What charity was the icon change for
I did a charity stream about a month back for TEP!
We raised over 3k- it was the first charity stream I’d ever done (prospect always seemed daunting) and it went unbelievably well aside from the fact that we kept hitting the goals so fast I couldn’t play the game.

Disney Month:The Love Bug 1997
For the 17th installment in Disney month we shall look at the TV movie reboot/sequel to the classic Herbie franchise ,The Love Bug
Tumblr media
In this 1997 TV movie Herbie,a living Volkswagon Beetle finds himself with Hank Cooper(Bruce Campbell ) a mechanic and former race driver with his own insecrurities and a bit of jealously over all the attention the car gets, ignoring is oddball artist friend Roddy Martel(Kevin J O Connor) telling him the car is alive ,meanwhile a former owner of Herbie, the pompus race car driver Simon Moore III (John Hannah ) makes contact with Herbies creator  Dr. Gustav Stumpfel (Harold Gould ) to make his own living car ,the feral Horace
The Herbie series, which follows the adventures of this living car ,was iconic back in the day,one of Disneys few big franchises (Which I know sounds insane now ,considering the MCU...Which this has a connection to.....I'll get to that ),though now is seen as a curiosity ,a forgotten relic of a bygone time,or just dismissed as stupid.I will confess I am not a Herbie expert ,I have only seen three films (This one,the original Love Bug ,and Herbie Fully Loaded ) but I am a Herbie defender,I actually think the premise is cute despite having a disdain for cars . I think the original Love Bug is a classic and while my memories are hazy ,I enjoyed Fully Loaded as a kid .But What are my thoughts on this film.....Honestly I really enjoyed it
Now I have seen some lukewarm thoughts on this film dismissing it as only noteworthy cause the lead is Bruce Campbell and if you know me well you might be scoffing and saying "Oh they only like it cause they like Bruce Campbell"....I cant lie and say thats NOT a factor, because it is.I am a Bruce Campbell fanatic ,I adore Evil Dead, The Adventures of Brisco County Jr ,Bubba Ho Tep ,Man With The Screaming Brain ,My Name is Bruce ,his performances in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs ,Maniac Cop ,Black Friday ,Lois and Clark ,his cameos in Sam Raimis Spiderman franchise ,I could keep going .Point is he is one of my favorite actors, having old school movie star charisma /good looks, a character actors sensibilities and expert comedic slapstick timing on par with the old masters like Buster Keaton or Harold Lloyd .I am a fan and as a fan it is fun to see him get to be in a goofy Disney comedy as opposed to usual horror fare he is well known ,but not just in a "Tee hee aint it wacky to see Ash talk to Herbie " way,I think he is a legit good choice for the lead, cause he is charmy, got his trademark snark ,but can do the vulnerability and make you believe that he cares for this car ,cause of course he can , this guy fought his HAND in a movie ,he can definately make me belive he has a friendship with a living car .So yeah it is a factor ,but its because he is such a good actor I think he is an asset......But I dont think he is the only asset
So I kind of find it baffeling people looked at this and dismissed it because it has so many THINGS that make it stand out....Including the fact the director is Peyton Reed, who has gone on to direct THE ANT MAN trilogy ,and he kind of brings the same sensibility he brought to Ant Man to this ,which I can only describe as lovingly silly. Like the movie knows its audience will find it silly ,and while it acknowledges it ,it loves it and embraces it .It pokes fun at some cliches but it also embraces some, and because some things are played sincere, they also are really funny
The cast is great ,not just Campbell ,as the film is full of character actors .We get some fun small parts from Burton Gilliam and Jeff Garlin ,and highly enjoyable supporting performances by Clerance Williams III ,Harolg Gould ,Dana Gould , and Micky Dolenz .Alexandra Wentworth is a good love tinterest, playing with some tropes ,and John Hannah is a very entertaining weasily pompous villain .My favorite character is Roddy played by Kevin J O Connor who is this artist who is able to communicate with Herbie ,being very lovable as wel as very funny .Also Dean Jones, star of the original film reprises his role of Jim Douglas ,and even though he isnt in the film alot its fun to see him here
I adore Horace the evil car ,I like that he is an extention of Simons evil and is a feral monster ,but has a connection with Simon .I think the production team did a really good job giving menace to this car
My only complaint is it feels like Herbie himself gets sidelined ,but the film still works.
Overall, this is such a fun underrated gem and not a bad intro to Herbie, though personally I think ones should watch the original film first

