At that grad school happy hour (ETA: 13 years ago), where I toasted everyone "l'chaim" and that Trevor jackass smirked at me and toasted "Free Palestine," he didn't see a Jewish woman bringing warmth from her own culture into a social event. He saw a Jew saying something in Hebrew, and therefore declaring her allegiance to the state of Israel. He saw an agent of the Israeli state-building project, and took it as his sacred duty to let me know that he saw through me.

When I posted something here about my research on Jewish resistance during the Holocaust and someone replied AND NOW YOU'RE DOING IT IN GAZA. They didn't see an American Jewish woman posting about her research. They saw an agent of the Israeli state-building project, deftly molding Holocaust memory into an instrument of political repression to be wielded against Levantine Arabs.

When someone posted on the substitute teachers subreddit about a student doodling a swastika on their desk, and Jewish users in the comment started talking about their family's experiences in the Holocaust, someone commented GEE I CAN'T WAIT TIL GAZANS ARE POSTING ABOUT SURVIVING THE CAMPS. I asked them a. why on earth they felt that Gaza was relevant to Jews discussing their generational trauma; and b. what they were hoping to accomplish with said comment. In return I was verbally abused by multiple commenters who clearly felt that they held the obvious moral high ground, subjected to 102-level anti-Jewish speech, downvoted, and banned. Because they didn't see Jews engaging in collective mourning and healing. They saw agents of the Zionist state-building project making up reasons to ignore and speak over Palestinian pain and suffering. In none of those circumstances was I, were we, simply random Jews existing in the world. We were first and foremost, inherently, Zionists. Everything we do or say in English or Hebrew or any language about our family history, or the Holocaust marks us in the minds of these people as simply and completely agents of the Israeli State. Evil, hiveminded Jews, secret Elders of Zion, who will stop at nothing to forge their past into a bomb with which to terrorize Palestinian civilians.

We could never simply be individuals, each with our own unique, complex, multi-faceted understanding of those geopolitics and political appropriations of memory. No. We are Jews. Our existence is inherently political. And in the eyes of most of the world, we are--and always have been--guilty.

Sooo about Vox and Alastor...

The Radio Demon controls radio waves. Guess what?

Over-the-air television: Television broadcasting through radio waves, from a transmitter (TV station) to a receiver (TV antennae)

Satellite television: A TV signal transmitted by radio waves from a satellite.

Cable television: Radio frequency signals transmitted via cables

Until the early 2000s, TV signals were entirely transmitted through analogue signals: for decades, the original television technology only worked thanks to RADIO technology.

Those antennae on Vox's head? They're 'rabbit ears'!! Dipole receivers, meant to intercept radio waves broadcasted by TV stations, convert them to radio frequency electric currents, and send those to the TV via a radio currents transmission line, to be converted and processed to produce pictures and sounds.

It makes perfect sense for Vox and Alastor to have been "pals". Alastor calls him an " old pal" mockingly, but there's no way Vox would have been able to implement any kind of TV technology in Hell without the help of radio technology - technology that Alastor had control over. For decades, TV was literally radio with pictures. Alastor used to tolerate him (despite Vox encroaching on his territory) at worst, but might have supported him at best!

In my opinion, the beef between them comes from Vox's transition from Analogue to Digital, aka the digital switchover.

When Vox asked Alastor to join his team, it's possible he suggested Alastor switches to digital radio broadcasting (better sound quality, less transmission power required, a compressed digitized signal that allows for more radio programs in the same radio spectrum...). Of course, Alastor didn't care for that.

Was Vox's transition (partly) motivated by a desire to be more independent from Alastor? In any case, he's certainly not that much more independent now: streaming television and the streaming platforms & other services available on digital TVs depend on internet connectivity. And Wi-Fi uses radio waves.

In other words: Alastor's radio waves still live in Vox's TV head rent free, in the most literal way possible :3

Hi everyone! As you may know, I run an external blog for the show that, among other things, is mainly being used to layout and report new Season 17 information (there's not a lot right now, let's be real).

