against Getafe in 2010. The goal had it all – drama, emotion, and a stunning finish. In the last minute of play with Barcelona trailing Getafe 1-0, Messi stepped up to take a free kick from just outside the box; his ensuing strike left goalkeeper Diego Lopez motionless before sailing past him into the back of the net. This moment was so spectacular that it became known as The Goal of Football History by many fans and pundits alike.
1998 World Cup semi-final
Of all the moments in football history, this has to be one of the best. In the last World Cup prior to its internationalization, France and Brazil met in what was widely considered a contest between two of the greatest national teams of their era. The match ended with Brazil winning by three goals to nil, but only after an own goal from Marcel Desailly and one from Zinedine Zidane had given them a 2-0 lead. Then Rivaldo scored from a penalty kick for his second goal of the game; he would later go on to say that he "dreamed" about scoring during this match as well as others throughout his career at Barcelona—so maybe there is something special about this moment after all?
Rivaldo's goal also allowed France manager Aimé Jacquet—who led Les Bleus out onto the pitch wearing a tuxedo jacket—to tell reporters afterward that it was "a good evening."
From World Cups to Champions Leagues, some of football's greatest moments happened here.
The stadium is one of the most famous in the world. It has hosted many important football matches, including the World Cup finals and Champions League finals. The stadium is also a popular tourist destination and symbolizes both the city it is in and it's country as well as being an icon of its continent.
Conclusion
These are the moments that football fans will never forget. From Maradona's famous goal to Messi winning La Liga with Barcelona, these were some of the greatest moments in football history.

THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH
1942
Tumblr media
“The Skin of Our Teeth” by Thornton Wilder was written in early 1942 and premiered on Broadway in November of that year, after tryouts in Philadelphia, Washington DC, and New Haven. It opened at Broadway’s Plymouth Theatre on November 18, 1942. By 1942, Atlantic City was no longer one of the regular cities to host out-of-town tryouts. Baltimore and Washington were also on the try-out schedule, but were dropped when rehearsals were delayed due to cast commitments.
Tumblr media
It was produced by Michael Myerberg and directed by Elia Kazan with costumes by Mary Percy Schenck. The play is a three-part allegory about the life of mankind, centering on the Antrobus family.
The original production starred Tallulah Bankhead (as Sabina the Maid), Fredric March (George Antrobus), Florence Eldridge (Mrs. Antrobus), and Montgomery Clift (as son George). Bankhead won a Variety Award for Best Actress and the New York Drama Critics Award for Best Actress of the Year for her role as Sabina. When she left the production in March 1943, she was replaced by Miriam Hopkins.  The play won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
The phrase used as the title comes from the King James Bible, Job 19:20: "My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth."
There were Broadway revivals in 1955 and 1975 with another revival planned for 2022 at Lincoln Center.  There was a production at the Central Park Delacourte Theatre in 1998.
Tumblr media
Although the play was never filmed as a motion picture, a San Diego production aired on PBS TV in 1983.
Tumblr media
There were also television productions in 1951 and 1955 (above with Helen Hayes and Mary Martin), 1959 (UK), and 1961 (Germany).
Tumblr media
The play’s second act is set on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City. Acts One and Three are set in the fictional New Jersey town of Excelsior.  The author, although not born in New Jersey, had ties to the state. He attended Princeton University, and taught school in Lawrenceville NJ.  His now-iconic play “Our Town” had its first performances at McCarter Theatre in Princeton.
Tumblr media
In 1931, Wilder wrote a one-act titled “The Happy Journey to Trenton and Camden.”  Almost the entire play takes place during an automobile journey from Newark to Camden, New Jersey by a family on their way to visit a married daughter, who has recently lost a baby in childbirth.
Tumblr media
In Atlantic City, the Antrobuses are present for father George's swearing-in as president of the Ancient and Honorable Order of Mammals, Subdivision Humans. Sabina the maid is present, also, in the guise of a scheming beauty queen, who tries to steal George's affection from his wife and family. Children Gladys and George each attempt their individual rebellions, and are brought back into line by the family. The act ends with the family members reconciled and, paralleling the Biblical story of Noah's Ark, directing pairs of animals to safety on a large boat where they survive the storm and/or the end of the world.
Tumblr media
The real Atlantic City in 1942.
Tumblr media
The play capitalizes on Atlantic City’s reputation as a popular spot for conventions, beauty pageants, fortune tellers, and gambling (in the form of Bingo) - all things the city is still known for today. Many productions include Atlantic City’s famous rolling chairs in their design.
Tumblr media
Although the original production was set in the present (1942) some modern productions also set the show in the present day, meaning set designers are free to use more modern Atlantic City iconography.