... Only if tep consents. Pet probably does, considering they're a figment of my imagination. I'm going to assume a wild west setting? That'd be really classic. Pet could wear a top hat and an evil cape. Tep could ride a horse.
okay yayyyyy❤️ (unless tep allows the train to get me) evil cape is really iconic. i think the horse should be the one that got forced to become gay

HEADS UP PLUTO TV HAS SOME GREAT HORROR MOVIES TO WATCH RIGHT NOW!
Please note that most of these are not gorey/torture porn scary because they are either one kinda outdated and now just silly, or b, not that kind of horror!
SQUIRM: evil worms plague a small town during a power outage.
House on Haunted Hill, Tales of Terror, Theatre of Blood, The Masque of Red Death, The Conqueror Worm, The Pit and the Pendulum, the Fall of the House of Usher: Vincent Price. Need I say more? Theatre of Blood is a little more silly, but still has a pretty good twist.
The Woods: scary witchy boarding school for girls
Blood & Chocolate: OH MY GOD okay Twilight of the early aught's but it's a girl who's a werewolf and her mafia like family, and also cutie pie Hugh Dancy!!!
Once Bitten: Silly vampire movie with young Jim Carrey, a great early role for him.
Audrey Rose: HOLY SHIT YOU GUYS Anthony Hopkins claims that a young girl who's been experiencing night terrors is actually being possessed by the spirit of his dead daughter SUCH A GREAT movie. More psychological horror than anything.
Blacula and Scream, Blacula, Scream: I haven't seen these yet, but obviously I will??? Hello???
Night of the Demons: horrible 80's teen scary movie, and actually, this ones a little gorey: dumb teens spend the night in a funeral parlor, and there's an incredible possessed dance by Amelia Kinkade.
The Love Witch: If you haven't heard of the Love Witch, then, listen, it's about a seventies-esque witch who yearns for love but it keeps going wrong. Aesthetic, funny, femme, witchy.
Ginger Snaps: HELLO, iconic actress pair Emily Perkins and Katherine Isabelle. Girlhood, Monster-ation, werewolves. Iconic.
Only Lovers Left Alive: TILDA SWINTON AND TOM HIDDLESTON. ICONIC VAMPIRE COUPLE OH MY GOD!! Moody vampires in love. Romantic and dark.
Bubba Ho-Tep: Elvis awaits his end of days in a senior living facility with his best friend JFK, when they discover a mummy terrorizing the senior residents. A classic.
Hansel & Gretal, Witch Hunters: Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton in your gritty grimms fairytales dreams. Silly, kinda badass and thoroughly enjoyable.
Vampire in Brooklyn: Eddie Murphy is a vampire looking for his mistress... he has searched through oceans of time for her....
Elvira Mistress of the Dark and Elvira's Haunted Hills: IT'S ELVIRA.
Bram Stoker's Dracula: YA'LL HE CROSSED OCEANS OF TIME TO FIND HER!!! Keanu Reeve's horrible English accent, and Anthony Hopkins as a weird uncle energy vampire hunter. Incredible.
The Addams Family & The Addams Family Values: The dream couple, Gomez and Morticia. Little Christina Ricci. omg and DEBBIE!!! Classic family fun.
There are so many more movies that I want to see like Black Xmas, Planet of the Vampires, The Wicker Man, The Covenant, and Gretal & Hansel. These are some that I have seen. Horror enthusiasts, go check out pluto cause there's some good stuff on there!

