New drawing style

Every year I tell myself I am going to do at least one of the dozen drawing challenges that are all over the internet. Of course, I always fail miserably.

Different Art Style Challenge, 100 Heads Challenge, Inktober, Left Hand Challenge.... I have tried them all, but never got to finish them. I always thought that the purpose of these challenges was to inspire you or help you develop your skills. Yes, the inspiration is there the first few days, but then I get bored and start a new challenge, a more interesting one. Then I get bored again.

The frustration comes right after boredom, or even a little bit earlier and now all of my sketchbooks (which are also unfinished) are a disaster, full of unfinished challenges. Whenever I open one of them the shame from the previous challenges looks me straight in the eyes.

I follow a lot of young artists on Instagram and Tumblr and they inspire me a lot, even though I rarely draw now. Half of them didn’t even went to art school and they are still great artists. That is why a few days ago I decided that I am not going to worry about the Inktober anymore. 

Turns out there is no shame in my sketchbooks, there is just an unfinished project that is just as good as the finished one. The whole point of drawing is that there are no rules or limits. No one can tell you that you are doing something wrong, because everybody has their own unique style. Mine is unfinished yet, just like the challenges and the sketchbooks.