MARILYN MONROE
June 1, 1926 - August 4, 1962
Tumblr media
Marilyn Monroe (born Norma Jeane Mortenson) was an actress, model, and singer. Famous for playing comedic "blonde bombshell" characters, she became one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s and early 1960s and was emblematic of the era's changing attitudes towards sexuality. She was a top-billed actress for only a decade, but her films grossed $200 million by the time of her death in 1962. More than half a century later, she continues to be a major popular culture icon.
"When I was five I think, that's when I started wanting to be an actress. I didn't like the world around me because it was kind of grim, but I loved to play house. When I heard that this was acting, I said that's what I want to be. Some of my foster families used to send me to the movies to get me out of the house and there I'd sit all day and way into the night. Up in front, there with the screen so big, a little kid all alone, and I loved it.” ~ Marilyn Monroe,1962

Lucille Ball never worked with Marilyn Monroe, but meet her in 1953 at Ciro’s Nightclub on Sunset Strip, along with Betty Grable, and Red Skelton. Monroe’s immense popularity permeated Ball’s work none-the-less.
At the start of “Changing the Boys’ Wardrobe” (ILL S3;E10) the gang is heading to the movies to see “That picture we’ve been trying to get to for weeks with Marilyn Monroe.” The movie is likely Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, which premiered in New York City in July 1953. On November 5, 1953, the same day the episode was filmed, Monroe’s new film How to Marry a Millionaire was released in the US.
Tumblr media
The November 1953 cover of TV and Movie Screen Magazine saw Lucy (in “The Camping Trip”) and Marilyn wearing the dress she wore on the May 1953 cover of Life Magazine promoting Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
Tumblr media
Also on November 5, 1953, the town of Monroe, New York (60 miles from New York City) was temporarily renamed Marilyn Monroe.
Tumblr media
The film later inspired much of the plot of “Second Honeymoon” (S5;E14), Lucy’s failed attempt to make their transatlantic crossing to Europe more than just a working vacation.
Tumblr media
Monroe’s dinner companion turns out to be a seven year-old boy, just like Lucy’s ping pong partner turns out to be young Kenneth Hamilton (Harvey Grant).
Tumblr media
Lucy gets stuck in a porthole just as Monroe did, also draping a blanket around her shoulders so passersby wouldn’t know what was really going on.
Tumblr media
The idea for the burlap potato sack dresses in “Lucy Wants A Paris Gown” (ILL S5;E20) comes from Monroe’s real life.
Tumblr media
In 1951 Marilyn Monroe took a series of high fashion photographs wearing a potato sack as a response to a journalist who said that she might look sexier in a burlap sack than her usual fashion choices.
Tumblr media
Lucy first wore burlap at the end of “Mr. and Mrs. TV Show” (ILL S4;E24) as her scary version of a Phipps make-over.
Tumblr media
In “Ricky’s Movie Offer” (ILL S4;E5) Lucy and Ethel argue about who looks more like Marilyn Monroe.
Tumblr media
While Lucy has the facial features, Ethel has the blonde hair.
Tumblr media
Fred (hilariously) settles the argument!
Tumblr media
In “Ricky’s Screen Test” (ILL S4;E7) a long list of Hollywood names are dropped in anticipation of hobnobbing with celebrities, including Marilyn Monroe.
Tumblr media
In “Lucy and Harpo Marx” (ILL S4;E28) Lucy wonders if Ethel might pass for Monroe to a near-sighted Carolyn Appleby. After Ethel tries to walk like Marilyn Monroe, Lucy decides that “nobody is that near-sighted!” Fred says that he looks more like Marilyn than either of them!
Tumblr media
In “Lucy and Superman” (ILL S6;E13), the Appleby’s come over for a social evening that Ethel calls “the bore war” because the couples only talk about their children. As the scene opens, Caroline is in mid-sentence talking about a Marilyn Monroe film.
Tumblr media
CAROLINE: “...and he picked up Marilyn Monroe, slung her over his shoulder and carried her off!”
Although the title is never mentioned, the film they are discussing is Bus Stop, starring Marilyn Monroe and Don Murray. It was released in August 1956, two and a half months before this episode was filmed.