after seeing ash’s response to this post i want to talk for a second about the subject of elvis and impersonation vs portrayal.
elvis impersonators have been around almost as long as elvis himself, with the first impersonator being a man by the name of carl “cheesie” nelson from texarkana who, in 1954 who performed his own renditions of “that’s alright, mama” and “blue moon of kentucky,” and even got to perform onstage alongside elvis that same year. since then, elvis impersonators have been a staple of american pop culture—with a notable presence in las vegas specifically—but it’s not exclusive to america. simply put, ash is right; elvis is one of, if not THE most impersonated pop culture icon in american—and rock n’ roll—history.
there are a few notable portrayals of elvis onscreen: elvis (1979) directed by john carpenter (often touted as the best portrayal of elvis), elvis and nixon (2016), more of a comedy film above all else but still one of the more notable portrayals of elvis in recent years, bubba ho-tep (2002) starring bruce campbell as elvis, the elvis miniseries from 2005 starring jonathan rhys meyers (who bears an uncanny resemblance to elvis) and of course the most recent film starring austin butler, just to name a few. this is not a comprehensive list by any means, but are (to me) the most notable attempts at bringing elvis to the small and silver screen respectively. i can’t speak to every portrayal of elvis ever that exists in media (and i haven’t seen elvis and nixon in a very long time) but i can speak to austin butler, kurt russell and jonathan rhys meyer’s portrayals in particular when it comes to just the performance aspect of elvis, which is where immitation vs portrayal really comes into play for me.
JONATHAN RHYS MEYERS
by all accounts and purposes, jonathan rhys meyers was practically tailor made to play elvis presley
Tumblr media
i mean honestly.
unfortunately i made the mistake of watching the miniseries after i had already seen austin butler’s performance and it was. not good lmao. i think for the time it was quite good, but it very much comes across as someone trying to imitate elvis versus actually inhabiting him as a person and making him come alive (also as an aside i know we tend to clown on tom hanks for his portrayal of the colonel because of how he sounds but at least he’s not boring lmao. if randy quaid’s version is more accurate then this is really gonna bite me in the ass but my god no one can ever accuse tom hanks of being boring in elvis 2022), particularly when he’s dancing. there was such a fluidity to the way elvis moved and it comes off very disjointed by comparison.

Tep Tons: Video Games (2024)
10: Minecraft Legitimately, a great game. Every now and then I'll return to it and it's just a good time, the grind can get pretty monotonous though. Best horror experience, would get annihilated by the Warden again.
9: Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus Everything I'd want from an RPG, and exactly what I'm looking for in a tactics game. Unfortunately pacing is really sluggish, in part because the controls and activations are kinda clunky. I'm excited for the sequel! Would replace my flesh with machine again.
8. 140 A short and sweet indie game. An abstract musical platformer with boss fights and a bumpin' soundtrack. Unfortunately Carlsen Games doesn't seem to have made any more games after this and Thoth. Would get slapped by giant blocks of static again.
7. Saints Row: The Third Few games have given me as much joyous mirth as this. It's one of those franchises where if you took elements from every game and mashed them into one, you'd have a perfect game. Would use the Penetrator again.
6. Redout 2 An improvement over the original in almost every way. The butt-clenching speed, the satisfying weight of the ships, the extensive customization, this is probably the game I'm most skilled at. The campaign is overlong and the music isn't quite as iconic as the first though. Would blow up from overheating again.
5. Portal 1 and 2 It's a twofer! Both are a delight. They're funny, spooky, clever, haunting, beautiful games. Unfortunately I haven't been able to fully experience the co-op, where apparently some real juicy puzzles are at. Would break the Aerial Faith Plates again.
4. Warframe A great game getting better and better with every update. I love the world, the story, the gameplay, the weapons, even Duviri! Probably #2 in the amount of time I've put into it. Unfortunately this is the game that killed any interest in game grinding I might've had. Would breathe Vay Hek's air again.
3. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild The first LoZ game I'd actually played, and it was so delightful! It's a cozy world I found a lot of peace and relaxation in, even the combat was pleasing. Unfortunately while TotK expanded on it mechanically, it may as well have retconned everything else for the amount of impact BotW had on it. Would hunt Lynels again.
2. Starcraft 2 My favorite game of all time. I've been in love with this world since I was a wee lad, and my teens were dominated by SC2. Definitely the game I've sunk the most time into, especially co-op and campaigns. The gameplay is buttery smooth, and I'm terrible at it lol. Unfortunately you can see the campaign was too ambitious for the time/funding they were allowed, so the quality of animation, writing, and production take some dips, as well as some of the content added toward the end of development. Still, one of the only games to make me cry even today. Would give my life for Aiur again.
1. Undertale Again, legitimately a great game, the greatest game of all time. No meme, I adore this game and my favorite character unironically is Sans. I love a character with an otherworldly understanding of what's going on. It's been dissected to death so I won't harp on it, just know that everything about it is wonderful. Hot take though, Megalovania is totally overrated. Would eat the spaghetti again.

