I hate that all this shit is going down, again, in the warhammer community and disappointed I couldn't expect any better.
Running the best artists out of a community will kill it as will throwing a shitfit over anything that dares stick a toe in the water of inclusion.
For fuck sake get a grip lads.

Hiii:)
So I have something that I really wanna talk about and it’s more of a question and if you‘re not comfortable talking about this please feel free to ignore it. But I saw a lot of discourse again lately on the topic of bisexual butches. And I personally have always thought these labels like femme and butch are only lesbians labels becauseit’s also mostly shown like that on the internet but then I saw a documentary „gender outlaw“ with Leslie Feinberg in it talking for a really short moment about bi butches and I was/still am kind confused because I also saw a lot of people with the butch flag as their profile pic but with „bi“ in their bio. I really don’t know what to think about it because it‘s not my place to say how anyone identifies but I thought butch/femme was also about distancing yourself from men completely. But when I saw Leslie Feinberg (my favourite lesbian icon) talking about it it really got me thinking. But on the other hand maybe they just said bi butches because their wasn‘t that much other labels for masc presenting bi women these days and nowadays a lot of bi women call themselves masc which I personally feel more comfortable with instead of them calling themselves „bi butches“.. I don‘t know really. I’m not trying to be disrespectful or anything. English is not my first language so I hope I didn’t write anything harmful but this topic really bothers me and I really didn’t know who to ask.
Can you please tell me your thoughts on this ?
bi and other polysexual butches have been a part of our community for a long time, and are welcome at the table.
butch and femme are their own queer sub-cultures and identities. while most commonly associated with lesbians, being lesbian isn’t a prerequisite. another thing worth mentioning is that the only true way to “decide” if someone is butch is if they say they’re butch. butchness as an identity has many facets and more specific labels within itself anyway.
some other things i want to add:
- butch and femme don’t exist based on aversion or attraction to men
- if a bi butch falls for a man, it’s still a queer relationship. a bi person dating a straight person is still a queer relationship
- once you start trying to prevent certain people from choosing a label that they feel at home in you’re not only wasting your time but you’re also creating an environment where hate can form
i hope i answered your question well enough, but if you want to talk more about this you’re more than welcome to send me a dm

i think there is some connection between this post and this post
the increasing tendency to treat flaws as justification to declare something wholly “problematic” is a big piece of the anti-intellectualism on the left
the entire point of criticism in academia is to refine & improve understanding in your field. when you level criticism, you are seeking to create dialogue, not shut it down—you engage in criticism to understand not just that a thing has problems, but to seek to understand those problems so you can contribute to a solution
it’s for that reason that the once valid image of a bunch of rich white dudes sitting around smoking cigars in a white tower isn’t accurate anymore. by no means does that mean all problems of systemic inequality are fully “solved”, but we live in a world where academia can and does adjust to criticism, and is now full of diverse perspectives from all intersections of minority voices
but when your approach to criticism is just finding any flaws to declare something wholly “problematic” and the only solution you have is “throw it all out!” “burn it all down!” the fact that institutions of higher learning are flawed and can be criticized leads you to embracing anti-intellectualism. rather than seeing the limitations of privileged perspectives as just that—limitations, which need to be filled out by combining them with perspectives that historically were overlooked—any perspective that may have been privileged in the past becomes trash that needs to be thrown out entirely

love seeing discourse where both sides have a point but appear to be arguing against a version of their opponents' argument that absolutely nobody said and i have to stop myself from butting in to clarify things