My main drive for creating this blog was two fold: (1) I wanted a place that would be a "one-stop shop" for people to be able to find a lot of the things I was constantly getting asks about (scripts, DVD extras, webisodes, stills, etc.) and (2) I wanted to be able to recreate the original Paddy's Pub Blog, which was a production blog existing during Seasons 4 through 9 to post updates, bts, new episode recaps, etc. for when the time comes (nigh!)

Obviously I modelled the look of my blog completely off of that OG Blog...

And now, in furtherance of honouring the OG Blog (or, leeching from it), I've gone ahead and bought the original domain:

If you have any page from the site bookmarked already (awe, thanks!) the links will automatically redirect to the "clean" URL, so this isn't, like, a necessary FYI, so to say, but I'm telling you all anyway. From now on, you can just type paddyspubblog.com and boom. you're there.

Also, because it's been a while since I've mentioned this, if anyone wants to contribute to the blog (in any way! posts, feedback, you want a link added, etc.) please let me know! I't's still under construction (mostly the Episode Guides tab) I'd love to be able to flesh out the Episode Guides tab, especially, and that really just kinda needs more than myself to bounce a conversation around and compile some lists.

at this point in my life i feel very "marsha thankk you for the dialectics but i need you to leave" about diagnostic labels, not because i think those labels are fake or stupid but because i personally can't do much with them. i would love nothing more than to have an appointment with a psychiatrist where they sit down with me for 3 hours and take a full life history and then at the end they tell me "you are autistic" or "you have OCD" and prescribe me The Vitamin that will make all of my problems vanish, but since that won't happen all i can really do is read books and go, "yeah that sounds like me" and then proceed to do nothing with that information

i really do enjoy the contradictions in crystal's character–she's amnesic but still has a strong sense of personality and agency, she finds power in her ancestry but was also clearly shaped into being such a callous and self-serving person by her parents. very tasty tension in her character, much to think about!

This is a rant about switch 2 and nintendo’s shitty fucking practices.

It’s gonna be a ramble and it’s probably something that’s not even gonna be read by other people, but I have a bit of a rant regarding the switch 2 because I am UPSET and this info needs to be spread the fuck around, because y’all need to not buy this shit at this price.

I want to start this off by saying that I have been around Nintendo my entire life. All 25 fucking years.

My first console of my own was a GameCube, and I owned EVERY. SINGLE. CONSOLE. that they made for about 18 years. I COLLECTED them. I owned a FUCKING VIRTUAL BOY. THE WORLD’S MOST STUPID FUCKING CONSOLE BECAUSE I LOVED NINTENDO.

Nintendo has recently doubled down on their price points and everything else they’ve been doing wrong, to the point of essentially stating “if you’re broke just go buy the switch 1”. They have blocked off a button on the switch 2 and put it behind a paywall (yes, a physical button on the console). They are charging money for a “game” that is literally just a showcase of what the switch 2 does—essentially being just what PS5’s original AstroBot was—of which one of the mini games in it is literally just “guess the frame rate”. I wish that was a joke.

I’m tired. It’s really wild to me that right now no one can afford food or rent or any of the other basic things that we need to survive and we have companies like Nintendo that are being predatory as all living hell and who are outpricing their consumers—most of which are families—out of being able to afford their console.

And look, I know that there’s gonna be people out there that are like “gaming is not a necessity, it’s a luxury” and you’re right it absolutely is. However, the world is on fucking fire, governments all around the world are imploding, Nazis are fucking everywhere, none of us can afford food or a roof over our heads (let alone a roof that’s not falling apart or rotting in some way), and at this point, I think what most of us have left are the little things that make us happy. Whether that’s gaming or our pets or family or reading or whatever your hobbies might be. So it’s incredibly frustrating to watch a company that’s supposed to be accessible and is supposed to be able to get new generations into gaming completely throw that out the window. Poor people deserve nice things too, and it is incredibly unfair to watch a company try to make gaming a hobby of the one percent.

fuck capitalism. fuck nintendo. fuck 2025. and fuck all of this.

edit: might need to add some additional dialogue to this to make it more clear, but a clarification in the interim; he knows about his own footprints. he's just surprised to see something similar already there when he knows he's only just landed. he lifts his own shoe to confirm that they're not identical (and also to reveal this to the viewer). seems his stoicism beat off the clarity in this one, sorry 😭