Well, hello again, podner
Big Texs tepped up—boots and all —onto his usual spot on his platform at Big Tex Circle during his installation Friday at the State Fair of Texas at Dallas' Fair Park.
A crowd of about 100 people—from local media to children dressed just like the 55-foot-tall fair icon in blue shirts, jeans and white hats—gathered in the heat to make him feel welcome during the process, which required work crews and one very, very tall crane.
This year marks Big Tex's 72nd appearance at the fair, which opens Friday and will run through Oct. 20.

DALLAS
Attorney general to appeal State Fair firearms ruling
Judge had rejected Paxton’s attempt to temporarily halt policy
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton plans to appeal to a higher court after a Dallas County district judge on Thursday denied his office’s request to temporarily halt a new State Fair of Texas policy prohibiting firearms on its fairgrounds.
Judge Emily Tobolowsky, in a court hearing Thursday, rejected Paxton’s request for a temporary injunction, saying there was insufficient evidence showing any laws were broken by the new restriction.
State attorneys did not say during the hearing whether they planned to appeal and declined to comment to reporters outside the courtroom.
They filed a notice to appeal later in the afternoon to the 15th Court of Appeals.
Tumblr media
The filing late Thursday signals a forthcoming change in venue for the legal dispute, which began after fair organizers announced Aug. 8 they would increase security and limit who would be allowed to carry guns into Fair Park.
The policy change comes after a man shot three people at the fair last year.
In previous years, the fair allowed attendees with a valid handgun license to bring a gun as long as it was concealed, but state law doesn’t require Texans to have a permit to carry a firearm in a public place.
The state requested an accelerated appeal.
The filing comes just over a week before the first day of the State Fair of Texas, which runs from Sept. 27 through Oct. 20.
The case will be among the first ones heard in the 15th Court of Appeals.
The Texas Legislature created the Austin-based appeals court last year.
It is the venue for cases from the state’s business courts, appeals brought by or against the state and disputes over the constitutionality of state laws.
This summer, Gov. Greg Abbott appointed three justices to the court. Its inaugural term began Sept. 1.
Dallas officials have maintained city officials weren’t involved in the State Fair of Texas’ decision to enact the new policy.
The nonprofit group leases Fair Park from the city for the event. Seeking to block the restriction, Paxton sued the fair, Dallas and interim City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert on Aug. 29.
He contends the restriction is illegal and infringes on gun owners’ rights.

The Mummy 25th anniversary re-release
This is the weekend of anniversary re-releases. Not only is Alien (1979) in theatres; so is The Mummy. This is the film that turned Universal Pictures’ horror icon into an action movie franchise more akin to Raiders of the Lost Ark than the 1932 film starring Boris Karloff as Im-Ho-Tep. It was a huge success, leading to a couple sequels and Van Helsing. Even the later, aborted Universal Dark…