When “Lucy Does the Tango” (ILL S6;E20), she stuffs eggs down her blouse and Ethel stashes a some in her back pockets. Lucy tells her, “Whatever you do don’t try to walk like Marilyn Monroe,” but the ‘yolk’ is on Ethel when Fred suddenly enters through the kitchen door!

In “Lucy the Gun Moll” (TLS S4;E25), Lucy plays Lucy Carmichael and Rusty Martin. The name Rusty Martin was probably derived from Lucy’s hair color and the surname of Mary Martin, who introduced the song “My Heart Belongs to Daddy” (music and lyrics by Cole Porter) in the 1938 Broadway musical Leave It to Me. Marilyn Monroe sang it in the 1960 film Let’s Make Love.  In that same film, Harry Cheshire, who played Sam Johnson in “Oil Wells” (ILL S3;E18), played Monroe’s father. Jerry Hausner (Jerry, Ricky’s Agent) and Joan Banks (Reporter Eleanor Harris in “Fan Magazine Interview”) played uncredited supporting roles.

Lucy and Marilyn shared a leading man in handsome Keith Andes. Andes was Lucy’s male lead in Wildcat on Broadway, and later played was featured on three episodes of “The Lucy Show.”
Tumblr media
In 1952, he played opposite Marilyn in Clash By Night, an RKO picture.
Tumblr media
In “Lucy Gets Ricky on the Radio” (1952), the June 3, 1952 of Look Magazine actually had Lucille Ball and Marilyn Monroe on the cover!  Monroe was promoting Clash by Night, and Desi had written a feature on his wife for the magazine. So Marilyn actually did appear on “I Love Lucy” - if only in a still photo.

Some Like It Hot (1959) is arguably one of Marilyn Monroe’s most popular films. What does it have in common with Lucille Ball? In 1958, both Lucy and Monroe were depicted at San Diego’s famous Del Coronado Hotel. It is the hotel that the Ricardo’s and Mertzes stay at in “Lucy Goes to Mexico” (LDCH S2;E1) as well as the backdrop for much of the film. Although Desilu filmed establishing footage of the hotel, the cast stayed in Hollywood, while Monroe went on location (as seen above). In “Lucy Goes to a Hollywood Premiere” (TLS S4;E20), Mr. Mooney says he wouldn’t buy a second hand nightie if it had been worn by Jack Lemmon in Some Like It Hot.

The Irving Berlin song “There’s No Business Like Show Business” was sung on “I Love Lucy” and “The Lucy Show.”  Although it was originally from the Broadway musical Annie Get Your Gun (1946), it also served as the title and was performed (by Merman) in the Marilyn Monroe film There’s No Business Like Show Business in 1955.

In 1952, Marilyn co-starred by Richard Widmark (”The Tour” ILL S4;E30) in the film noir drama Don’t Bother To Knock. The film also featured “Lucy” players Lurene Tuttle (Fine Arts League President), Verna Felton (Mrs. Porter), Gloria Blondell (Grace Foster), as well as Harry Bartell, Olan Soule, Robert Foulke, and Bess Flowers.
Tumblr media
That same year, Monroe starred in We’re Not Married! opposite Lucy’s friend and former co-star Ginger Rogers, as well as Eve Arden (”Hollywood at Last!”), Paul Douglas (”Lucy Wants a Career”) and Eddie Bracken (Too Many Girls).

One of Monroe’s most iconic moments came in March 1962 when she sang “Happy Birthday” as a birthday present to President John F. Kennedy in a public birthday celebration also attended by Lucy’s friends and co-stars Jack Benny, Jimmy Durante, Henry Fonda, Danny Kaye, Shirley MacLaine and Elliott Reid. A year later, Lucy Carmichael also gave Kennedy a present, a sugar cube replica of the White House on “The Lucy Show” with Elliott Reid doing Kennedy’s offstage voice as well as playing a small on-camera role!
"I never quite understood it, this sex symbol. I always thought symbols were those things you clash together! That's the trouble, a sex symbol becomes a thing. I just hate to be a thing. But if I'm going to be a symbol of something I'd rather have it sex than some other things they've got symbols of." ~ Marilyn Monroe, 1962
Monroe was married (and divorced) three times:
James Dougherty, Merchant Marine & Policeman (1942-46)
Joe DiMaggio, Baseball Player (1954-55)
Arthur Miller, Playwright (1956-61)

In “Lucy is Enceinte” (ILL S2;E10), Fred gives Lucy a signed baseball for his future 'godson’. When he asks Lucy to read out the signature, she at first says “Spalding,” the ball’s brand name, but then finds it is signed by Joe DiMaggio.
Tumblr media
In “Ragtime Band” (ILL S6;E21), Little Ricky asks his Uncle Fred:
LITTLE RICKY: “Who’s Joe 'Maggio?” FRED: “'Who’s Joe 'Maggio?’ You talk more like your father everyday.”
Tumblr media
In “Sales Resistance” (ILL S2;E17), Lucy compares herself to Willy Loman, the title character in Death of a Salesman, a Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Arthur Miller first produced on Broadway in 1949 and made into an Oscar-nominated film in 1951.

Speaking of husbands, Desi Arnaz has something in common with Marilyn Monroe, too. Both of their souses were accused of being Communists by the House Un-American Activities Committee during the 1950s. Both Lucille and Arthur Miller were cleared of charges and their careers continued, although that was not true for many celebrities of the time.

Monroe died on August 4, 1962. The toxicology report showed that the cause of death was acute barbiturate poisoning. Empty medicine bottles were found next to her bed. The possibility that Monroe had accidentally overdosed was ruled out because the dosages found in her body were several times over the lethal limit.

The character of Ginger, the movie star castaway on “Gilligan’s Island” (1964-67) was described during casting as a combination of Lucille Ball and Marilyn Monroe. Tina Louise had Lucy’s red (ginger) hair and Monroe’s shapely physique. The series also featured Natalie Schafer (Phoebe Emerson) as Mrs. Howell, and Alan Hale Jr. as the Skipper. Hale performed on “The Lucy Show” and “Here’s Lucy”. Series creator Sherwood Schwartz was a Lucy fan. His brother Elroy Schwartz actually wrote scripts for Lucille Ball.

In the 2013 web-series “Ryan & Ruby” both Lucille Ball and Marilyn Monroe are given special thanks for their inspiration. The last name of star and creator Ryan Burton's character is "Carmichael", the same as Ball's character on the "The Lucy Show". In Ryan’s kitchen there are fridge magnets with photos of both Lucy and Marilyn.

Lucy and Marilyn are street characters at Universal Studios theme parks, their iconic hair and costumes making them instantly recognizable.
The same day Marilyn Monroe was born in 1926, another Hollywood icon with connections to Lucille Ball was also born, Andy Griffith.  To read his birthday blog, click here!
